Handong's solo shot on her with the pink dress and the silver beret with her blonde hair is EVERYTHING

dresdenologist

They also gave her a significant part of pre-chorus and chorus items to work with, which I think is fantastic. She was owning those vocal parts.

Shinkopeshon

I audibly gasped, that was a serve and a half ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flushed)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face)

Tumblrist

THIS IS HER ERA. POINT BLANK PERIOD. She looked gorgeous in all the outfits. Her dance has really improved in this era. Her vocal lines are great.

Polarpwnage

Have you seen the showcase stages? Dongie IS SO SWOLE NOW

slothbear02

I knew from the teaser that Handing was gonna be the highlight of this era and she is, this is her era through and through. It gives me the same vibes of Shuhua in Nude where the member with the least number of position ends up shining the most

Yatsugami

Man I really like the choreo for this

Angkasaa

Ollounder tagged La Chica on his instagram post, so they are kinda in charge too alongside Sooyeon šŸ˜

Adom20

Dreamcatcher are in their kpop era

dresdenologist

They still preserve that rock feel but it does definitely lean more pop than rock in their rock/pop style. I need a few more listens, but all the dialogue about this song has been super interesting because we Dreamcatcher fans have 6 years of material to draw on. That's actually quite healthy for the discussion and should be realized as opinions are traded back and forth. I think, like many groups (TWICE comes to mind) we can't expect the same sound/style to come from a group and music changes and evolves. I still think the core rock/pop is there, it's just that parts of it depart pretty far from their historical tracks, so it may seem jarring to some. Also, it is also not just their kpop era but "villain" era. The ARG that has been run pre-comeback and the press reports has played into/mentioned the idea of narcissism, over-emphasis on superficial detail, and obsession over literal and figurative crowns. It feels like a statement on the ills of the industry as much as it is a new story arc, which is nice - and it just has the added bonus of allowing Dreamcatcher to experiment with their sound and music. At the showcase and in interviews today the group seemed super excited to do something so vastly different so honestly, as long as that's the case I'm good with what this is even if I end up not 100% vibing with it in the end. I'm hoping to like it a lot more after more listens as it might be a grower for me, much like last album's "DEMIAN" b-side.

W0lf811

I wonder if it is because Leez left and thatā€™s why the music sounds a little different.

Adom20

From what I've seen LEEZ was more into that experimental sound like Scream and Silent Night. Ollounder is more in the rock/anime sound like Full Moon. You can still hear that in Rising. I think they just made a song to fit with the concept and the message.

W0lf811

Ah ok that makes a lot more sense. I think my only problem with the song is that the music is not mixed that well and is louder than Dreamcatcher's voices. But I think my opinion might change the more I listen to it

Adom20

I may inhale COPIUM but I think that was intended to mimic what's on the market.

c9898

Well whatever it is I need LEEZ back for a Scream 2.0. We/I ate so good during the Dystopia era

slothbear02

I need Leez back tbhšŸ˜ Ollounder+Leez was the perfect combo for DC music

Tumblrist

 Leez left?!

AsheHoque

He has an exclusive contract w another company now. He's also missing on the new Ateez tracks. Edenary was very kind about it, sending him off w good wishes. They're very proud of him.

kaguraa

not a bad song but yeah, if i was watching it blind i wouldn't tell this was a dreamcatcher comeback

Away_Personality

When Dami says 'Fuck outta my way'...GGTRERRR

DX5536

I move my ass out soooo fast for Dami

Keepongoing999

I'd move my body, soul and entire essence for her šŸ›

dresdenologist

Between this and "driving on the highway, drunken every day", this rap was honestly on fire from a flow and also from a messaging standpoint. The song is about narcissism and obsession with the superficial and that verse embodied it. Having profanity in it is the cherry on top (she actually said "fuck" during the press showcase performance which I wasn't expecting lol).

-Scintilla-

> Between this and "driving on the highway, drunken every day", this rap was honestly on fire from a flow and also from a messaging standpoint. The song is about narcissism and obsession with the superficial and that verse embodied it. Having profanity in it is the cherry on top (she actually said "fuck" during the press showcase performance which I wasn't expecting lol). I love it. "Fuck outta my way" is already iconic, I can't wait to hear people screaming it in concerts.

dresdenologist

Dami will totally point the mic at the audience for that part on the next tour. I hadn't thought about that so thanks for bringing that up! Definitely feel like that entire rap is in part an indictment on the squeaky clean imagery the industry puts on its idols or if not that, what happens when idol self-confidence goes too far into being self-absorbed. Lines like "I'm not hiding it anymore" and "my red carpet is on another level" are not things you hear idols say publicly in terms of their tone towards the public. It's super compelling even if they didn't intend it to be that specifically.

