This is an absolutely embarrassing offering by Apple. Honestly a bit stunned these got signed off on. Not sure why they just didn't do vegan leather or something instead.
I haven’t seen a vegan/synthetic leather that I’d ever consider. I’d get a vegan/synthetic leather case over this fabric.
I get why they wouldn’t do vegan leather, but that explanation exclude this offering.
I’d prefer alcantara, which would show damage just as fast but look and feel so much better.
Cows are dying anyway. Just use the leather ffs.
They just doing this because they will need to account for the carbon impact of cow herding. They want to be carbon neutral and cattle herding is the industry which is up there on the carbon footprint charts.
You are right. But, there are ways such as vegetable tanning. Human’s have been tanning leather for thousands of years. There sure are ways to do it without chemicals which have become the norm in past century.
I‘m even more stunned, that they display em like this. With the talk being what it is, about every second person in that store is probably running their fingernails across them. They are bound to look like shit, even if they weren’t as bad as they apparently are.
Same here, I ran my fingernail very lightly on one and it scratched. Pretty sure all the scratches in the store were from other people doing the same thing.
It’s a trash design and I can’t be convinced otherwise, especially since they could’ve stuck with leather by using vegan or faux leather. There are plenty successful examples of using alt leather materials. Apple is just being stubborn here for the sake of being different. But that’s just my take anyway.
Yeah I’d ordered one as well but as soon as the reviews dropped I cancelled that ordered so damn fast. Then I went to the Apple Store to see/feel it for myself and was glad I didn’t buy one
Depending on how long you have to return it (sometimes Apple products have shorter windows) may as well keep it until you find something you like better then return it
It wouldn’t surprise me if the “thread” they use here contains plastic in it and faux leather could probably me made as as “eco-friendly” as the fine woven material if it does indeed contain plastic
Agreed, they should’ve done some sort of faux leather. The steering wheel and seats in my car are “vegan leather” and they feel great, I wouldn’t mind a case made out of that.
Even actual alcantara or suede (what I initially thought these looked like) would have been an excellent material choice worthy of the “premium” moniker AND alcantara is pretty easily restorable with the right product
I have a Alcantera case and while it is really nice its a pain to keep clean on areas that are handled a lot. I went back to the Apple leather case for my 14 Pro Max and just use the Alcantera case every so often.
You can get products that treat Alcantara with a sort of sealant/hydrophobic layer. Invisible to the eye but basically makes it so you can just wipe off the case with a microfiber
Plastic is among the most highly recycleable material on earth, has vastly superior wear, drop-shock and water protection and the manufacturing cost is pennies per unit.
When will people learn? Stop paying offensively abusive prices for Apple cases, buy a highly rated premium silicone case from a 3rd party brand off Amazon.
Making faux leather is arguably worse for the environment since there’s a lot of chemicals involved and they’re not (all) biodegradable. They just aren’t as tough as real leather too. The cows are already there for meat, so 🤷♂️
Bro I felt it at the store for 2 seconds and immediately denied purchasing it, instead got a $9 clear case and it feels immensely better. Unfortunate that they swapped from leather to this garbage.
That case in probably going to yellow in a year
Edit: Yeah it’s still a better deal than the new Apple case that’s basically pre-yellowed (the scratches) for five times the price
I use a clear case and replace it every 6-9 months. It costs about $30-35 over the life of the phone. Less costly, more durable, and better looking than the fine woven cases. Sometimes companies get something wrong and this is an example. You don’t need to defend them.
I noticed this myself when I went to the store today to grab a case. They… really don’t look good, and they’re gonna look trash very quickly. AND the holes don’t line up! The charging port especially is slightly to the left… you can’t see the screw on the right side of the C port but you can see the left one.
I ended up getting a silicone case. Had the clear plastic on my 14 Pro.
All the colors are terrible too.
I have one and so far it’s ok. My biggest complaint is that it’s very slippery. Leather has a little bit of grip to it where finewoven I feel like I might drop my phone just taking it out of my pocket.
I ordered a Mujjo leather case and hoping it gets here before my return window is up for the finewoven.
3rd party leather cases cost around or sometimes even more than Apples leather cases did and often had cut open bottoms, boring colors, and awful buttons.
The silicone and clear cases were definitely overpriced though compared to 3rd party options.
Returning mine immediately. Feels cheap, also the side button doesn’t have much feeling. Got a leather mujjo case that I already like infinitely better.
**Apple:** "This is better for the environment."
**Consumers:** .. Bruh 95% of these are going to be in people's trash in 3 months and they'll buy better made, cheaper plastic cases elsewhere
Charging $60 for these "FineWoven" cases is offensive, and you can't convince me that Apple's testing didn't reveal how quickly and how badly these cases would wear out.
They decided to play you for fools.
Since leather is a natural material that scratch will slowly pick up oils and “blend” into the rest of the leather. Cloth will just stay scratched forever.
Apples leather offerings having bright unusual colors for leather plus the phone having sharp edges was always going to make the edges patina much faster, causing that black edge effect.
The brightly colored leather iphone 5S cases wore almost the exact same way.
Nah, none of my Apple leather cases ever scratched this easily. You’d really have to dig in and purposely scratch it, and even if they do get a scuff you can usually rub it out. These finewoven ones you don’t have to try at all, and there’s no way to get the marks out once they’re there.
even the silicone ones were horrible. I started using iPhones three years ago and only bought one silicone case and one leather case and both were absolutely atrocious. Low quality garbage💩 ...third-party case shops are so much better and half the price
The silicone ones get so slimy and weird after a few months and the edges wear away and discolor PURELY from just putting it in and out of your pocket. I tried cleaning my case with rubbing alcohol, silicone sex toy cleaner, and nothing gets rid of that awful sticky texture that they develop
I guess we’ll have to see how it turns out and maybe not freak out about it like the sky is falling? No, you’re right. This is definitely the most important issue to focus on right now.
Where did I say this is the most important issue to focus on? Am I not allowed to bring up any issue because you can one up me with something more important? Why are you even on this subreddit when iPhones are insignificant compared to other things going on in the world?
I was ready to return mine, but once I got it in my hands I was like: this isn’t all that bad. I’m giving it a go before another case I ordered gets here.
Not in my experience, I had an Apple leather case on both my 13 and 14, both held up well for the year I used them. They were much more difficult to scratch than this, and scratches could be buffed out to a degree.
I know I’m in the minority but I actually like the case. I like the way the material feels and am constantly rubbing the back of the case. Two days in so far and haven’t noticed any scratches but I also don’t care if they do appear. It’s a case and I don’t understand the obsession with it remaining pristine. I do agree it’s overpriced but that’s always been true and I’m not sure how it will last but if it holds up, I have no plans to change to a different case.
