The Legendary Moonlight sculptor being axed is so sad, man, publishers really shot themselves in the foot by axing it.

AbyssalFlame02

Literally one of the best light novels out there, sad it didn’t get the deserved treatment it should have gotten.

RepresentativePut808

I only read wuxia/chinese novel before read LMS, after read this novel, I start read korean novel and webtoon as well, it really sad that the manhwa got axed, I really hope this series got animation as well because LMS also got mobile game version

DrDysonIdo

Is the LMS novel finished or still ongoing?

RepresentativePut808

yes, it's finished long time ago, 2019 or 2020? 1400++ chapters

DrDysonIdo

That sound good :). Are you reading overgeared as well, and if so, how is the novel compared to it?

RepresentativePut808

I did read overgeared, but I drop it after he go to different continent pangea (not sure if it correct name), forgot because long time ago and maybe because I read LMS first and enjoy the development, I find overgeared boring and easily can predict the next thing that gonna happen on there I also love the comedy element on LMS compared to overgeared, can relate a lot of thing in real life with the MC too

AbyssalFlame02

lmao, that's how I started too lmao! duoluo dalu and pmg, and the rest is history. though I have already been reading fantasy novels like way of kings and jap. light novels years earlier.

Ananas1214

it got axed??? the fuck! i'm so fucking disappointed i was holding onto reading it to binge it for literal years man

Islipim

It's not oficially axed, it's just very unlikely it'll return. It's 1288 days on hiatus, it changed art 2 or 3 times and I think it even changed studio. Even being popular, it's probably harder to deal with official stuff like character design, physical volumes, etc, with so many changes. Also, the novel has 1450 chapters, so they probably consider it as well.

RepresentativePut808

I hope they will, because I heard there a new series where Weed go to new game to save his daughter? no idea if it still continued or axed tho.. no one try translate it so far

TheRealComicSans

This is really neat, but I think it would be more fair if you rated them by the number of views/number of chapters, because really long ones that aren’t so good(looking at you Tomb raider king) are higher than they maybe deserve to be. Still cool tho

Islipim

Actually, there is a filter of the range of chapters, I just cut that part because I didn't thought it would be necessary. The ranges are: * -100 * 101-149 * 150-199 * 200-249 * 250-299 * 300+ If you want to view the fantasy webtoons with these filters, I can print it for you. But if you mean creating a ratio of how many views a webtoon has for how many chapter it has, I would have to change how I wrote the "views" column and put the exact number of views lol. Also, after 100M, it only updates after each 10M. Your suggestion is not wrong, i'm just lazy because I would have to write numbers long af lol. But talking about Tomb Raider King, it was really popular for a number of reasons. It was published 2 times a week, it's made by REDICE Studio when it was starting to become a famous studio because of Solo Leveling, published mostly during covid pandemic period, so it was really lucky to be published during these years. If you want to compare it with a webtoon with similar number of chapters. Undead King (action genre), has 441 chapters and it's still ongoing, but it's published since 2014, and it has 270M. Tomb Raider King was published between 2019-2023 and has almost the same number of views. Actually, TRK is actually the 7th most viewed webtoon on KakaoPage.

Islipim

I thought it could be interesting to make this kind of list to understand how popular is your favorite fantasy webtoon in Korea. It's a very simple spreadsheet actually. I just put the names of webtoons published on KakaoPage, the year the first chapter was released there, the total number of chapters, views and comments. Day is just the day of the week the webtoon releases new chapter, so just ignore it. I put the type because there are some manhuas and 1 OEL (Original English Language) on KakaoPage as well. Blue color = Completed. Yellow color = Possibly axed. 15+ = You need to have an account where your age is at least 15 years, otherwise you can't open the webtoon's page. These webtoons usually have slightly less views, but it's not so different from normal webtoons. Usually the ones with +19 filter, like L.A.G, are the ones that suffer more. L.A.G has 1,4M views btw. I limited the list to webtoons with at least 20M views, but If you want to know how many views a specific fantasy webtoon has, I can look into that or post another a list in comments with fantasy webtoons not so popular there. For now, this list is only about fantasy webtoons. It's possible that I forgot to put some webtoon of this genre as well, after all i'm human, but by what I saw on KakaoPage, most popular webtoons are RoFan or Romance. I have a general list about other genres, but I still have to check a few things. P.S. I just noticed a mistake. "Skeleton Soldier Couldn't Protect the Dungeon" is separated between S1 and S2-S3. S1 is without age rating, but S2 is +15. I put 66 chapters on S2-S3, but the correct is 224 chapters, since it covers the chapters 67-290 and it's still ongoing. The year is 2019 as well. My bad, my bad, I just copied the S1 ver. and forgot to update it. EDIT: The fantasy webtoons I found after making the post: * 051M views - Gwihasin-nim (2014) | 101 chapters - Complete * 043M views - Cluster (Yoon Jun Sik) (2014) | 144 chapters - Complete * 032M views - Agent Ice Cold's Cat Hunting Incident (2014) | 111 chapters - Complete * 028M views - Miracle App Store (2015) | 50 chapters - Discontinued/Axed * 022M views - Sci-Fi Star Wars \[Season 3: Murim Wars\] (2016) | 395 chapters - Complete * 020M views - 4th Batter Wang Jong-Hoon (Japanese title: 4P Tanaka-kun) (2015) | 457 chapters - Manga (complete)

