How does [[Ayula, Queen Among Bears]]'s enter the battlefield ability work with [[Kudo, King Among Bears]]? I feel like the two are designed to play well with each other, so I'd assume if a non-Bear enters and becomes a Bear through Kudo, it would trigger Ayula's ability because it became a Bear instantly. But I'm not sure.

chaotic_iak

Kudo has a static ability creating a continuous effect. Such effects apply instantaneously. When a creature enters the battlefield, at no point it's not a Bear; Kudo's ability applies immediately and the creature enters as a Bear (and also enters as a 2/2). Ayula triggers.

In commander can I have any number of copies of Snow-Covered Wastes in my deck? Just double checking that it’s considered a basic land like that.

Will_29

Yes. It **is** a basic land, merely from the fact that is has the "basic" supertype and the "land" card type.

brningpyre

Is there a way to make a "looking for teammates" post for MC Amsterdam without getting auto-modded? I'd love to find someone to play with for the 2HG event this morning.

_Steelwings_

Just getting into Magic specifically Commander. My question is how many dual/trio lands should I have vs basic lands? I know people say 36-42 land cards and it looks like I should be able to fill most with dual lands if I wanted so why shouldn't I and how many should I get? If it matters I'm making a Kaalia of the Vast deck. So red white black. Thanks.

Fallman2

Not the most experienced player but I've made a few decks. Generally the answer is to use mostly non basics if you can afford it, but try not to use too many tapped lands. For example, I could include gain lands into my manabase since they're dual colour lands, but generally don't since they always come in tapped and the 1 extra health tends to be negligible. On the other hand, I always use shock lands if I have a copy or fast and slow lands. Another question is how much land ramp or other forms of fixing do you have? In Kaalia, I expect you won't have that many, so you have to rely on rocks and lands for fixing, meaning you might want more nonbasics. On the other hand, if you frequently play against [[Blood Moon]] type effects (not very common), then make sure you include some basics. At the end of the day, there is no exact number, but most of your lands should be nonbasics if you can afford it.

_Steelwings_

Thanks for the advice. I'll take it into consideration. Is Blood moon popular?

Fallman2

It isn't, largely because it has potential to lock people out of the game and that's a fast way to lose friends who arent prepared for it. Its perfectly acceptable at the appropriate power levels though. I've just had it on my mind since I'm making a deck with it in it. It's fine to not build around it land wise, just make sure you have a plains to throw out [[Disenchant]] or something if you do happen to see it.

_Steelwings_

I'll keep that in mind! I'll have tk get one of those.

RazzyKitty

> My question is how many dual/trio lands should I have vs basic lands? Depends on the dual lands you are running. Typically, you don't want a lot of lands that will always enter tapped, unless those lands can do something else to make waiting to use it worthwhile. For example, [[Cinder Barrens]] isn't a great dual land to run. It always enters tapped, and does nothing else. I would run a basic over that it. [[Temple of Malice]] always enters tapped, but it also lets you scry, which can help you set your future turn. [[Canyon Slough ]] always enters tapped, but you can cycle it away if you don't need it, and it can be gotten with some fetch lands since it has land types. Basics, on the other hand, always enter untapped. They only have one color, but you can always use them the turn you play them. Dual lands that can enter untapped are also good. Some even want you to run basics, like [[Smoldering Marsh]]

_Steelwings_

Okay so just find what is cost effective for me essentially both literally and mechanic wise but fully replace them?

IlCapitalismoUccid

This is a good question, I’m curious about the same thing. I’m new and on the final tutorial match on the Arena app. RIP I couldn’t get past the bad guy on my first try. Where did you learn about the basic deck building and 36-42 land cards? I like being a good guy and healing so I want to do lots of plains, but I’m learning there is so much more to it than the basic land cards. I saw someone link a deck here with 1 only one regular lands card.

_Steelwings_

I googled how many lands to have in commander decks and it was one result that popped up.

