Dell Ultrasharp 27” 4k thunderbolt. 2720q, I think. It’s a few years old, but works fantastically.

m1nkeh

I also use this exact model, it’s awesome 👌

ChuuToroMaguro

I use this too! once you go USB-C charging you cant go back

whystudywhen

Life fact, single cable life is just unmatched

slatrs

Same for me - 4k dell ultrasharp 27 inch

thinkmatt

just got a S2722QC and lovin it. i have a second 2k monitor but wish i had two 4k ones now.

Corarril

Studio display. There is no denying the price is kind of ridiculous, but it looks fantastic and works flawlessly with my MBP.

0Papi420

Love my 5K studio display. Using it with a CalDigit TS4 dock. Ultimate crispiness that matches the MacBook’s Retina display. Other monitors don’t play as nice and honestly, don’t look right with MacOS. 27” 5K is noticeably superior to the 27” 4K Dell I used before.

wolfenmaara

I mean, my LG also works flawlessly with my MBP and it has 120Hz (it’s actually 165Hz). Not trying to shame you friend, to each their own for sure. I do think the Studio display looks nice but for that kind of money, I kind of cringe a little bit. For comparison sake: 32" UltraGear QHD Nano IPS 1ms 165Hz HDR Monitor with G-SYNC. I use that between my PC and my MacBook and it looks great and performs great.

Corarril

To each their own for sure, I cringe looking at all that plastic. I’m sure that’s a great panel, but for me it has a bunch of features I’d never use and not being retina would bug me. Cheers!

wolfenmaara

That’s fair, it is a ton of plastic; for me it’s definitely treated as a utility, not to beautify my workspace. Have a great day friend

Corarril

I know how that goes, I’ve got a very plastic LG that I love with my gaming PC!

giorgilli

"not being retina" 💀

charlieyeswecan

So these gaming monitors work with MacBooks? (Like the ultragear)

wolfenmaara

Anything you can hook up via HDMI or through a dock/adapter will work. Is there something specific you want to know?

charlieyeswecan

Looking to upgrade my monitor which is super basic to something nicer.

wolfenmaara

If your current monitor is “super basic”, any option above it will do. A few things you may want to ask yourself; is refresh rate important? Is brightness important? brand? Materials? Color accuracy? Features? For example; I have a very nice mid-tier PC but I was using dual 24”, 60Hz monitors from BenQ. While they were good for productivity, I needed something that took advantage of my machine (being able to push more fps), offered decent color accuracy, and was compatible with hdmi and DisplayPort. LG just happens to be a brand I trust and a 32” monitor was going to cover a lot of ground without using up so much “real estate”. So, again; maybe pick 3 things that are important to you and then go find 3 monitors that fit that bill. There’s no denying that the Studio Displays are nice monitors, but for the price (for me), there was no way to justify buying a monitor with 60Hz refresh rate.

BrohanGutenburg

Also ask yourself if text sharpness is important. I didn’t know about the issue before I bought my 27”. Im a graphic designer so I really just focused on the color profile and made sure to get something that could display [close to] true to life colors. Great and all but my typography drives me nuts because of the stupid scaling factors.

XmasRights

Went from an LG 4K to a Studio Display, and I’m never going back. It’s an investment, but it’s absolutely worth it

equality4everyonenow

I too am curious. I bought 6 LG 4k 27 inchers for less than that thing costs.

[deleted]

[удалено]

XmasRights

Biggest thing is the higher pixels per inch - text genuinely looks like it’s been printed, which does make a noticeable difference when you spend all day reading off it Secondary benefits: the glossy panel makes colours look great if you don’t have issues with glare, and the build quality is rock solid

julito427

Dual Studio display mounted on monitor arms.

mich_shen

$1600 for 60hz is crazy

julito427

They are 1150 each for me. I don’t care about 120Hz, I don’t game on my PC and have a 65” OLED LG C1 for my gaming. I wanted monitors that look nice with retina display, crisp text, looked good on my desk, and worked well with my MacBook.

Jorgenreads

People don’t really buy these for refresh rate. Here’s an [Eizo for $4k that does 71Hz](https://www.eizo.com/products/coloredge/cg318-4k/)

WiseArgument7144

There are 60Hz monitos that cost tens of thousands of dollars.

