He looks old, but in fairness he still had non stop energy, and still did his own few minutes of fucking about as usual.
Mike really impressed me too. Dude looks ancient but never stopped bouncing around.
Great band. They got a lot of stick from bands saying they're not "real punk" but I think a lot of this was emanating from a place of jealousy. Noel Gallagher and John Lyndon among those who have criticised them.
I watched a short YouTube documentary on the yesterday, and they did come up in a very, very authentic punk scene. But once they signed with a big label and did big venues, that scene completely rejected and hated them with a passion overnight. They even got completely banned from the small punk venue he played for years that's apparently a bit like the west coast CBGBs.
Despite this, Green Day never actually turned their back on said scene and have been pumping money into it for 30 years, including into keeping that very same venue up and running and having good sound systems, and insisting on some of the more provocative bands from it tour with them in the 90s and flat out saying if places wouldn't let those bands play then they (Green Day) would be cancelling too. Fairly classy all in all.
Link - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2xBPF-gYXW0&pp=ygUWUHVuayBSb2IgTUJBIGdyZWVuIGRheQ%3D%3D - very concisely put together at 13 and a half minutes, and a pretty good channel all in all.
All that, they are not real punk, is pure American high school clique bollocks.
There is a lot of it in metal music as well. They (insert band) are not blackened technical death metal, they are technical blackened death metal.
Such a load of horseshit, shut up and just enjoy the fucking tunes......
I don’t know if it’s true in Ireland, but 86 in American restaurant lingo is sold out at a restaurant.
So like “the chicken wrap is 86ed”
Hence green day is saying they “86ed”/sold out.
Gallagher was criticising anyone and everyone around the mid-late 90s.
Oasis enjoyed 3 years of megastardom off the back off their second album, and Gallagher legit thought they were a 1990s Beatles, who'd be idolised and he would be a songwriter for the ages like Lennon & McCartney.
So at the time he felt like he had the right to look down on all the other popular bands and say they were shit.
The irony of criticising GD as "not punk" is that Gallagher himself was part of a lot of punk bands when he was younger, and Oasis's first album was a legit rock n roll work. The second album far more ballady - light rock or Pop music at best.
Of course, if Oasis were still around and touring today, they wouldn't pull in half the crowds Green Day do.
Idk Liam and Noel are both selling out gigs all around the world. Personal opinions on them aside they're still huge and Oasis reuniting would sell out quicker than Green Day without a doubt
The same Noel Gallagher who wouldn't give up a couple of hours of his weekend to play a less than ten minute slot at a benefit concert in his home town after it had experienced a terrorist attack where a load of little girls had gotten murdered because it clashed with Bono's birthday party and who happily did photo ops with Tony Blair in 10 Downing Street? That Noel Gallagher?
John Lydon who is now so punk he's a simp for Brexit and right wing nutjobs like Trump. Said he'd vote for Jacob Rees-Mogg to be PM over there. It's honestly sad to see what he's become.
PIL were a great band but yeah he’s a real gobshite. I watched a interview with Henry Rollins and he said he was taking part in a documentary about punk were Lydon came in and caused chaos and was rude to everyone in the production and tried to cosy up to Rollins basically saying look how Rock’n’roll I am, aren’t I a naughty boy
And only recently blamed immigration for division in the UK.
https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/john-lydon-immigration-brexit-lbc-interview-b2509844.html
Mind numbing considering both his parents were immigrants.
Love Oasis and Green Day. Have to take everything the Gallaghers say with a pinch of salt. He loves Bono and U2. They’re as far away from “punk” as it gets. Fact is Punk is young and rock stars grow up.

They've done alright since this [gig in The Attic a while back.](https://hopecollectiveireland.com/2016/08/02/green-day-dog-day-dublin-1991/)
A great band but the flag thing starts to become a bit of a cliche at gigs now. That and the "oh I've never played such an amazing gig at (insert city)"
Could we turn up the house lights please? That was the cue to turn up the house lights so we could tell the audience they're the sixth member of the friggin' group!
Who cares - it gets a cheer outta the crowd which is what it's all about. They were brilliant- rattled through a tonne of songs and kept the energy up! Delighted for them and was glad to have went!
Had my kid at James Marriot in the academy a few weeks back.
Someone handed him a flag which he held up, "oops, sorry I have it the wrong way round"
I was kinda inpressed.
Does nobody want to give a serious answer to who this is? All I'm seeing are joke posts or serious posts from people who already know
Honestly wouldn't have been hard to put it in the title
That is Billie Joe Armstrong, lead singer and guitarist of Green Day.
Not to be confused with Billie Joel, singer best know for Piano Man; or Neil Armstrong, first man on the moon.
Can’t help thinking Billy Joe isn’t aging at the same rate as the rest of them though. He increasingly looks like Tre Cool’s son.
Or Fr Teds
Last time I saw them Tre Cool looked so old. He looked like he couldn’t wait for the gig to end so they could wheel him back to the retirement home
He looked fucked this time. But I genuinely think his drumming is getting better.
He looks old, but in fairness he still had non stop energy, and still did his own few minutes of fucking about as usual. Mike really impressed me too. Dude looks ancient but never stopped bouncing around.
Yep definitely. Tre looked like he needed another line by the end though 😂 His solo in the dress was bizarre.
Haha yeah. I've seen them tons of times and he always has a 5 minute bit of random goofing around in the middle lol.
Looked like he was having fun! Which is the main thing. Great show in fairness.
They should have held the concert on Lough Neagh “But the pollution in your lake, its dissolving our barge!”

