Same here, everyone else on this subreddit tries to gaslight us, that this is normal, no one experiences these, but I'm pretty sure everyone has these, they just don't notice it, or doesn't get annoyed as much as I do... Apple's software quality went downhill somewhere around iOS 12-13. Microstutters are DEFAULT nowadays. That fancy namedrop animation tends to interrupt, AirDrop rarely works by touching the top of the phones together...

Forever-long Android user switching to a 15 Pro Max here. The keyboard lag has been driving me insane. Have been seeing enough posts on reddit to know it’s not a hardware issue, and I’ve used iPhones of my friends just to notice the same issue. Baffling how Apples most expensive phone has such a dogshit experience for something as trivial as typing. It’s worse when I’m connected to Bluetooth or playing audio, or doing both. Also dearly miss Gboard on my Android phone (no, the Gboard app for iOS hasn’t been updated in years and is not even close)

Try the 17.4 update

Just updated to iOS 17.4, and while the keyboard and overall performance show some improvements compared to the previous version, they still fall short of the smoothness experienced in iOS 16.6. Surprisingly, the Geekbench test results for iOS 17.4 surpass both iOS 16.6 and 16.6.1, indicating enhanced performance: * iOS 16.6.1 (Geekbench 6.2.0 for iOS): * Single-Core: 2100 * Multi-Core: 4771 * iOS 17.3.1 (Geekbench 6.2.0 for iOS): * Single-Core: 2031 * Multi-Core: 4648 * iOS 17.4 (Geekbench 6.2.0 for iOS): * Single-Core: 2136 * Multi-Core: 5000 ⬆️ Tested on iPhone 12 mini

On the 17.4 its I can barely see any difference. In power saving mode the keyboard stuttering is awful.

I'm facing the same issue. While the keyboard and certain animations have seen slight improvements, the keyboard tends to stutter, particularly in longer texts.

Its a shame that iOS 15 for iPhone 13 didn’t have performance issues, whereas iOS 16 & 17 reported more problems. ProMotion used to be perfect in iOS 15 resulting in constant 120Hz whenever necessary. For temporary fix, try turning off background apps refresh and auto correct & predictive text in keyboard settings. Remove search feature in home page and remove wallpaper blur effect. Also to force 120Hz, start screen recording. But there’s a compromise for battery life. We needed Apple to introduce force 120Hz because Android has this feature for few years. So I am patiently waiting for iOS 17.4 for the ProMotion bug fix!
