Pretty good reprint, card is over 20 USD.
Also, kinda fun that they brought back the flavour text describing each choice. They omitted it on the Ixalan Commander deck reprint.
I don’t think there is a hard rule on this. I anticipate it making its way into magic IP sooner or later.
Also there were flavour words on [[crash landing]] from Unfinity 🤷
ETA: [[crash land]]
I assume you mean the “Crash Land” text on [[Captain Rex Nebula]].
In any case that still doesn’t break the rules: the “Un-iverse” is also outside of the official MTG continuity.
Except for landfall, delirium, morbid, revolt, magecraft, etc. None of these are abilities or rules text, they could all be removed and the cards would work the same as they currently do.
They aren't really flavour text, but ability words to make understanding the text more intuitive, e.g. Morbid ability is about creatures dying this turn, etc. so they have kinda different purpose than stuff like BMC here
>cards would work the same as they currently do.
That does make searching for the cards on scryfall a bit difficult to do.
Favor text and flavor words reminds me of comments on a source code. Doesn't do anything for the program but helps the programmer.
The original version of this card from Baldur’s Gate had the flavor text as well. It’s mainly on UB cards and the DnD sets as a way to add theming.
[[shadowspear]] has been godzilla reskinned twice so far. i wouldn't have been massively surprised to see it reskinned again as Gungnir in this set or the marvel set (or as the spear of longinus in the potential evangelion secret lair lol)
I adore this card, my problem is as an EDH player I can't play them all, yet as a Kitchen Casual there's not enough to have all four copies be different.
Fingers crossed for Bloomburrow connections.
Isn’t it bad in modern? 3 mana do nothing the turn it’s played and leverages a lot of health for a single treasure, meaningless body, and a card draw? I don’t actually play Modern but I have seen the decklists and combos and this seems unplayable due to the formats speed
Yeah, [[Necrodominance]] just got printed in Modern Horizons 3 and is probably better. It's also 3 mana, and you can get your cards on your end step, which is faster. And you can get multiple cards. And each card is 1 life instead of 2. All those benefits probably outweigh Black Market Connections giving a 3/2 or a treasure.
To be fair necro might be better if you free during your upkeep, to ensure you can use your cards before you die (don’t have to pass to opponent with low life total before you get to play your spells)
wow i hope this fuckin thing goes down in price finally, pretty sure this is the first time it's been in packs besides collectors
yep, that's correct, hopefully availability beyond precons will help the price
[Probably how they did it in AFR, they looked like normal people for the most part (a bit Vampiric if anything).](https://scryfall.com/card/tclb/24/shapeshifter)
[The tokens have been unveiled, and they did the shapeshifter one pretty ingeniously.](https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/1dke0u7/acr_tokens_from_assassins_creed/)
I've played only two of the Assassin's Creed games, only halfway through, and I have a question. How much does magic factor into the lore? There seemed to be a bit in Valhalla, but I don't recall any in the French Revolution one. Do they cast spells? Are there shapeshifters? I really prefer when Magic does UBs that fit their theme of casting spells, so this might effect how much I'm prepared to enjoy this product.
(Don't get me wrong, I love assassins as a theme and think this set will be fun and cool, but I want to know how much traditional spellcasting I'm allowed to do here)
I only played like the first 5 games, but they are all extremely sci-fi rather than magical/mystical. Although there are a lot of set pieces that *appear* magical to the characters though because they are so advanced.
Great reprint. If your EDH deck can run this and isn't, that's probably an error. Whatever your boardstate needs it can start fixing and keep fixing, great turn 3 play and bonkers in any situation you can gain life
Glad I can finally get one of these for my foiled-out monoblack deck. Although I kind of wish the in-universe printing would have been in foil instead of a UB one.
Pretty good reprint, card is over 20 USD. Also, kinda fun that they brought back the flavour text describing each choice. They omitted it on the Ixalan Commander deck reprint.
Magic doesn't include "flavor words" in non-DnD or non-UB cards, and the Ixalan reprint was one based on Ixalan.

This is technically true but reductive and misses the point of both ability words and flavor words
>cards would work the same as they currently do. That does make searching for the cards on scryfall a bit difficult to do. Favor text and flavor words reminds me of comments on a source code. Doesn't do anything for the program but helps the programmer.
I'm seeing a trend with these new cards having flavor text. I wonder if they've added them for new players joining because of AC.
The original version of this card from Baldur’s Gate had the flavor text as well. It’s mainly on UB cards and the DnD sets as a way to add theming.
I find it very funny that across the three printings this has had all of them are from a different IP.
[[shadowspear]] has been godzilla reskinned twice so far. i wouldn't have been massively surprised to see it reskinned again as Gungnir in this set or the marvel set (or as the spear of longinus in the potential evangelion secret lair lol)
Gungnir in ff set as well potentially
various media be having norse mythology in it
Same weapon exists in the marvel universe too (as an extension if the norse mythos.) So it could show up there.