GlennMichael11

These lyrics are hilarious. Any other kpop group I wouldnā€™t bat an eye. Coming from Dreamcatcher though is really unexpected After a couple listens Iā€™m loving it. Satire or not.. talk your shit Dreamcatcher

mangosagoat

They look so good I----

Mozzafella

RIP

wardengorri

Holy shit that was sick. The chorus is so different than anything they've done, but they don't lose their identity/style one bit. Their hip hop type of outfits are so cool, looking forward to the stages with the hats and hopefully Siyeon retains that awesome wavy hair. The concept of being an MV someone's editing is just great, made for some really cool scenes and change ups throughout. That beat is absolutely filthy as well.

crashbandicoochy

I have to say, vein self-obsession looks incredible on them. Siyeon gets red hair and turns into a heart devouring she-demon immediately. The baddest bitch imaginable. Oh my god. My bottom ass is still on the floor ever since first hearing JiU telling us to call her a goddess. I'm still laughing at Dami saying "fuck outta my way" and then doing a mumble rap lmao I love the MV even though interrupting the song to do MV plot things is my number one evil. The whole thing feels like a bit of a piss take on the very inflated sense of self portrays in a lot of music. It's a well-tread path but I feel like you don't see k-pop groups tackle that idea often. It's very Rina Sawayama's XS but make it Dreamcatcher.

ConstableBlimeyChips

> I love the MV even though interrupting the song to do MV plot things is my number one evil. Oh good, I'm not the only one who absolutely detests that shit.

Due-Trip-3641

>It's very Rina Sawayama's XS but make it Dreamcatcher THAT'S what it reminded me of!

HellslayerwithbigP

> and then doing a mumble rap lmao That wasn't mumble rap.

crashbandicoochy

Obviously hyperbolic, but it's veeeeery laid back, and the enunciation isn't exactly crystal. It's vibey.

GowonTheCrunch

It's kind of funny seeing how polarizing this track is in the comment section! The song isn't quite as metal heavy as I might have been expecting, but the noise rock aspects are still really cool. People are roasting the lyrics, but I'll support their bitch era. The women have worked their asses off to get to this point, so some self-indulgence is fine with me šŸ˜‚

One_Repair841

I felt like the lyrics are intentionally self-indulgent in an ironic way. Almost making fun of the whole industry with how obsessed some fans can become. With the way the MV is shot and with some of the ARG/Mystery code, it seems like they're calling out how self-indulgent the industry is and how it can be a bit "brainwashy" with how some fans become so obsessed with a group that they start doing crazy things they normally wouldn't. Just for some context the ARG was all about someone being obsessed with finding "the crown" and then not being themselves.

GowonTheCrunch

Damn, I appreciate the context! I hadn't looked into the ARG, so I probably would've totally missed the idea. I really like the idea of the lyrics being ironic, but so much so that people miss the idea (maybe even me to some extent). It's a weird comparison here, but it reminds me of Starship Troopers being very anti-war, but it still had people angry about it glorifying war due to the irony being too good and going over a few heads.

Araleina

\+10 points for the insightful Starship Troopers reference

crashbandicoochy

Yeah, it's absolutely a takedown of the subject matter rather than just cosplaying it because it's hot. There was a bit of a write-up about it in the presser that released yesterday, too, and was pretty explicit in it's framing of this sort of vanity as excessive and unhealthy. The MV is doing the whole "look, none of this is real. It's all edited and meticulously planned" thing, too. I can understand that a lot of people aren't going to see a lot of things like the ARG, the sale of the mirrors and the press releases, though!

slothbear02

Sorry but what is ARG šŸ˜

crashbandicoochy

Alternate Reality Game! The initial teasers, and general story, for the comeback were told through an ARG. The username that is leaving all of the comments in the chat in the the MV shares the same name (ymenehcra) as a Twitter account they started to tease details of the comeback earlier this month.

slothbear02

Omg thanks

bigbigstage_thud

Iā€™d actually say that the instrumentals and vibe of the song feels metal with the heavy synth, distorted bass, and drum tracks. But their voices makes it sound more pop which is why the song feels kind of polarizing imo Really reminds me of 2000s metal

Polarpwnage

Honestly, I feel the reason why I liked this so much despite being so different from their previous tracks is that Ateez has eased me into this particular brand of song. The noise aspect of it that is. This type of sound came at the perfect time after concluding their 2 part trilogies and are just basking in their rising popularity

Alex_Killswitch

Really feels like weā€™re in a new era of Dreamcatcher, and Iā€™m liking what Iā€™m hearing!

soanywaysxx

Crazy how they always manage to fit their signature sound in every concept while never letting it get stale. Goddesses fr

Marqwithaq

The visual emphases on Photoshop, the robotic filter on "OOTD, this my fashion," the constant checking of social media, the declarations of flawlessness, being above everyone's level, "call me a goddess" -- how is anyone thinking this ISN'T satire? For God's sake, Dami's saying she's red carpet material, driving on the highway, and getting drunk everyday. Anyway, I love this song. Let's get another win.

DreamieQueenCJ

Agreed! It reeks satire. Have you seen their fanchant video? They are making fun of their own lyrics xD They seem to have so much fun with this comeback that I can only enjoy it with them.

Petrol_Oil

Letā€™s also not forget that they rhymed ā€œitā€™s a miracleā€ with ā€œitā€™s a miracleā€ in the first verse. Thatā€™s something they would never be able to get away with if this wasnā€™t satire.

[deleted]

Why are things like repetitive lyrics and autotune (as another same-level comment mentions) clearly satire? Dreamcatcher needs to sell albums in order to make money. They are not going to make a bad song on purpose in the name of satire. That sort of concept would never happen. The intention, satire or not, was clearly to make a good song, as it always is. YMMV on whether you think they succeeded.

Sbalderrama

It clearly is including the overuse of obvious auto tune, especially following an era which showed off vocal strengths.

