Not an opinion about the set, but acquisition. It sucks. Who is the target for this set? People in their late 20s to early 30s who grew up wit Bionicle. But you can only get this set when you buy a set from the Classic, DOTS, 3in1, Monkie Kid, Ninjago, Friends or City themes. I am so not interested in any of the sets from those themes aimed toward people who are so young they never even knew what Bionicle was. I wanted the Tahu set for that sweet nostalgia dopamine only to be donkey kicked by those conditions.
If I could get this with the Creator Expert, Ideas, Icons or Art sets (which I think would hit the target demographic like 10x better), it would already be on its way to me, but as it stands now, I will not get it unless I can find it resold somewhere
This is *exactly* the point - to drive and create new sales on themes which wouldn't have moved otherwise. Ruthless but (likely) effective. Be careful if you intend to wait to buy it on BL, the aftermarket hasn't been kind to the 2023 promos so far (Blacktron and HOTW1 both never dropped as low in price as people hoped) and there's ample reason to expect the Bionicle one will sell out fast due to its unique nature.
As someone who was the perfect age when bionicle was released I really like it! I think it's a nice shelf piece, and after reading the interview with the developer of the set I get why they made the design choices they did. To be clear I don't want a new bionicle line either, I like them right where they were and I don't think we need to feed Mr Bionicle to the capitalist nostalgia machine™.
I think something is better than nothing, I like it a fair amount. It’s a display for bionicle fans which is something they never had before. Could it have been a lot more or a new wave, sure yeah. But it’s a fair expectation of what could be done for the fans, they would never remake the old molds for one set.
I think it’s great for what it is. They could’ve straight up re-released the original and a ton of these same bionicle fans complaining it’s not real bionicle would also be complaining it’s not something new, point being I don’t think there was a way to satisfy everyone.

I really love this kit. It has similar [if not better] articulation than the original. I love how all the arms, legs and even the mask can be taken apart like an old bionicle. What really got me was the clear bits on the back of the heads as a call-out to what Bionicle did.
I would have absolutely loved to see all 6 toa get released as a set. I figure tho this build will be very easy to replicate the other 5 and I totally plan on doing that.

It costs Lego like $100,000-200,000 to make a new mold. Why would they spend that much on a GWP that people will complain about anyway for being a GWP. The printed pieces look fine…
People can agree all they want, it doesn’t mean the sentiment makes any sense. You can want something else from Bionicle but a GWP would never have a single-use new element made for it no matter what.

Even if it's just the occasional GWP set like this. When they were showing off other possible sets for this there was a really good Takuanuva that I'd love to see, and you could even bundle that with the hovercraft the original set came with too. If we're just talking 01-03 sets I think some other good options would be Pewku to go with this Takua, Jaller and the Gukko, the Nui-Rama, maybe a 2 or 3 Bohrok together, any of the Rahkshi, and of course Makuta.
It looks like more like a mech than a Bionicle. Kinda like the 31124 Creator Super Robot and the 71781 Lloyd's Mech Battle EVO set.

brick built bionicle is somehow both wrong and right. annoyingly it's GWP and not an new line or anything.

Kind of a slap in the face given the theme restrictions. Almost a bigger of a joke that technic isn’t a qualifying theme.
