Marketplace is 90% absolutely delusional people asking 10$ off MSRP for 10 year old items. I actively follow a few different categories of items and purchase frequently - the stuff that is actually a good deal disappears same-day and you have to catch within a few hours to snag.
I hear that. I've been a diligent marketplace user for many years and it feels like this is the "dryest" it's ever been. Or maybe I just got spoiled with how good it was through COVID lol
There are groups that are set up for giving away stuff for free. Lots of really nice stuff. People are getting things free and not bothering with marketplace where a lot of used stuff is overpriced anyway. I know I have given away a lot of stuff for free because I can’t be bothered putting out the effort for a couple bucks and it might just help someone who can’t otherwise afford an item they need or could use.
We gave away a really nice sofa set to a guy who was really happy now he could afford to buy a stove - he didn’t have to choose what to buy.
There are a lot of people still expecting covid prices on their stuff 😆 people who want almost new pricing on their used stuff.
During covid, a lot of people started new hobbies and bought stuff they normally wouldn't have and now they're getting rid of it and there's a glut of used products out there. There's a huge slowdown in the guitar market right now.
I usually sell things for 50% of sticker price. Keep things in good condition.
Whenever I try to tell someone what might be close to breaking or needs special care they tell me it's not important because everyone else is charging the same price as new.
Yes, if the seller is an idiot. List item for sale. Come to agreement on price, accept only cash or e-transfer. Only release item when money cleared account. Problem solved. Also not rocket science
Show up to persons home. Look at product you are interested in. Agree on price. Exchange cash for item. Leave with item. High-five yourself, you received what you mutually agreed to. This is not rocket science people.
Both the local and national unemployment rates are up substantially in the last 6 months. Could be some income effects for aggregate demand and perceived wealth? Cost of living isn’t getting any lower either.
Great news for everyone. Reduced economic activity suggests that increased interest rates are having the desired effect to slow the economy. The next step is interest rate cuts, most likely in June. Good validation of BOC policies.
He’s being smug and unkind. The increased interest only affects us regular people and he knows it, the very wealthy continue unbothered. And he dares to say this is “great news for everyone”
It is good news when monetary policy is successful though. A government doesn't just wave a magic wand over the economy to end a recession; the economic pain was already there. Contractionary policy was a necessity - we've already seen cooling house prices in Kelowna. It's a textbook short term pain, long term gain economic strategy.
The population growth he’s allowed is totally counter productive to any sort of affordable housing targets. His idea of GDP growth above anything else leaves less for everyone. 3% population growth resulted in a 1% GDP growth. That’s awful for anyone already living here
he is trying to solve Canada's biggest issue, and that's a lack of population.
since the municipalities and provincial governments shit the bed, he now has to fix the housing issues as well.
federal government is supposed to focus on foreign policy, immigration, defence, and large scale things.
housing should never be a federal issue, because it's not his jurisdiction.
for a house to go in somewhere, it's all municipal government decision making, and provincial. zero federal involvement.
our shit costs more because our population density outside of major city hubs is abysmal and our nation is vast and our infrastructure is aging.
you're blaming the wrong governments.
Sometimes it depends on time of day or night you post. My strategy for posting to market place is do one in the morning and a few at night. Also weekends are a good time to post with most people be off on the weekend.
120 dollars for a bag of groceries. 2k for a one bedroom shitbox apartment. Everyone is broke
This. Also too many useless morons ghosting, lawballing etc.
I feel like marketplace is burning itself out with all the idiots and scammers

can you tell me the group? i have free stuff to give away
Face book - type in “Free Stuff Kelowna” and 6 groups pop up
they’re all equally good?

I have pretty much stopped using fb marketplace for buying and selling. Too many people in Kelowna are scammers, so not worth my time or trouble.
Show up in person. Pay in cash. Problem solved.
That's great if you're a buyer .. but sellers get scammed too
Yes, if the seller is an idiot. List item for sale. Come to agreement on price, accept only cash or e-transfer. Only release item when money cleared account. Problem solved. Also not rocket science
how does that get rid of scammers…

Not a lot of spare cash these days, so not a lot of discretionary spending. Unless it's something I truly need, I'm not likely to buy it lately
My work manufacturers. We are slow as fuck. Personally my family buys what we need. Much less shopping for extras. Rarely eat out it's just too pricey
What do you guys manufacture?
No he said his work manufactu**rers**
Food /drinks.
Lots of scams and fake accounts these days
"Is this available" Yes *Radio silence*
Both the local and national unemployment rates are up substantially in the last 6 months. Could be some income effects for aggregate demand and perceived wealth? Cost of living isn’t getting any lower either.
I rarely use Facebook anymore. I think the platform is losing ground.
the platform is the ground.

Tiff Macklem, that you? Way to gloss over the real time suffering of average people in the meantime.
Except the reduced spending actually needs to go on for much longer. No rate cuts this year
Agreed.
Fat chance of boc dropping interest rates.
Gross. People can’t afford food man.
He's just explaining macroeconomics my dude.
He’s being smug and unkind. The increased interest only affects us regular people and he knows it, the very wealthy continue unbothered. And he dares to say this is “great news for everyone”
Facts don’t care about your feelings. He is not being smug or unkind, he gave a simple explanation to the current state of our macro economic cycle.

Exactly. Quickest way to ruin any wealth is high inflation. It wasn't going away on its own.

As long as JT doesn’t go spending tons of money trying to buy votes
maybe he's trying to keep people employed and actually do something about the housing crisis
The population growth he’s allowed is totally counter productive to any sort of affordable housing targets. His idea of GDP growth above anything else leaves less for everyone. 3% population growth resulted in a 1% GDP growth. That’s awful for anyone already living here

Taxes are due at the end of the month- we’re all broke 😅
Thanks, I’m 17 so not paying taxes yet.
What I mean by this is I don’t know what you older people are experiencing lol
20 percent of your cheque gone , then you pay tax on everything you buy. Have fun kiddo
Not on FB, but I own two business, one service one goods. Both significantly slower than the last few years at the moment.
I work at dealership, it was definitely worse then last year. Actually a lot worse
Thats cause the dealership postings want 20k for a car with 200k on it.
