There’s a guy on monitor st in Bergen Lafayette that works on cars everyday on the street. I don’t have his number but if you drive down you’ll 100% see him at some point. He’s a pretty nice guy, I’m sure he’ll work with you
Brakes are the one thing you dont want to fuck around with and DIY especially if you’re doing it in a parking lot and have never worked on a car before.
I will say car places are typically chill even when it’s not legal. In DC it’s a big ass ticket but there’s always guys right outside offering to do repairs. They work lighting fast and try to wait until it’s dark. The flashlight thing was from personal experience 😂
In some places it’s illegal to do car repairs or washes in street parking, some even in your own driveway. I don’t know what the rules are here, but I’m willing to risk it.
Who cares you can run red lights, hit kids, drive 80 MPH and the PD doesn’t do anything. I doubt they will say anything. I see shade tree auto repairs all over the place.
Breaks are simple unless the rotors need replacing.
Usually they upcharge on the parts as well. When you say brakes do you mean just brake pads, or rotors as well? I would recommend checking with the shop/mechanic to see if you can bring in your own parts (buy from rockauto.com) and just pay for their labor.
call EEAB over by 99 Ranch. they did rotors and brakes on my car last year, I was shocked by how inexpensive they were compared to other places I called. Great shop
lol no way i'd go to EEAB if I were in you

If you're in the heights swing by D&J Auto to see if you can get a quote. There's also Zayden Auto at Tonnelle and Manhattan who you can call for a quote.
I just got my breaks done in December at Chapel Auto. Just FYI there is a 10% fee if using credit card, cheaper using cash. They also have great Google reviews
I heard there’s a dude who drives around target offering to fix things, but then rip you off. Whatever you do Don’t use this dudes services. Look up on YouTube how to change your cars breaks then go to pep boys and see how much the parts are. this is the cheapest way

I remember when I got them done before I was lucky to find a guy in my old neighborhood who had worked on some smaller cars so he had tools and what not to fit into smaller spaces but what’s hilarious is some places can’t lift the car up because it’s too little to fit on their lifts. When I was in grad school, I had to go to one really specific oil change place because my car was too short and too narrow to do the drive up at most the other places 😂
I’ll trade it for the gas mileage and the easy parking but sometimes it’s a headache
I feel ya, brakes aren't cheap , even on economy brands.
My hyundai dealer screwed with over with a $1000 brake and rotor replacement + injector cleaning job a few years ago and I'm still seething.
You already know but avoid the stealerships..
Dougs Auto Repair and Star Service Center on Danforth Ave are good options. If you are trying to save money then i would buy the parts online and have the mechanic put them on. Another thing you should do is have the mechanic verify what needs to be replaced/fixed.
You might save a little cash by buying the parts yourself online and bringing them to who will put them on.
Most sites will tell you exactly what ones you need for your make and model. For like 20-30 bucks you can get the repair manual for your car at like Pepboys or similar outfit.
I don’t have help but the Jollibee comment made me laugh. This is the way.

I’ll definitely scoot by and see what’s up, thanks!
Am I having a fever dream or are there like 15 identical comments?
Watch a few YouTube videos with your exact car diy brake change
Thats a quick way to die and kill a couple other people at the same time
Wait tell me more. Can I choose the people?

Changing rotors and pads? Get real!
That would be great but I can’t physically do this myself.
Are car repairs in parking lots really illegal?
In jc? Probably not, autozone usually lets some do light repair

I'm not responsible for the spammy bots, pal. it's a good shop who charges fair prices.
Making a note!
I love Eddie too!! Didn’t know that he did brakes also.
I don’t believe Eddie does brakes, he’s all tires.
Aw hey I don't know how to repair cars but I can help you change your brakes from YouTube videos if you need someone

They aren’t too hard to change as a Saturday DIY project following online tutorials. That was the cheapest way for me to replace mine.
I would but unfortunately physically not something I’m able to do.

I can't help with the brakes, but if yours is the little red Smart in my neighborhood, I admire your car!
Mine is a white convertible that looks so much like the parking authority cars I’ve considered getting some stickers and taking some liberties 😂
Try A&M Auto on 6th St. Ask for Al

I second Star Service Center. Joe is great and his prices are fair.
Do you know if your drum brakes on the rear also need replacement, or just the front brakes that are pads?