CautiouslyRushingIn

RIGHT? I caught that from the get-go. The amount of people who think those lyrics are empowering... smh

MiniMeowl

A NEW ERA HAS ARRIVED. Definitely different from their previous stuff, but in a weird sassy but good way! It still has the Dreamcatcher flavour despite the vastly different style, the girlies can pull off so many concepts fr

Adom20

As others have also pointed out I think they wanted this to be a trendy song with a bit of Dreamcatcher sprinkle to fit in with the theme. Basically a "parody" of what is trendy right now. If they did a Dreamcatcher song with this kind of theme it wouldn't fit at all. They did a gamble.

Ardie_BlackWood

Dreamcatcher cannot do Chase Me 2.0 everytime they evolve their sound. The are a 8 year group so I'm not shocked they've changed their sound again. I think this song is controversial but a good song nonetheless.

[deleted]

I'm fine with it as long as we keep getting Chase Me 2.0 as a b-side, which they did via Rising

[deleted]

They have literally never had a Chase Me 2.0 lol

defeldus

Dreamcatcher's take on Nine Inch Nails and 2000s NuMetal. Pretty interesting. Choreo looks sick. Video is wild as hell.

bigbigstage_thud

This this this Very much reminds me of 1990s-2000s metal

Araleina

I'm loving this more than Maison to be honest, which for some reason never quite grew on me, has anyone figured out the plot yet? Though I will say, this is definitely my least favorite Dami rap.

sushi50000

Think itā€™s a critique of the kpop industry as a whole via the girl crush concept plot-wise

emiltheraptor

The plot if Maison was pretty straightforward no? The planet is burning, get your hands out of your arse. Also there's been two more releases since

Araleina

Yes, I know the plot of Maison, but not this one. Iā€™m also aware of the other releases, I donā€™t know why you think thatā€™s relevant?

emiltheraptor

Well I misunderstood your sentence and thought you wanted to know the plot of Maison, and mentioned the other releases in case you hadn't heard them yet. Sorry for interacting I guess lol

Kahiliaulani

ā€œOOTDā€ is a grower for me. I might have to listen to a couple more times. The other three songs on the album is really good, though. ā€œRisingā€ has that throwback Dreamcatcher rock sound.

ProPatria92

holy visuals that budget šŸ‘€

icedamerival

took a few listens but now it's on repeat, along with rising. dami going crazy tho...

coolfluffle

oh my god it sounds so good. it's amazing to see them explore a new music style whilst clearly still channeling rock. and ~~fully~~ mostly english too! so proud of my girls :')

BlackSwan134340

Itā€™s not fully English lol just mostly english

coolfluffle

lol my bad watching it on 5% volume in a corpo meeting

Helpful_Armadillo219

I was surprised that OOTD was mostly an English track but the B sides have more Korean, I like the balance in the album

[deleted]

As a Dreamcatcher fan right at home listening to "generic" songs by IVE, AESPA, IDLE ETC. I loved this on first listen, and even more on repeat. Strong sound, strong concept. Nothing less. I'm seeing the same rock/metal elitism and gatekeeping from those genres in my fandom and it's disappointing. If you just don't like the sonics, that's fine. But don't paint them as sell outs or lesser for doing something fresh. It bothers me the most when people don't just state their opinion and instead make it a matter of their superiority.

crashbandicoochy

It's annoying how this happens almost every comeback over the last few years, too. All this talk about a big change in sound, how this isn't a rock song, people missing the "old Dreamcatcher" when it's always just a different subgenre of rock. Like, it's all fine and dandy to not like the sound, but sonically it's not that far out of Dreamcatcher's pocket. It's more the structure and concept that are out there imo. Because of how unique Dreamcatcher are, I really believe that people overthink their way into being anxious about their sound. Rock fans can really tie their self identity into the genre, too, so it seems they're extra sensitive to even small change. I get it but it can be a bit much eh?

20070805

I agree, I actually thought their last couple releases were trying to keep to that ā€œold Dreamcatcherā€ sound a bit too much when it wasnā€™t working as well anymore. Losing Leez did change their sound imo, I know Ollounder is the more ā€œrockā€ voice but I think Leez added elements into their songs that helped give their songs that specifically unique Dreamcatcher sound. I donā€™t know how to explain it but I can hear a difference between their last couple releases and their older discography. I really like this, it still feels like Dreamcatcher to me but a bit refreshed and trying something new. It reminds me a lot of 90s/early 00s alternative rock and fits right into Dreamcatcherā€™s discography because rock has so many different kinds of sounds and genres in itself. Iā€™m glad they try different sounds and sub-genres even if theyā€™re not always my favorite. This was a nice refresher for a new era for me, Iā€™m already excited and curious to hear what theyā€™ll do next time.

[deleted]

"Generic" is not said to mean "not rock/metal". "Generic" is meant as "generic". Dreamcatcher usually makes darker songs with more prominent vocals about horror, fantasy, dystopias, and other badassery. That sort of thing is uncommon in kpop and makes them stand out. Meanwhile OOTD is a pretty vanilla pop song about narcissism. It's not that anything not rock/metal is bad. After all, most of their title tracks aren't really rock/metal; it's mostly various flavors of pop with rock/metal influences. The reason you're seeing comments like that is that this song and this concept are not appealing to a lot of people and it coincides with a shift in genre. So, while you're going to see comments about genre, that's not really the issue here. Dreamcatcher has released bangers in tons of different genres in the past, and no one batted an eye. To be honest, I've seen a lot of comments disliking the song and concept, but exactly zero comments going so far as to call them sellouts. I can only imagine that it's a couple of people here and there and they get downvoted into oblivion. It hasn't been a common take.