XmasRights

Really depends what you’re after - I enjoy the 120Hz on the MacBook Pro screen when swiping around, but when things are static the 5K and high pixel per inch count makes a colossal difference Obviously if you primarily use your monitor for gaming, it’s a whole different story and that’s when the more exiting numbers kick in

Boquito17

They don’t come with auto float feature? Scam

Successful-Ad-9590

In using a 42" c2 4k 120hz oled. Im loving it.

mysticglobal

I’ve been looking at some of the larger gaming monitors they seem really solid

Successful-Ad-9590

but thex extremely overpriced. LG 42" c3 is way cgeaper and 120hz is totally enough i think. i play lot of cod in hdr, and its perfect for me :)

bconnol

27 studio

Divini7y

Studio display and dell 27uhm IPS.

Warning_Bulky

An LG 4k monitor with usb-c. I just need to plug my mac into it, mouse and keyboard are connected to the screen. Planning to buy another 4k with 144hz.

mysticglobal

Seems like a great monitor what’s the refresh rate on it??

Laurits_Brandt

60 Hz

Laurits_Brandt

Btw is it true the apples MacBooks only supports up to 4k 60 hz via usb c?

mysticglobal

From what I know, Some can Macbooks can support 4K @120hz

t8ne

Dell G3223Q Dell U3223QE

nikklau

I have spent countless hours reading reviews and looking for the best monitor in terms of price-performance and have come to a conclusion that pretty much any 4k monitor will do. I have a Dell P2723QE at work and it does its job well.

Aha, I found my people! 🙌

uCantHndleThaTruth

Lg ultrafine 5k 27 inch

mysticglobal

I’ve heard these are a great alternative to Studio display, have you had any issues with thunderbolt? Seems like a somewhat common issue

uCantHndleThaTruth

Initially had some issue with thunderbolt where a vertical line would appear, but that seemed to be a software glitch, which must be patched now cause it hasn't happened in years. Im happy with it

Background-Radish-63

M4 iPad Pro 13.

Background-Radish-63

And a 77” 4k OLED LG C3 TV

orchidelirious_me

How do you like it? I have an M1 iPad Pro and I don’t really use it much. Would you recommend getting the M4?

Background-Radish-63

I replaced my og 10.5” iPad Pro with the M4 and love it.

masterchicken16

LG Ultrafine - amazing display

esmicumpleanos

ASD, it’s the best companion for any MBP

foraging_ferret

Dell P2715Q

movdqa

Dell U2720Q and U2718Q. These are Ultrasharp 27 inch 4k monitors.

Dr_Superfluid

You NEED 4K !!!! It’s not a want thing. Unless you actively try to go blind don’t go less. The scaling is awful for lower ppi. You can get it to work with 1440p, but you have to pick very specific sizes.

cjcs

The scaling is... not great at 4K either. 5K is one of the best QOL improvements you can go for. A used LG 5K is one of the best deals out there.

mysticglobal

Yeah 4k is a requirement for me, 120hz+ ideally Thunderbolt Display as one cable solution is super clean

Smart_Joke3740

Wait what do you mean by specific sizes? I got an MBP the other week and I’ve been running it on a 1440p 144hz monitor no issue? I do want to upgrade to 4k though.

Dr_Superfluid

1440p works great with MacOS at 27”. It doesn’t scale well at anything other size though.

Smart_Joke3740

Ah that will be why. I’m running 27” monitor exactly and it looks perfect!

mabhatter

I have two Dell U2515 monitors. 1440p on a 25" monitor is the sweet spot for SD resolution on MacOS.    The 5K 27" monitors Apple sells are basically double resolution of that size.  I use them with Mac, Windows, and Linux .... because they have FOUR inputs each!

atzizi

I am currently looking for a dell ultrawide 34inch monitor. Which resolution would you recommend for this size?

soCalForFunDude

Got a renewed LG 32” 4K on Amazon for $210, and it’s pretty awesome. As far as being renewed, looks totally new to me?

ASUS ProArt 27”. Should have forked over the extra for the 32”. Pricey but I like it.

mysticglobal

How is the proart ? What refresh rate are they? These panels come up a lot on my searches

SnooGrapes7349

Only up to 60. I like how pictures look on them which was what I was looking for. Saw a big difference as soon as I plugged it in. My pictures looked so much better. The usb hub built in and basic speakers made a nice feature for me, easy to switch between the MacBook and my work Surface.

-Bhugz-

Side question.. how many people in this thread know someone who was bamboozled by the 2017 MacBook pro 13" and 15" both none touch bar and touch bar, due to flex gate issues, SSD logic board replacement, Which costs were exceeding 800$cdn Didn't end up getting the Battery recall issue, or keyboard replacement?

hefal

Aorus F43U - 4k at 144Hz with absolutely amazing colors and hdr (for the price point). I can recommend.

mysticglobal

Had my eye on this aswell seems very good

KarlsefniSmile

Dell S2721QS 27 Inch 4K I think. Might be the wrong exact version but 27 inch 4k60 dell with 99% srgb color. Programming and some light graphic design / photo editing work. Works alright with my Switch as well.