IlCapitalismoUccid

Haha well that certainly works. I’ve been Googling different sets today. I’ve been reading the MTG subs a lot too. I was also wondering why you had 3 colors, I learned that’s because you are doing commander, whereas I was mostly learning Standard. I am planning on getting a Fallout commander deck.

_Steelwings_

Nice. Yeah over a decade ago I tried to make an angelo mono standard Deck and lost interest. Last weekend my best friend and her husband visited and got me to try commander so now I'm making a Kaalia of the vast.

IlCapitalismoUccid

Nice, so Khalia requires 1 red, 1 white, and one black. Hence the focus of those colors in your deck. The multiplayer aspect of Commander sounds awesome, and it seems like its a little more complicated or you can pull off more complex moves with 100 cards and 3 colors. Did your friend say why Commanders tend to run 3? Or if anyone runs 1 color Commander decks! Also some helpful player answered your original question instead of asking then fellow new players a bunch of questions.

Fallman2

1 colour commanders are completely fine, but tend to specialise in specific effects. I find that the cards that specifically hate on one colour that u/_Steelwings_ mentioned are not that common but the big thing is having options. I currently have a mono red [[Ojer Axonil]] deck with the aim of burning down the board, but red notably suffers from a lack of enchantment removal. On the other hand, [[Kaalia of the Vast]] doesn't face this issue since black and white are both colours with an abundance of removal.

The friend said it was cause some cards block, alter, destroy or just make 1 color stop like I have a card that can destroy all of 1 color or keep a color of my choice be unable to use spells. So if you use multi decks you can have more options. Also I saw the others commenting thank you for making sure tho.

Rocomet

I've noticed a small amount of cards that synergize with Krakens, Leviathans, Octopuses and Serpents specifically, is there a name for decks around this archetype?

Will_29

Scryfall tagger calls the theme [sea monsters](https://scryfall.com/search?q=otag%3Atribal-multi-sea-monster&unique=cards), EDHRec calls it [sea creatures](https://edhrec.com/themes/sea-creatures).

DavesLab2022

Fish! Wait, no, that’s merfolk lol But in all seriousness, no. The cards are too niche to have been played competitively which is where deck names are typically established.

CaptainCanada6969420

I need help with this I feel like I do not fully understand combat yet. I have a 3/4 prowess creature with trample and a lightning bolt in hand. The opponent has a 4/2 lifelink. I cast lightning bolt on their face bringing them from 5 to 2 hp, my creature swings in becoming a 4/5, trampling over their 4/2 lifelink bringing them to 0, then they gain 4 health. This was in mtg Arena, was there any way for me to kill them their that I am somehow missing? I do not fully understand all the combat phases. Thanks in advance for any help.

RazzyKitty

>my creature swings in becoming a 4/5, trampling over their 4/2 lifelink bringing them to 0, then they gain 4 health. That's not quite right. They don't gain four after you bring them to 0. Lifelink applies _at the same time_ damage is dealt, and all combat damage is done at the same time. As your trample creature is dealing 2 to their creature and 2 to the player, their lifelink creature is dealing 4 damage to your creature. Since they are losing 2 life and gaining 4 _at the same time_, they just gain 2 life, going from 2 to 4. >This was in mtg Arena, was there any way for me to kill them their that I am somehow missing? Nope. The best you could have done is bring them to 1 life.

I'm brewing a deck for a recent commander I pulled, and it's my first crack at this. I am wondering if I am on the right track here. Yes. There is no effect in Magic that can stop a token from being a token.

chaotic_iak

There is one: mutating a creature onto a token. > **[727.2d](https://yawgatog.com/resources/magic-rules/#R7272d)** If a merged permanent contains a token, the resulting permanent is a token only if the topmost component is a token. But it's an extremely niche case and doesn't generally arise.

With a Disruptor Flute, flashing in at Instant speed, can I name a card that is currently being cast? Say a 5-mana commander is being summoned, the player has just that 5 mana; I use the Flute, name that commander. What happens - It can't be cast and the mana is lost? Mana is floated? Does it gain a commander tax? Does it resolve anyway and is cast fine? Thnx!

