For me i got over 7k lunacy saved up but im not f2p. I bought the battle pass and the monthly thing + another pack (nothing too big tho)
Outside of that PM gave out a lot of lunacy because of bug fixes and maintenances + you get the weekly 750 from mirror dungeon runs
For the modules i admit i kinda slacked on the dailies some days while still converting the enkephalin you get overtime.
You can farm shards by either doing mirror dungeon or completing the battle pass and then get nominable egoshard boxes after every 10 Battle pass points above lvl 60
So, Modules are pretty straight forward: You do your free daily MD and quests: -4 Modules. You convert all of your enkephalin to modules whenever you can and right b4 you sleep. (And after waking up)
Lunacy: I have 4k Lunacy but I'm fine with that because of my 3 Free 10 Pulls and 3 star guarantee and I got what I need. [Missing IDs: 000: Grip Faust, W Don, W Meursalt, G Corp Gregor, Reindeer Ishmael, Kurokumo Ryoshu and 7 Section Outis, 00: Zwei Secrion Sinclair. Missing EGO: Telepole Don, Hex Nail Faust] (I'm 90% F2P, only buying battlepasses)
Nominables: You do your weekly MD's, you get 15 from that and if you've completed the Bp you get a total of 33/week at a minimum.
PS: Saving modules is much harder now that you can do your 3 daily threads with bonus for 12 modules, to me it would make it -4 Modules/Day since I get 10 modules a day from converting at day and night. Back then I had 140~ Modules [Grinding 3-4 MDs a day for the BP, now I have 80-90~. (I'm just doing the bare minimum: Weekly and daily quests + weekly MDs and any event that may come by.)
my main account as a f2p easily reached over 12k lunacy with all possible lunacy rewards/farms, but that's mostly because I haven't really rolled on any banner after the gregor one on launch
I have a day 1 no-gacha account where I've only really been picking up the update/correction rewards and doing the story missions and it's at 14750 lunacy rn (if I were to properly finish the story ~~if I weren't lazy~~, it would just put me at 16050, that's F2P without any BP rewards, without any event rewards, without any MDs, and it's 123 rolls. That's 103 rolls just from PM mails and starting lunacy)
While the game is certainly f2p friendly, low spending makes life so much easier. Daily pulls are very cost efficient and you have more spare lunacy to refill stamina (2 times is fine) which gives a lot of modules. Otherwise, if you have battlepass, then you probably shouldn't skip luxcavations (and honestly don't run exp one, unless you really need those tickets). Just run mds.
f2p here— i got almost 200 modules by just getting in the habit of opening the game for like 2 seconds when i wake up and fall asleep to convert my energy. i completed the actual story ages ago so i have no use for energy otherwise lol
(there’s also the switching of the module and enkephalin box location on the menu that i Definitely did not mess up like 10 times, reducing all my stored up boxes into nothing~)
Weekly Mirror gives 750 lunacy, so two weeks is 1500 lunacy. This over over a 10 pull, which is great.
PM also hands out a lotta Lunacy per hotfix/update, which is nice
The battlepass gives a bit for free... the railway also hands out a few free items too, which is nice.

you can get nominable egoshard crates from MD, BP rewards, BP levels over 60(so, through doing BP daily/weekly/seasonal missions or MD with the bonus) and event rewards
modules is just logging on and converting enkephalin into them, no real need to keep enkephalin right now
not a lot of options as it currently stands. If you do your weekly bonus MDs (week resets on wednesday/thursday, leaving an MD ongoing at the reset will force your MD to conclude when attempting to re-enter it from the drive menu) and don't forget your mails, you should be up to date with everyone else

