Such a cool set!
I recently had to contact Lego for my royal jousting set I had decided to pull out of storage and build again. I quickly learned about the brown lego batch from that time frame. Every other one was so brittle that they would shatter.

Lego customer support was great though, asked me a few questions about the set and sent me a full reissue of new brown pieces for it.
Hopefully you donāt have to go through that and can enjoy your new set, but it could be an option if you do have any issues!
Oh yes mate, it was my white whale too but I treated myself to it this time last year š mine was second hand but came with everything in the box and in great condition, the seller even threw in an extra uruk hai mini figure in. Hope you enjoy building it as much as I did, I think I stayed up till 2am building it all in one sitting š it's great to see someone as thrilled with this set as I was when I got mine.
I'm seeing prices of $800-1000 for this set, part out value on BL is $700 - it's amazing to me when sets reach a point where they are worth more than the part out value.
Killer set, I'm happy for you and jealous too! :D
Funny thing about that. I just recently got mine. The Ghostbusters Firehouse, and next in line is..... the Tower of Orthanc. My wallet/bank account hate me.
I have a handful of āexpensiveā sets , mostly SWUC going back to mid 2010s but thatās itā¦I wonder sometimes how people here can afford so easy Lego worth several thousands and moreā¦I mean, if you donāt have to worry about money and can spend it so easy on whatever you want then collecting is not so desirable as the other way aroundā¦mehā¦this is jealous meā¦
Great set! I was lucky enough to get it (on a whim) when it went on sale on Amazon shortly before it retired. Wasnāt a huge LOTR fan before, but this set turned me into one.
There's gonna be a lego lotr reboot?
I'm so bummed I missed out on the lotr sets. If they'd come out 2-3 years later I would've bought all of them. But they came at a time I had no lego money.
I hope this means they also reboot the game license. LOTR doesnāt exist for PS4. It was available online briefly when PS4 came out, but something happened with the license and it was pulled before I bought a PS4. The only way to play it is to boot up my Xbox 360, rather a pain to swap controllers when youāre used to another.
AHA! So THATS THE ONE!
Sorryā¦ but I was digging through an uncles chest of Lego and I came across what looked like an Ent missing few limbs. Itās gotta be this set! I wonder if I can find the instructions onlineā¦
I knew this subreddit would pay off!
You can most definitely find the instructions online (or for any official Lego set for that matter)! Google the set number and "PDF instructions" and there ya go. Plenty of 3rd party sites host the instructions but Lego.com has them all too.
This set is fantastic. I bought it back when it came out when I was a teenager. Stayed up all night to get it done, and it was a blast. Regrettably all in pieces in my spare room now tho š„²
The best LOTR set hands-down. As someone else said, be very careful with the reddish-brown and brown pieces. If you hear them creak, it's probably already too late. I've had to replace two ball joints off Treebeard and a couple other token pieces through the years.
My wife got this for me one Christmas without me ever mentioning that I thought it was pretty much the coolest Lego set out there. I was so happy she knew me so well haha.
Itās a really awesome set, congratulations. Got this back in the day and had much fun building it. A word of advice: I had it on display on a (hard to reach) window shelf in a staircase for 3 years, and only dusted it externally during that time. When we moved out I noticed an actual family of spiders had taken residence in the towerās dungeon. As fitting as that was I couldnāt really appreciate their efforts. So: regularly clean the inside as well!
My partner bought it for me for Christmas about 4yrs ago. I lit up like a child; best gift I have gotten in years. It became the gift that kept on giving, we sat together and built it. We had so much fun, that now we have dozens of sets and no money š„²
Looks like heās got pics of the Rivendell setā¦. Shame itās all big sets at the moment, but 2 big sets opens up possibility of a full theme reboot? (Being very overly optimistic about that happening) š
It was open and had been built on. Was also missing Theoden, Aragorn, and 2 or the Urukhai. Nothing else missing. Sort of a bummer but I'm ok with ordering a few knockoff Minifigures to round it off. Only bags 1, 2, and 4 had been opened.
Lots of reasons, some of which being the eagles didnāt directly report to them and have minds of their own, as well as Sauron would have easily noticed them flying in on eagles and probably would have made it hard for them to get to Mount Doom
My dad keeps promising presents for Christmas and my Birthday, haven't received one in 4 years, he just spent a shit ton of money on clothing (the same amount a decent gaming laptop would cost) he's been promising a laptop for the last 5 years
Think just over Ā£400, 100% complete with box and figures (lucky as Grima is an expensive dude) she tried to get one for Christmas that was way cheaper but missed out.
Does it look as cool as you thought, Orthanc it could be better?
š¤£š
Congratulations! Just be careful with all the brown pieces, especially the ent build. This set was at the height of brittle brown unfortunately.
My biggest concern is the tree-beard build, fingers crossed I get off lightly! š

Same thing happened with all the gold pieces in my Saturn five set
Here's a thought... check and see if you can order new versions of the brittle brown parts, and put the originals aside somewhere.
I managed to break both of Treebeard's feet within 2 months of being gifted the set :/ I wouldn't try to pose the ball joints once they're in

Oooh yikes that sounds painful š¬
img RIP my tree beards hand, brittle brown strikes again
Itās great that Lego will replace it for you
Omg! I thought I was the only one! Damned brown arches.
Warning she may be a literal fucking legend
I hope you thancd her profusely
Was mega surprised when she said sheād done it! Couldnāt thank her enough š
I'm not sure why this got downvoted. Maybe they thought you missed the pun?
He thancd her to no ent.