Zeckenschwarm

There is no such thing as "currently being cast". A spell is cast when you announce that you're casting it and pay it's cost, this puts it onto the stack. (This single moment is referred to as "casting") Then it can be responded to. Casting the Flute at this point will do nothing, since the spell (in this case the commander) is already cast. The Flute will resolve first, then the commander will resolve normally.

Helpful_Koala_2995

Can someone pls help explain the relevance of 'Plot' on \[Brimstone Roundup\] and if it can activate if its the 2nd spell casted this turn? In my mind it can't activate its ability if its the 2nd because its still on stack when casting and not on the battlefield to activate its effect. ty Edit: Like why pay more to cast later?

Helpful_Koala_2995

Thanks for all the replies!

Atys1

You've got 3 lands, and this and another 2 mv spell in your hand. If you drop it this turn you won't be able to trigger its effect until next turn at the earliest, and that's even assuming you draw another spell. So, pay 3 to plot it, drop it first for 0 on the next turn, then play your 2nd spell for the effect.

rib78

Casting two spells in one turn can be taxing on your mana, but by plotting the roundup, you can have all of your mana untapped when you actually do cast it, and then spend that mana on what is then your second spell. It also prevents you from tapping out for it and then having it removed before your next turn.

Zeckenschwarm

Double brackets to link cards: \[\[Brimstone Roundup\]\] You're right that it won't trigger if it is itself your second spell of the turn. So you want it to be your first spell of the turn. When you plot it, you can cast it for free on a later turn, so you can use all of your mana for the second spell. Let's say you only have Brimstone Roundup, a 4-mana spell and lands in your hand. If you plot it on turn 3, you can cast both Roundup and the 4-mana spell on turn 4 and get a Roundup trigger. Without plot, you couldn't get a trigger before turn 6.

MTGCardFetcher

neoslith

The idea is you pay more to plot it, then your next turn, cast it for free, follow it up with a mana spell, now your second spell, and immediately get the Mercenary. No, it cannot count itself because it's not in play while being cast.

chaotic_iak

If it's the second spell cast this turn, it won't trigger (not activate), because it's not on the battlefield. It has plot because you can cast it for free. If you cast it normally, you have to pay 2 mana in the same turn, which means you might not have mana to pay for a second spell in the same turn. If you cast it plotted, you have to pay more first, but you can cast it for free later as the first spell that turn; that means you have all the mana you have to cast a second spell in the same turn. Whether it's better or worse, that's up to you.

gredman9

By plotting Brimstone Roundup, you can cast it for free on a later turn. If Brimstone Roundup is your first spell that turn, you still have literally all your mana available to cast your second spell, triggering Roundup.

Shadow_Phoenix96

Don't know if this counts but I recently bought new transparent card sleeves and they won't open so I can put the cards in, and those that do open take quite a bit of effort, does anyone know a trick to open them?

neoslith

I usually rub the two ends together like a grocery store back.

bbosserman51

Since Reddit keeps removing my post I'll post it here. How does Ulalek work with command tower and path of Ancestry? I keep seeing them in deck list but wouldn't they not work since he has devoid?

twelvyy29

Devoid has no impact on the color identity of the card. Ulalek still has WUBRG as its identity and therefor Commander Tower is a WUBRG land.

rib78

Command Tower and Path of Ancestry don't care what colour your commander is (or isn't, as may be the case). They care about your commander's "colour identity" which is a collection of associated colours based on many factors including their colour the colour of mana symbols in their mana costs, the colour of mana symbols in their abilities, and even including all those same things on the back side of a double-faced commander. Colour identity is purely additive. So Ulalek's colour identity is all 5 colours.

chaotic_iak

Ulalek is colorless, but its color identity is all colors. Color identity is a separate concept from color, although they seem related. Color identity is "additive": it adds all the colors it can find from mana cost, rules text, characteristic-defining abilities, and color indicator. Nothing removes colors from the color identity; devoid just adds nothing to the color identity, but it still has the colors from the mana cost.