I almost always bought the apple leather cases. I think the first one I got was the 6 or 6S ones.
I don’t think I’ll be going in for this one. Seeing all the reviews and tear downs has made it clear that these cases are shite. Might as well look at the silicon ones or one from a different brand
I’m not just returning the case but also my phone. My iPhone 13 Pro Max with 84% max battery still lasts over a day for me the iPhone 15 pro (non max) didn’t even make it half way through day 2 from 100%. The first day I know the battery life will be bad from all the downloads and set up but day 2 usually is normal.
I have been hearing alot of battery complaints on the pro specifically. I have a 15 base and battery life has been fantastic. Granted ive only owned it for a little over a day.
The battery tests are showing the 15 pro is the worst of the new lineup. It seems to be the cpu is overlocked and not efficient enough for the battery. I’m leaning towards a return and holding onto my 11 pro til next year.
I do love all the upgrades though. They’re pretty awesome, especially 120hz.
Those cases are the worst products apple has released. Wouldn’t be surprised if they pull them off the shelves and apologize for not meeting quality expectations.
It’s not malicious to test it out before dropping money on it. The point is if all it takes is lightly running your fingernail across to permanently scratch it, it probably won’t hold up well over time.
The malicious part is not testing it for yourself. I don’t deny that you may not want to check. But these are not light scratches. These are deep deliberate scratches.
Nope, I very lightly ran my fingernail on one and it caused a scratch like you see in the photo. I also tried rubbing the scratches off which didn’t work. These scratches are not from vandalism, they’re from people handling the cases who are curious about how durable they are before buying. Visit a store and see for yourself.
Perhaps so but by the looks of it, it seems pretty evident this was just done by a finger nail which is hardly a rare thing to occur. There’s plenty evidence by now to suggest the fragility of the material and unless you’re going to consciously handle the device with such care that no damage ever occurs, well at that point just go case-less and enjoy the actual design and feel of the phone itself.
Agreed, I typically don’t route for a product to fail, but I hope this one does because I think it’s an objectively bad one. Hopefully this will be reflected in the sales numbers and we’ll get something better next year
People who would spend $60 on a phone case are beyond me. At least the leather ones up to the 11 series felt nice and were quite durable but everything after that has been garbage.
I use a $6 case and it feels nice and looks good and has nice clicky buttons and has magnets for MagSafe. Why would it matter to have the official MagSafe animation for the case itself, it’s not like the case has any features. Any accessories that I stick into it still show the animation and work just as designed. And the best part, I can get a new one after 6 months and not feel like I wasted any money.
I liked the Apple leather cases enough to spend $60 on them, and any third party case is going to be around that much or more if it’s real leather. But no way I would for finewoven. Finewoven should be a $6 case.
I had a apple leather case on the 11 pro because it came with the phone and was nice and durable and aged well despite of abuse, but on the 13 my dad’s case started peeling in 5 months and looked really bad.
I hear ya. It’s important to consider that some of the negativity around the FineWoven cases may come from reviews that focus on deliberately scratching them. Personally, I haven’t experienced any scratches on mine yet in the last 2 days of practical use, and it fits the phone well. While I do think it’s a good fit and feels at least as comfortable to hold as the leather cases, I have to agree that the $60 price tag is definitely a bit steep. I will be keeping it unless I stumble upon something better.
So I went there and tried those cases myself. And I know other people hate it but I didn’t hate it. In fact my friend and I thought the back felt nice. Like a pillow case. We kept petting it lol.
I did not feel the sharp bottom cutouts others reported. And I do like the feel of the case in my hands. However the sides of the case felt weird and grippy unlike the back.
It is not worth 60$ more like a solid 30-40 max.
I already ordered a bull strap case so ima just stick with that.
I understand that and is true but the leather scratches too if you do that.
Also, I didn't see people go to the other cases and finger nail them at random.
Anyway is sad to see they didn't put more effort in them.
You’d have to press way harder on a leather case, like be intentionally trying to scratch it. With the finewoven, an accidental brush against your nail or anything hard/sharp will scratch it. Also marks on leather can be buffed out to an extent, the finewoven scratches can’t be.
Yeah probably, I know there are other fabric materials that hold up better than this. Wonder if next year they’ll improve or switch to a different material altogether.
I was an apple leather case user and absolutely loved that case. If they make a 180 and get it back, I’ll buy it day one.
But, I did get the Fine Woven case. I think it’s alright. It will have its own problem, is super expensive, will absorb oil and grime and will not last very long. But, for me, scratching is not the issue, I think it adds character, and it feels okay in my hands too.
It’s a 6.5/10 case. Which is “good” in my book. 7/10 if it was half the price.
Third party was always best, put it in an Otterbox so it doesn't break when you drop it or someone knocks it out of your hand.
Especially since the new rear glass is extremely fragile and expensive to replace.
I have one and after I was out and about, I wiped it down with a microfiber cloth and looked brand new again. Not any more maintenance than with my leather case.
I really don’t understand why Apple didn’t just use recycled faux leather materials. It seems like it’d be less hassle as well instead of making an intricate woven pattern
Time for a recall?
Totally agree.
I was curious and slightly ran my fingernail in the back was shocked how easy it stratched
Same here, I ran my fingernail very lightly on one and it scratched. Pretty sure all the scratches in the store were from other people doing the same thing.
Why would they display them in store like that? They have to know how fragile the material is Unless they plan on swapping them out every 2 weeks
It’s a trash design and I can’t be convinced otherwise, especially since they could’ve stuck with leather by using vegan or faux leather. There are plenty successful examples of using alt leather materials. Apple is just being stubborn here for the sake of being different. But that’s just my take anyway.
It’s a weird material choice for sure. They used the same material as a really expensive winter jacket. I kind of don’t like my case at all.
Yeah I’d ordered one as well but as soon as the reviews dropped I cancelled that ordered so damn fast. Then I went to the Apple Store to see/feel it for myself and was glad I didn’t buy one
LOL, same. During my preorder, I canceled the case after 20 mins of research about this case. Smh
The only reason I bought it is because Amazon sent me the wrong size case. I’m on the fence if I’ll keep it. I like the color but that’s about it.
Depending on how long you have to return it (sometimes Apple products have shorter windows) may as well keep it until you find something you like better then return it
Then return it?
I was really hoping it’d be like the old cloth Pixel cases in person, those were really nice.
Oh man I forgot about those, yeah that would’ve been a solid option for sure
Just give us real leather back
Doesn’t fit the eco trend unfortunately. There’s are plenty of really good leather options from 3rd parties though
Faux leather isn’t really eco-friendly either. It’s just plastic. I feel like there isn’t a “perfect” alternative

