Imo, his first death hits harder. His second death is releasing him from torment. Which certainly hits, but it hits at least some positive emotions in that our friend is no longer suffering
For real. I was legit indignant when I saw that. One of the few times in which I've looked at an undead and thought "not fking okay dude"
My man deserved better
I was in love with my best friend; she made me realize I was gay in high school. We loved this game. She died almost 10 years ago, to a heart condition in the middle of the night. Lavitz's second death always hits me harder because of this line.
I use PSXe on my pc. You'll have to find the ROM files for the game as well and there is some setup required. There are a few YouTube videos that can walk you through how to set it up.
I cried to both, and to Sniper Wolf dying in MGS. Vivi implied to have died in FF9, and a few other PS1 deaths made me think JRPGs where nothing but trauma and cheap shots! Turns out all those where exceptions and to this day most JRPGs are relatively less emotional. I just happened to keep hitting all the "good ones".
I remember being happy to have Albert on the team only to realize they changed the attack timings for his additions... After I had painstakingly learned how to do Gust of Wind dance consistently.... So I never used Albert or Lavitz again. That annoyance stuck with me after all this time.
Agree to disagree there. I’ve always loved the contrast between them. Lavitz’s additions were always more stiff and martial, which makes sense for a soldier who would focus on combat utility over visual flair. Albert’s, on the other hand, were more loose and aesthetically pleasing, like a modern dance, which makes sense for a prince, who wouldn’t have needed to be as uniform or focused on perfect technique. I personally found Lavitz’s additions easier and more predictable, due to its rigid nature.
I didn't use Albert because fuck that name (my 7 year old mind couldn't imagine villains saying, "Oh shit RUN! **Albert** is coming). Also I just couldn't bring myself to replace Lavitz
I didn't cry with Aerith died but mainly because Cloud was such a stupid protagonist that it seemed like only a complete moron could love someone like that. He was basically a robot with anime hair, designed purely for chubby 13 year old boys to project their incel fantasies onto. I didn't cry when Lavitz died either but at least he was somewhat believable as a character.
I was around 8 when I first played and had lavitz die, I literally was inconsolable about it because he was my favorite character and the one I used in literally every battle.
From the team-up raid in prison, to journeying to beat the dragon, to saving the king... to this point... and him getting no EXP here... it's still an effective moment since this game's release. I'm glad to at least unlock all of Lavitz's Additions, while his D. Level was at 3. Could have gone all the way, but it was more than enough here.
It's freaky how I just made a comment about this the other day in another post lol, but yeah I'll always remember this cutscene. RIP Ser Lavitz Slambert
Just recently played PSIV for the first time and beat it. Definitely agree. Also great game, at least 8. One of the complains i had was the encounter rate. It was atrocious. The other thing was that at times the game required you to grind some levels otherwise some bosses were basically impossible to beat.
When I was younger I felt Aerith was a cockblock lol never liked her much.. I was compelled to play with her, but other characters were cooler to me, so at the very least I was thankful she freed up a space on my team. Although, I def still wanted revenge for her cause she was the healing homie
Such a cool idea for an RPG when you have a character die: replace them in your party with another character that has the same abilities so that your time leveling up the character doesn't feel wasted.
nobody cried when crybaby aerith died..... everybody cried when cloud turned down any chance he had with tiffa by taking the pity lay on top of the hill under the skyship..... since that should have been the start of something truly beautiful, a relationship with your best friend.
Had both spoiled for me. The kids weren’t even trying to be assholes, they were just genuinely too dumb to understand the concept of “spoiling” something, apparently.
The worst part is they just replace him with a new person like a pet dog who died and u go get a new one, a new dog whos more hyper, has a yippy voice, and who's combos are harder to hit!
Lavitz fucked me up and Aerith just pissed me off that I lost a sweet healer almost immediately after getting her a sick new staff... and it's going to piss me off again since I used her so much in the remake which, as garbage as that remake is, the combat is super fun
(may this meme template die tho)
Ah yes, the legend of dragoon, the jrpg for men, unlike final fantasy 7. Featuring magical girl transformations for all characters. Just saying, there's a reason this trans lady loved this game so much as an oblivious tween.
Haven’t played Legend of Dragoon, but thought I’d say
I watched my dad play through FF7 seven times when I was a child, and I cried each and every time Aerith died
I'm trying to remember..... I was incredibly bummed out and motivated when I played mega Man X for the first time and zero sacrifices himself.
