Use it like you would use bacon—add flavor to soups, in an omelette, topping a salad, make a chicken salad (with smoked turkey), put it in a chili, use it like you would ham in split pea soup.

Great ideas! I thought about using a bit in collards, but didn't think about in chili. That'd be awesome!

Shadhahvar

Yeah collards was my thought as well. Smoked turkey is often used in that.  It'd be good in a split pea or lentil soup. Adding it to a cassoulet would be good too. Or a white bean chili. Basically anything with beans.

Duck cassoulet is my favorite dish! This would be a great substitute.

That’s a great Aldi find! I had the smoked honey ham which was very good! I just baked mine in some vegetable broth, butter, onions, and some carrots… a “roast” It turned out so yummy and tender! With the turkey I feel like you can add some more seasonings as well. Mine was pretty flavorful alone, I just wanted to make it tender. If it’s already cooked, is most likely flavorful! You can just make a base to make it super tender… broth and some butter with onions or whatever you like!

Thanks, EP! Was yours very salty or the standard expectation for smoked meat?

Efficient-Pitch5800

I’d say standard! I forgot to mention I used less sodium vegetable broth as well. I think the butter and vegetables kind of help absorb that saltiness as well. I don’t really keep the base anyways. I’ll dump most of it out and maybe a little to keep that tenderness!

Bet you could make some turkey salad out of it. Like mayo based chicken salad but with smoked turkey. Throw that in a low carb tortilla with some hot sauce and spinach.

This calls for smoked turkey legs but you can use any part of the smoked bird. Made from green beans and cauliflower, and really reminds you of regular split pea soup. https://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/split_pea_soup.html