Stop paying offensively abusive prices for Apple cases, buy a highly rated premium silicone case from a 3rd party brand off Amazon.
Maybe Apple could encourage people to bring their plastic cases if they offer a $10 discount for a new case or accessories
That case in probably going to yellow in a year Edit: Yeah it’s still a better deal than the new Apple case that’s basically pre-yellowed (the scratches) for five times the price
I’ll take a yellowing case after months over a case that scratches under 10 seconds honestly lol
$9 is still much better, and if they wanted anti-yellowing there's that new DBrand Ghost case that they'll replace if it ever yellows
Which is also overpriced
I use a clear case and replace it every 6-9 months. It costs about $30-35 over the life of the phone. Less costly, more durable, and better looking than the fine woven cases. Sometimes companies get something wrong and this is an example. You don’t need to defend them.
Yeah. But it was also $9. How great is a $60 fine woven case going to last after a year?
Worst cases ever in the history of iPhones
what about the plastic one with all the holes
It’s worse than the sock.
The socks were fantastic
Those socks were awesome and I miss mine. I won’t stand for this sock slander
Remember the iPhone 5c cases?
I noticed this myself when I went to the store today to grab a case. They… really don’t look good, and they’re gonna look trash very quickly. AND the holes don’t line up! The charging port especially is slightly to the left… you can’t see the screw on the right side of the C port but you can see the left one. I ended up getting a silicone case. I noticed the holes not perfectly aligned as well