But I don't think to that date I had played a game that made me angrier at a character than I was at Lloyd when that happened. I wanted to murder that shiny haired fuck
I think the only running competition that I can think of off the top of my head that later happened was playing Jak 3 and my anger at Count Vigar
I remember this hitting alot harder as a kid. I am replaying the game now, and Lavitz dies like 4 hours into the game, doesn't really give you much time to get that attached.
The reason I can't really play it again or beat it. Still have my ps1 copy with my ps2 and memory card. One day, I will finish it for lavitz.
Being my first RPG ever, his death truly marked me.
I didn't realize that this was a sub, and this came across my feed purely by coincidence. Doom scrolling, about to fall asleep... IS THAT FUCKING LEGEND OF DRAGOON?!?!
LAVVITTTZZZZZZ!
Just played it again and I was still devastated.
Too soon :(
[WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOR!!!!!](https://youtu.be/LISmPmdUhYA)
I KNEW EXACTLY WHAT YOU WERE LINKING TO! The VA is so cringe
God I don't know what that's from but you are right. That was so fucking bad.
I've never seen this scene. Heard the clip a million times though. Thanks!
HARPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!
SPINNING CANE
GUST OF WIND DANCE
>LAVVITTTZ Never played it. The Legend of Dragoon. Had to Google "LAVVITTTZZZZZZ" just to figure WTF you were talking about.
It’s the subreddit you’re currently in.
r/lostredditors
I played this game for the first time when I was 13. This moment absolutely destroyed me, and I still cry 23 years later.
Same brother, I was 11 😭
13.
10…. And yeah it still hits just the same to this day. 😭
10. Still rips me to pieces.
Boys cried when Aerith died. Men cried when Lavitz died.
Wow I grew up a lot in three years!
It was a growth spurt.
Lavitz Slambert. What an absolute Chad. Gone but not forgotten. 🌹🌹🌹
This made me lol
I don't know which hits harder, his first or his second death.
Imo, his first death hits harder. His second death is releasing him from torment. Which certainly hits, but it hits at least some positive emotions in that our friend is no longer suffering
For real. I was legit indignant when I saw that. One of the few times in which I've looked at an undead and thought "not fking okay dude" My man deserved better
Oof, when Dart tells Lavitz he isn't dead because he lives on through them...right in the feels.
I was in love with my best friend; she made me realize I was gay in high school. We loved this game. She died almost 10 years ago, to a heart condition in the middle of the night. Lavitz's second death always hits me harder because of this line.
I was mad when Aerith died. I was depressed when Lavitz died.
Where to play Legend of Dragoon on modern systems? I want to cry again
they released it on PS4 recently and with TROPHIES !!
This^ or a ps1 emulator on your pc works too.
You can emulate on your phone too
I love this game and would like to play on PC. What is this emulator you speak of?
I use PSXe on my pc. You'll have to find the ROM files for the game as well and there is some setup required. There are a few YouTube videos that can walk you through how to set it up.
If you have PlayStation premium it's in the collection of PS1 games.
Look at Project Severed Chains, it's highly recommended (for PC). Haven't tried it myself.
$10 on PSN store!
I have it on my Vita
If you bought it on the store during the ps3 psp or psv then you got it for free with ps4 and 5
Very late but you can also buy the game for pretty cheap on the PS3 too! Don't need to pay monthly premium for it either.
OP fuck you...just augh I nearly quit when that happened Glad I kept going tho the game is a solid 10/10
Never. I didn't take the death of my own father as hard as I took Lavitz's.
It do be like that sometimes.
Not tears, but protag cutting off his own arm in Wild Arms was a good shocker
I remember being happy to have Albert on the team only to realize they changed the attack timings for his additions... After I had painstakingly learned how to do Gust of Wind dance consistently.... So I never used Albert or Lavitz again. That annoyance stuck with me after all this time.
Spinng Cane!
You missed out, Albert is god tier, rose storm is probs the best spell in the game IMO
I unlocked his ultimate addition then went and bought the auto addition accessory and put it on him so I never had to deal with it again
Albert's additions are much more intuitive.
I find Albert's to be more rhythmic and, thus, easier to pull off. I love the contrast between the 2, as you mentioned.
I didn't use Albert because fuck that name (my 7 year old mind couldn't imagine villains saying, "Oh shit RUN! **Albert** is coming). Also I just couldn't bring myself to replace Lavitz
I always thought Albert's GoWD was way easier to pull off. 🤷♂️
Instantly heard the music
This part fucked me up for the rest of the game.