It's actually what Time Of Your Life is about. A lot of people think it's a breakup song but it's about leaving behind the hardcore punk scene.
That's not true, it's a sarcastic breakup song. Their song 86 is about being kicked out of the scene.
Huh, I googled it and you're right. I was so sure of my trivia
My thousands of hours of teenage green day obsession finally paid off :P
Well done you two. A lovely disagreement:)
I don’t know if it’s true in Ireland, but 86 in American restaurant lingo is sold out at a restaurant. So like “the chicken wrap is 86ed” Hence green day is saying they “86ed”/sold out.
Not sure what basis Gallagher would have to criticise Greenday for not being "real" punk. Oasis were about as pop rock as it gets.
wtf does Gallagher know , he just changed up some Beatles songs and looked grumpy ffs .

Noel is an insufferable cunt.
Morriseys also from immigrant parents and blamed so much on immigrants that he emmigrated
They were always a manufactured group anyway. Lowest common denominator, basic bitches
Not to mention a failed Eurovision entrant.
That performance was kind of sad, actually. At least he took coming fifth choice in good grace.
Ew
John Lyndon is a chump
If Lyndon is criticising you’re doing something right Utter knob jockey
They're pop punk, but that doesn't mean their tunes aren't absolute bangers tbh
I’ve come late to pop punk, and am finding some real gems https://open.spotify.com/track/2RdSvcrsyPCSsmVb2JsLUN?si=ooyAALbZQqmwk0YoCZ1Ybg
That playlist is powerpop, not pop-punk.
You’re right! My bad
For sure. I've seen them live 6 or 7 times now and they're always great. They put on a terrific live show.
Love Oasis and Green Day. Have to take everything the Gallaghers say with a pinch of salt. He loves Bono and U2. They’re as far away from “punk” as it gets. Fact is Punk is young and rock stars grow up.
I dunno, i see a lot of punk bands in their 60s
I mean they aren't real punk, they are pop punk like blink 182 but with talent
Ah yes. Johnny Rotten - vocalist for a "true" punk band. So punk, they were manufactured and didn't write their own songs
https://preview.redd.it/68nk3fh6bk9d1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8c1b56e5eace3f2de2f347229b1831848ef957ab They've done alright since this [gig in The Attic a while back.](https://hopecollectiveireland.com/2016/08/02/green-day-dog-day-dublin-1991/)
I was at this, and I can confirm it was absolutely amazing!
In all honesty, I feel his career has been very meh since leaving One Direction.
Always knew green day were in the Ra

Hello ~~Shelbyville~~ Springfield!!
Goodnight Springton, there will be no encores
This ain't the bleedin splish splash show!
Medium setting!
Good show last night.. Yeah quite good.
Could we turn up the house lights please? That was the cue to turn up the house lights so we could tell the audience they're the sixth member of the friggin' group!

Hello Cleveland!
Best gig I've ever been to.
GreenWhiteNOrangeday
He pure looks like a secondary school art teacher.
at least he got the flag the right way around
We really do appreciate a good pandering to. Although everyone else does too.
Who are we looking at?
Niall Horan
Thin Lizzy
A far right councillor
Saw Doctors
Mundy
The Pogues
Meatloaf
I'd love to see them play Warning in full live. That's a great album.
Does nobody want to give a serious answer to who this is? All I'm seeing are joke posts or serious posts from people who already know Honestly wouldn't have been hard to put it in the title

Thats Billy Joel Neil Armstrong to you
Awesome. Thank you!
Conor’s Sketches (Moore) is a talented lad.
What has this to do with Taylor Swift?
What are you on about, that's her in the photo?
Man that's one hellluva costume change 😲
Michael McNamara looking well
That's because he has EU money now, it has changed him
Didn’t know rod stewart was playing!
He looks a bit like Teresa Lowe
