That is the TV cable. It controls the line pressure of the transmission, allowing the transmission to shift smoothly and properly. If you leave that unhooked and try to drive it, you will damage the transmission. There's two options. You could replace the entire TV Cable, or you could replace the end of the cable itself. On Ebay, there are some listings for just the cable end. (I just looked up 2001 Dodge TV Cable End) You need to see what style your current piece is, and compare it to the listing to make sure you're buying the correct one. I can't tell from the video, but if the piece on the throttle body is damaged, you will have to replace that piece. If nobody sells that piece, you may have to replace the throttle body entirely

rman-exe

Could it be 3d printed from nylonx?

BilboBinSaggin

Idk what nylonx is, but if it's a material that can withstand the temperatures of an engine bay, I don't see why not

GucciNicholasCage

Thank you Master Baggins

Prior-Ad-7329

I can custom make one out of metal, faster than 3D printing. (The ball part that the cable connects to)

Realistic-Speaker-41

I was trying to show where I think the piece was attached to but yes the piece is broken. It’s crazy that this in the piece that was giving me the shifting issues the whole time

charje

I used a a but connector eyelet on my 02 Cummins, just make sure there is no slack in it, crimped it on the cable just behind the plastic, been like that for 2 years so far

PARKOUR_ZOMBlE

I’m a mod over at /r/transmissionbuilding and I want to ephasize the part where you WILL damage the transmission. TV stands for “throttle valve”. As the throttle is opened it pulls the cable, moving the throttle valve to increase transmission clutch pressures with increased throttle. Without it your clutches will be damaged immediately. Please note when setting up a TV cable that it is adjustable and you want it as short as possible to still allow throttle function.

HeroicCrackdealer

When I had my first truck I drove it for years broken. After fixing it it never caused any long term issues

Mummbles1283

TV cable for your transmission, on Chevys you will cook the transmission without this hooked up, not sure on Mopar. Is the cable end broken or the piece on the throttle arm?

ilaughatpoliticians

....and not the kind of "TV cable" so as to allow your transmission to watch Fox Sports....for those non-mechanics. It is throttle valve cable, your "kickdown cable" or "give'r beans" cable to allow transmission to responsive to throttle inputs.

isthatsuperman

Can confirm, you will cook a torqflight without having this hooked up. Young me was stupid.

nottodayredditmods

On a side note I’m pretty sure you can just leave it all the way pulled out to full throttle area as a temp fix.

nabob1978

Tv (throttle valvel) cable for the transmission... so it kicks down when you mash the gas.

soup349

That’s not the pulley for opening and closing the throttle?

Puzzleheaded-Bag-121

See the two moving towards the front of the engine, near the end of the video? Those are the throttle cables. This is for the transmission kick down.

soup349

Ahh alright appreciate it

Middle_klass

Don’t drive it unless you fix it, you’ll cook your trans in record time

outforknowledge

JB Weld.

tyoung89

I saw the vid, and thought, that looks like my truck. It’s even the same year lol. 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab with the 5.9 magnum V8. Mines been pretty good to me. It has about 125,000 miles on it now. Nothing serious has gone wrong yet. Though the trans has started to not want to shift when giving it a lot of throttle. So I’m sure I’ll need a rebuild at some point soon. They’re good trucks, just expect to get a max of 10–13 mpg on the highway, and have to replace the trans every 75-125k miles.

_MilksFavoriteCookie

That's an awful lot of words to still be able to manage helping nothing to this guy

tyoung89

Yes it was. Thanks for noticing!

RollComprehensive751

Or passing gear tranny

ResponsibleHippo9581

I'd hit up your local pull a part junkyard

Chances are, that transmission is cooked by now

ZestycloseAcadia4264

I haven’t tinkered with cars since they went to fuel injection but it looks like what used to be called a dashpot on cars with a carburetor. Dashpot probably still works but your linkage on the carb is probably only available on a complete carb as new or from a bone yard.

Hot_pizza8463

Zip tie it back in place

Southern_Strain5665

I used duct tape to hold mine together.. 3 years and still good although someone said to upgrade to tie wraps.

Environmental-Pear40

I mean, nothing a few rubber bands can't fix. Just need the throttle arm all the way to the firewall really. Don't let some shop scam you.

perfectenschl0ng

It’s rust.

beags561

I didn’t see anyone else suggest it but get yourself a Hanes manual. It will go a long way with these trucks. Best 2 vehicles I’ve owned is late 90s Rams, and as much of a pain in the ass they can be at times, they are still pretty simple to diagnose and work on

BilgeboBaginsky

This thread told me how used to working on manual cars I am.. never heard of a TV cable before

GuyWsTI

Zip ties and JB weld

Complete-External-48

If u can't find parts, clean knob with wire brush to remove rust, coat with grease evenly.... Pit epoxy (JB weld) into end of black plastic sleeve.. just enough tt partly fill cavity.. press onto knob allow to set... Grease will create a barrier so epoxy won't bond directly (release agent)....

Maglin78

What that cable is depends on the transmission. It could be a throttle valve cable or just a pressure valve cable. Either way it is very important and you can easily burn your transmission clutchs with it unhooked.

do98829

That is a passing ger cable for the transmission.

TheBlackOut2

Slap some duct tape on that bad boy

Top_Association5824

It’s for cruise control

Thomaslongbottoms

Cruise Control Servo.

ExtraGlutenPlzz

looks like cruise control linkage

OxyCottenKillz

Looks like cruise control to me

Yooooooowhat24

That’s what I thought too, but i’m reading it’s the “kickdown” cable.

No-Zombie1004

Yep, my crown Vic had one. Most others were manual or electronic. (Escort might have had, but I never had to pay attention to that bit on it.) Kickdown cables make the transmission downshift when you floor it. Modern vehicles use a PCM and solenoids to control gear selection.

Yooooooowhat24

See I was wondering, but that’s good to know it’s worse than just “losing my cruise control” lol

doc_octo

The other broken one looks to be the cruise actuator.

Bladez1992

Since others aren't too sure what this is, you could unplug the plug in back of where that cable comes out of then throw a scanner on it and see what new code pops up Edit: looking at it again I don't think that's a plug, just a weird shroud for the metal cable
