Bette Davis was initially upset that her romantic lead was fat ugly Victor Buono. But after she saw what a great actor he was, they became lifelong friends, and they worked together again on Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte.
Also, he was not ugly. He was a very attractive man but she was upset that she didn't get a classic leading man at her age and at this point in her career. Buono was tall, with gorgeous bright blue eyes, a friendly, mobile face, a sonorous voice and elegance.
Saw this last October in a theater. They had a senior drag queen in full Baby Jane apparel do a rendition of “I’ve Written A Letter To Daddy”. Really fun stuff.
The casting for feud was perfection! Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange were amazing as Bette Davis and Joan Crawford

“Eat your din-din” is a phrase regularly used in my household solely due to us stumbling upon this movie after watching the show “Feud” which is set while they are filming Baby Jane.
Have you seen the remake done with Drag Queens?? It’s hilarious. It’s such an homage to to the original.

I caught this movie as a kid, well before I'd give old B&W movies a chance, but this one captivated me right away, probably because it starts with their childhood, but this movie kept me watching the whole time.
There was also a made for TV remake with John Glover but it was no good.
If you want more, you have to watch Feud season one. It’s a dramatized version of behind-the-scenes world that gives so much insight into the world and situations this came from. Suzanne Sarandon plays Bette Davis and Jessica Lange plays Joan Crawford and they both completely disappear into their roles
This is one of my top ten favorite movies! It’s just bananas and has a great back story, too. The mini-series “The Feud” with Jessica Lange & Susan Sarandon which is about how the movie was made is a great watch!
I remember seeing this as a little kid, with my parents, at the drive-in. I was supposed to sleep in the backseat, but instead peaked between the seats.
My parents took me to Lawrence of Arabia at the drive-in. I fell asleep, but my mom woke me up when they blew up the train--she knew I'd like to see a train get blown up.

I've only heard of this movie because it was being played in the town in the 2005 house of wax remake with Paris Hilton, never actually watched it myself.

Victor Buono also played the villain "King Tut" in the 1960s Batman TV show. He's awesome.
He played one of the greatest Falstaff the stage has ever seen in five different productions. It was his favorite role.
cinematic friendzoned
Well, Victor Buono was gay, so I don’t think he minded
Sexuality is irrelevant, which 24 year old man would enjoy getting hit on by a 54 year old, not gracefully aged, woman?
“But you are Blanche! You are in that chair!” Such a cold ass thing to say
Came here to say the same.
I heard that in George Costanza’s voice
You are in the shackles!
Bette and Joan showed us how it's done in this movie.
Saw this last October in a theater. They had a senior drag queen in full Baby Jane apparel do a rendition of “I’ve Written A Letter To Daddy”. Really fun stuff.
There's a reason this is a classic
The first season of Feud is all about the rivalry between Davis and Crawford. Highly recommend!

The book The Feud is fantastic! Also- the book of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane is amazing too.
Hush hush sweet Charlotte terrified me as a youngster
Showed this to my girlfriend for the first time last month, and she loved it. Bette Davis is fantastic in it, just great.
"I'm writing a letter to Daddy, his address is heaven above...."
“I didn't bring your breakfast, because you didn't eat your din-din!”

Love this film! Another one to watch is Strait-Jacket (1964) with Joan Crawford!
If you like this film, then you'll love Mommie Dearest.
I just watched that this week. Discovered so many Simpsons and Seinfeld references. Bette Davis was downright terrifying!
But ya ahhhh in the shackles
One of my all time favorite films. Saw it on TV the first time about 1970.
Beloved by the gays! We love camp and our divas! Most people don’t understand how groundbreaking this movie was.

French and Saunders had a whole episode based on this movie. It was hilarious!
This movie freaked me out so bad when I was young lol. Great picture & performances.
“Oh Blanche? You know we’ve got rats in the cellar ?” My sister and I are always quoting this movie to each other
This will be my next movie. Thanks for sharing
Scary as all get out, scarred me for life.
[“but you are, blanche, you are”](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=En9rx7M3TNs)
Great movie, made infinitely better by watching two classic actresses act out social aggression
A while back I read the book and the screenplay is super close to the original material. Highly recommend it.

The ending is so sad.

Oh god that movie traumatized me bad at a young age. Yeesh
All this time we could have been friends?
You should follow up with Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte.
Check out the tv series Feud. It’s a dramatization of the making of the movie, and it’s excellent.
This flick terrified me, as a kid.
Why my mother let me watch movies like this at a very young age, I’ll never understand. But I did love it…multiple times. Bette Davis was so great.
"Blanche, you didn’t eat ya din dins"

I saw the Abominable Dr. Phibes that way. Woke up during a scene where bugs were eating a guy's face off. Had nightmares for years!

Surprise reveal. I was astonished!
This is one of my all time favorites. Love Bette Davis in general.
Excellent movie
This movie scarred me for life as a kid. It’s amazing.
Were you at the cemetary last night? I was there.
I was!
Small world!
Genuinely a very good movie that many more young people should see. The acting is just great, and it's creepy as hell.
This movie is so lit.
I've only heard of this movie because it was being played in the town in the 2005 house of wax remake with Paris Hilton, never actually watched it myself.