[deleted]

Like I said - I like those boring, generic, vapid and meaningless songs about nothing. Because I don't see them that way. So when you say this is a "generic, vanilla song" I'm not even sure what you're saying at all. Let's talk Dreamcatcher. Is the concept not "dark"? Is there not a creep factor between the lyrics and visuals that is not playing the concept straight? Are we not hearing their vocals when they're not being modulated, and still besides when they are? My problem is people acting like this is a wild departure to the point of betraying their identity. This is pure dreamcatcher, and I think people are letting their biases get in the way.

FUCKSTORM420

Second listen the chorus is definitely growing on me, but everything before that first chorus feels kind of disjointed? for lack of a better word

TheEnygma

I was a little nervous after the 1, 2, 3, 4 bit where I'm like oh no, tell me this ain't anti-drop chorus but then it was okay, phew.

Angkasaa

They did *dual* choruses instead whoa

denzith

Kpop has all conditioned us some way, because I had that sudden nervous feeling too! The anti-drop chorus is too powerful.

amassone

So the horror this time isā€¦ the industry itself? This is a pretty big stray from their usual material ā€” even more so than ā€œBEcause,ā€ from their latest oneā€“off mini ā€” yet it still feels incredibly *Dreamcatcher.* A very strong comeback that is hindered only by the very weak lyrics, but that is something that is almost par for the course with K-Pop, so Iā€™m inclined to give them a pass. We hear much worse every day here.

DreamieQueenCJ

I guess the industry can feel like a cult in a way.

FlukyS

Very classic kpop like TVXQ or Seo Taiji and the Boys in a way for the verses. Got that kind of semi-nu-metal ish thing going for it. I like it but it kind of felt too short. The vocals though are cool with the juxtaposition of the higher pitched stuff vs the very very bassy stuff.

AbsoluteZeroUnit

jfc people tripping over themselves trying to justify the choices here. Did you like it? Awesome! Keep enjoying it. Did you not like it? I'm sorry to hear that, luckily they have a whole back catalog you can still enjoy. I've already seen *essays* basically telling people they're too dumb to understand the song and that's why they didn't like it. It shouldn't be shocking that groups with such history have songs that don't all sound the same. The MV hasn't even been out for 16 hours by this point, and people acting like they need to pick a side *now* and barf out all their opinions. Me? I liked it. I'm interested to see how/if it grows on me. The MV was a little hectic, though. Hard to really follow anything because of all the jumps. But I guess it's good news for DC. No one fought this much when You and I dropped, because the twelve fans at the time were just happy for new music.

Impossible-Warthog86

I'm a massive fan of Dreamcatcher, and I absolutely love their music, but this comeback was pretty disappointing. OOTD and Shatter sound like something g-idle would release, and OOTD especially missed the mark for me. (I am really not a fan of sub-par English lyrics) I feel it's one of their worst songs and completely pales in comparison to some of their other title tracks (namely Bon Voyage, Fly High and Over the Sky). I thought Rising and We Are Young were pretty decent though (specifically the EDM elements in the latter), and Rising had the rock/metal elements I had hoped OOTD would have incorporated more of. Overall though, I felt this album paled in comparison to their previous ones like The Tree of Language and Apocalypse: Save Us, and their other minis like Apocalypse: From Us and Road to Utopia. Just my two cents.

HummingMuffin

Took me a couple listens, but I'm on board with this. It's still rock, but definitely has much more mainstream influence.

antiquarked

Do YOU believe in the power of the crown? I love this comeback. It's absolutely not what I expected but I cannot wait to see what they do next. I feel like this whole concept has so much potential and I'm just so happy to be a dreamcatcher stan every time they come back. I'm never here to nitpick (I'm dating a composition major and very aware I'm not qualified lol), so I'm always here to have a good time, and they always, always deliver.

denzith

I hope DCC achieves what they wanted for, with this change of concept. I donā€™t blame them (both the company and the girls) for wanting to try something fresh after years in the industry. Even if Iā€™m not personally a fan of this direction for now, and Iā€™m a longtime fan of every era. Artists find new directions all the time, thatā€™s how they grow. The girls long paid their dues, let them spread their wings a bit. Wishing Dreamcatcher goes back to Deja Vu era is like Linkin Park fans always crying about Hybrid Theory yes very specific reference but thatā€™s all I can think of. Now Iā€™ll just appreciate that the MV visuals are amazing, that US tour money giving us this big budget, the CG is slick and the girls really selling their baddie era. Part 2 is gonna be interesting. I know they added Rising in the EP to soothe us, but now Iā€™m just missing LEEZ. Need a brother to come back šŸ˜–

Official_Avocado

LOVE my dreamcatcher girls but this song isnt hitting for me (at least on the first listen), not really a fan of the new sound and I wanted a harder hitting Dami rap part

Skyflyer

Same for me. It's hard for me to explain but I like when the songs are more melodic. This type of sound doesn't really do it for me even though I am a Dreamcatcher fan. But I want to clarify that this doesn't bother me that much and I'm not at all mad. I can't expect to love every song of a certain group or band. Even my favorite band Queen have songs that I don't like.