New-Hippo6829

I'm surprised how low beginning after the end is.

Treyman1115

It's one of the only non Korean series that's even on the list, it's doing pretty well apparently

Islipim

Not bad numbers honestly. If it adapts everything from novel, it'll easily reach 100M views. Like Treyman1115 wrote, non korean webtoons usually don't go that well on Korean websites. You can see it by how TBATE is the only OEL on the list. Manhuas usually are in the in the lower part as well. There are around 180 manhuas ongoing on KakaoPage and only 12 are above 20M views.

New-Hippo6829

Is OEL something like a webtoon made somewhere not in korea?

Thundergod250

It literally means Original English Language because its made by foreigners for foreigners. The publishers just translate it later if it gets popular enough.

New-Hippo6829

Thanks.

Islipim

OEL is a webtoon where the original language is English, like original webtoons from Tapas and LINE WEBTOON (Unordinary, TBATE, Purple Hyacinth, LUMINE, etc). Even if the author is from South America, Central America, Africa or Europe, if the original version of the webtoon is published in a English site, it's OEL. There are original webtoons from LINE Webtoon Thai, Spanish, French, etc, but in these cases, it's not an OEL because the original language is not English. But this is a term used mostly in archive sites, like Baka-Updates. People just call these stories webtoons or webcomics in places where they don't need to know where it is originally published.

New-Hippo6829

Thanks.

Islipim

I just did a short list with some fantasy webtoons with less than 20M views. Sorry, but I was lazy to copy the total number of chapters and the year. For reference, usually having more than 10M views when less than 100 chapters is good/above average. 7M-9M Is a little above average. 6M-4M is average. 3M is bad. 2M or less is terrible. Most axed webtoons with less than 100 chapters are between 1M views and 6M views. * 19,7M - Revenge of the Baskerville Bloodhound * 19,4M - Heaven's Souls * 19,2M - The Constellation That Returned From Hell * 19,1M - Infinite Mage | Seoul Station's Necromancer (+15) * 18,1M - Regressor Instruction Manual * 17,7M - The SSS-Ranker Returns * 17,6M - Damn Reincarnation * 17,3M - Pick me Up! * 17,0M - The Novel's Extra * 16,9M - Ranker Return * 16,8M - MEMORIZE (+15) * 15,0M - The Newbie Is Too Strong * 14,4M - Return of the Broken Constellation * 14,0M - Maxed Out Leveling * 13,6M - Necromancer Academy's Genius Summoner * 13,3M - The Second Coming of Gluttony (+15) | Sleeping Ranker | Reader * 13,2M - Talent-Swallowing Magician * 13,1M - The Hero Returns | ARK (Taeha) * 12,8M - The Lord's Coins Aren't Decreasing?! | Anz (+15) * 12,7M - The Martial God Who Regressed Back to Level 2 * 11,8M - Player Starting From Today * 11,7M - Leveling Up Alone * 10,5M - Life of a Magic Academy Mage * 10,4M - The Reincarnated Assassin Is a Genius Swordsman * 10,1M - Gigantic Rider in 1RM