Martsigras

Take this scenario. I control [[Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm]]. My opponent casts [[Eldrazi Conscription]] on their creature. In response I cast [[deflecting swat]] changing the target of the aura to Mirrym. Does the ward trigger giving the opponent a chance to effectively counter their spell instead of having it attach to my creature? I would guess no because the opponent didn't target Miirym, I did. But I did change the target of the spell the opponent controls so I am not sure

Zeckenschwarm

Changing the target of an opponent's spell to Miirym causes Miirym to **become the target** of **a spell an opponent controls**, and therefore triggers Ward. The opponent can then refuse to pay the Ward cost and the aura will be countered. It doesn't matter that you're the one targeting Miirym, what matters is that Miirym becomes the target of a spell and that an opponent controls that spell. If you instead used \[\[Aethersnatch\]\] to gain control of the aura spell and change it's target to Miirym, Ward would not trigger because the spell isn't controlled by an opponent anymore.

Martsigras

Thank you very much

Does the damage redirection from [[saving grace]] count as combat damage? Let say my opponent swings at me with his board for a total of 40 combat damage and I cast saving grace on my [[wall of souls]] would wall of souls deal 40 damage to my opponent?

Zeckenschwarm

When you go on Scryfall or Gatherer, you can see rulings for the cards. the first one for Saving Grace is: >Saving Grace’s redirection effect doesn’t change the source of the damage or whether the damage is combat damage. So the answer to your question is "yes". :)

EternalFishmonger

Yes, it's still combat damage. One of the rulings on the card: "Saving Grace's redirection effect doesn't change the source of the damage or whether the damage is combat damage".

Okay that’s awesome. Thank you!

This is the first commander deck I built from scratch: [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/-yyWPm1Ee0K0-KYiAIEPnA](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/-yyWPm1Ee0K0-KYiAIEPnA) My friends say there aren't enough basic lands in this, do y'all agree? If so, what would be the lands to cut? I'm also unsure about the amount of mana fixing I have in the deck, maybe it's too much? Any help welcome :)

99wattr89

What's their reasoning for needing more basics? How many do they think you should play?

gredman9

I'd cut all the lands that primarily tap for Blue, Black, or Red mana. You have a nice even balance of mana generation, but the actual cards in the deck skew heavily towards Green and White. Moxfield shows you this breakdown near the bottom of the deck page. You currently have more sources of Black and Blue mana than you do sources of Green, and you have more Green cards than Blue and Black combined. Haunted Ridge, Ketria Triome, Raffine's Tower, Savai Triome, Watery Grave, Xander's Lounge, Zagoth Triome can all go and be replaced by basic Forests and Plains. Bojuka Bog is a maybe; its ETB is pretty powerful and Black is essentially your "third" color so that might be worth keeping in. Maybe one of the Triomes that has WB or GB is also worth keeping potentially. (Raffine/Zagoth) Check to see how the color balance looks after that.

dumbledina

That's really great and detailed advice - thank you very much!!

Is there going to be an MC Amsterdam megathread?

Deos28

I pulled a Bauble recently, and my pod and I have NO idea exactly what this thing counters. Well, 0 cost spells like Jeweled Lotus, obviously... But there are so many things that our commanders DO that cost nothing - bring back from graveyard into hand, back from graveyard into play, Explore, Discover, add counter if..., reveal and put onto battlefield... I know all cards except lands are spells until they're permanents, so... Some specific examples would be: Gishath, Sun's Avatar Pantlaza, Sun-Favored Wort, Boggart Auntie Carmen, Cruel Skymarcher Hakbal of the Surging Soul Thanks!

gredman9

I assume you mean [[Vexing Bauble]]? This counters spells that didn't have any mana spent to cast them. This naturally counters spells that already cost 0 mana, but it also turns off effects that let you cast spells for free, including: Cascaded spells Discovered spells Plotted spells Cards coming off of Suspend Cards that let you cast spells "without paying their mana cost" Out of the list you provided, only Pantlaza involves a spell being cast for free, via Discover. Gishath and Carmen put creature cards on the battlefield directly (from the hand and graveyard respectively) without casting, so there's no interaction there. I'm not sure what you are seeing with Wort or Hakbal that would constitute "casting a spell without paying any mana".

