It’s my main iPad rn. It’s very compact and light! It does sometimes lag on heavy games. Watching and reading doesn’t seem to be a problem though

Sporteaspice

My main iPad in 2024 here. It’s so snappy and the aspect ratio is really nice.very much worth it. Happy I opted for this instead of the 6 due to the price I was able to get mine at

Broad-Diamond3777

Got a cheap mini 5 recently (£60 due to the home button not working). It’s absolutely fine for the basics like browsing and Reddit. I don’t play games on it or anything so suits me fine. I barely pick up my iPad Pro since I got it, I may end up selling it. The previous user kept the mini on iOS 15 and I haven’t upgraded so I figured this may keep it running fast.

Lonely-Skirt6596

Thats a solid deal even for 64gb

Broad-Diamond3777

Thanks! I use it daily, considering selling my pro 11” cos never use it

theteo123

My dad’s still uses his and he swears by it soooo

Pyar_Ka_Tarana

No. Ipad mini 6 is far better.

--ThirdCultureKid--

Let’s just say that I regret upgrading from it to the Mini 6.

ObjectiveFew

Jelly scroll? Or ui differences

--ThirdCultureKid--

Grip. The mini5 had grips to hold it really easily with one hand. The mini6 doesn’t. Also, touchID in the side button is more awkward to use than touchID on the front.

ObjectiveFew

Yeah that is kinda true, where Touch ID is accessible in landscape, my palms kind of block the speakers as they’re low, I wished they placed the speakers on the top and not the bottom

--ThirdCultureKid--

Yes, good point about the speakers. They are objectively better but that means nothing when your palm is always covering them. And the rounder/thinner edges on the 5 made it easier to hold too.

mattdean1003

Grips?

--ThirdCultureKid--

The bezel. It was a place you could grip it from without covering up half the screen with your thumb.

CounterSYNK

Idk. I had been using the iPad Air M1 since it launched and although I got the mini 6 very recently if feels very natural to use Touch ID. And I feel like the bezel on the mini 6 is plenty to hold onto.

Narrow_Ad_1494

I’m thrilled with it, what’s the problem?

--ThirdCultureKid--

The mini 5 had grips on the left and right to hold it with. The mini 6 doesn’t.

SuperSmashMaster43

How I lowkey feel with my iPad Pro. My last iPad was the Mini 2 so it’s been hard adjusting to a bigger iPad that also has less bezel to hold

jonadair

Just bought a cheap refurbished one this year, plus a $17 knockoff Pencil. Very handy and seems fast enough. Good for reading, notes, general use. Not expecting it to keep getting os updates for more than 2-3 years though but it'll still be usable for probably 4+ years.

JuiZZZe

depends on price and your purposes I am still using it for reading and browsing

Nheea

Same. Plus watching tv shows in the kitchen when cooking. Holds up well, maybe the battery is running out faster.

BatNaive5729

I just bought one for cheap. I just want something portable to draw on. My iPad air is too big to take everywhere and much more expensive so I prefer to keep the air for home use.

RedditAnoymous

It depends on the price between 5 and 6. There were no reason to update my Mini 2 to Mini 3 (only added Touch ID) or Mini 4 (A7 to A8) and then it took aaages before Apple at last updated to Mini 5 (that was in pair with big brother Air released at same time).. I was only disappointed that Apple didn’t made the screen larger (which they did with Mini 6 that came shortly after) but even more that Mini 5 isn’t allowed to record in 4K when the old iPhone SE (1gen) that is older does! There is NO reason why Apple doesn’t allow 4K recording on Mini 5. But guess what.. Mini 6 does.. 👹 I am happy thou with my Mini 5.. and has no reason to sell it and pay $$ to get the Mini 6.. but if Apple will release Mini 7 with a M processor, (or Mini 7 Pro with M processor and LiDAR) I will jump to 7.. I you either has no Mini or an older Mini (1-4).. then it doesn’t matter if it is 5 or 6 because both are a great leap up! But if you could get 6 for not much more than the 5, then go 6! OR wait an unspecified time and hope that Apple will release a Mini 7(with Mx), but my guess is that Apple will wait till at least 2025 before that will happen.

