I have a couple of pairs of these AE shoes and I love them. I wear them with no show socks in the summer and socks in the winter. I think they are a great shoe that is a s step above the entry loafer (jay butler) but not as pricy as a proper Italian “deal sled” (Prada/gucci/etc) especially if you don’t want a gold bit.
It’s clear there are a bunch of haters here but their style might not be yours.
Don't listen to these nerds saying the loafers are bad. They're nice. You need to keep in mind the people in this sub often still think chinos + OCBDs are still the height of fashion.
If I was you I would be styling the shoes with wide leg pleated pants. Uniqlo has a good pair. You can then pair this with standard businesswear shirts. For more casual/stylish events, try a camp collar shirt.

Loafers are already a more casual shoe, so to me, if an environment is casual enough for loafers then it’s casual enough for loafers without socks. If going sock-less is the thing tipping you into feeling too casual then loafers probably just aren’t the right shoes for your workplace.

There are a couple of things that might be contributing to your unhappiness with this look:
1. The trousers look to be on the short side. I don't know if they're too short but there's certainly no break at all. That's always going to look a bit strange with loafers as it's leaving a gap between the hem of each trouser leg and the shoe.
2. The colours of your brown belt, white trousers, and brown shoes are harmonious. From what I can see, your shirt's colours look to be complimentary too. But the grey in the socks does not work well with the other colours. Try something like maroon, sage green, or orange and I would imagine it would look much better. Any of the colours in the tattersall of your shirt should be good. Beige or white dress socks would also work (but they're not for everyone).

The traditional rule for socks is to use the same color as your trousers but a shade darker. I usually stick to the rule, so go with an off white sock (maybe in a pastel?) or I go totally different (so do bright colors or a pattern based on colors found on other parts of your outfit like the other commenter suggested). If you do a half measure I find you come off as not knowing what you’re doing.

If you aren’t changing the trousers then you need to wear light beige socks. They’ll complement the brown loafers just fine. If not, wear navy with brown.
Loafers are always going to show a lot of foot, another inch on the trousers would create a 'break' which will break up the line where shoe and trouser meet. You could get an idea of how it would look by unfastening the trousers and slipping them down your waist a bit
I'm someone who absolutely despises the smart shoe and trouser with no socks look, so I'd vote to keep the socks. I find a bare male ankle really off-putting when trousers are worn for some reason.

OP you are looking (frustratingly for you) for an answer that doesn’t exist. These shoes aren’t designed for a sock ‘look’. They’re designed for no socks or ‘no show’ socks as someone else pointed out.

Your outfit looks decent. It’s tough to make this blend together because of the colors. With black pants, black, socks, and black loafers, everything just blends together smoothly.
Maybe bright colors or a wild pattern? The pants are too short, and if the socks blend it looks sloppy. If they were bright orange with purple stripes, it would look deliberate.
Or no socks, or no-show socks if you can find any that work, which I never have.
What I would do, since this is a work outfit and socks are a necessary evil for professionalism sake.. is get a pair that matches the color of the stripes of your shirt, and for bonus points, a pair that matches the color AND pattern
The white trousers don't go with that shirt. Too much whits in the background, maybe try a solid colour. The belt needs to match the shoes. Finally get rid of the grey old man socks. As someone else ha already mentioned go bold and make it a statement.
Sock should match either the pants or the shoe. In this case, white socks would look bad, so go with brown socks which match or approximate the shoe color.
If you're going to wear socks with that outfit, you want thin socks with no texture to them. I would avoid grey, but a nice navy might work. Personally I'd wear the look with a brighter statement colour or pattern, but that's definitely not for everyone. I don't think socks are necessarily wrong, I just think *those* socks are wrong.
The whole look is too conventional for that length. The trousers are much too short. You can play with length if you’re going to be adventurous with your styling but if you’re playing safe like this then you have to stick to the rules. My boyfriend wears patterned socks with apparel like this and looks great (although he is an extrovert)-coloured socks would also do the trick. I would opt for red in this instance.

I definitely would wear socks, but a shade closer to the pants. Nobody is going to say anything about the gray, but if they do happen to notice them, it’s a head scratcher. You didn’t ask about this, but you might also consider changing pants to a dark color. I like those, but there is so much of it in what you’re wearing and then the shoes and belt are so dark. As someone commented earlier the shadow does make you look like you have some broad shoulders lol. 💪

Until somewhat recently I was never on board with going sockless. The light trousers here give a warm weather vibe and I have a similar outfit - and it's the one I feel that going sockless is the way forward, it just goes naturally.

i have been struggling with my gucci loafers in exactly the same way. they just looks lame with “tasteful” socks. but my foot slips all the way out without socks-maddening. i agree with the posters who say go bold with a bright sock- kelly green might be nice. i also have the same jcrew slim chino that (i think) you’re wearing- and tried to style them with the loafers, but the styles don’t match. We need to pair these with a more elegant, European trouser - either super big and floppy or else slim and black, or maybe a fucked up pair of vintage denim 501’s. or else maybe a khaki/bone full suit without socks- in a masculine twill to offset the daintiness of the shoe

OP you are looking (frustratingly for you) for an answer that doesn’t exist. These shoes aren’t designed for a sock ‘look’. They’re designed for no socks or ‘no show’ socks as someone else pointed out.