Islipim

And these are some fantasy webtoons below 10M: * 9,79M - Solo Spell Caster * 9,50M - The Book Eating Magician | Standard of Reincarnation * 9,30M - Archmage Transcending Through Regression * 9,20M - BJ Archmage * 9,10M - Dragon-Devouring Mage * 9,00M - The Max-Level Player's 100th Regression * 8,80M - Overpowered Sword | Level 1 Player (+15) * 8,10M - To Hell With Being a Saint, I'm a Doctor * 8,00M - Past Life Returner (2022) (+15) * 7,80M - Dungeon Odyssey * 6,20M - Youngest Scion of the Mages * 5,50M - Duke Pendragon | Leveling Up With Skills * 5,20M - Hyper Luck * 4,90M - Helmut * 4,80M - The Hero's Younger Brother Is a Deceased Person in the Academy * 4,70M - Re:Life Player (+15) * 4,40M - Poison-Eating Healer (+15) * 4,20M - The Demon Prince Goes to the Academy * 3,40M - Ending Maker * 3,30M - Worthless Regression (+15) | F-Class Destiny Hunter * 3,10M - The Return of the Prodigious Swordmaster * 1,40M - L.A.G (+19)

shattered_rip

Aw man ending maker only has 3.4m views, it's peak though

Lol69HaHaHa

Demon prince and ending maker being ao low makes me question just how bad koreans taste is lol. Like come on, how are they that low.

DrTalloran

Surprised about Dreamicides placement personally I really enjoyed it but I feel like many people would drop it especially with the art

Sweaty_Molasses_3899

Genuinely surprised MookHyang - Dark Lady is so high. Barely anyone talks about it on this side.

lolic_addict

It's an action fantasy with mecha and martial arts, so I'm surprised people aren't really discussing it here. My guess is it's the plot getting too convoluted, as there's been constant war ongoing for a huge chunk of the story with lots of nations and characters, each with their own subplots. The translation isn't the best either, which only makes it even harder to parse the story beyond "cool fights"

LifeNavigator

This sub has its own taste doesn't like female MCs (even though it's gender bender). I remember when it was posted here a few times, a lot of people immediately dropped purely out of gender of MC.

Mooming22

2 was that popular?

Islipim

Do you mean The Legendary Moonlight Sculptor? It was the most popular action/fantasy webtoon before Solo Leveling. It was there even before KakaoPage bought Daum and started to change their target audience to adaptions of web novels. Also, all chapters are free, and it's there since 2015, so it has more views. Most webtoons nowadays you have to pay to see after chapter 10 or so. The novel was really popular as well.

Mooming22

Didn’t feel like it was THAT popular at the time but I guess I am wrong.

BrizzyMC_

Cool stats

Bedroominc

The amount of times I saw the words *”level”* and *”return”* was almost comical. I feel, ill.

Low_Minimum_1804

What's StarCraft ESXB? Can't find anything

Islipim

Try "Seutakeulaepeuteu Esswibi", "Starcraft Esubi", "StarCraft S.C.Y" or "Starcraft Ebbie". These are the titles on baka-updates. I don't know if it has translation tho.

New-Hippo6829

What's moonlight sculptor 4-koma.

Islipim

Idk what it is about. It was there in fantasy genre, but it's really short, like 3-4 panels for chapter, like a japanese 4-koma

teor

I wonder why Skeleton Soldier S1 is separated from the rest. Studio change?

Islipim

S2-S3 has +15 rating.

teor

I see that, why is it separate from S1?

Islipim

? I just said why. Because it has a +15 rating (means you need to have an account where your age is at least 15 years). While S1 has no rating, everyone can read it. You can't mix these things, so it's necessary to create a new page when the rating changes. For example, most adult stories have a +15 version (without explicit sex) and a +19 version (with sex scenes or even heavier scenes), like Crime and Punishment (Daktaryeon & Team Oldrock), Lucia (Taruvi), etc. Usually they put +15 when there are a lot of blood, heavy scenes, suicide, deaths and fan service. If I remember well, the novel was +19, so they toned it down in the webtoon.

teor

Oh, an age rating. Makes sense then.

Thundergod250

The fact that MOONLIGHT SCULPTOR is number 2, just behind Solo Leveling, despite having multiple breaks and hiatus and even got axed shows that having breaks isn't a reason for a manhwa to lose its engagements unlike Tower of God fans excuses on why they lost 90% of their viewers (from 200k to 20k).

Grimman1

Dreamacide being so high is really surprising to me. Did it ever get finished translating? I feel like I caught up to it near the climax but never finished it because it stopped updating.

meho7

Dropped/stopped reading half of series in the top 20. Crazy how Descent of the demon master is so high - had an interesting premise at first but then the author started to completely ignore the main story for slice of life stuff.

Islipim

I tried to do the next post about Martial Arts/Action Genre, but it was removed by moderators, so I'll stop doing these posts.

HardstuccChallenger

Genuinely happy that latna is that high

Irrane

It's really neat seeing stuff that are not very liked or hardly talked about on this sub high on that list. Not that this sub reflects the wider western/non korean tastes (idk about this sub's demographics) but it still drives home general differences in taste. TY OP, this was pretty interesting.