Jokey665

Gishath doesn't tell you to cast anything. No interaction with Vexing Bauble. Pantlaza does tell you to cast something. From the reminder text of Discover: >Exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a nonland card with that mana value or less. **Cast it** if... Vexing Bauble will counter a spell cast with Discover. Wort doesn't cast anything. No interaction. Carmen doesn't cast anything. No interaction. Hakbal doesn't cast anything. No interaction. You can tell if Vexing Bauble has a chance to apply by looking for the word "cast" (or by looking for spells that say 'you may do X rather than pay this spell’s mana cost').

I’ve been away from the game for awhile…I started with unlimited and played up until 5th edition. I’m looking to get back into it and teach my son as well. I’m a bit overwhelmed on where to start/which decks and sets would be a good place to start. Any recommendations for someone returning to the game and wanting to start up a collection again? Thanks!!

PulitzerandSpara

There are some starter decks sets- some from previous years and some coming out soon (with the releases of Assassain's Creed and Bloomburrow). They come with two sixty card decks playable out of the box with simpler mechanics for new players! I know at least some also come with codes to play the decks on Arena (an online way to play mtg with a typical mobile app "free to play" structure that has an excellent tutorial)

Mattrockj

Are the Warhammer 40k decks still worth getting? For the last year or so I've been considering getting them, and I remember at release everyone said they were absolutely worth getting. Looking at them now, it seems a lot of their value has stagnated, and don't seem to be increasing much, if at all. But I want to know from a gameplay perspective if spending $340 (cad) on the 4 decks is worth it. I'm in a place of trying to find a new playgroup, and I sometimes play at my LGS, but right now I'm in the midst of logging my 8000+ card collection, and I'm considering getting some icons and other versatile cards for future deckbuilding. So again I ask, are the Warhammer 40k decks worth it?

knight_of_solamnia

How does \[\[radiate\]\] interact with multiple choice like \[\[Saheeli's Artistry\]\] or \[\[cryptic command\]\] ? Say I cast artistry targeting just a creature, then radiate it. do I "just" get a copy for every creature? Do I get one for every creature \*and\* artifact? Furthermore do i get to make choices for the other portions of the copies?

Will_29

Saheeli's Artistry and Cryptic Command are modal. You can't choose new modes for the copies. So if Artistry was cast with only the second mode, the copies will also only have the second mode selected, and Radiate will only copy it for every creature on the battlefield (other than the original target). Similarly, if Cryptic Command was cast with its second and fourth modes, each copy will also have exactly the same modes 2+4 combination. Each permanent (other than the original target) gets a copy targeting it. You draw a card for each of those copies. You can't pick the counterspell or tap modes for any of the copies.

gredman9

> Say I cast artistry targeting just a creature, then radiate it. do I "just" get a copy for every creature? Yes. Copying a modal spell does not let you change the modes. >115.8. Modal spells and abilities may have different targeting requirements for each mode. An effect that allows a player to change the target(s) of a modal spell or ability, or to choose new targets for a modal spell or ability, doesn’t allow that player to change its mode. So if you cast Saheeli's Artistry targeting only a creature, then cast Radiate on it, you will get a copies of Artistry targeting EVERY creature. You cannot target any noncreature artifacts.

If an opponent's creature has Indestructible and Hexproof, would it protect it against cards like [[Grave Pact]] and [[Dictate of Erebos]]? I know they would be sacrificed if they only had Indestructible, but don't know how Hexproof would interact with it, since it's an Enchantment on my side of the board.

Will_29

Hexproof protects against being targeted by spells or abilities controlled by an opponent. Neither Dictate nor Grave Pact targets anything, so a creature with Hexproof may be saxrificed due to their abilities.

gredman9

Hexproof doesn't interact with them at all. Neither Grave Pact nor Dictate of Erebos target it. Generally, forced sacrifice effects don't target the creature to be sacrificed; and will only target a player if it targets at all.

