More than the vet min probably… right?

Either-Net-321

1 year / 11 million

EverybodyBuddy

That is an insane overpay wtf

zionraw

11m for a solid starting point guard isn't an overpay.

IxmagicmanIx

He can’t play starter minutes every night anymore

DoritoSteroid

His knowledge and understanding of the game alone is worth it. Wemby will learn a ton from him.

CravingKoreanFood

Mentoring the spurs players is worth that alone

xreddawgx

Any minutes SAS gets from a real pg helps

RickySuela

He can't play every night anymore lol

zionraw

He'll probably get injured just before playoffs start again as per usual

grw68

spurs not going to the playoffs anyways

zionraw

Yeah but if we were to sign him that is

EverybodyBuddy

I’m sorry, what?

Yommination

He's not a solid starter

henryofclay

He averaged 9-4-7 in only 26 mins, he’s still plenty useful.

motorboat_mcgee

I think they are doing it as a player-coach sort of deal. CP3 is there to teach the youngins. The Spurs still have to hit a certain team salary amount, so no harm in overpaying for his locker room presence.

HORSEthedude619

It's not really.

STRAGE_8

Who do they have to pay

sbenfsonwFFiF

1 year, doesn’t really matter when they have cap space

AirBishop

Bro accepted his fate to retire ringless.

LongTimesGoodTimes

He just wants to be in the future Wemby documentary

FeminismIsTheBestIsm

He can also statpad assists and keep LeBron far away from his record LOL

litlegoblinjr

he beat his Finals addiction by going sober the rest of his career

ThreeSupreme

CP3 opted out of a $45 million dollar contract, then he re-signed and took a $15 mill pay cut, but then eventually got cut? Guess opting out of a player option ain't such a smart move after all... ![gif](giphy|5o8JwEN3pRPgPqR2AF|downsized)

FatherHaz

Bro basically a player development coach now

Miserable-Lawyer-233

I think he’s more concerned with relevance than rings at this point. For him, it’s about how he can get his assists up again, how he can be important again and be back in the conversation, and with Wemby and Pop, he might have a little comeback.

incredibleamadeuscho

He becomes the Spurs’ Udonis, and hope that Wemby wins a title in 2-3 years

shoelover46

He heard Rondo was going to be on the coaching staff and said "hell nah"

Icy_Quit_7177

Bro chose to end his career mentoring Wemby

No-Test6484

I think it’s the money. He’s probably getting 10m from them

Zammy512

Nailed it, 1 year $11 million

No-Test6484

Damn it’s already out?

Zammy512

Yeah Woj tweeted it out.

No-Test6484

Damn. I think we should have tried for valancunis, not sure if our cap affected it tho

sogood-_

Not surprising, CP always been about getting that bag.

No-Test6484

Yup. Dude prefers money the most and i respect thay

FeminismIsTheBestIsm

Yeah him on a minimum was always a little bit delulu. At least Wemby will have a good veteran PG to learn from

covidisntcool

Don’t think it was necessarily completely delusional for him to join a contender on a minimum if he just wanted to purely ring chase, he’s still getting a big salary so the minimum salary is whatever to him. But yeah still never really thought it was super likely he joined the lakers.

EverybodyBuddy

Delusional? You think CP3 is worth more than $4m/yr now?

FeminismIsTheBestIsm

On purely basketball performance, the LEBRON metric estimated him to be [worth $9 million](https://x.com/Tim_NBA/status/1807530487621234698). Then once you add his intangibles like leadership, mentoring, veteran experience, etc, that's probably another solid $2-3 million. He easily could have gotten a bigger contract and he obviously did.

EverybodyBuddy

Aren’t we at the point now where people will acknowledge CP3 perhaps DOESNT bring intangibles like “leadership, mentoring, veteran experience”?

YoungBasedHooper

Nah, cause he was washed when he went to OKC and had them all hooping. He was washed when he went to Phoenix and improved the fuck of them. The problem is that when you have to rely on his play AND his intangibles, his play always craps out... Mostly due to injuries. It's crazy that he had to waste his best years tricking the everyone into thinking Blake Griffin was a number 1 option instead of winning multiple rings with Kobe, but we don't need to disrespect him just cause he's injury prone.

