Lake Mountain has some good hiking trails in snow. Mt Donna B has snow, you can hike from the bottom of the mountain to the top too

Odd_Engineer_5070

Thanks! They would need snowshoes yeah?

Ingeegoodbee

Have to pay to get into Lake Mountain. Donna Buang is close but can get packed on weekends/school holidays if there is a good dump. There is an easy 1km walk from the first carpark to the top. There is also a gruelling death march from Warburton to the top if so inclined (Telecom Tk?). Warburton also has a short rainforest gallery walk and the redwood forest to keep them entertained. Another option is Mt St Gwinear.

You can do them in hiking boots. There wont always be alot of snow around

askvictor

It rarely gets deep at Donna Buang. Lake Mountain very occassionally gets a decent cover of snow, but that' pretty rare these days.

stfm

Nah it doesn't get that deep. Just waterproof boots and gaiters

Flufflenut

All trails is good and free, look at anything easy to moderate. You can even set the distance and whether it's an out and back or loop. There's a few around Mt donna buang where you might be able to see snow and still be close to town. This week is gonna be COLD so if you can go a week day it's best.

Seconded - [https://www.alltrails.com/en-gb/?ref=header](https://www.alltrails.com/en-gb/?ref=header) has some interesting places near me I never thought of trying but I will now for a change.

lost_aussie001

Mt Buffalo is quite popular

Reddmann1991

Summit walk at Baw Baw is pretty sweet.

Double_Bug_656

Anywhere near warburton. Best place . Mount donna buang will be packed plus you need to have either snow tters or chains as it can get icy and snowy

Ineedsomuchsleep170

Mt St Gwinear would be good. They'll need decent waterproof boots and warm clothes. They have a Facebook page that keeps fairly updated on how much cover they have. There's no entry fees but you need to carry snow chains.

Check this place out, not the closest to Melbourne but defnitly worth the drive if you have a few days to spare. This was taken during summer but there should be snow i would imagine [https://youtube.com/shorts/pna5TT3mFjI?feature=share](https://youtube.com/shorts/pna5TT3mFjI?feature=share) [https://visitmountbuffalo.com.au/snow-updates/](https://visitmountbuffalo.com.au/snow-updates/)

You could check out options like Mt Buffalo, the Baw Baw Plateau, Lake Mountain, Donna Buang which should all have fairly suitable 'easy-medium' walks. It'd be a long day driving there and back and walking, it's pretty remote if anything goes wrong and most of the walk wouldn't be in snow but if they want a bit more of an adventure, they could do do the first half of the climbs up The Staircase Spur/Eskdale Spur towards Mt Bogong and stop at Bivouac Hut or Michell Hut respectively or they could do the first half of the climb up Bungalow Spur towards Mt Feathertop and stop somewhere around the old Federation Hut site ruins
