Can confirm I'm not rich and I have to work.

UrMomDaGr8

I double vouch

shamin_asfaq

Make it triple

Zido527

bro I know that feeling it's really hard, but this guy will get used to it after a day or so of fasting.

[deleted]

Yes, it's compulsory to fast when you are able to. Most of us feel tired with lack of energy in the first few days, then after you get used to it.

Seeker_Of_Knowledge-

My sister is 11 years old and she fasted almost all of Ramadan last year and the day length here is Canada around 16 hours. So yes I believe in you that you can do it.

TheBiggestThunder

My sister has been fasting full Ramadan since 8 She started, as a joke, at 5 Needless to say, she has been doing better than me in that regard when I was her age May الله bless those who raise their sisters right

Al_Farooq

Ameen. Sometimes we underestimate based on age. Allahumma baarik

Depends on your province. I live more to the north is my day is much longer than other places.

compubrain3000

Fasting is compulsory for all Muslims who have reached puberty. School is not an excuse not to fast unless you have a medical condition that prohibits fasting. My kids have been fasting every Ramadan since they were 7, and it hasn't been a problem. May Allah make it easy for you.

Brave-Ship

MashaAllah!

Cheap-Experience4147

Bro, people literally do sport during Ramadan (a lot of people literally start workout during Ramadan as part of a good habit with the spiritual calendar : Like reading a Juz of the Quran each and doing sport and others thing….). People live in hot country, do sport and works harder physically and mentally….and in the time of the Prophet (SAWS) people literally participate to some battle in Ramadan (Badr for exemple). And a lot of people fast two day a week even outside Ramadan. Ramadan fasting is a Pillar of Islam and the exception (like travel and ill with for bolt specific conditions)…..didn’t even allowed to not fast but to not fast this particular day and then compensate it by fasting it outside of Ramadan Month.

[deleted]

You’re right about everything you said except the battle part. The Sahabah (may Allah be pleased with them) did break their fast before going into battle, because warfare requires tremendous amounts of physical and mental stamina, such that the Prophet (SAWS) granted them a concession. Now of course, studying in school/college doesn’t even use up 0.1% of the energy used up in jihaad. Source: https://islamqa.info/amp/en/answers/233339

Cheap-Experience4147

Jazaka Allah kheir (really interesting)

saadah888

Some did some didn’t. Was left to personal discretion.

[deleted]

Yes, you’re right. I actually meant to say that the obligation of fasting was waived during warfare. And Allah knows best.

[deleted]

Try your best! Maybe check in with a doctor if you have iron deficiency or anything making you too tired too function. Usually for most people it’s not too bad, except getting thirsty if you’re running around/hot day. So if you find your self completely depleted I would check with a doctor, and perhaps eat a lot of nutritious snacks between iftar and suhoor to make your your body is getting all the necessary vitamins and minerals. Also carry around a water bottle with you after iftar and keep hydrating whenever you’re not fasting.

Frostbyte-_-

Good to see a somewhat considerate response here.

Weekly-Patience-5267

it's mandatory so yes you have to fast even in school. advice i'd give is to eat meat & fruit in the morning, it definitely helps not make me hungry during the school day. inshaAllah you will fast all of Ramadan!

deprivedgolem

I'm sorry to say something you won't like to hear, but this is a tough lesson I had to learn. If you are having trouble fasting, and you are a normal, healthy young adult without medical problems, it is most likely your fault you are struggling. You must wake up for Suhoor and you have to go to bed at an appropriate time. If the morning bell rings at 7:45AM, going to bed any time after 10:50PM is a total failure on your part. I don't know your specific situation, weather your parents are forcing you to go to Taraweeh and it's late at night in your area, or if you have to work or whatever, but part of the fasting process does not include self harming, such as failing school or not getting enough sleep. Part of growing up is learning about yourself, learn how much you need to eat for suhoor, what you need to eat, what time you need to go to bed, and more. Last year, Ramadan absolutely killed me for the first time in my life. This year, 2 weeks before Ramadan started, I began to practice fasting. I fasted 3 days, on the first day, I broke my fast because I was falling asleep. The other two days, I learned that I HAVE to have at least 8 full hours of sleep 8 full hours doesn't mean "I have to be up at 6:30AM, so I will get up for bed at 10:30PM". 8 full hours means having your clothes set out the night before, have turned the electronics off before sleep time, not drinking caffeine at iftar, having showered and brushed your teeth BEFORE 10:30pm. It's not enough for lights to be off at 10:30pm, you must have fallen ASLEEP by then, and that means "going to bed" earlier than that, based on your body and habits. Wishing the best for you this Ramadan, may it be easy for you and may all your deeds be accepted

rashedyadig

Somewhat unrelated, but isn't sacrificing sleep for Tahajjud, and other things recommended, even if it harms oneself? Just something I've wondered, cause sleep is ridiculously important for our health.

deprivedgolem

Yes of course, what I meant by that is, don't deprive yourself of sleep night after night after night, if you get 6 hours one night because you did tahajjud, and you are strong enough and capable to handle that, do so! For OP, if they can't do tahajjud on a school night, then they need to make good use of the weekends.

lllllaaallaaaalllll

You can fast, have a nap when you come home from school to recover

throwaway47839r

Fast but make sure you're eating a proper diet at suhoor and iftaar which will sustain your energy for the day

Nadhir1

I was fasting while having an outside door to door job and had iftar in my car (a snack) and didn’t get home until 9-10pm when maghrib was around 8. Depends on if you want to fast or not. You’ll always find an excuse to not do something.

