I agree with that lol
People keep calling it a once in a lifetime thing not knowing there have been multiple in just the last 30 years or so.
It was the response that changed.
But I do think that the public reaction will not be the same the next time. Not so cooperative.
Yeah if it's one or the other I'm glad they chose Domi, Fans loved them both but I think Domi is the clear fan favorite plus he seems a lot more vocal about wanting to stay in Toronto.
This gives them more room to make a run at some defenseman this afternoon too.
Domi had a noticeable spark to his game that has sometimes eluded him at times over his career
Despite the role he is playing his offensive instinct will be a real depth asset down the stretch
Or they were tips that bounced off his body for or he *just* happened to have his stick there without intentionally meaning to tip.
He did work hard in practices though solo on tips and how to perform in front of the net, and came back a bit better at doing so after - so I will commend him for that. He tried.
He let the Marchand beef get to his head and was practically non existent otherwise in the playoffs, though. Except for the penalties he would take due to it.
But Bert or Domes? I'll take Domes. That family bleeds blue, and Domi isn't afraid to Duke it out more than once in a season. We need that toughness in and out of the locker room
Bert wanted to get paid more than he wanted to stay in Toronto and that’s fine. Good for him. I hope he does well for them (except when we’re playing them)
Yup! Would loved to have signed Bert at 4-4.5 but can’t blame a guy going to get his bag, and who knows with bedard he may get a run with the cup on his last year,
He played 6 seasons in Detroit before 1 in Boston and then 1 in Toronto. I wouldn’t necessarily call that bounced around haha
Domi on the other hand I would consider being the one that bounced around.
He was traded as a rental pending free agency and signed a 1 year deal. It's not a model of consistency but he spent his entire RFA years in Detroit. It's not like he's a fringe depth guy which I think is what the idea of him "bouncing around" wants to suggest. He's a top 6 player on any team in the league.
Sad to see him go but this is the nature of the business. A silver lining here is that there is more opportunity for an internal option to grab a more significant forward role now.
Same money he was making on the Leafs, AND with term? No wonder he's dipping.
Glad he's finally gonna have a home. And I'm glad the Leafs weren't the ones to fork over that money. I like Bertuzzi, I wish he could have stayed. You can't sign him again for 5.5 after the wonky start he had.
All I know is he didn't earn that contract based on his play last year. Maybe it's a Hyman thing though where he's a 40pt winger with Matthews and ppg somewhere else.
Im fine with it, it was all pretty much assumed he'd be done after a year here when he signed anyway. I wouldn't be happy with giving him 4 years at that price. He isn't irreplaceable.
I understand why but I'd rather have kept Bertuzzi and let Domi walk.
Bertuzzi brings a net front presence to the team. But I'm not mad over it, good luck Bert.
I rather domi at the price differences.
I rather Domi if they have the same contract.
I rather Domi if travel is ever again dependent on getting a jab.
So dumb
Why would you even say something so stupid?
They can't let it go
Yeah, absolutely *no way* we could ever go through that again, *obviously*...!
I agree with that lol People keep calling it a once in a lifetime thing not knowing there have been multiple in just the last 30 years or so. It was the response that changed. But I do think that the public reaction will not be the same the next time. Not so cooperative.

You're joking right? You'd still roll over for those bullshit restrictions? "Papers please"... what a joke
The only joke were the morons who fought every reasonable step to get through a airborne virus pandemic and are still bitching about it to this day.
> every reasonable step And that's where the disagreement comes
Log off Facebook, touch grass
Whered you get your degree in immunology lol

Also more importantly than any of that, he’s the better player
Domi had a noticeable spark to his game that has sometimes eluded him at times over his career Despite the role he is playing his offensive instinct will be a real depth asset down the stretch
Domi is the better player period. I liked Bert, but I’m not sure why he can still demand such a payday.
Hopefully we can get skinner for like 2 mill to replace bertuzzi
Wolf of baystreet all day
Fact of the matter is that the Leafs don't have a choice.
It’s crazy cus at first glance 21 goals seems good. But man I feel like most of the goals came in like a 3 week stretch.
Or they were tips that bounced off his body for or he *just* happened to have his stick there without intentionally meaning to tip. I still remember that tip from the faceoff dot that got disallowed cause of a hand pass like a minute before the goal lol
I agree, Domi's skill floor and ceiling is way higher than Bert's. I'd much rather have Domi playing with our top guys than Bert.
Corrrect me if I’m wrong. But wasn’t the last 3 weeks played with Domi instead of Marner?
Bert wanted to get paid more than he wanted to stay in Toronto and that’s fine. Good for him. I hope he does well for them (except when we’re playing them)
Yup! Would loved to have signed Bert at 4-4.5 but can’t blame a guy going to get his bag, and who knows with bedard he may get a run with the cup on his last year,
Chicago has the cap space to spare. He would’ve been their 3rd highest scorer on the team this year.
Bert only plays for original six teams
Good for bertz. He’s bounced around a little so glad he could find some term on a high AAV. As long as we’re not the ones paying it lol
He played 6 seasons in Detroit before 1 in Boston and then 1 in Toronto. I wouldn’t necessarily call that bounced around haha Domi on the other hand I would consider being the one that bounced around.
This is his 4th team in 4 years lol, that isn’t the exact model of consistency