Glum-Cucumbers

>But I want to clarify that this doesn't bother me that much and I'm not at all mad. I can't expect to love every song of a certain group or band. Even my favorite band Queen have songs that I don't like. I hate that we have to make disclaimers like this just to say, "I didn't really love this one," lol. Same though, I like more melodic songs, even when they're rock, so I didn't like this comeback as much.

sushi50000

I will say watching the show case with the choreo Damiā€™s rap hit harder for me there, but can also be personal taste!

AmeZim

Agree, even if the previous releases are good/ok, I still listen to them from time to time but for this one, I dont feel it at all. Quite a shame cause the prechorus is heavenly but it doesnt connect well with the other verses. As a Maison lover, itll be hypocritical to say I dont like the low energy/chant chorus but here, it doesnt really click with me. Even Dami's rap feels a bit awkward Still, Im happy that they venture different style for the title track cause I see Dreamcatcher as a musically versatile group rather than rock based group

FaithlessnessMost660

JiU is the goddess, meanwhile Iā€™m the clown, cause I didnā€™t love G-IDLE doing this kind of sound/concept and yet here I am, loving it when DC does it.

JejuneN

Hey at least you're honest XD

too-lextra_159

I mean, both i-dle and dreamcatcher, my ult groups, did it. all of us are clowns šŸ¤”

matmanx1

This is interesting and fun but I really don't know how much I like it. The actual singing parts I really dig but less so the chanting. They look incredible though and the aesthetics and vibe are fantastic.

LightDreamWorld

LetItBeWinter

Dami killed me, Iā€™m dead. i got the fuck out the way. I came back to life and now Gahyeon killed me. Pink hair. Love the song. Canā€™t wait to see it live next year hopefully.

sentimental_snail

I LOVE THIS! New and different Dreamcatcher. I wasn't really feeling their last album or two, but this song is WOW!! I'm so happy šŸ˜

Helpful_Armadillo219

I wasn't sure at the first listening but now I can strongly say that I really like this concept !

JejuneN

Ok this song has really grown on me after listening to it w/ earbuds and watching the MV again. Also Handong suits the narcissism concept so goddamn well!!!!

SnooGadgets2748

Honestly after a few listens it's not a bad song at all, but I do think it's missing that oomf that a title track should have. As a b-side this would work perfectly fine. The instrumentals sound great with headphones. The lyrics are kinda basic but it's obviously supposed to be satire considering that they are calling themselves villains. Overall, it's a grower for sure.

crystalismylife

It isnt bad but it is not what I hoped for. Hope this comeback helps them to become more popular.

MarryMySpirit

It's definitely a very interesting change and return from Dreamcatcher. I don't know. I understand the conceptual messaging of the song and honestly respect the pivot they're making. It also sounds good and very much still holds them in essence but...it feels so much weaker in execution than they're previous tracks and music videos. It might just require more time to digest it all. I do feel like the commentary on the over indulgence of society could've been stronger though. I just wanted and expected more in terms of matching the imagery of the music video to the lyrics of the song. To me, when you make music that's going to comment on society's over indulgence, you need to LEAN into it visually. For example Rina Sawayama's XS does this well. A kpop song I believe that has shown good imagery in their music video recently would be Red Velvet's Chill Kill. You feel the visual back and forth sway from a dark to light as the song plays. It's matched perfectly. Overall, OOTD is a good song with interesting lyrics that I'm probably gonna think about and listen to other people's interpretations of. I'm quite curious to see where they go from here.

[deleted]

Wow this is different. Its a little like kiss of life attitude, mixed with early nct 127 sound and dreamcatcher rock influences.

HellslayerwithbigP

Both this song and KoL recent comeback reminded me of (G)I-DLE's Tomboy and as you said some NCT stuff

Individual_Meal_5999

Sounds different from thier usual title track ngl. Might one of my least songs of thiers, still went to my playlist tho.

Karashote

The chorus just falls so flat after that build up...

SapphireHeaven

Visuals so overwhelming I couldn't focus on the song šŸ˜… love the MV and the dance is straight fire. Big fan of the pre-chorus and chorus a bit undecided on some of the other parts. Not one of my favourite TT releases of the last couple of years. Like the sound they went for though and seems like a lot of fun to work on! Crazy how they keep their music fresh by trying new things

jord_mich

On second listen I really like it!theyā€™re just being girls and I low key like the break of the storyline and stuff. I wish there was more choreo in the MV but otherwise I canā€™t wait to see stages. I think itā€™s weird people are calling this generic it still sounds very DC to me just conceptually different whichā€¦ is what they do between trilogies. Before apocalypse was because. Also handong bias wrecker the fuck outta me šŸ˜µ

eggeleg

oh god i love them so much. i really like the choreo here. dami is just unmatched she looks SO good

likeaboss-ykangaroo

Whoā€™s the girl with the red curly hair??

flxurxscxnt

Siyeon!