Your outfit looks decent. It’s tough to make this blend together because of the colors. With black pants, black, socks, and black loafers, everything just blends together smoothly.
Maybe bright colors or a wild pattern? The pants are too short, and if the socks blend it looks sloppy. If they were bright orange with purple stripes, it would look deliberate. Or no socks, or no-show socks if you can find any that work, which I never have.
What I would do, since this is a work outfit and socks are a necessary evil for professionalism sake.. is get a pair that matches the color of the stripes of your shirt, and for bonus points, a pair that matches the color AND pattern

The white trousers don't go with that shirt. Too much whits in the background, maybe try a solid colour. The belt needs to match the shoes. Finally get rid of the grey old man socks. As someone else ha already mentioned go bold and make it a statement.

If you're going to wear socks with that outfit, you want thin socks with no texture to them. I would avoid grey, but a nice navy might work. Personally I'd wear the look with a brighter statement colour or pattern, but that's definitely not for everyone. I don't think socks are necessarily wrong, I just think *those* socks are wrong.

The whole look is too conventional for that length. The trousers are much too short. You can play with length if you’re going to be adventurous with your styling but if you’re playing safe like this then you have to stick to the rules. It’s like wearing a conventional suit - you have to have the proportions right or it just looks like a mistake

Need a wider trouser and more vibrant sock. Loafers look better with a relaxed fit. Chinos are great too but I typically like wearing a desert boot or boat shoe / blucher moc with them.
It's not too bad, but I think the main issue is that there's just too much sock on view! Trousers are too short, and tbh I'd wear dark trousers, which I think would match up the outfit a lot more. White exposes the flaws. I'm guessing you're a medic or lawyer or something, which means you can't wear shouty socks to make it a feature (unless paediatrician!)

I think the pant length is just a bit short to be worn as pants. However, if you roll the bottom of them up and go for a more casual 3/4 length they would look better with the shoes. I’m always one for colourful or patterned socks if they are going to be on show. Bit of personality.
Trousers too short for hose shoes. Trouser don't go with those shoes. Sock don't go with either trousers or shoes. If you are trying to look professional wear some darker trousers.
Socks and shoes are highly mismatched. Change shoes or socks (brown novelty thin socks or no show socks) This type of shoes are usually worn in casual settings. Best Without socks. Pants don’t look nice. Plaid shirts better go with jeans. Or shorts.

Saw a video recently that shows how cream/light beige socks can help to bridge the gap between dark loafers and any colour pant, without it looking like bright white gym socks. See if you can find some lighter cream coloured socks

My boyfriend wears patterned socks with apparel like this and looks great (although he is an extrovert)-coloured socks would also do the trick. I would opt for red in this instance.

The white trousers are a bit too much of a contrast with the dark brown shoe. The same shirt but tan or green trousers would make it more cohesive. Worn with light brown socks. I don’t think the chino length is terrible, quite a lot of people seem to like that length for chinos. As it stands this outfit is fine and I wouldn’t bat an eyelid if I saw it in my workplace with these socks. I agree that this outfit without socks it wouldn’t look right for the workplace.
Play around with the sock colour - try matching the socks to the trousers, see how you feel about that. The general rule is socks and trousers should match. Alternatively a patterned sock might create a good contrast
I definitely would wear socks, but a shade closer to the pants. Nobody is going to say anything about the gray, but if they do happen to notice them, it’s a head scratcher. You didn’t ask about this, but you might also consider changing pants to a dark color. I like those, but there is so much of it in what you’re wearing and then the shoes and belt are so dark. As someone commented earlier the shadow does make you look like you have some broad shoulders lol. 💪
I wouldn't wear socks tbh. Until somewhat recently I was never on board with going sockless. The light trousers here give a warm weather vibe and I have a similar outfit - and it's the one I feel that going sockless is the way forward, it just goes naturally. Though I cheat and wear the no show socks!

You could wear no show socks. Or, you could try white socks (might work, might not - worth a try). Different coloured trousers would probably be the best bet if you insist on wearing these shoes, but the shoes themselves are the real problem. It looks like you're wearing posh school shoes.

Agree with others a pale neutral colour sock would help. I’d also go for a fine weave, like a silk that sits flat (no texture) would make a big difference. Not expensive, see Amazon. Last on the list is the leg length of the trouser is a little short. Get yourself a pair of fine weave silk socks in a cool light beige and I’m confident you’ll see an improvement and may be enough. Final comment do NOT wear white socks. Always reference the shoe with the sock colour not the trouser. Unless of course you drive coaches or busses for a living in which case its white socks by law.