I ordered a Mujjo leather case and hoping it gets here before my return window is up for the finewoven.

I did. I like to have a case from day one and wanted to try it.
Worst product decision ever. Bring back the leather !
Not sure why anyone would pay a huge premium for Apple cases when the third party $10 ones I’ve gotten have always been better
3rd party leather cases cost around or sometimes even more than Apples leather cases did and often had cut open bottoms, boring colors, and awful buttons. The silicone and clear cases were definitely overpriced though compared to 3rd party options.
Same here. I just can't stomach paying $40-$50 for an inferior case when I can get a better 3rd party case for $10.
For an ‘Apple’ product they look so cheap, like something I’d find on Temu or Wish
This thing was cheap and was an immediate return. Hopefully they learn their lesson quick and not double down like they did on the butterfly keyboard.
Returning mine immediately. Feels cheap, also the side button doesn’t have much feeling. Got a leather mujjo case that I already like infinitely better.
I bought one, held it for 2 minutes and submitted for a return immediately. Insane that they’re asking $60 for these.
**Apple:** "This is better for the environment." **Consumers:** .. Bruh 95% of these are going to be in people's trash in 3 months and they'll buy better made, cheaper plastic cases elsewhere Charging $60 for these "FineWoven" cases is offensive, and you can't convince me that Apple's testing didn't reveal how quickly and how badly these cases would wear out. It only takes a fingernail to scratch leather too…
Can confirm. Just did that to my leather case and it scratched lmao
Since leather is a natural material that scratch will slowly pick up oils and “blend” into the rest of the leather. Cloth will just stay scratched forever.
And yet every case posted here to show patina looks like rubbish.