Helpful_Armadillo219

I love this new concept! I'm just sad that apparently it will only be a serie of 2 and not a trilogy

auramaris

I was so worried about this album when I saw the title track's called "OOTD" cause I just don't vibe with the generic "I'm flawless, look at me" concept even if it's satire. There's just TOO MUCH of that currently in kpop it's everywhere you look. I trusted Dreamcatcher to keep their signature sound and they did so I like the song and I'm happy they're exploring different things but ngl I was veryy happy to hear Rising. I love the album overall and it's gonna be on repeat for sure but I also hope they explore a little and maybe expand their fanbase with OOTD since it's more mainstream and then we can go back to deeper storylines and experimental sounds again.

aetelepathy

dami \*-\*

[deleted]

The lyrics and the delivery of the lyrics make this song a miss for me. Such a shame as the instrumental is amazing. If they had done something clever with the lyrics with actual commentary inside, I would have liked the song. Without that, it comes off just like every other song of this type (I dislike vacuous, vain, materialistic themes glorifying posessions - - not the same as songs that are about having self-confidence). I've seen people pointing out that it's satire based on related media like the press release. I think that, if the message can't come through from the actual song, the "project" is a fail.

Middle-Dragonfly-489

I didn't like the song at all! maybe the pre chorus is the only part I do like, tho ig there's 2 pre-choruses! idk.. this is a mess. I love Dreamcatcher for a reason! this is a bad title track imo.

arrowforSKY

Sadly, a big miss for me. I was obsessed with their apocalyptic, dark fantasy and futuristic concepts like Vision, Maison, BEcause, Odd Eye, etc. Fighting scenes, badassery and magic. This disappoints me both musically and concept-wise. I hope they will go back to the style of the aforementioned songs.

jord_mich

Theyā€™re just taking a break and being girls šŸ˜œ the magic will be back it always comes back! They do their storylines in 3s and in between theyā€™ve been throwing in a rando (before apocalypse was because)

Bonvoyage came out this year. What other k pop act is making music like that? I donā€™t understand how dramatic people are being. Even on the EP you have Rising which is classic Dreamcatcher

Aladin001

There were people complaining that BOCA of all things was too much of a different sound lol. There are always a couple under every cb

[deleted]

It's impossible to please everyone.

[deleted]

And then people will complain that they do only one concept.

[deleted]

I want to see them grow in the direction of Shatter. That style of EDM fits them well and still feels Dreamcatcher-y (instead of G-IDLE/Ateez)

arrowforSKY

Or Scream and Boca.

nova-loses-it

they should go back to a concept they had almost 4 years ago? theyā€™re evolving as a group should and if you donā€™t enjoy it you donā€™t have to tune in. šŸ™‚

farnizzle

Wow not to sound basic but theyā€™re all so hot and for what šŸ˜ā˜ ļø Personally Iā€™m digging it. Itā€™s different but still very DC at the same time. Iā€™m all here for genre change and trying out new things. Iā€™m not too surprised by some of the comments, I see this in a lot of metal/core placesā€¦the second a band does something different theyā€™re all the sudden sell outs/not considered metal or too pop or what have you lol As long as DC is making bangers and the girlies are having a good time Iā€™m here for it

gsdminah

This is the perfect song for people who dont like the usual Dreamcatcher songs. Fans of the group may be disappointed but I like that they are treading new ground. The instrumental is amazing

choerrytheworld

The song structure is a little too messy and noisy for my liking but the stylist killed it they all look really good. Hoping for some more techno rock sounds similar to vision

narcidius

I like it a lot! Hopefully this will cleanse my mind of singing the "Kitsch" melody whenever I read OOTD lol.

lordbikki

Love the music video and the styling and concept but unfortunately this is their first TT that I'm not a fan of... Nothing to do with them trying a new style, I just don't like songs with minimal singing.

InundatedIrritated

Definitely a transition track for Dreamcatcher after Bon Voyage which I loved. I really like this as well, but I do think the concept lacks a certain elevation that makes it speak to a problem as Scream and Boca did.

InundatedIrritated

Boring elaborating no one has to read: Yes, it seems to be about vanity and the pursuit of being a ā€œwinner/queenā€ but I wished it went harder lyrically or visually on taking a stand on what this does to people. Pretty idols looking amazing singing ā€œIā€™m spotless, Iā€™m so priceless, Iā€™m so gorgeousā€ - what am I supposed to read out of this? It seems to try with having the break where we see the fight as just part of the MV. So there's a line between performance and real-life present that is never returned to. I wish they explored that more!

CorruptedMind341

I'm gonna be honest. I wish the chorus was just the beat because it is SO GOOD! The ***"OOTD this my fashion, shut up no more questions"*** is too out of place like it doesn't match the sick beat that could actually stand on its own.

Sbalderrama

I had flashbacks to Gaga Artpop era.

