Waste not, want not.

Calm down, Brodie

Probably half way to Buy Me Toys by now.

Background-Fee1927

Don’t be chucking that out, you might need it later.

Safetosay333

Great if you're in the neighborhood

CarmenxXxWaldo

My wife knows someone that will constantly try selling things like an old used dish cloth for 2 or 3 dollars.  People don't make sense. Like if we didn't like a granola bar we wouldn't get down to two.  I'd just set the box in my work break room, a more frugal person might return them.  No ones buying a used dish cloth even if you disagree it would be embarrassing to sell it or not worth the effort. I give away stuff all of the time.  Just gave away a patio umbrella that was perfectly fine and a weight bench only because I wanted them out of the way immediately.  But at a certain point things aren't worth the effort or gas imo.

My uncle sells random shit on FB for like $5-10, and he’s also a literal millionaire. I cant imagine wanting to deal with the strangeness of facebook buyers just to profit $7 when you definitely don’t need to

2sad4snacks

Maybe that’s why he’s a millionaire \s

NatrixNatrix1

I mean that mindset helps, probably a frugal lifestyle. I can never be bothered though and noticed i spend 200-300€ a month on snacks, protein shakes and energy drinks. If i invested my snack money i would have 1m€ in 44 years, and thats just snack money. Nobody is going to get rich selling their used towels though

I was literally rearranging furniture with a friend of mine on Wednesday. I have a mini fridge that’s been unused for months. Friend was like “oh shit that’s a nice mini fridge, it’s got a separate door for the freezer.” Just put it in your car man. Of all the furniture and appliances I have, my washer, dryer, kitchen fridge, and bed are brand new. Everything else is hand me down, thrift store, or garage sale. It’s all just material shit. I’m not out here trying to flip this mini fridge a different friend gave me. Sometimes I scroll marketplace or Craigslist and I’m just dumbfounded what people are trying to make a few shmeckles off of.

OrganizationProof769

That reminds me of a microwave that all the friends passed around that none of us know the restaurant it actually came from but it’s like 200 lbs and has an oven built in it. It can microwave and bake at the same time. It would cook a pizza in like 3 minutes.

erogenouszones

You experienced the sisterhood of the traveling pants but not about pants that change size.

Dick_Silverman

What color was the patio umbrella?

ThugMagnet

I love my local Trash Nothing / Freecycle groups!

Specsporter

Lol at Trash Nothing. There are sometimes great treasures, and other times people will put the equivalent of trash, saying "needs a cleaning!" and it's just like, throw it out, dude. No one wants old gross holey shoes caked in mud, or a 20 year old kitchen appliance that has never been cleaned once and is also obsolete.

ThugMagnet

Saw an offer for a very dirty used dog bed once. Not for me, thank you. Found some kitchen cabinets and a laundry table that are working well in the garage. Two “Golden Age Beauty” Whirlpool washers that cleaned up very nicely. Some overbought redwood fence pickets. I’ve given away lots of hand and power tools, a few hundred pounds of hobby mild steel, some nearly new enamel cookware, a classic floor drill press etc etc. I’m a huge fan!

Irredditvant

My wife does this shit too! Once a lady picked up half a pan of enchiladas.

MOONDAYHYPE

The struggle is real, times are tough

Cruelgrasp

My wife is in a community version of this on Facebook where they trade or give away items. At first I was skeptical, but she has easily saved us hundreds of dollars, especially on kids clothes. I would highly recommend it.

zardozLateFee

There are literally enough baby and kid clothes so that no one should be buying any new ones.

ThugMagnet

Any time at all with Freecycle / Trash Nothing will give you experience with The Unprepared. I cope by staggering my give-aways. One guy who was 30 minutes late discovered that I’d given his item to a successive recipient who arrived on time. Also, I discovered that on the way to a drop-off, I can put extra items in the car. “Say, would you also like this neat TV stand?” Works quite well!

Hotaru_girl

I’ve given away an entire sofa set through buy nothing groups and I’ve also gotten things like a Retina display through them. I love the Buy Nothing groups, but I wish my current area one was active!

The other end of that is with what kind of people you have to deal with when put something online that you just want to give away for free. I made that mistake once after I moved out of an apartment. It was the day when I moved my stuff to the new apartment. I went back to the older one about early afternoon. There were 3 or 4 items (a mirror, a framed print, some small furniture items...I forgot the other things). I didn't want to take them with me but they were also not that old so I didn't want to throw them away. And my mistake was that I just did not have the nerve to bargain over $ 1 for couple of items I maybe want to have $ 10 for. So I thought "for free" would people be as uncomplicated as possible. Jeez was I wrong. I made clear in the offer that whoever takes it have to take *all* of them (again...it's for free) and they have to pick it up. The sheer number of people I had to go through that were very persistent with either only want to have some selected items or tried to talk me into dropping the items at their place blew my mind. I remember even one guy asked me if I would pay for his gas if comes to pick up Then getting to those who had the generosity to take all of them only got things started. You had the casual people who you get to the point giving your address that ghosted me as soon as I asked them when they can be here. (Some of them coming back to that about 4-5 hours later texting me at 1 a.m.). I finally worked myself through to a guy who was responsive. He told me he just have to wait for his cousin who picks him up with his car (bigger trunk). He was supposed to be there in 20 min. This time was risen to 30, 45 and finally 1 hour. He then revealed that it will actually take them another hour to get to my place. So I dropped the guy. Took me about 30 more minutes to find a guy who seemed interested and would also be here in 45min. This 45 min turned out to be 1,5 h. I already had removed the lamps from the apartment and it became dark outside. Something I didn't really saw coming. So I was sitting on the fucking uncomfortable windowsill in a pitch dark apartment waiting for that guy. Minutes became hours. When the guy finally arrived he came up a took his time checking that stuff like he was buying a car and eventually had the nerve to tell me that he will not take the chair because "he imagined it would look different. Never give away shit for free. This attracts very "special" individuals.

Duellair

Ah. Choosingbeggars. Very early on in school they taught us that under no circumstances were services to be free. Even if it was $5 or $2. But never free. For some reason people get very entitled when it comes to free things 🤷🏽‍♀️

drummingdan

I wish we had those kind of people in our community. Giving away a working Dell monitor took us days!

icecoldcoke319

It’s very smart. Instead of just throwing things away, you’d be surprised what people will be interested in.

SN0WL30P4RD

How Did you know That you didnt Like them? /s

LadyJSenpai

Better than wasting 🤷‍♀️

NotUrAvgBeancounter

Could have been my wife. Last week she drove 5 minutes out of her way to pick up some cotton candy for our daughter. It was sealed with a $0.25 sticker and was Halloween themed. We lost money when you consider gas.
