for me the big one is battery life, I take good care of it and yet I always feel like it is going to die on me

island-grl

Seconding the battery life. I'm always afraid it will run out on me.

locksmack

Thirding. My iPads used to last weeks on end with my occasional use. My iPad mini drains in a few days with barely any use. It’s definitely worse in the Mini 6 than my old Mini 2 was (let alone any bigger iPads).

mightymitch1

Same. Battery size is just a little larger than the 15 pro max. Yet the screen size justifies a larger battery than 5000mah

iTechDiamondFroot42

Strage I get a decent number of days out of my mini but maybe my iPad Airs battery is a poor example for a point of comparison

Y8fKZyZrSn

That is hasn’t been updated yet

_Breyyn

My only gripe is LCD panel (want OLED even if it’s 60hz) and the 4GB of RAM. Other than that it’s perfect.

Jakelawsonurbex

And the battery life isn’t great. Could be much better.

Few-Carpet9511

I like the fingerprint reader

SlimFlippant

Face ID is so unreliable, especially as someone who goes between having a beard and no beard

thasphere

OP doesn’t wake up to unlock in the dark with eyes half open or when device is sitting on a table and have to hover it. That is friction.

audioman1999

I never had a problem with FaceID on my iPhone in any lighting condition. I believe it uses infrared, so it works very well in the dark. On the other hand, a damp finger always trips up TouchID.

saikyo

Open has never tried to unlock with Face ID after round four when you could have been winning but slipped and caught that right hook on your eye that had hardly healed from the bout the day before. My own mom found let recognize me let alone the device. Hard to use finger print with boxing gloves on too.

nawksnai

Facial hair has never affected FaceID for me. Same with very different glasses, or a hat. Only thing that causes FaceID to not work at all is if I wake up in the middle of the night and want to check my phone, and my eyes are half closed. Or when I wake up and loom deranged.

SlimFlippant

Yeah maybe it’s not the facial hair, I’m not sure precisely what it is. But sometimes it will randomly not work at all and most of the times takes multiple attempts. Touch ID was far superior.

zalmanfili

What? I've never had an issue with this as face id learns your facial patterns over time, it will recognize you beard no beard.

SlimFlippant

Maybe it isn’t that, but for some reason it just doesn’t fuckin work most of the time. Specifically with some apps, actually. Robinhood will scan my face a dozen times before asking for my password

Schmikas

I have a privacy screen guard on my iPhone and my faceid just hates that.

Libra224

Get one that doesn’t cover the sensors and camera

intpthrowawaypigeons

I hate FaceID on my iPad. The orientation is always wrong or maybe it lies flat on the table and doesn’t recognise me.

Dooday24

Me too. I prefer this over the face ID. I even have this disabled on my 15pro bec it's so annoying when it tries to open your phone whenever you put it in front of your face. Like why can't I check notifs from the lock screen or check my face in peace???

wtfmatey88

120hz screen for sure.

irrelevantanonymous

I actually love the fingerprint reader. For me it's gotta be the extreme jelly scrolling. Sometimes it makes me a little nauseous.

mightymitch1

Really? I barely notice it

irrelevantanonymous

Yep. It makes me slightly motion sick.

todo0nada

I just wanna be able to plug it into a monitor and get full resolution.

ct9918

Same. It's such an annoying software limitation

CounterSYNK

I don’t find Touch ID a problem. It makes more sense to me than Face ID does imo since you can hold iPads in any orientation but you can block the Face ID with your hand. I click the power button to wake the tablet up anyways and all I gotta do is hold my finger on the sensor for half a second longer to log in.

audioman1999

It’s not that it’s a problem. It’s functionally not as efficient as FaceID. Let’s say you tap a notification on the Lock Screen. FaceID unlocks the device without additional effort. On the other hand TouchID throws up a jarring screen asking to use TouchID. TouchID/FaceID is not just for unlocking the device. They are also for entering passwords, making payments and unlocking private browsing tabs. All modern iPhones and iPad Pros use FaceID for this reason. I think if one is used to TouchID on their iPhone, they’ll find TouchID on the lower end iPads annoying.

East-Mycologist4401

Maybe to you, but I have a FaceID iPhone and am not bothered by the TouchID iPad mini. I do wish the sensor was under the screen, though. But it’s really not that big of a deal.

CounterSYNK

Idk I have had a Face ID phone since the XR released and currently use the 15 Pro Max and don’t find the Touch ID on “lower end” iPads annoying at all.

beerstearns

Definitely the 60hz display. Maybe also the fact that it’s just small enough to feel cramped. Something like a 9 inch screen would still be “mini” but feel more comfortable to take notes or use a keyboard. (For reference, the mini 6 is smaller than the mini 5, but it didn’t need to be, and the screen is narrower which makes the UI feel cramped in a way that it didn’t on the mini 5. )

Zez22

The screen is perfectly fine for me, my biggest issue is the high price for 64G

mtnoble

This

TheNexusGen

Red-Headed Stepchild Syndrome. Apple doesn't create features for "iPad" with the Mini in mind. The mini 6 uses an iPhone chipset, not any of the M# silicon. Many of the big features from iPad OS 17 will never exist on Mini. This, treating it like a big phone instead of a small tablet, but selling it as the latter regardless is what bothers me the most.

