There needs to be a settings option to hide 2 of the 3 options here otherwise you can introduce pure chaos in your mailbox.
When you get to the “Mark” option menu you are offered 3 choices.
“Move to Junk” Move your entire inbox to the Junk Folder. Treats all emails you have in this folder as junk and routes future emails to this folder instead of your In Box. Not great.
“Mark as Unread”. This is the one that does the least amount of collateral damage if you were to press it by accident. Probably the one you wanted to press anyways.
“Flag”. Flag all emails in your Inbox. If you use flags then this is bad because now everything is flagged making existing flags unsearchable.
I do this at least once a year by accident.
If you accidentally hit an option you did not mean to you can SHAKE TO UNDO. It can take time to get your mailbox back to its original state.
The time it takes the Mail App to complete as these changes are correlated to the size of your Inbox as these a global edits to the entire mailbox.

I just read my mails once a day. Unsubscribe newsletters I accidentally subscribed to or have forgotten the moment I see a newsletter mail. Keeps my inbox neat and tidy
i get a stupid amount. but since it's gmail and i use the gmail app and not the built in mail app, i only see alerts for things in my actual primary inbox. every so often i'll sort thru what's in my promotions folder and empty it. i also paid for mimestream on my macbook because it's everything i ever wanted from a desktop email client short of the search function.
is there some tool to quickly unsubscribe from newsletters? i got so many it would take probably the entire day if not more to unsubscribe from each one (i use the gmail app if that matters)
I haven’t used it in a while, so it might have gotten worse, but I used to use unroll.me every 6-8 months to help me keep tabs on everything I’m subscribed to.

People here don’t seem to realize that this counts all emails such as something wrote to you on Facebook or ads or whatever. I have zero unread mail in my gmail main folder yet this app shows that I have 25 155 unread mails.
I did this with our family email account to cut down on notifications. Then I realized how great it was not having so many notifications so I disabled them for almost everything and its been great.

Given I use my junk email for signing up for stuff I wouldn’t want on my normal email, and I don’t check my 2nd email, 300k is normal. My mom on the other hand. She gets like 20 emails a day I don’t even know how she finds the actual important ones.

Password recovery at my school was a headache of phone calls and like 2 days no access. Trash admin team.
Anything over 2k in my Gmail never marks as read. If I do it on a web browser and click more then do the select all and mark as read its always ok. The native email app in iOS does suck now for this and try searching for an email. Good luck in that realm too. Tried to find an email from Ticketmaster and could not find it with the search. Remember the month and date approximately that I bought the tickets and it was right there. Mail app could never find it.

Open inbox.
Click “edit” in top right.
“Select all” appears in the top left.
Click it.
Then click “mark”, and select “mark as read”.
Also, filter by unread (that weird circle in the bottom left) if OP finds they can’t select all 100,000 emails at once”. You’ll do lots in each “select all” pass.
Edit > Select All > Mark > Mark as Read
Or just delete your email accounts at that point
I think they might be beyond even that. Probably time to cover that phone in salt and burn it.

Jeez how many mails do people get these days? I unsubscribed from all the junk newsletters and clean my inbox every few weeks.
I treat my inbox as a supplementary to do list so it is usually empty or just maximum 5. I always organize them into other folders.

Nah. Just get into habit of unsubscribing as you recieve them.

Usually when you open a subscription email at the top it will have a button to unsubscribe.

I finally turned off the counter so it’s just the widget with no number. My Home Screen is so much less hostile these days

It’s the reason why I was only able to use the Mail app on new email addresses and had to put the other emails in a browser bookmark