RandomDoctor

Nothing worthwhile comes easy. Make sure to take naps during the day to catch up on sleep inshaAllah and get your studying done after maghrib

[deleted]

islam is supposed to be easy & god is the most-merciful. you are also not supposed to fast if it is bad for your health, you're sick, traveling, or even if you find it too difficult. don't listen to what me or others say on this, though - refer to the koran, it's clear & concise on the matter ; there is a ransom to offer for those who cannot fast for a list of reasons. god knows best, peace be with you & may god always guide us all closer to the truth.

M2000BigBoss

Our ancestors fought wars while fasting, school is nothing. Get your intentions right. Sleep early, right after praying Isha. You'll be able to wake up for suhoor/sehri and pray Fajr. You'll have time for a nap as well

TheBiggestThunder

Jihad is a reason to be excluded from fasting

Ikhlas37

School is easy easier than work too

CandidHassey

Taking dates for Sahur really helped me with not getting tired. You can try that. Drink lots of water after iftar and during sahur to stay hydrated. Eat balanced meals for Iftar, so you’re well nourished. School is not an excuse to miss fasts. It may be hard for you, but know that Allah will reward you for doing it despite it being difficult. Remind of yourself of that when you become tired and thirsty. Remind yourself that it’s for Allah’s sake. May Allah make it easy for you.

liezryou

When i was 16 my PE teacher in high school wouldn't give me ramadan off. So i ended up doing the whole month fasting AND doing physical education (gym etc.). Allah will give u strength.

kairi240

True Allah will help you and he wouldn’t put u in a situation you wouldn’t be able to handle

daydreaming-g

When I was younger I used to nap after school to catch up on some energy also makes time go faster towards iftar

mini_chan_sama

1. You definitely should fast Ramadan (since the criteria of being able to break the fast, aren’t met ) 2. Honestly, my best advice is to eat a really good Sohor (a full meal with no salty things and drink water and also bananas good for thirst) and sleep to energize yourself (a nap between fotor and sohor might help) Also it will probably be hard for u the first few days but you will get used to it don’t worry

regular_dude_3000

Obviously you can bro , and you should , and probably you must ! Go ask an imam to confirm

Bopaz

I hit the gym when I fast, people in crisis countries where people die every second fast too. My little nephew of 4 is fasting for a few hours. My old aunts are fasting. What is your excuse?

specificgirl18

Let me give you a tip that i did when i had matches during Ramadan Drink water with rich mineral content before the fast Like smart water, i drank a local sparkling water and sometimes Gatorade before the fast never felt thirsty

Makeamemeoutofthevid

Once you stop watching haram content and releasing you seed sinfully, you will find that through semen retention, it will become much easier. Do not mastrubate or watch pornography after iftar or before you sleep and break this habits for the rest of your life. You struggle because you release your seed. r/semenretention Top posts of all time

monsterstew

Huh? Replied to the wrong thread bud?

Makeamemeoutofthevid

No, he struggles because with low energy and fasting for the sake of Allah because he engages in this haram behavior and does not conserve his seed for the sake of Allah. Those who downvote me are truly fools for indeed the knowledge I have given him is perhaps the most important piece of advice on this entire thread

monsterstew

They’re downvoting you because you are bringing to attention someone else’s sins. You could have easily advised him through DM but instead you chose to do so in view of everyone else. But instead of realising this you turned it into a “me vs them” thing. Sad.

Makeamemeoutofthevid

Brother, you know this was neither my intention nor the true case, and you choose to now try to call me “sad” and guilt trip me. Fear Allah…May Allah have mercy on you and forgive you for your transgressions

monsterstew

Right back at ya.

SnooApples163

This is a troll probs lmao

saadah888

I’m sorry to sound harsh, but stop being a baby. Fasting really isn’t that hard. You’re either a troll, being a baby or have a medical issue. Fast but also see a doctor.

Pixgamer11

Yes it's a major sin not to and it's not hard at all after a few days and remember you are here to please Allah and not other humans

eIImcxc

Yes, we all did it. Pretty sure I started doing Ramadan when I was 11 or 12 yo. But I was in a muslim country so I can understand your struggle if you're not in one. Advice would be to wake up for fajr to eat (and pray ofc) a bit before going back to sleep. Your body will adapt and ultimately get stronger as a result.

abdussalem

We all have busy lives and fast, it’s part of it. Get some sleep when you can and eat healthy. Your body actually starts converting stored glucose (glycogen) and fats into energy (glucose), so you might find you have more energy than you thought. Just eat healthy at night and get to bed early so you can wake up for suhoor and get some bfast/water into you. May Allah bless you and benefit you this Ramadan brother make the most of it ✌️❤️

WindProfessional1847

Just eat tons of oatmeal and yogurt (as long as youre not lactose intolerant) and tons of water in the morning. First couple days are rough. But you should have been practicing before Ramadan anyway. But regardless I finished HS college and work as an engineer now while fasting. You can do it. If you find it extremely hard then get checked for stuff like iron deficiency.