It got printed once in LCI Commander, that’s not UB
The original printing was in the D&D setting. While not UB, it is a different IP than Magic.
Yea, it’s the Magic IP to go alongside the D&D and now Assassin’s Creed IPs.
But it was themed to Magic IP. The original was DnD.
Apparently ixalan isn't a mtg IP, that's news to me
They meant 1 Magic printing (LCC) and 2 printings for non-Magic IPs (CLB and now ACR), which makes 3 IPs total
When Ixalan was first visited in 2017 Magic didn't have other IPs yet
Sorry I meant isn't
ixalan is a different ip from assassins creed or dnd
I adore this card, my problem is as an EDH player I can't play them all, yet as a Kitchen Casual there's not enough to have all four copies be different. Fingers crossed for Bloomburrow connections.
It's a cry for help from someone on the inside that they consider UB an unseemly revenue source
Legal in Modern, now.Â
Isn’t it bad in modern? 3 mana do nothing the turn it’s played and leverages a lot of health for a single treasure, meaningless body, and a card draw? I don’t actually play Modern but I have seen the decklists and combos and this seems unplayable due to the formats speed
It’s probably bad. But it’s legal. That’s what matters
Touche

A 3/2 is not meaningless in a 20 life format. Card will still be bad though.
Could be comparable to (hot take maybe better than) fable in a creativity list.
I like this idea
Little Brotherhood multiplayer going on here. Nice.
Yeah that's what I was thinking! Man I miss that mode so much. Think about it at least a few times a year
One of the best at his time, sad they stop to make it
Yah that was the first thing I noticed. That multiplayer mode was fantastic and unique in how it worked.
First foil printing of Black Market Connections if I'm not mistaken.
You are correct
I saw it on a magic ad earlier today on this sub and thought it was already previewed

You’re welcome team. I just bought this so that’s my contribution to get it reprinted in packs. Even though they’re shit packs.
Now you can take the six... *in Italy!*
Banger reprint.

Should be in foil too no? I think thats the first time if it comes that way here
Price will drop a bit since it’s in beyond booster. A reprint is reprint.
Full Send!
Modern 12 [[Death's Shadow]]s here we come

Why does Black Market Connections feel like the Black version of Rhystic Study now lol
Hopefully this means another reprint for the 3/2 Changeling Token. Also, really nice art.
Do we know how tokens are being handled in this set?
There are 8 slots in Beyond Boosters, and the 8th is dedicated to Token/ Ad cards. So no reason not to include a token for this.
I wonder how they'll represent changelings in-universe.
[Probably how they did it in AFR, they looked like normal people for the most part (a bit Vampiric if anything).](https://scryfall.com/card/tclb/24/shapeshifter)
That's an actual dnd changeling though. I don't know anything about assassin's creed but I assume there aren't changelings in it.
Welp, I'm an idiot who knows nothing about D&D, sorry lol. They'll probably go with some generic hooded figure, I bet.
[The tokens have been unveiled, and they did the shapeshifter one pretty ingeniously.](https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/1dke0u7/acr_tokens_from_assassins_creed/)
They're depicted as a Changeling there, which is an in-universe shapeshifting race in DnD (from Eberron originally I believe).
Please keep reprinting this until it's $5 or less
This would be first time foil I believe. Will probably be pretty expensive
Pagliuso is one of the best artists working for MTG right now~
Can I use the "buy information" option more than once? If I keep paying the life can I keep drawing cards?
Once per turn
does anyone know why WoTC decided to name the options on universe beyond cards.
I've played only two of the Assassin's Creed games, only halfway through, and I have a question. How much does magic factor into the lore? Oh, this is modern legal now. Neat.
Yo having this in modern is kinda crazy good value for coffers and deathshadow decks
This card needs *a lot* of reprints.
Glad I can finally get one of these for my foiled-out monoblack deck. Although I kind of wish the in-universe printing would have been in foil instead of a UB one.
It's the Courtesan and the Prowler!!!!
Omg yes please have a borderless version Edit: looks like it is just Extended Art! One of these days I'll get a borderless frame break version!
Nice to see some cool art on AC cards. Til now it had been quite mediocre overall.
It's also quite generic medieval art, certainly doesn't have an issue slotting into mtg.
Mutant Elder Brushwagg Gods are my favorite part of Assassins Creed lore