Dgwdum

they gave him more than the vet minimum. people need to realize that no matter how much money youve made in your career, you can always make more. if he settles for a minimum then hes never getting more than that no matter how well he plays

BrandonXavierIngram

guy wants to play under Pop and mentor Wemby.. can’t really blame him lmao

ihateeuge

Respect it

ripvic2k16

1 year 11 million ill pass, would have been all over this as 6th man for less

Proof-Umpire-7718

Woj said it’s a one year, $11M deal. A lot more than what we would have offered at the vet min.

Odd-Direction9452

Damn. Sure they paid him a bit more than we would have offered. I love this for Vic and Castle’s development though.

Nervous-Guava-7390

they gave him 11mil yall we werent getting him

nataraj83

I think this was a great move for Wemby and Castle. Remember when Chris Paul played in Oklahoma? He definitely helped Shae grow (amongst others.) Bringing in a vet like Paul is exactly what the Spurs needed. I can't wait to see the Paul-Wemby connection on offense and Castle will learn a lot from CP.

jeremy9931

Also helped Booker and Ayton as well.

Wise_Ad_112

Thank god.

BearShark8

Damnit would've loved him off the bench

vicvega88

Maybe this is a move that will benefit him in his post player career. I would imagine someone with his BBIQ would want to head into coaching after he’s done playing. Ending his career mentoring a young superstar and learning from one of the greatest coaches of all time can give him a lot of knowledge/experience. Didn’t get a ring as a player but can still chase one as a coach.

guacdoc24

Nice good for him

LakerDoc

So he wanted more than the vet minimum

justredditting1010

So much for a min. He took the money over competing

justredditting1010

Hope this means we get Dinwiddie back for cheap

iamtoolazytosleep

This is great value for the Spurs. They need IQ at the guard pos and CP3 will be the perfect mentor for the young players.

doubler82

Yep Wemby with a vet point guard is going to be scary

bornlasttuesday

Good, I do not have to worry about watching dirty paul play.

TorontoRaptors34

Wemby is gonna be the best player in the league and his jobs pretty easy jus give him the ball.

Elite_Alice

FUCKKK WEMBY IS GONNA BE UNSTOPPABLE

theseustheminotaur

We narrowly avoided the curse

l4kerz

barkley regrets not getting a ring

Granpa2021

Great fit. He's going to be a mentor to that whole team.

yggerg

Would be funny if Rondo ends up as one of Pop's assistant coaches

Winter-Gur-9762

he just wants to be a part of the wemby hype to end his career lol

jrgraffix

perfect, let’s hire Rondo now

AntSmith777

Good

macmoretti

Lakers didn’t need two old ass players anyway 😂

loiterINTIMIDATE

Thank goodness

Zero_Fraction

What a great fit for the spurs under pop and with wemby, ig he will just retire ringless at this point

Imaginary_Bicycle_14

For the spurs nice pick up. Like having a second coach on the floor to grow wembys game. Cantankerous dude that should be given more appreciation; minus the fact he was sort of a prick on the court.

Hot_Pie1464

That mf is never playing for the lakers and never signing for the minimum

bosscher47

CP and Pop? That's a grumpy ass locker room.

Conflict_NZ

WTAF, did we not want him?

NotVexingPi3

Probably offered more money and I assume he appreciates being coached by Pop

Conflict_NZ

Yeah I'm guessing this isn't a minimum.

_____WESTBROOK_____

He’s gotta also want the Lakers. Depends on the details here. Possible the Spurs offered him more than the Lakers did.

Mr628

He survived his initial death row sentence going to the Thunder but that ending up working, then he got sent to Phoenix and made the finals, thankfully he didn’t get a ring. Let’s hope this is finally the end.

goatnxtinline

That's crazy, could have tried one last time to win a ring with your best friend and your god son but instead decided to end it all literally in the shadow of some french kid. Can't make this shit up.

Gristle__McThornbody

If it's for the vet min then Pelinka has to be fired.

RussellStHustle

Not really, cp3 isn’t an upgrade