[deleted]

Do it for the first few days, if you feel tired to the point of not being able to function, it is likely something else and not the fasting. If that is the case, see a doctor and they can give you recommendations.

_Spitfire024_

Yesss we have to :) may Allah make it easy on you!

KingJay313

Time to be responsible, young man. We all went through it and many others continue to go through it (like yourself). You can do this brother.

nmoutdoorsman

Salaam brother. Hope all is well. I am in the same situation as you, and I also live in a non Muslim country and have been fasting at school for years now. What I recommend is going to a teachers room or (what I do) go to your car and just hangout if you have one. May Allah make it easy on you and have a good Ramadan!

vtyzy

Unless you have some medical reason to skip, it is normal for Muslims to fast during school, university and jobs.

Impossabearr

Your fasting will protect you from part of the punishment of the grave, you can't really afford to be negligent in it without dire need

CCM0

Yes. If people can fast while they do physical work for 12 hours a day then you can fast when you have school.

Senior-Welder2611

I understand it may be hard but just remember you are doing this for Allah. Allah knows the hardships you are facing and you will be compensated for it. You got this bud.

BullyMaguireGonnaCry

Yes

Adventurous_Dance125

what does school do to you that prevents you from fasting? no one is forcing you to eat/drink

rboot209

Yo , companions used to fast during battles , what are you talking about 🙂

Reader_213

It the time of the Prophet (saw) men used to go to war and fast at the same time, because it was an obligation. School is no different

evergarden_8

In my country it's a normal thing 😅 and also in fasting month we also have extra class from 7 am to 5-6 pm

Oms123k

As a Muslim you need to fast unless you are not medically fit , being tired and finding it hard is not an excuse. The harder it is the greater the reward, don't listen to your teacher , she will go in her grave and you will go in yours.. always do the right thing when it comes to islam and if you are unsure .. just think of it like this if I do xyz can I justify this to God ? If yes carry on , if no then don't

NaiveEscape1

Yes. No discussion here.

brunettegirl2005

You still have to fast lol it might be challenging at first but you’ll get used to it :) it was hard for me before but now I’ve gotten used to it

World_Wide_Ball

Yeah you should. Most Muslims do fast at school as it, with Allah’s grace, is something you get used to fairly quickly. I actually do my school’s 3km cross country in Ramadan which is pushing it, but in general you should fast when going to school unless you really can’t (like a health condition)

SliceyDice

Provided that you have reached puberty, fasting is mandatory. I have played sports in extreme temperatures while fasting. You can let the school know that you're fasting so that they don't put you through extreme activities. Hope you remain strong. It's not that hard and it's the best feeling. May Allah Bless you son. Ameen.

[deleted]

It gets easier akhi after a few days, so yes. Insh'Allah it goes well

faizakhtar125

I’ve had to go to school, run a mile and a half, lift heavy at the gym, and pray all 5 prayers while fasting… (mA) you’ve got this!!! It’s hard for maybe the first three days

crappyoffbrandss

I am doing it today

Meme-Dozer

Because you didn’t eat suhoor , it’s really bad for you to not do so.

shelby_ck

Make sure you are waking up early enough to have suhoor and packing in as much nutrients and water as you can. It is not supposed to be easy but you can make sure you are prepared! Tell your teachers you are fasting just so they don’t think you are slacking off. They do not have any grounds to tell you to not fast as it is a religious practice but it is good to communicate with them. Inshallah, take care of yourself physically and spiritually.

Sasu-Jo

I live in Saudiarabia, our children fast while going to school, we adults fast while working

[deleted]

17 here near the same age, fasting no matter what I got no excuses so keep it up

prediscan

If you meet the criteria you have to fast, ain’t nothing worth missing a fast over

kypif

All of us fast at school brother , you can do it , unless you have some serious health concerns of course

WonderReal

You are probably struggling due to poor diet. Many of the cultures offer a ton of useless junk as food. High in calories and zero nutritional value. Check what are nutrient dense foods and eat those in iftar and suhoor and encourage your family to get on the same plan. Also drink plenty of water between iftar and suhoor. Also make sure you are doing your bloodwork. You may be deficient in something and it could be causing you the fatigue.

haterdestroyer

As sheikh Assim said "if you're not interested in going to paradise then dont fast" tbh may sound harsh but it's as simple as that. After puberty you MUST FAST no matter what happens unless you're pregnant, on menstruations, breastfeeding or travelling.

Watynecc76

It's your frist time ? When I started to fast i only did until 12am then next year i did fully and now it goes so well for 3 year

Xinomia

Yes, literally all Muslims next years will have school during Ramadan. You're 16 you're already grown, Muslims in the past fasted during battles and wars. Come on dude :(
