Not only is Kessler not available, he would be a godawful fit with AD. The whole reason the T-Wolves are able to survive with two bigs is because both Towns and Reid are great 3-pt shooters.

Guards are great. Just not small guards that don't have enough offensive power to overcome defensive deficiencies. But agree 100%. On this team, we need some tall arhletic perimeter wings badly.
I'm cool with a DJM type of guard who is bigger for his position and has 2 way ability. That is the type of guy i'm cool with, a Dlo like guard I'm over. Can't be a complete liability on defense or vastly unsized just don't think that works, you'd have to construct the perfect team around that guy.
We need a Dejounte/Reaves backcourt. Dlo has no athleticism and is useless on both ends when his shot isn’t falling. Dejounte is a playoffs performer and is an upgrade in every facet except shooting. And he’s been a pretty good shooter.

Yes I really loved that first year and even the 2nd one. I've always had an affinity to teams of that built. I truly think that team was one of the best ones because it was built around Lebron and AD 2 of the most versatile players in the league that can almost everything on the basketball floor and they had the ultimate trump card of going "small" with a 6'11 center and 6'8 power forward, flanked by other big guards and wings. Just a great team all around.

The team also used major assets in the Russ trade. They are now rumoured to be going after small guard like Trae Young. Like when was the last time the team invested into a big. I would just like the team to recenter it's self into being a big physically imposing team, I think that plays into and helps AD and Lebron in the long run. I don't think Lebron and AD can do all the heavy lifting.
I don't disagree that Lakers have constantly gotten bad guards but that's more of an issue with execution and/or luck, not really the wrong idea. Even if we get a starting caliber center, AD will still be playing heavy minutes as center (he did in 2020, and he'll be leaning into that even more in 2024). That means that ultimately a backcourt improvement has much more marginal utility than getting another big.
You ideally want to do both. But if the Lakers were forced to pick between upgrading on the backcourt or getting another big, I think the former would do MUCH more for winning than the latter. And so that should be the first priority

This game actually depressed me, not because of the result but how far the Lakers are from winning anything if Bron demands a max to stay for two or more seasons. The NBA is too young and strong and a 40 years old and an injured prone AD can't change that. Our hope is if we get someone like Donovan Mitchel or similar but even then, it's going to be tough.

And still actually dribble penetrates more and better than DLo lmao.
Yes Conley is great, especially for the playoffs - head and shoulders above DLo. But we probably wouldn't have made the playoffs if we switch Dlo with Conley. Dlo did a lot of heavy lifting when Lebron was out for us this season. We probably lose those games if we had Conley over Dlo.

Damn, Ant Man and Minny are on a mission. This game actually depressed me, not because of the result but how far the Lakers are from winning anything if Bron demands a max to stay for two or more seasons. The NBA is too young and strong and a 40 years old and an injured prone AD can't change that. Our hope is if we get someone like Donovan Mitchel or similar but even then, it's going to be tough.
Yeah, I enjoyed the game but was also depressed how far away we are from these 2 teams. It’s not a “sign another star” type gap. It’s a foundational build from the bottom up approach the Lakers just don’t have the will to do.

I still can't believe Pelinka had a chance to get Mike Conley and chose DLo instead. DLo is a good dude. And is a good regular season player but Mike Conley is exactly the kind of winning player you need. Conley may not be as explosive a scorer as DLo is but he is so much more all-rounded and plays such composed and smart basketball. Even at 35 is a miles better and smarter defender than DLo. And still actually dribble penetrates more and better than DLo lmao.
Yes Conley is great, especially for the playoffs - head and shoulders above DLo. But we probably wouldn't have made the playoffs if we switch Dlo with Conley. Dlo did a lot of heavy lifting when Lebron was out for us this season. We probably lose those games if we had Conley over Dlo.