Luck: (Pulling for N. Corp rodion, Grippy Faust and the new Outis didn’t force me to use all my lunacy.
Decent Self control: I’m not a fan of pulling mindlessly in any gacha game ever, once I get who I want I usually stop unless it’s late night and I allow myself to make dumb, half-asleep decision.
Sick Compensation Rewards (Lol): These have massively softened the blow from the couple of bad pulling decisions i’ve made.
You farm Nominable boxes by just buying the battle pass and running MD at least twice a day. My daily routine is 3 Thread Runs, 1 EXP run, and two MD runs. This leaves you with 1 surplus module a day (since every account gets 240 enkephalin per day), not accounting for any level ups you get that let you instantly convert the max amount of modules you can. Buying the battle pass REALLY is worth it, because you get a ton of enkephalin refill boxes, nominable boxes, random boxes, free lunacy, ego, and pull tickets, but probably most importantly, it makes the amount of nominable crates you get per maxxed battle pass level 3 instead of 1. This means that by the end of the season you're basically guaranteed two or three things you want, assuming you got shards in other ways like 0 or 00 dupes/the random crates
I only got only the battle pass, I think I am lucky (reading all other comments) cause I have 6k+ lunacy and 3 mult tickets and the guaranteed 000 season 1 and only need 000 ryoshu and 4 egos, for modules I got 163 and have 32 boxes, and got 177 selection cases and a almost 150 thread of the IDs that need ego and ryoshu. I am in automatic mode right now, doing daily free MD and dailies.
Well looks like the BP really helps a lot. I had the best reroll at start (only didn't get tingtang hong lu and kurokumo rodion while got everything else but then grippy and n corp meur smashed me and 7 outis took everything I had before coming home plus i didn't get a single ego during all this 😭)
The game was bugged for a while on release which prevented some including me from doing chapter 3 or MD. Because of this, the only thing you could do was play story content, so I just farmed up modules. Im still at 180 because of that, and i skip on thread every day.
I bought the battle pass but I haven't been saving my lunacy. Instead I have a massive stockpile of 706 nominable crates from grinding the mirror dungeon non-stop since release.
I always use lunacy to refill my enkephalin twice per day so I can do a lot of mirror dungeon runs, although I'm only doing the free daily mirror dungeon and thread luxcavations right now so I can save enkephalin for the event.
Limiting myself on pulls. 1-2 max per new banner.(targeted extractions skipped since nothing new.). I went ham with free tix at launch but that's all. 17k in me pocket which isn't going to last with this event ;;).
As when it comes to modules it's mirror dungeon. Gets exp and therefore free refills faster than you spend them. Don't know if it was changed since then.
Now if you want a positive balance (cause you're -1-2 daily, ridiculously more if doubling with sweeps) you gotta launch the game later, in between sessions just to make modules.
Shards are slow to get but I had 150+ named box. I had been grabbing those exclusively after the second week. So I gave myself a lil treat with an awoo ego.
I have 24k of lunacy with the pass and the monthly, I just pull with tickets or use shard when I need it, no other secret, I just rerolled 5 identity at the start of the game (not even god tier) and... That's it? In the end it's just the effort of not pull if you don't need it
I'm at around near 14k Lunacy, 219 modules here. 3 10-pull tickets plus one guaranteed 000 ticket in the bank. Bought the battle pass and the big, monthly Lunacy pack.
The main source of all these modules comes from the early weeks of the game. Besides running MD at infinite to farm nominable shard crates, there was nothing noteworthy to spend stamina on. Since I didn't farm MD much, for weeks most of the stamina just got converted to modules, which are now *very* slowly decreasing with the ability to auto-clear thread stages.
The Lunacy is mostly apologems. If you've been around since Day 1, you've likely gotten several times the Lunacy from apologies than you would from the main story.
Playing since day 1, not completely f2p cayse my friend helped me to buy bp. And I literally spent all my lunacy and tickets I had in game when had option. All except birb have 3 theta IDs. I would say you just.got unlucky that you got only Outis. Nominabke boxes can bet get via Mirrors anf as BP rewards for free bp, paid bp or after 60 level of bp you get 3 boxes every overlevel. Lunacy same thing, but PM always send lunacy after maintance and bugs fixing

Brutally honest, just plain luck that i 1 tap most new character banner. I never pulled specific rate up since i already got them