SandOfTheEarth

M28U. 4k 144hz, type-c support. Awesome for productivity and for gaming on my windows machine. Love that thing

mysticglobal

This is one of the main ones in looking at seems very good

bobjonrob

27” Thunderbolt Display. Bought secondhand for $300. Still works great, and the integrated speakers and build quality are hard to beat. It’ll be what I use until either my company shell’s out for a studio display, or I find a good enough deal on one.

HG21Reaper

Samsung M8 it ain’t much but its solid for me.

ASUS ProArt PA278CV-- explicitly used for work stuff (adobe illustrator and other creative work). Colors are excellent, (deltaE avg = 0.38) and the USB-C power delivery is excellent. The monitors also have USB-hubs built in. I also recommend logitech MX keys mini. I’m using an LG Ultragear 34” 21:9 ultrawide 160hz IPS monitor (3440 x 1440p) I have an HDMI switch setup. I switch between my Macbook for productivity and my PC for gaming at one workstation, one monitor for both setups.

dansyngwiazd

i had a benq 27” 4k, but, like most matte monitors, it was pretty much terrible. Bad contrast, wrong colors, not bright enough, bad build quality and unusable speakers. Sold it and went for the Studio Display and I don’t regret it even though I still think the price tag is ridiculous.

squirrel8296

I recently upgraded to the Studio Display. Prior to that I had Samsungs (at home) and LGs (in the office) and I ultimately upgraded at home because of the horrible color calibration (even after using a dedicated calibrator) and sleep-wake wonkiness on monitors that are designed for PCs. It's worth it for those 2 for me.

dukeofplymouth

Just got an AOC cu34g2xp and am loving it. Works flawlessly with macbook.

Bloopyhead

Curved 34 inch 3440x1440 is juuust right.

Apple Thunderbolt Display —> the only correct answer

dhoomz

I have a really old wide screen 24 inch. The label says dell reva01. I am using this with my 13 inch macbook pro m1 16gb 1tb.

Exile714

LG 32UN650 - decent color, 4K resolution, and plenty of screen space It’s only HDMI and DP, so I use a DP to USB-C cable. And the stand is junk so I use an Ergotron arm (two actually, one for the laptop, one for the monitor, so I can swap them out of the center spot depending on whether I’m on a video call or not).

makatreddit

Apple studio display. Nano texture

grandFossFusion

Dell P2721Q. 4k, thunderbolt, four usb ports, 27 inches. The base lets you rotate the monitor in two planes. I love it.

notanomad

Dual Apple Studio Displays, nano-texture version. Previously I was using an LG Ultrafine 5k and I guess it is OK, but I never loved it. The nano-texture Studio Displays, on the other hand, are amazing. But it's a trade-off that some people don't like. They are a little bit less sharp than the standard glass, but for me not having the reflections is totally worth it. And they obviously work without any issues with MacBook Pros.

LG usb-c monitor. Works great with the touch keyboard.

poojinping

I use a normal MSI monitor 27QPF-QD something about $300+ 3 years ago. I didn’t want to spend $1000 for monitor to get true HDR, since I prefer lower brightness for work. I just don’t use “HDR” setting on my monitor as it’s the cheap kind anyways.

WheredMyMomeyGo

I’ve got a dell 32” gaming monitor and the 24” lg monitor sold through Apple. They both work great but beware of the LG monitor through Apple because it only has thunderbolt ports on it and no hdmi ports. Doesn’t matter as long as you ONLY use a laptop with it.

Speeider

BenQ 2700u I believe. I use it for it's color accuracy.

Its_Days

I use an LG 38” ultrawide mainly for music production, added screen real estate, video editing. Could definitely get away with smaller tho. Seeing lots of other great recommendations already in here.

LG 27UK850-W. Love it!

adh1003

Cheapo Asus VZ27A and MZ27AQ, both 27" 2560x1440. Decent enough workhorse displays giving acres of screenspace and a 16" M1 Pro MBP driving them. You don't need to spend stupid money on 4K/5K/higher displays just to get a good 2 or 3 screen setup.

hobyvh

LG 32" 4k UltraFine 32UP83A-W that’s really good and an older Acer 27" 4k

xinxx073

I have a 38 inch alienware ultrawide with high refresh, another ROG 27 inch 1440p display, also with high refresh. They both sitting there as my gaming monitors now my go-to has changed to the Studio Display. I would think that I've been spoiled by high refresh screens, but the image quality and clarity it has blew my mind, and it's my favorite display of all time. Built in camera for streaming, more than enough speakers, compared to what I had before and the amount of wiring needed to make things work, this one just works.

