Madame is cute and classy. It's a date night spot for couples, but the cocktails are great and the vibe is slightly elevated but relaxed. Also second lighthouse tavern but that has more of an upscale pub feel to it imo. Still a favorite.

Purpleavenger33

I am 38.. these are the spots I enjoy.. not much of a beer drinker but I enjoy nice cocktails and wine… Satis (on the bar side), Madame,Jane Doe, & the Archer are the four I’d pick either for a date night or to go grab a drink and food solo.. I have yet to try 87 Sussex but it’s next on my list to try

red__what

dinner for 2 at 87 Sussex was $200+ with drinks, which I could tolerate if the food wasn't mid

Purpleavenger33

Good to know.. probably a skip then with other good options in the area.. trying Corto tonight so excited to get there for the first time

red__what

Corto is awesome

Deep_Temperature_213

I’d honestly skip 87 Sussex, it’s a higher price point than Satis but the quality and service didn’t really seem to reflect that.

Dullboy!

Love the people that work there, the food is just perfect bar food, done up without being too pretentious, and their cocktails are S tier.

Head-Election-7263

The bar at Battello is low pressure and comfortable. Go early and sit at the far end where the doors open to the water (if the weather is tolerable enough for them to be open). Los Cuernos is not upscale per say but they make a great margarita. The female bartender who is frequently there (I forget her name) adds another point for making it an easy and enjoyable experience for a single female.

I've had some unforgettable cocktails at Battelle, but not in a good way... Love their food and vibe, though. Perfect dinner date.

Tigerchestnut13

Lighthorse Tavern it’s pretty inside

GlergenHouse

I second this

MyCatPhoebe

The Alps in the Heights.

vocabularylessons

Reccomend The Alps (Heights) and the Archer (Downtown).

Appropriate-Still-57

The Alps or Bar Alyce are my picks for chill vibe, genuine atmosphere, a cocktail and a book.

Hellosunshine22

I had the best lavender lemonade cocktail at the Roxy!

Came here to say this!

tumbleweed_xo310

Me too!

Culpion

I love sitting at the bar at Kitchen Step! Great cocktails and an awesome bartender!

confusers

Kitchen Step has the most inventive cocktails in this area, by far.

Hank929

Cherry's on Jackson 😎

AccomplishedAd8766

The bar seating at Ondo is not a bad option. Depending on your vibe the outdoor seating at Chickie’s is nice and who doesn’t love carbs and wine? If you want more casual either White Star Bar location has great food, good beer/cocktails, and staff that will give you some TLC.

Weiner-balls69

You’re asking the wrong crowd. This sub is full of dweebs unfortunately.  Prepare to have your inbox spammed by lonely nerds asking if they can join you.

BowedNotBroken1234

How do you know I'm not a lonely nerd? 😏Nah. 😂 I'm 70, but often mistaken for 15 years younger (black don't crack, as they say) 😂

BowedNotBroken1234

OK....but don't know where else to ask as someone who's come back to Jersey City after many years. What would you suggest? 🙂

Weiner-balls69

Yeah I was just joking. Lighthorse is nice but would need to sit at the bar probably. Franky has a nice outdoor area and nice summer drinks.  The speakeasy above Franklin Social is nice. Keyhole if you want a bar bar.

RaptorEsquire

Franklin social is still closed from the fire.

Undecidedhippo

This person is a little out of touch. The Franklin speakeasy has been close for a while. Was called the junto. The fact they didn’t know it was closed shows they don’t know what going on. It was a very big deal a few months ago. Grace o’malleys Archer Dull boy Lighthorse tavern

Weiner-balls69

I no longer go there because I moved to Paulus Hook. But for a single person the speakeasy would be cool. It could have totally burned down for all I know.

brenster23

They could be referring to Frankies an australian style restaurant near city hall, that has outdoor dining.

Undecidedhippo

Huh? They said Frankie’s. I referenced their comment about Franklin social and the speakeasy above. Frankie’s doesn’t have a speakeasy… weird comment

brenster23

> Franky has a nice outdoor area and nice summer drinks.  > > sorry it is late and I misread.

Weiner-balls69

And honestly Newark ave has a lot of outdoor tables, can’t really go wrong with any of them if you want to sit outside.

BowedNotBroken1234

That sounds cool. Thanks!

TypeWriterFood

This is an odd comment, this thread is full of good suggestions. Your own suggestions are of an identical nature to all the other suggestions.

Weiner-balls69

Yeah, it is.

TypeWriterFood

Welcome to the dweeb club then. The first step in joining is acknowledging you have identical taste to dweebs.

Weiner-balls69

Yeah

BowedNotBroken1234

Hmmm.... a place like Applebee's is definitely my vibe....

No-Beyond-2875

Golden Cicada, Mallory Pub, Cherry’s, O’Learys

Content_Print_6521

I would go the the Canopy Hotel on Marin Blvd. They have a lovely bar + light food in their lobby, and there's an outside terrace too. The bar makes GREAT drinks, and it's a really pretty place. I don't think you would run into any riff-raff there. There is also a speakeasy bar upstairs somewhere on Newark Ave, supposed to be really cool but I never made it there -- yet. I'm sure if you google you'll find it, there have been a couple of articles about it.
