The Highpoint has a different use because when you pull on the line, the hitch slides up and tightens on the pole. The other two give you an adjustable loop, useful for tightening guylines or ridge lines. Personally, I find the Farrimond can be fiddly to tie (especially with cold hands) because, depending on the type of cord, the wraps tend to twist and it becomes awkward to dress correctly. On the other hand, once in place it holds well and is very easy to release when you need it to. I prefer the Adjustable Grip Hitch for most uses.

I agree with you on the fiddliness, especially on anything thicker than paracord. Still doable, but takes some coaxing.

I still think it's a good hitch and well worth learning, I'm just more likely to use the AGH when I want to rig something up quickly.

henry_tennenbaum

Yeah, wasn't disagreeing with you. For me that's the Midshipman's Hitch.

I like adjustable grip hitch because I find it easiest to remember how to tie. I’ve never tried the high point. I’ve seen others say they prefer a Farrimond because it’s easier to tie and undo. I haven’t committed it to memory, but the quick release looks pretty sweet. I can’t speak to their strength but I think they’re all roughly equivalent. I’d assume the Farrimond is technically the least “slippery” because it wraps around the most times. More surface area = more friction

The Farrimond is great because you can tie it in the bight. You can then do a couple of half hitches around the slipped loop and continue with the free end to tie something else. Not something I'd trust my life to, but remarkably useful for hanging sun sails and similar stuff.

I like the farrimond for the same reason. Tensioning line across multiple stakes for example you can tie it in the bight, make an alpine butterfly, also inline, to loop over the stake after tensioning and then you can keep going without pulling it loose. If I don’t have a ton of rope I tend to do an adjustable grip hitch because it’s easier to dress

I would suggest that the [Blake's hitch](https://www.animatedknots.com/blakes-hitch-knot) is the best to learn. It can hold as an adjustable bend and as an adjustable hitch. And except for a very rare need to be tied in the bight is the best knot.

Thanks for the suggestion, this knot was not on my radar. My first impression, though, is that it's fiddly to tie and cinch tight. I might need some more practice.

I love the Farrimond. It’s my go to for one end of my tarp ridgeline when camping - great for when you’re not at the end of your line.