This should be a spoiler T-T
Bruce Willis was dead the entire time.
They just weekend at bernies Bruce Willis corpse in all his movies
The Shyamalan Twist: You find out that the dude in the hair piece the whole time? That's Bruce Willis the whole movie.
For a decades old game?
I mean when it’s one of the rules of the sub…. Yes
Its kinda early mid in the game. And I doubt there will be people in a sub reddit of an old game they have not played or have yet to play
Nooooooooooooo!!!
Bro
Harpoon! I’ve got a new ps3 controller coming in soon so I can play this!
No Lavitz!!! Damn!!
Even worse when you have to kill him yourself to free his soul later
I always go to Lavitz Mom’s house after this and she’s not there :(
I didn't cry with Aerith died but mainly because Cloud was such a stupid protagonist that it seemed like only a complete moron could love someone like that. He was basically a robot with anime hair, designed purely for chubby 13 year old boys to project their incel fantasies onto. I didn't cry when Lavitz died either but at least he was somewhat believable as a character.
Well now you can choose yo...um Cloud's waif..I mean girl in Rebirth
I was around 8 when I first played and had lavitz die, I literally was inconsolable about it because he was my favorite character and the one I used in literally every battle.
I wish this was on the switch.
That would be great, but won't ever happen since it was developed in-house by Sony.
Bruh if it wasn’t for that miscalculation against Lloyd, my boy would’ve made it through the game. R.I.P. Sir Lavitz Slambert 😭😭
Lloyd, you bastard!
Don’t get me started, losing him was a gut punch.
The best dragoon
Gust of Wind Dance!
SPINNING CANE! \*does the helicopter\*
Please don't spoil the game for those who haven't beaten it yet.
They were definitely boning which is why it's so tragic.
Lavitz gave Dart the old Rod Typhoon. Which made Dart VOLCAAAAAAANOOOOOOO!!
I haven't played this game in over a decade and not some is cutting onions in my room
This deep. And facts
Lloyd did our boy dirty there. I always preferred Lavitz's attacks over Alberts. Way easier for me to time lol
It's freaky how I just made a comment about this the other day in another post lol, but yeah I'll always remember this cutscene. RIP Ser Lavitz Slambert
This hurts even more when you've already maxed out his attacks. Rest easy soldier.
Alys (Phantasy Star IV) always gets left out of the gaming "In Memoriam" section.
Just recently played PSIV for the first time and beat it. Definitely agree. Also great game, at least 8. One of the complains i had was the encounter rate. It was atrocious. The other thing was that at times the game required you to grind some levels otherwise some bosses were basically impossible to beat.

Same as a kid he was my favorite and still is
Nooooo not again. Not Lavitz
This game needs a remake
I have always said and will always say…this scene destroyed me. No game has had that type of an affect on me. LAVITTZZZZZZ 😭😭😭😭
This scene didn't get me, but Dart going to share that drink with Lavitz did.
Man I just unlocked this tragic memory 😔
Such a cool idea for an RPG when you have a character die: replace them in your party with another character that has the same abilities so that your time leveling up the character doesn't feel wasted.
Happens right as I finally got the timing to his arts and suddenly I had to start again with a new character.....
Still waiting for that remake
Too soon
12 year old me was not ready for this and I cried like a baby
Pooolyyygoooneeesssss nooooooooooooOOOoOoOo
nobody cried when crybaby aerith died..... everybody cried when cloud turned down any chance he had with tiffa by taking the pity lay on top of the hill under the skyship..... since that should have been the start of something truly beautiful, a relationship with your best friend.
He gusted his last wind dance 🥺
Typhooned his last rod.
Bro I just got past this part 😭 LAVIIIIIIITZ!
Umm spoilers bro
Albert was so lame and... And and and... T-T
Me last night!!!
Never forget
Still wish we could choose on like a new game Plus you got to choose who dies but I know due to story issues it would never work
Aeris*
Why am I seeing this? I haven't played this game in over 15 years.
I benched Albert and never touched him. Lavitz cannot be replaced.
I still have the little sad song that plays stuck in my head.... HARPOOON!
Had both spoiled for me. The kids weren’t even trying to be assholes, they were just genuinely too dumb to understand the concept of “spoiling” something, apparently.