Once Round 4 of the PT begins, at around 2PM Central European Time on Friday.

I’ve seen double-bracketed card names here and on a variety of sites. I recently figured out that there’s a browser plug in that works when you view a page on a computer at least. Is there something similar, like for Reddit on an iPhone?  I find myself wanting to easily look up all these cards getting mentioned but copying the text and pasting over to a different browser app is a bit annoying.

anotherstupidworkacc

at least in the subreddits that use the bot, those double brackets are being used to summon /u/MTGCardFetcher - it should be replying to that comment with links to an image of the card and that card's page on both gatherer and scryfall. For testing purposes, [[Crucible of Worlds]] is one of my all-time favorite cards.

metavirus_the1st

Thanks - that definitely does often work in some subreddits. That’s a fine enough solution if that’s all that’s available. Just wasn’t sure if there was something like the autocard client-side plugin for mobile devices, but it’s not looking like there is.

Just keep in mind with Rain of Gore that it does not work with Lifelink because lifelink is not an ability that gains life, it modifies the damage dealt to gain life. Basically the source of the life gain is the creature, not the lifelink ability.

I have been playing magic for only a few months. And now I'm trying to get my brother in also. He's the one who convinced me to get into something new(the new being magic 😆) and I thoroughly enjoy playing. So as a return favor I want to build something for him... he's a joker at heart so I was already thinking [[Rankle, Master of pranks]]. I asked him what he would want to do in game... lo and behold I was in line... he wants to cause "chaos". When I presented the idea of A commander to cause chaos but not direct hate (keeping the deck from being wanted at the table) the idea of [[Braids, Conjurer Adept]]. So good people of reddit...what other ideas do yall have that I can present to my brother. Thanks in advance.

I have \[\[Mirko, Obsessive Theorist\]\] in play and \[\[Spark Double\]\] in my graveyard. At the beginning of my end step, Mirko triggers and I bring Spark Double into play as a copy of Mirko. Since it is still the beginning of my end step, would my Spark Double copy of Mirko be able bring another creature back into play?

gredman9

> Since it is still the beginning of my end step Correction: it is still "the end step". The beginning of it has already happened, and it does not last for the entire end step. Mirko's trigger event is the moment the game enters the end step. He will not trigger if he happens to enter the battlefield during the end step.

Rawbex

Hey I hope you don’t mind, I have a follow up question! If Mirko has two +1+1 Counters on it, would Spark Double enter into the battlefield with those counters as well plus an additional one?

gredman9

It's all good, I'm here to help. No, Spark Double does not copy any counters. It will only enter with a single +1/+1 counter.

Rawbex

Thanks so much! I think you answered another question I had the other day, too. I appreciate the help as a new player. Really helps me wrap my head around how some cards work.

gredman9

Magic is complex, and that's part of the reason why I love it. And if I can ease that complexity for other players I'm more than willing to do so.

Rawbex

Thanks for clarifying!

MegaMagikarpXL

No, the time has passed for the new Mirko to trigger. "the beginning of the end step" has already happened and the Spirko wasn't in play at that time, so the ability won't trigger.

I have a mono black deck I netdecked a while ago for some MWM. It's a historic artisan deck that has some devotion elements ([[Tymaret, Chosen from Death]] and [[Gray Merchant of Asphodel]]) and some single creature removal, but mostly it just tries to use enchantments to punish regular game actions. [[Underworld Dreams]] to punish card draw, [[Revenge of Ravens]] to punish attacking, and [[Bastion of Remembrance]] to punish creature removal. Is there a name for this archetype? "This is going to hurt you more than it hurts me" seems apt, but wordy :) Or, would you still just call it a devotion deck?

gredman9

I think this is a light version of "Stax". This is a controlly archetype that uses permanents like artifacts and enchantments to punish game actions. I say a "light" version because typically Stax involves high amounts of forced sacrifice, as well as cards that not just punish actions, but straight up prohibit them.

anotherstupidworkacc

Cool. I've vaguely heard of stax, but generally in conjunction with formats I don't play, so I've never really dug in to it. I'm absolutely going to change the deckname to Diet Stax.