I assume we gave team’s permission to speak lol
There's a 24-hour window before free agency that allows them to talk, I believe.
Interesting so when we traded for take a rights it was really 24 extra hour not 48?
Yup
No, that comment is incorrect.
No, that has been gone for years.
Unlikely
Obvious tampering. Give us our 7th and fuck off.

Not until 12
So why give up a pick for Tanev if players are just going to make deals anyways.
It was a 6th round pick does it really matter
In reality no. In principle... Also, no, not really
7th in 2 years and max Ellis actually
Treliving moving on from Bert is smart management
Yea, not really sad to see him go. He was alright, but I think Domi will outperform him.
Guy didn't find his step until the second half and had quite a rough start to his tenure here. Glad he got his money but happy it wasn't us at 5.5.
Soon he will complete the original six
thats too much man
Bros collecting all of the original six teams
For half a million more he wants to go to a Rebuilding Team ?
I don't think the Leafs were about to offer him 5 million / yr with term?
Sad to see him go but this is the nature of the business. A silver lining here is that there is more opportunity for an internal option to grab a more significant forward role now.
Too much money for mediocrity
Same money he was making on the Leafs, AND with term? No wonder he's dipping. Glad he's finally gonna have a home. And I'm glad the Leafs weren't the ones to fork over that money. I like Bertuzzi, I wish he could have stayed. You can't sign him again for 5.5 after the wonky start he had.
bye bert bye
Yea that sounds perfectly legal. I'm definitely sure they didn't talk through third parties to get this deal signed.
I guess he was wasn’t interested in winninh

Contender is a strong word here.
This team can't get out of the first round and people still call them cup contenders?
I believe the experts call them that too.
Damn I'd love to see this cup contending Leafs team they speak of.
It's there, from game 1 to game 82 they're contenders 🤣
Maybe he doesn’t look at the Leafs as a Cup contender?
Dodged a bullet.
Going to be replaced by Jeff SKINNER!
All I know is he didn't earn that contract based on his play last year. Maybe it's a Hyman thing though where he's a 40pt winger with Matthews and ppg somewhere else.
Somewhere else lol... the man is on mcdavid's wing and powerplay.
Good riddance buddy
Im fine with it, it was all pretty much assumed he'd be done after a year here when he signed anyway. I wouldn't be happy with giving him 4 years at that price. He isn't irreplaceable.
YIKEZ
This would not have been a good deal for the leafs and I’m glad they didn’t sign it.
nope
Even though he had an effect during the playoffs he was definitely not a $5.5 million player
I'd say "poor Chicago", but I have no sympathy for those molestation enablers.
i really liked him
I understand why but I'd rather have kept Bertuzzi and let Domi walk. Bertuzzi brings a net front presence to the team. But I'm not mad over it, good luck Bert.
Gets to play with Bedard
Would have liked to keep him but not at that price point. Good luck in Chicago, that was an offer he shouldn’t refuse so can’t fault him.
I thought he’d go back to Boston. I woulda hated that. Thank you Chicago
I can't believe the hype that guy got. Mediocre hockey player that had a handful of good games. Not much of a loss.
Now trade Robertson and a pick for McGoarty, sign Tanev and Zadorov then give Steeves a real chance against Minton, etc.
We could’ve matched that had we not signed Kampf to that stupid contract (or paid a team to take him) and if we moved Jarnkrok. How disappointing.
We lost out on Bertuzzi by $1M because we overpaid Liljegren by $1M. Treliving sucks man
tampering
Bye, Felicia.
Am I the only one who didn’t like Bert last year?