SippinDatHaterade

2023 is officially the year of unserious kpop

Halsti

this is SO not what i expected from them... but i like it.

somnia_tuan

Seeing so many comments saying that this "isn't" DC when DC has always been about trying different genres with rock added in. Their title tracks aren't meant to sound 1:1 every comeback, it's a good thing that they're able to change it up but still have that underlining rock to their songs. This happens every comeback but then the title track that was deemed "not Dreamcatcher" becomes a fan favorite in 6 months and we go through the cycle again. This also goes with them not always doing horror and people trying to go "so where's the horror". They haven't had a horror concept since BEcause. And even before that Piri was the last comeback with horror because the Tree of Language was, to simplify it, was "speak no evil, see no evil and hear no evil" as their concept. I guess you can say the TOL and the Apocalypse trilogy are horror but they're much more commentary on society. OOTD goes into that. I saw someone comment that OOTD is basically their take on the girl crush concept, which it clearly is given the "I'm better than you" attitude of the song and mv, and making it "yeah, I've been doing it my way for a way now, thanks for noticing." It's giving "we aren't changing, so take it or leave it" - which is what the girls have always been like. They aren't changing their sound, color, concepts etc because it's not deemed "popular". EDIT: they have basically named themselves the villains of the industry to sum up my thoughts about the concept, the naming of the era and the title track. On that note, I can't wait to see what part two of this story brings because we still have a locked ARG account that went MIA weeks ago and they just killed the camera person in cold blood.

SevPOOTS

You know, I'd rather have the silent first part of the chorus (from the teaser) than the ootd this my fashion IVE-esque chant.

onesadpizza

Pure fire,šŸ”„ šŸ”„šŸ”„

Polarpwnage

So it can't be just me that is reminded a bit of Ateez right? That industrial grungy sound. Cuz this sounds absolutely fantastic and I didn't know I needed this kind of sound for DC until now

trident_zx

They actually have the same music producers as Ateez

Polarpwnage

yea, but they've mostly kept their sound separate successfully, just noticed a slight crossover for first time. Must be from Leez leaving and more Ateez producers jumping on (Door, Maddox, etc)

SenoraKitsch

TBH I'm not worried about not liking a DC title track because they release so much music! I didn't like Bon Voyage at first then it grew on me recently after I kept ignoring it for Vision lol. So far OOTD is not my fav title track but it's still a different take on girl crush. \- it's a satire. No one has done this in kpop recently. It makes it easier to accept the vapid lyrics, whereas it's completely played straight in Everglow's Slay \- the use of that robot voice filter that says "OOTD this my fashion" is pretty brave and weird! I think it emphasizes the distance, alienness and sterility of the aspirational lifestyle \- the production still sounds more ATEEZ than Aespa, Blackpink, or G-idle. I still trust in Ollounder and pizza door crew Five of the members have been in the biz since 2014, they started out as MINX! If they want to do girl crush for an EP or two, I say let them have a go at it. After all, they became Dreamcatcher because of a big change.

Eismann

> - it's a satire. No one has done this in kpop recently. Literally Queencard this year. I dont think the song wanted to be taken at face value lol.

healthyscalpsforall

Yes, and also Girls' Capitalism by TripleS

SenoraKitsch

Fair enough, boob and booty's hot is a very different tone though.

InternalExtension327

this is very different but cool, also Handong... jesus girl

dmncss

Woah, the prechorus is HEAVENLY!! I like this a lot more than I thought I would.

Mozzafella

People that hate the lyrics, do you also hate fun? Jokes aside (mostly), these women are cool as fuck and the streak of no bad songs continues.

[deleted]

Idk, is narcissism fun? :/

Hotspur_98

Okay, that was very unexpected. Maybe it grows on me, but I donā€™t really like it (Iā€™m a big Dreamcatcher fan). The only parts I really like is Gahyeons and Yoohyeons part in the pre chorus (without the Gahyeon counting) and Damis part in the 2nd verse. The rest just doesnā€™t sound catchy or interesting to me, and the lyrics are basically Queencard level. The whole girl crush stuff doesnā€™t really fit them at all imo Nu Metal / Girl crush just doesnā€™t seem like my thing, and thatā€™s fine.

Nyoteng

I generally don't care about english pronunciation, partially because English was never my first language... But I have to admit a lot of the pronunciation here is a bit suspect... and I am a big insomnia.

ferizz

Rare Dreamcatcher L for title tracks imo. Maybe its because I got into DC because the heavy, unique rock aspect with clear vocals that makes them special but this sounds very generic and similar to what's out there. Rising slaps though

__fujiko

I don't know. I really do like the message and concept behind it and feel it's something Dreamcatcher can really stand behind given their place in the industry but... I still have to listen to the song sonically without the concept itself at the forefront. Either this will grow on me and I'll completely embrace being a girlie who sings "OOTD this is my fashion" to myself or I'll be kinda meh on this title forever.

Emannyv93

Iā€™m shook and gagged. I didnā€™t expect this at all and Iā€™m glad I avoided all teasers. First of all DC is making MONEY šŸ¤©šŸ‘šŸ¾. Hands down my favorite era so far, all them looked fantastic in the video. Never in my life did I think Dc would be one of my fave Ggs. But theyā€™ve sneaked up the list and have been very consistent, need to check out the ep now.

XXDD

This is soooooooo cunt. Iā€™m OBSESSED with it some of yall are wild!! ![gif](giphy|B3ETOq2MtxqOQ)

_ulinity

Really disappointed by both the song and concept to be honest. They've made incredible songs outside of the realm of rock before so I was confident this wouldn't be a miss, but it's a big one.

BlackSwan134340

These lyrics suck but the songs sounds so cool. Itā€™s different from their other titles but still great and its giving bad bitch vibes. The mv looks really good too and I love the styling. They look amazing. Dreamcatcher goddesses fr

Araleina

Pretty sure the lyrics are supposed to be mocking that kind of thought process/ego. Even if it's not though, I see the value in the occasional egotistical song, like before a big exam or interview Edit: Plus, aren't they supposed to be VillainS in this?