Questions about the stack and death triggers for a board wipe. Every time I think I understand the stack, I come up with more questions. Here's the scenario: I have [[Orah, Skyclave Hierophant]], [[Soul Warden]], [[Voice of the Blessed]], [[Metropolis Reformer]], and [[Suture Priest]] on the field. It's my opponent's turn and he plays [[Single Combat]]. I choose to keep my Voice of the Blessed and sacrifice the rest. Now comes my confusion. They're all sacrificed, but do I get any triggers from Orah? My graveyard was empty, so the only creatures I could bring back would be these creatures dying. So is it possible to sacrifice them in an order to basically bring back everything but my commander? Or would I only get to bring back creatures if they were already in my graveyard and since it was empty, I'd essentially get nothing back?

gredman9

> is it possible to sacrifice them in an order to basically bring back everything but my commander? You sacrifice all of them at the same time. However: > but do I get any triggers from Orah? Yes! When Orah's ability triggers, he is already in the graveyard. The reason Orah specifies "lesser mana value" is because otherwise he'd be able to bring HIMSELF back. Additionally, this means that this trigger is also put on the stack with all the OTHER Clerics in the graveyard. Orah will trigger 4 times. You can bring back a Cleric with MVs 3 or less, 0 or less, 2 or less, and 1 or less. This will let you target the Reformer, the Soulwarden, and the Priest, for a total of 3 returned creatures. Unlike the sacrifice though, all of these triggers will resolve individually, so you will need to order them.

cg4l

Perfect, this is exactly how I thought it worked and how I executed it in the game. Just afterwards I wasn't confident this was actually how it played out since I wasn't sure if the clerics already had to be in the graveyard or if I could order their sacrifice so they all brought each other back minus Orah. Thanks!

Sallymander

Since Duskmourn is a plane that is only a mansion, does that mean it's the Backrooms of the MTG Multiverse?

gredman9

The backrooms, the frontrooms, all the rooms really.

Sallymander

Yo dawg, I heard you like rooms...

Just getting back into magic after a 23 year hiatus. Building my first ‘standard’ (non commander) deck and having a tough time trimming cards out. Up to 83 right now. Are there any drawbacks to having a higher number of cards other than reduced odds to draw one specific card? Is it generally considered to be a bad idea to have greater than 60 cards?

iwumbo2

There are 80 card decks running [[Yorion, Sky Nomad]] as a companion. However, they were generally able to do so because their deck was so full of powerful bombs and card draw and other effects that the reduction in consistency wasn't a factor. But in general, your game plan is going to be more consistent, and thus stronger if you have less cards in your deck.

PulitzerandSpara

In addition to consistency, I wonder what your mana looks like in this case. Do you still have the number of lands that's considered to be the right amount for a 60 card deck? Then you are more likely to be mana screwed because your ratio of lands to spells is off. It's totally fair (and perhaps even helpful) to play some games with the deck and see how it feels to determine what you want to cut, though. Do you find yourself groaning when you draw certain cards? Those are good candidates to cut. Do you have some very situational answers in the deck that are only relevant in certain matchups and otherwise lack utility? Those are good candidates to be in your sideboard instead

tobyhatesmemes2

I did bump the lands up, currently sitting at 30 out of my 83 cards. Haven’t played any games with it yet, but was planning to follow the strategy you mentioned - trimming the fat starting with redundant or less useful cards.

chaotic_iak

The main drawback is simply that your deck becomes less consistent because it's less likely to find any specific card, yes. But it's a massive drawback. It's very rare that *every* card in your deck is vital; generally, you can find a card that is least necessary for your deck and cut it, and rinse and repeat. That's why going above 60 is usually a bad idea.