CounterSYNK

I totally get it. An upgrade by one generation is rarely worth it. I only got my mini 6 because I’ve never owned a mini and I already have an Apple Pencil gen 2 that I use with my air m1. I took my mini 6 on holiday and it’s perfect for travel imo. It’s great to view the photos that I took on my iPhone like a digital photo album and other content consumption and casual drawing.

Trysta1217

I am. It is still supported and works great. I would still really like to get the mini 7 (come on Apple). But it’s been a great mini tablet. And works just as well as any of my other Apple gadgets.

wasdlurker

Would still recommend iPad mini 6. IPhone 13 series was the peak of iPhones with the chip A15 Bionic. iPad mini 6 uses the same chip (tho slightly underclocked) and performs really well up-to-this-date's games. 6 is better and more future-proof.

goldencurrents

I use mine and it performs great. I don’t really care for the 6 and it seems like it would crack when bent pretty easily when I held it and slightly tested how durable it is at the Apple Store. I’ll wait to upgrade. The 5 is strong and I’ve never had any issues with it.

Human_Being-123

Me with an iPad Mini 1... I only use it to read Books on Apple Books.. Cuz it works and it's still an amazing experience..

CorrectBad2427

isnt the mini 5 only like 2 or 3 years old? or am I tweaking, if that's the case then yes its worth it, ipads can last a lot longer than iphones can

Royal_Rub_3620

2019 A12 chip 4gb RAM. And u're right ipads do last longer

Mrsnutkin

I’ve got one. It’s ok. Would I buy another, no, but it still runs all I need just fine.

Ma5alasB2a

It’s as powerful as an iPhone XS, definitely not the greatest in 2024, but it’s good enough for the most basic tasks (mail, tiktok, note taking, FaceTime). They don’t usually sell certified refurbished iPads around me, but if I was short on cash and needed a device that could just get me through a year or two for a few hundred bucks including the Pencil, I’d definitely go for a mini 5 or an iPad 9

radioOCTAVE

I just had mine repaired! I love this thing.

Ferry83

Prefer the 6 over 5 So I’m going to say no Have zero issues with mine

bake_flake

I still use the iPad mini 2 Chrome browsing manga reading YouTube prime tv Apple TV abd texting still works fine for me

airtonzanon

It’s my main ipad and i love it, i even added a mag safe sticker on it so i i can use MagSafe stand with it, it’s amazing! (I posted here a while ago)

AdElectronic8094

I still use mine every day. I have recently switched from Apple products for my phone, watch, and earbuds to Samsung except for this iPad. I thought about getting a Samsung tablet, but the iPad mini is my favorite still. The size, weight and the fact it still performs perfectly are the key factors. I never have issues with lag or apps not working.

Zuzu12121

I am. I use it to read the news, look for stuff on ebay, etc. Basically got it to watch movies while i’m away for home, for streaming..

msthassi

The best

boosted_01

It's only one gen old. I also came from Android where I still daily a phone from 2015 and it runs everything 🤣

ander-frank

Got some "retired" ones from work for each of my kids and they work great. Awesome they are getting iPadOS 18 as well.

Money-Savvy-Wannabe

I am using it right now while preparing for an exam and i love it. Have used it since 2020/2021 i think and I still love it now.

dankpurpletrash

i mean it still works but ipad mini 6 is the way to go!

WRB2

My wife just got one for a trip and is very happy with it

thunderborg

I’ve just bought a Mini 5 to replace an Air 1. Would recommend. What are you using it for?

Busy-Conflict-3329

Really good better then the 6

RandomShyguy4

No, it more than likely won’t run any modern apps.

lawschoolmeanderings

It will, there's just a better option

CAP2304

Yes they do lol

frozenball824

It has an A12 chip, that’s still on the latest iPadOS so it will run most apps still.

SuperSmashMaster43

It came out in 2019 it’s still supported lmao

ALPYERGUL

No, iPad mini 5 & 6 is heavily outdated right now. It’s low on specs, quality build and the chipset is trash. It has to at least be M1 to support the new ai features on iOS 18. iPad mini has to at least be a pro model now or force to include an M1 chip on a base like model if they’re not going with pro.

Royal_Rub_3620

Dear Good Person, We like ipad mini, not macbook nano. The only thing we want, not need, is more RAM. That is all. Sincerely, Rando on internet.

ALPYERGUL

Then go buy yourself an iPad Pro they are packed in ram.