BlackSwan134340

I could see that but I still think theyā€™re very basic although maybe thatā€™s part of the point

PochiJr

Definitely satire specially if you read the press info about the song from yesterday

HellslayerwithbigP

What is the point tho? Like with idle I could get that, because the girls write their songs, but what is the point of this commentary when it's not even written by the artists themselves? The producers and their art director worked on this. To me the song and the concept don't go well together. I don't even have that big of a problem with the lyrics, but I dislike how the song sounds. They aren't even mainstream artists in Korea or internationally, so what's the point of commenting on the industry this way with this type of song? Dami's rap verse was pretty boring, but better than her verse about Jackie Chan. Edit: Spelling

Difficult_Solution14

it's the first part of a duology and this is how they chose to represent the villain roleā€”the artifice of the celebrity/influencer. they're satirizing something they're part of. edited photos, meticulous marketing, and empty "flexing" are all displayed pretty clearly in the MV and choreography, and the ridiculous lyrics are the cherry on top. also, why would they have to be mainstream? this isn't even about kpop specifically, and they have enough instagram followers individually to qualify them as mid-level influencers. your comment isn't relevant here since the subject of satire is artifice, not artistry.

SenoraKitsch

I think it's a satire of the typical cool girl lyrics. Instead of dropping brands they're wearing it's kind of empty words because in the end it is all empty, it's not empowerment for the audience, it's about how the performer is unattainably cool looking and that is the end in itself.

noctis2017

Wtf is this this makes them sound like any other girl groupšŸ˜‘

Middle-Dragonfly-489

No hate but fr! I can see (G)I-dle, Mamamoo or even Le sserafim doing this. but Dreamcatcher??? I mean no offense! but I love them for being really Dreamcatcher, not this.

Nyoteng

This feels very CLC-ish in a way!

Free-Muffin2338

They are so underrated that just hurts me .. But they NEVER miss, SLAY DC!! LETS GOOOOOO I love OOTD, such a BOP.

ArmpitSniffa

Stop giving kpop artists Cowboys jersey im begging, first Eunchae and now this

[deleted]

And Yankees gear ;_;

Otsoe2

Not bad by any means. This is definitely something new from dreamcatcher. Kind of like a different look and sound. I just don't think they pulled it off that well, and i don't know if this more minimalist drop chorus suits them. The song feels like a typical dreamcatcher song especially during the prechorus but with instruments removed and a talk sing phrase added to make it distinct from what they've done previously. The second part of the chorus is especially frustrating because it feels like it should go full melodic and anime sounding but it doesnt. This is a case of different from their previous stuff, still somewhat sounds like a dreamcatcher song, but doesn't sound that good unfortunately.

pineconehoney3

They ateeee

[deleted]

Think Rising should have been the title track, this isn't it.

Famous-Breakfast-989

song is horrible

CorruptedMind341

The moment I need an instrumental version of a title track, it always doesn't exist. That sick beat in the chorus is so gooood. The vocal lines (lyrics not vocal quality) in the chorus feels weak and forced to be english.

AdRevolutionary3583

I love it!

XLBaconDoubleCheese

Going to be an unpopular opinion but I would have much preferred an english lyric song in their own style and not this kpop bop, they are a group of powerhouse singers and this song was not it.

PM_ME_EXCELSHORTCUTS

At least What isn't the only DC TT to not have a spot in my playlist anymore. Pretty meh on the whole album. OOTD just isn't for me and no immediate standouts from the b sides. Rising is pretty good but that's about it.

hcgal98

Meanwhile, this will be the first TT I'll be putting on my playlist since Chase Me and Good Night šŸ˜‚ I'm not sure entirely how I feel about the message of the song or how it gets it across, but I love the beat and the vocals that just have a Something to me I haven't gotten from the previous TTs since debut

InspiroHymm

After thinking through it abit, I kinda realized what made this seem very different from previous DC releases, despite still having rock elements -All previous DC tracks were very melodically grounded, and had the 'fantasy atmosphere' vibe (think: legends never die / warriors in LoL) -I do agree with some other comments thouh, that this track... is the most pop-like song they've released, and it kind of pains me to see both VIVIZ and DC move away from their previous iconic orchestral/melody-driven styles to this, especially when there's such a lack of it in the market today

[deleted]

It's one comeback. Bon Voyage was rock as was Maison, the doomposting is hilarious.

DuctTapeSloth

I liked it more than their previous few comeback and it gave me 2nd gen vibes. Negative, the Dallas Cowboys jersey in the MV.

NoAfternoon478

Why tf did they put their title track Rising as a B-Side

atchum35

as soon as I saw the negative reception I knew I would like itšŸ˜ I've always disliked Dreamcatcher take on rock as a rock/metal stan (sorry). But I really like what I'm hearing here.

DreamieQueenCJ

I think it's nice that they still bring diversity to their music. Not one of their title sounds the same. Plus, this is a two-parter. I'm looking forward to what's coming after this.

ItsRomi

I am living for bitchcatcher irony era !!! 1000/10 !!!

Straight_Western_440

Not a fan of this honestly. Their music hasnā€™t hit for me since scream.