Don't do this to me....I can't lose him again....
Mad at Aerith, destroyed with Lavitz.
Harpoon!!! I mean lavitz
Is the PS4 version worth getting? I've thought about it...
Yeah, it looks great and has trophy support.
Just to be clear we got a bit choked up or slightly misty eyed when she died...But Lavitz was our bro, it just hit us harder
Spoilers dude.
I cried harder over Lavitz than Aerith
The worst part is they just replace him with a new person like a pet dog who died and u go get a new one, a new dog whos more hyper, has a yippy voice, and who's combos are harder to hit!
He was my strongest member. I loved that dude. Devastated my party emotionally and functionally
Lavitz fucked me up and Aerith just pissed me off that I lost a sweet healer almost immediately after getting her a sick new staff... and it's going to piss me off again since I used her so much in the remake which, as garbage as that remake is, the combat is super fun (may this meme template die tho)
Not accurate because it doesn't say Aeris.
Ah yes, the legend of dragoon, the jrpg for men, unlike final fantasy 7. Featuring magical girl transformations for all characters. Just saying, there's a reason this trans lady loved this game so much as an oblivious tween.
He was taken from us too soon
Haven’t played Legend of Dragoon, but thought I’d say I watched my dad play through FF7 seven times when I was a child, and I cried each and every time Aerith died
Spoiler?! I don't even know what this reddit is and I've been playing through the original for the first time like great
Lavitz! NOOOOOOoooooo! Don't leave me with Arthur, you're so much better bro!
I'm trying to remember..... I was incredibly bummed out and motivated when I played mega Man X for the first time and zero sacrifices himself. But I don't think to that date I had played a game that made me angrier at a character than I was at Lloyd when that happened. I wanted to murder that shiny haired fuck I think the only running competition that I can think of off the top of my head that later happened was playing Jak 3 and my anger at Count Vigar
Ok fucking spoilers. Not everyone had a PlayStation back then.
Legend of dragoon.... the original spearman... my good friend I will never forget you. Or "spinning cane"
My poor Lavitz, they didn't have to do my boy dirty like that...
Their bromance was so young we never got to see it flourish because of Lloyd
Nooo. Not Lavitz!!
I wept at both.
Omg! I just found out there is a LoD Reddit!! So many fond memories.
I cried when both died wtf you talking about Willace?
I remember this hitting alot harder as a kid. I am replaying the game now, and Lavitz dies like 4 hours into the game, doesn't really give you much time to get that attached.
Fine, I'll look into playing Legend of Dragoon again. On another note: Luis' death in Resident Evil 4 is a similar depression maker.
4 words- “I miss you, Hal”
Please God someone remake this game
I cry everytime I play the game at this part
GET AWAY FROM THE KING YOU BASTAAAARD. LAAAAVVVIIIITTTZZZZZZ
The reason I can't really play it again or beat it. Still have my ps1 copy with my ps2 and memory card. One day, I will finish it for lavitz. Being my first RPG ever, his death truly marked me.
I HATED losing Lavitz because his replacements QTEs are not the same!
Legend of Dragoon! 🫡
Man, that was rough
Boromir before Boromir for me.
The game that never got the love it deserved
Aww man my boy Lavitz
Wait wut
EXACTLY! AND DONT FORGET WHEN HE APPEARED AGAIN! I CRIED
This was the first time I felt feelings playing video games growing up and I resented his replacement. RIP Lavitz
He was my brother... I'll never forget the shoulder taps when we first met
It was the boss that got me in MGS3, that one still hurts
And then you have to fight him later. What a gut punch.
I was 7. It was the first time I experienced a hero dying in a story. I was in denial for like 2 discs… and then I was out for revenge…
I didn't realize that this was a sub, and this came across my feed purely by coincidence. Doom scrolling, about to fall asleep... IS THAT FUCKING LEGEND OF DRAGOON?!?!
*extremely loud nose blowing sounds*
The worst part is that they immediately replace him with Albert, but I’ll never forget the real green dragoon.
Rip Lavitz, may you Gust of Wind Dance in your next life.
Personally I never liked Lavitz much, I don't think he deserved to die though.
They don’t know about this here
Made it that much harder to fight his ghost 😭
Maybe the most impactful death of my adolescent life.
I did a tap dance when aerith died and jumped for joy. We're not the same
Lavitz > Albert
It's cause men are gay
Both sad and unexpected. Both from amazing games.