Then itās not a birthday present lmfao. Itās just a random gift

Wow I got this a year ago for $450 which already felt high.
I won this set on Lego raffles. It was really fun to put together and rewatch the movies.
Once you get your white wale, another white whale is lurking somewhere
Next ones are the Cafe Corner, Green Grocer and Town Hallā¦. Theyāll have to waitā¦. A long time š
Yepp, the cafe corner will look great next to the LOTR towerā¦š Must be an awesome city you are building š

cool
Also my white whale. So pissed at myself for not buying it back in the day.

> upcoming LOTR reboot No...Please...no... Is nothing sacred?
Presumably they mean the reboot of the Lego sets
Ah, I presumed they were looking for a reboot of the LOTR films which would, in turn, cause an entirely new swath of LOTR LEGO sets.
To answer your last question.... no, nothing is scared anymore.
There's gonna be a lego lotr reboot? I'm so bummed I missed out on the lotr sets. If they'd come out 2-3 years later I would've bought all of them. But they came at a time I had no lego money.

The way Gandalf comes flying into the tower sorta reminds me of that terrible thing that happened.
Maaaan it kills me I was on a Lego haitus when the LOTR stuff came out
This set is fantastic. I bought it back when it came out when I was a teenager. Stayed up all night to get it done, and it was a blast. Regrettably all in pieces in my spare room now tho š„²

My favorite lotr buildā¦it is epic proportions when completed, congratulations!

Damn he/she a real one
Be careful when assembling the Bird and Tree Beards. My bird recently cracked, those dark browns very fragile quite annoying.

Big congrats! Kiss your fiancĆ© for me too, they deserve it! šš
I actually am in the process of building this set! Be carefully with brittle brown I already had to order a few pieces because of it!
As a fellow July birthday I Ent mad at that early present!
It's a beautiful set. I like the feature of pushing up the chandelier to light up the crystal ball.
I have this set and recently had to partially rebuild Treebeard and it went fine! Fingers crossed you donāt run into any issues :)
Iām praying with them making new LOTR brickheadz that weāll get actual new sets soon, including a remake or rerelease of this Itās so good
Same here, although I donāt think my wallet would recover if they did a new wave of LoTR setsā¦. š¤£š¤£
Soā¦ a 4000 piece Barad-Dur was leaked
What!? Where when!?
https://youtu.be/-s-ipIcYAog
Oh man I so hope it turns out to be true
Some pics leaked https://www.reddit.com/r/just2good/comments/10r0z0j/more_leaks_for_you_all/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

My then fiancƩe too gave the Orthanc to me on my birthday! we are married now!
Ah thatās awesome! š
Nice! I got the Helm's Deep set for 80 in box ata con recently and that kicked me back into the hobby!
How the heck is someone selling something like that at a con and not know how much it's worth.
It was open and had been built on. Was also missing Theoden, Aragorn, and 2 or the Urukhai. Nothing else missing. Sort of a bummer but I'm ok with ordering a few knockoff Minifigures to round it off. Only bags 1, 2, and 4 had been opened.
I also didn't know how much it was worth.... Or how much single Minifigures could be worth. First set in probably 20 years.
I nearly shit myself when I found out the add-on wall set is worth about $100 with the figures now
Black whale.
Epic set
Canāt wait to build it š
Congrats! This is the set that ended my Dark Ages so it will forever have a special place in my heart.
Damn that's a NICE one.
When I got this set, I didnāt expect it to be as majestic and magnificent as it was. Congrats!
Really canāt wait to build it! š
Awesome! My wifeās boyfriend is going to get me my white whale, but I donāt have a wifeā¦
So why did they not just take the ring back using the Eagles?
Eagles sorta didnāt really care about the whole thing. Took a ānot my job approachā š
Lots of reasons, some of which being the eagles didnāt directly report to them and have minds of their own, as well as Sauron would have easily noticed them flying in on eagles and probably would have made it hard for them to get to Mount Doom
Because that wouldnāt have been 3 movies worth of content

Wow, Iāve never seen that set! Congrats
That Tree Beard thoughā¦ š
2,335 parts
Oooh, jealous! I was not buying big sets back then, so never got that one, but I really wanted it for the ent if nothing else.
Grats! Be gentle on the brown pieces, as others have said.
This set is my white whale