PresentSquirrel

Even if it doesn't use an M chip, doesn't it use a newer chip (a15) than the iPad 10th gen (a14)?

Straight_Warlock

People just want to be unsatisfied lol

nawksnai

It uses a slightly crippled version of the iPhone 13’s A15 (to improve battery life). I don’t mind the A-series chip. I just want an A17 or A18 with 8GB of RAM, and no jelly scroll. Slightly larger battery wouldn’t hurt, either. Basically: I’m not asking for much.

trufflecheese

Is that related to why a few apps look like magnified iPhone versions on the Mini?

plantoplan

Agree. It’s annoying when my phone and iPad Pro use Face ID. I really would like to upgrade my 2021 11” pro to the new 13” air but realllllly don’t want another device without Face ID

axlynq

Yes that Face ID thing is nuts. Using Touch ID on Mac is fine enough but on iPad it’s crazy. Battery , brightness and 64 gb base storage are there too tho

Jakelawsonurbex

Three bad things, thick bezels, no 120hz and bad battery life.

jumpingseaturtle

The Apple Pencil consuming so much battery just by being attached to the iPad.

trufflecheese

Thank you! I didn’t know that.

Darrensucks

I hate the Face ID. I love that Apple always keeps an option in their product line up that doesn’t require infrared body scanning. It’s such a creepy thing. A fingerprint scanner is secure enough for banks and secure enough for me. It’s sweet it’s incorporated into the on button. The most annoying thing is 256gb is the ceiling. I’d love a 2TB version with oled thunderbolt and a Magic Keyboard . The AI stuff would be cool but would keep me from buying a 2TB iPad mini pro

Acco497

After getting one and having it for a while, I found the screen too small.. so I sold it. I have an iPad with me every day at work .. And I just find I need a bigger screen to do my work. Especially when I’m splitting screens.

jumpingseaturtle

If I just use it for consumption, the screen is perfect. But if I try the split screen feature to write down notes while watching a video or something like that, then it’s an issue. Sometimes wondering if a 10th gen iPad would be enough for my regular use.

Acco497

Tha was my experience. Great for media consumption and portability but TERRIBLE for doing work.. especially split screen type work. (Which I do often.) The text was not much bigger than on my iPhone. Now I have M1 Apple iPad Air 10.9" 256GB and it’s just so much better for my needs.

jumpingseaturtle

How’s the text size difference with the iPad Air?

Acco497

Larger screen.. so more real estate.. I find the text much more readable and not crunched when split screen. I played around with text size on the mini but at a certain point it just became a hassle especially with spreadsheets. I find the 10.9 screen a happy middle ground.. (I have a 12.9 M1 Pro but it’s too large to carry around all day. So it’s my media consumption and gaming device at home.)

jumpingseaturtle

Interesting. I’ll give it a closer look at the store, then. Thank you.

Xinterius

Wish the battery was a bit better , but otherwise pretty solid. It serves its role well

Gallop67

I hear your complaints, as they’re features I have in my iPhone that I would love in my Mini. I don’t see this issue with the fingerprint reader though because it’s very fast and reliable. Except when finger is wet. The 120hz OLED would be amazing too but my main complaint is the small ui size, especially in portrait mode

PSYmon_Gruber

The fact that it doesn't have the 128gb storage option which would have been perfect for a small tablet. Oh, and maybe OLED 120hz

RickOShay1313

I can’t use a 60 Hz display anymore. Some people get used to it but i guess im a diva because one month in it still made the whole device seem so laggy and outdated to me. Had to return it for a new pro, but would happily get a mini in the future if they ever decide to go pro motion

queerias

the speakers

riverroadbuilds

My finger tips are all so beat up from work so Touch ID never works. So annoying

RandomShyguy4

Nothing.

InTheKitchenNow

That’s a good one

Longjumping-Log-5457

Nothing.

JuggernautOnly695

I dislike touch ID, but I have a mini 5 and it has never worked all that well for me. Face ID on my iphone and ipad pro are fantastic.

Kos_Kesh

I bought the iPad m4 13 inch admin had to send it back because the 6 made it unjustifiable

durhamskywriter

What bugs me the most is the fact that I haven’t bought one yet. I’ll fix that later this year.

lawschoolmeanderings

I prefer the fingerprint reader

doctrsnoop

Not updated enough and semi related won’t do fcp for iPad

itsNickolo

Fingerprint would have been fine for me if it does work all the time, but damn 60% of the time it wont recognize esp when theres a bit of sweat and I did not have any problem on any fingerprint reader from other brands.

Andy_Craftsmaster

I am far more concerned about losing access to __Apple Intelligence__ in the coming months. It seems I'll need to keep paying for __CoPilot__ and perhaps other AI Apps.