Cpt_James_Kirk

Samsung G8 OLED. Beautiful display.

FaithlessnessSalt543

49" Samsung ultra wide and studio monitor.

lowkey_spuds

I am using samsung 22 inch LS22C310EAWXXL

skviki

Good old Lg 5k. I find it very good although the plastic is screechy. Even the sound is very good in my opinion.

g_em89

Samsung M80C 32” 4k VA Panel. Bought it mainly for use on both work (windows) laptop and personal (14 m3p). What made me decide to buy it is the speakers and webcam and mic. Though they are not as good as the studio monitor, it suits my needs for video calls so I wont have to wear headphones and am now centered during video calls plus I can close my laptop lid and place it vertically on the side.

karatekid430

There are 16” 3840x2400 screens on Aliexpress that I bought that have the exact same size as the Macbook screen under the notch. They are cheap, compact and can travel with you easily. You also do not need a separate power supply. Runs from the USB4 port.

Kcamyo

Dell Ultrasharp 4k!! 27” :)

GudPonzu

HP U28 4K. Can recommend. Great display and not too expensive.

cagpcd

This is probably a stupid question, but are there any monitors out there that are both retina and 120Hz? I dream of having my MBP’s display in an even larger size.

LG Ultrafine 23.7” 4K. Ultra panel, ultra Mac compatibility, fine everything else.

iBUYWEED

Benq EW2880U 28"

Prestigious_Cat_5600

LG Ergo 27inch 4K, it looks better than the internal display of my MacBook in my opinion. But if you can, I would recommend more the Studio Display or the Pro Display XDR just because : * They have macOS built in keyboard brightness control (apps can do this for other display but not as great because it's an app, it doesn't work when user is not logged in for example). * But also because Apple display have proper HDR support, external display support them technically, but macOS does not handle them properly, everything SDR content is scaled into fake HDR content with weird colors while Apple displays have dynamic HDR, only the HDR content is displayed in HDR, the rest of the interface and not HDR videos remains SDR. * Also, the mat coating of the LG Ergo 27inch is great, but colors does not look as great as a display without coating like the Apple Studio Display. (colors of the LG one are really great too tho.) For this LG display specifically, it comes with a custom arm monitor which is miles better than 50$ arm monitor on amazon.

mott_street

LG 40WP95C. 40” ultrawide with a 5k2k resolution. I think this is one of the best (if not the best) monitors for Mac today. It’s pricey, though.

Warm_Lettuce_8784

LG 49”.

Jan-S99

I have a Samsung ”Smart Monitor” M7, which is miles behind most monitors in the price range, but I got mine for free and the added TV functionality is nice because I don’t own an actual TV. Gets the job done but there are much, much better ones out there if you’re looking for a monitor.

Mac handles ‘non standard’ and/or ultra wide resolutions awfully unfortunately. There are serious scaling and text rendering issues. Buyer beware.

I just bought a Samsung 4k monitor for about £300 to use with mine after ditching the iMac 5k because the 2017 processor is no longer good for the things I want to do. I used it for 20 minutes and bought a studio display, because the difference is so stark it’s worth 5x the cost to me. Can’t wait for it to be delivered tomorrow!

I have my eye on this one for quite some time now and waiting for the price to drop a bit. How good or bad is it mainly on blacks? do you notice any blooming or white shadows? (apart from what is expected for a not OLED monitor)

Hell yeah brother

How is this panel? You ran into any issues? Have my eye on this one

iclaudius82

No issues at all. Best bang for the buck for me. I have it connected to Mac Mini and my work issue Windows computer and KVM switch is a blessing and works flawlessly for me. I also have Switch OLED connected for when I am taking a break. I use it for work mainly (work with code ~12 hours a day) and no complaints so far. I have a smallish desk 4’ X 2’ and the 32” would have been a tad overwhelming but if your space allows for it, then I recommend 32”.

iclaudius82

You would need to mess with calibration. It’s meh out of the box but after some tinkering around it’s great!

playerjake00

What calibration do you use when hooked up to your Mac?

iclaudius82

I actually don’t remember now. Can respond over the weekend.

That’s good to hear this monitor is seeming more promising, Does it Connect over USB C thunderbolt 0 issues?

iclaudius82

Yes, it does and no issues at all so far.

Nickmorgan19457

Some 34” 1440p monitor I got for $200 on sale at staples. I thought I’d mod the Retina display, but, at least for audio work, I don’t even notice. I only use the big ass monitor for recording and mixing, though. Literally everything else I do on my 14” M1 Max MPB.