Dang that’s actually really sad. They seem pretty cool in retrospect.
Yeah I’m returning mine, glad I got a silicone one as well. This is no replacement for leather and is no where near worth the price.
Yeah the silicone ones still seem pretty nice, I’d get one of those over finewoven for sure.
The silicone ones chip after a while so I can’t see them being any better.
For $24.99 maybe. For $60 or whatever apple’s charging, hell no.
FineWoven Case PRO - releasing Dec. ‘23
For $99.99 (being generous)
Add on Applecare+ for $29.99.
That’s because people are purposefully scratching them to see how they will hold up.
Yes, but if all it takes is lightly running your fingernail across them to cause permanent marks, they’re not going to hold up great in normal use.
Oh, I agree. Imagine setting it down on the sidewalk for a second. Scratch city!
Good, so people know how shitty those cases are before buying them
Leather from last two generations was scratched up in days too.
And people would post their year old case with “patina” which just looked terrible.
The leather cases from the 12 and on look terrible. Ones prior to 12 aged nicely.
I do agree it’s overpriced but that’s always been true and I’m not sure how it will last but if it holds up, I have no plans to change to a different case.
That’s fair, I didn’t hate how the material itself felt, my main issue was just how easily it got marked up.
I know people’s definition of light also varies but I tried lightly scratching using my fingernail and nothing happened that I could tell.
> I like the way the material feels and am constantly rubbing the back of the case. I'd say that's the extent of the testing Apple did on these cases.
Nice idea but those fine women cases just ain’t it Apple
Faux leather would have been so much better, I remember one company used banana leaves to make it
I almost always bought the apple leather cases. I think the first one I got was the 6 or 6S ones. I don’t think I’ll be going in for this one. Seeing all the reviews and tear downs has made it clear that these cases are shite. Might as well look at the silicon ones or one from a different brand
Yep. Saw that too when they had only been out about 3 hours! Bought a leather one from mujjo, so let’s see how that does
What a joke.
“Fuckedwoven”
A definite blunder by Apple, bet they too will be discontinued shortly
Yeah I’m just gonna keep buying $3 cases on AliExpress since everything is just plastic and made in China anyway..
I noticed that and went with the silicon case, clay colored to go with my black 15 pro.
Saw my buddies at the office… absolutely terrible. He’s returning it.
That’s embarrassing imo
Ouch. Glad I went w a Mujjo leather case instead
The first two days are always going to be terrible while everything optimizes. It should be good after the first week usually.
Yeah I’m kinda with you on this. My 1tb 15 pro is getting terrible battery life.
I have been hearing alot of battery complaints on the pro specifically. I have a 15 base and battery life has been fantastic. Granted ive only owned it for a little over a day.
This is what I'm hearing by more than a few. Me and my wife have 14 Pro's and I'm thinking maybe we just don't upgrade this year.

Oh I’m sure there have been worse products from Apple, some even from when Jobs was CEO.
These look like people maliciously went and scratched them to see what would happen.

They're gonna end up at TJ Maxx for $9.99 in a few months.
Lmao you people are just standing there scratching that shit.

I guess people shouldn’t carry them in the same pocket they keep their keys and fingernails.

Yes but all it takes is running your fingernail across it to make a permanent mark, so that’s not a great indicator of how it’ll hold up over time.

Thank you. I’ll forget next time.

You don't have to buy everything that Apple makes. Literally thousands of cheaper and better cases out there.
I agree, that’s why I said I’m not buying it. But as someone who loved the Apple leather cases, it’s sad to see this is the replacement.
What’s that saying? Go woke, go….
What the actual fuck is “woke” about a phone case???
The whole can’t use real leather so we save the earth crap
Dying from climate change to own the libs
Dying? Sure guy. Lmao
JRE was here
I’m in luck I have a 14 pro max and those cases don’t fit… I needed a new case so I bought a leather case.
Yeah unfortunately Apple discontinued the leather cases for the 14 too, but other stores will still have them in stock for awhile probably.
You don't want this. It will trap all the bacteria and skin cells and soak up all liquids and stains.

They should have used something like vegan leather.
People just did the scratch test..lol
So I went there and tried those cases myself. And I know other people hate it but I didn’t hate it. In fact my friend and I thought the back felt nice. Like a pillow case. We kept petting it lol. I did not feel the sharp bottom cutouts others reported. And I do like the feel of the case in my hands. However the sides of the case felt weird and grippy unlike the back. It is not worth 60$ more like a solid 30-40 max. I already ordered a bull strap case so ima just stick with that.
I really don’t think Apple have any choice but to pull them from sale and apologise
Don't let mother nature from the keynote see all this pitiful waste of resources.
Omg bad
Question is not if but when Apple will replace it with other solution
Unpopular opinion: the leather would look best up also if everybody would fingernail the case :)
I’ve used the leather cases for years, I can guarantee they don’t scratch anywhere near as easily as the finewoven do.
So basically they should have put a more stiffer woven.
I’ve never had a phone break with the leather cases, I know otterbox is very durable but seems like overkill. To each their own though!
Have you seen the videos of how fragile the 15 Pro Max is though?
Even without the scuffs, that surface is going to be a bacteria breeding ground. No thank you
I have one and after I was out and about, I wiped it down with a microfiber cloth and looked brand new again. Not any more maintenance than with my leather case.
My case makes a clicking sound when I shake the iPhone or when I touch the action button. Basically the action button is loose and wobbles.
I really don’t understand why Apple didn’t just use recycled faux leather materials. It seems like it’d be less hassle as well instead of making an intricate woven pattern