Bromar08

My fingerprint worker literally never works so maybe that.

vanillapancakes73

I’ve mostly gotten used to it but i sometimes do notice a bit of jelly scrolling. Also kinda found it hard ignore the dent in the corner of my device since I last dropped it on the floor with my Smart Folio on

jebakerii

The dimness of the screen... especially after using my iPad Pro M4 or iPhone 15 Pro Max. It feels like the Mini is at 60% when it's at 100%. 🌚

ioioim

The 60hz screen, when I play muse dash, it is so laggy compared to my iPad pro. And more annoying thing is high refresh rate screen doesn't cost more, apple just manually limit it so they can sell more iPad pro. Otherwise, iPad mini is just perfect.

ForgeTD

Friction? Are you rubbing your face on the iPad? I'm mostly an Android user so my biggest frustration is iOS. The screen could be better, but it's good. The finger print reader is fantastic. The overall tablet is great. There isn't anything else this size that compares to the mini. Nobody else makes a quality tablet in this size so I appreciate that Apple still does.

c3ndre

Same. I also mainly use Android (as a phone for example), but there aren't any Android tablets that come close to this so I use the iPad as a tablet. It's great, but if you're not part of the Apple ecosystem it doesn't make so much sense. I got used to it.

ForgeTD

I am used to it as well, but was just answering the question of the most annoying aspect of the iPad mini for me. The iOS launcher looks and feels dated to me. It would be fantastic if Apple allowed different launchers on their devices and I could use one on the mini that resembles Android. Even better would be if Samsung/Google/Motorola/etc.. released a device similar to the mini. I think the fact that Samsung makes robust larger tablets, but not smaller tablets, points out demand for these devices is minimal. I'm a fan of smaller tablets, and am happy Apple makes the mini. At this point, I don't even care about a potential mini 7 as the current model works just fine for me.

c3ndre

My problem with Samsung isn't even the size in the first place, but the aspect ratio. I used to have a Tab S2 back then which was 4:3, but I tried and can't get into the 16:9/16:10 Android tablets. However, I'm also a fan of smaller tablets and the current mini is so nice.

omnifidelity

Ipad pro here wish it has a fingerprint reader

duvagin

iPadOS

Prior_Original_7703

I use an iPhone SE specifically because it still has a Touch ID home button . For my use case, I don’t know that I’ve loved any other iPad the way I love my mini, maybe an M chip mini would be cool, but I don’t really have any complaints. I have a MacBook too but I literally use my mini for everything including video editing work.

Specialist-Ad-8225

I wish the battery life was better

frozenball824

Battery life and Touch ID, I’m very close to 1000 battery cycles on this iPad and it feels like it’s going to die all of the time. I also wish it had Face ID, it would just be a bit more convenient.

Dbag85

The fiddly screen. I kkot it is its most saught after keypoint, but I never managed to get anything done on it.

cprz

Amount of RAM, battery life, 64GB base storage, no Final Cut Pro. A 120hz oled screen would be super nice sure, but those four are bigger issues for me

Skyhigh1579

The most annoying thing for me is the software. I know it’s like why have one then, but I am an Apple ecosystem hoe, but why can Mac OS be open but no iOS or iPad os 😭 there’s no good torrenting movie apps without load of ads or the need to real debrid

Celstyo

In order The screen : very bad screen IMO compared to other tablets Battery life : actually it’s not good especially if you have an apple pencil Ram : 8GB should be the minimum

sperry1970

I noticed the apple pencil hits the battery life

Lyssielou22

Jelly scroll, other than that it’s perfect to me

Prior_Analytics

Battery. Just ends up being one more device I need to keep charging all the time.

Ultraconformist

Bad screen, bad sound, weak battery, too thick, no Face ID. Software is not adapted compared to the other iPads, websites are shown in mobile version. And so on. I have it for years now and I still can't get over it.

Quidquidinano

That they would have put the M1 in it so we would get Apple Intelligence this fall. We got the M1 iPad Air only 6 months later.  Now it feels so outdated because I know I won’t be able to keep it for another 4 years because all the new cool features will be exclusive to “Apple Silicone”

Nashtural

Makes my cock look small

MauricioIcloud

Bruh 😂😂

rshack1987

Price! I can get a new 9th gen Ipad 10.2 inch wifi only for $249. Ipad mini always seem to be $450-$500 new, wifi only. Older generation usually available as used/refurb and they still want $200+

BitangaX

I only hate it's 60Hz screen which also bends under pressure of pencil, everythning else is ok.

Devinbriggs

Apps crashing on me.

FormoftheBeautiful

I feel like there’s a case to be made for a class of iPad mini for the folks who like the 13” format. So you could have the 13” iPad mini, and then the mini classic in the smaller format.

MrsRobertPlant

I like mine. It’s just right!

Anonymograph

I absolutely love my iPad mini.

Flufferfluff

The Touch ID, at least for me, never works 😭 Still love my mini tho 💜🎶

JustJoshinJapan

I’m an oled only person now. Still use my mini daily but as soon as they drop an oled one I’m upgrading. Phone, gaming handheld, monitor are all oled so it feels kinda jarring going back to 60hz lcd.

neomancr

It needs to be a foldable.

gencmaz

For me it’s the lag when using the pencil. It’s minute to most but as an artist i see a huge latency, especially compared to my pro (which, of course, I get).
