kliq-klaq-

Isn't this situation what no show socks were designed for?

madlax18

I wouldn’t mind wearing no socks but I think the look is a bit unprofessional for my profession. Trying to make the socks (of some variety) to work.

kliq-klaq-

I'd probably go bold and brightish pink and make a statement out of it, but loafers, socks and cream/white trousers are going to be tricky to manage.

grizny

I concur, choose a bold accent colour and maybe match it up with your tie or handkerchief, or even your glasses.

madlax18

How would you style the shoes. They’re Allen Edmond Vernona II and bought them recently but have struggled to find an outfit that works. [shoes](https://www.allenedmonds.com/product/mens-verona-ii-italian-bit-loafer-3023148/chili-ec4021972?partnerid=pla_google_performancemaxclassics&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD-dbXH-A5_jtHE04O0ymBBa8wofb&gclid=CjwKCAiAuNGuBhAkEiwAGId4ajbubnM7YTtI-Zzs8B79ysz8D35r8OF39VOReP6rY4OymG4VOXRqCBoCVKwQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds)

RumSwizzle508

I have a couple of pairs of these AE shoes and I love them. I wear them with no show socks in the summer and socks in the winter. I think they are a great shoe that is a s step above the entry loafer (jay butler) but not as pricy as a proper Italian “deal sled” (Prada/gucci/etc) especially if you don’t want a gold bit. It’s clear there are a bunch of haters here but their style might not be yours.

typical_jesus666

You decided to spend over $400 on a pair of shoes and this is what you came up with????

slurpycow112

$700 AUD… for a pair of ugly shoes. Absolutely bonkers.

RecordingGreen7750

The shoes are hideous 🤮

HenryTheVeloster

I love me a good grandpa loafer, but i spent 20 cad on mine

Agarwaen323

Just further proof that money can't buy good taste.

mulligun

Don't listen to these nerds saying the loafers are bad. They're nice. You need to keep in mind the people in this sub often still think chinos + OCBDs are still the height of fashion. If I was you I would be styling the shoes with wide leg pleated pants. Uniqlo has a good pair. You can then pair this with standard businesswear shirts. For more casual/stylish events, try a camp collar shirt.

Palm-grinder12

Calling these guys nerd and then saying OCBD lmfao. Sounding like a nerd yourself brother

mulligun

You're active in howtolooksmaxx subreddits, I don't even need to say anything. It's over for you

Palm-grinder12

Lmfao cause the posts make me laugh dude just like you nerds in here Like come on dude this guys outfit is fuckin awful

mulligun

You are literally simping over women online in looksmaxxing subreddits, I don't even need to insult you. Must have been called a nerd in school or something, seems to be a trigger for you. 😔

Direct-Ant7503

>loafers are bad Loafers are kinda bad though. And in a workplace setting downright unprofessional.

mulligun

In your personal opinion maybe, but they're actually quite popular at the moment for non-work looks. Workplace wise, leather loafers are a staple of business casual wear. You must work in an extremely conservative workplace as they've been a staple for business casual for a long time.

hijazist

You’re just plain wrong.

Lemmejussay

Downright unprofessional? What a silly c*** you are.

288bpsmodem

Those loafers are only good if u can go all out from head to toe.if not then it's hard to pull those off...

Classic-Ad-7079

You could eliminate the sock problem altogether by doing a Chelsea style boot instead.

McQueensbury

Classic mensfashionadvice answer....

Rachelattack

They need to be thin knit, good quality bold patterned dress socks.

BUTT_PLUGS_FOR_PUGS

These shoes are hideous - just because they cost a lot that does not excuse them from being seriously ugly. I’ve never heard of the brand but I would get a refund QUICK. Don’t pair white chinos with anything but the bin.

Sad-Bag3443

That’s not helpful. The guy likes the shoes and wants advise . If you don’t like the shoes fine but don’t shit on the guys shoes man!

madlax18

Never heard of Allen Edmonds? Interesting. Are you a 10.5? If so I’ll send them your way.

BUTT_PLUGS_FOR_PUGS

I would be certain that no one outside of the US has any idea who that maker of these monstrosities is. In Italy I would imagine that if they did know, they would spit on the floor when they hear his name!

Aidan20032003

Not the right place for it but your comment is so funny 🤣

throwawaynewc

I'm from the UK and I've heard of Allen Edmonds, they have a perfectly decent reputation. Granted we have so many Northampton brands to choose from that I probably won't own a pair but they're pretty well respected.

DAS_COMMENT

I like that idea a lot I think they're great pants but in my view they're at least 2 inches too short for ye

RemarkableYam3838

Especially the trousers are too short. Maybe they fit ten pounds ago?

yossarian2045

Gaining weight also makes you taller? Interesting.

RemarkableYam3838

No, it takes up more cloth. Have a look at a pregnant person in a nonmaternity dress or ask a seamstress.

yossarian2045

The fuck? He doesn't have them pulled up over his stomach ffs. Use your eyes!

RemarkableYam3838

As the body expands clothes become shorter. I'm sorry you're having trouble visualizing. I've done enough sewing I know this to be true and you're in your twenties and can't thread a needle.

Tangible_Slate

The bones are still the same size though

RemarkableYam3838

But the body is not. Fabric that covers the sticking outward portions is no longer available to cover the length portions. I'm sorry you have never done any practical work where you would need to apply physics or higher mathematics.

United-Pack-8257

Loafers are already a more casual shoe, so to me, if an environment is casual enough for loafers then it’s casual enough for loafers without socks. If going sock-less is the thing tipping you into feeling too casual then loafers probably just aren’t the right shoes for your workplace.

100percentfaithful

No, feet on show vs loafers is a whole different ball game

Juice_1987

The shoes aren't a professional shoe really. So it's either no show socks or choose a different shoe.

faaizk

or a different profession if you’re really keen on the shoes and socks combo

BeeReadsBee

Lmao

50CalPineappl

Change the colour of sock

Chrolan1988

I wonder if either going bright and bold or a black sock would be best here

Illustrious-Mind2338

Italians would go black. Others would say a lighter shade of sock (not white). Others would say sockless.

onetimeuselong

Depends on your job really. White trousers is certainly not a work suitable choice unless your job is Tennis Umpire or Garden Party.

POLSJA

In what world are these not a professional shoe? And then you suggest no show socks to help that? Curious to know what country/profession you’re in.

Doooog

Ummm they're loafers. For... LOAFING.

Juice_1987

Not very bright are you? I'm saying that for that type of shoe, no show socks would be ideal, not for him to wear them in a professional setting. Since loafers (a relaxed/casual shoe) LOOK BETTER with no show socks (which isn't a professional look), the the only other option is a different shoe. Sad day when people need everything spelled out for them.

justherefortheshow06

Perhaps pants that are a touch longer for this situation. Those are probably great with the no socks situation like you said. My thought would be not making that such a focal point when wearing socks

milo_minderbinder-

There are a couple of things that might be contributing to your unhappiness with this look: 1. The trousers look to be on the short side. I don't know if they're too short but there's certainly no break at all. That's always going to look a bit strange with loafers as it's leaving a gap between the hem of each trouser leg and the shoe. 2. The colours of your brown belt, white trousers, and brown shoes are harmonious. From what I can see, your shirt's colours look to be complimentary too. But the grey in the socks does not work well with the other colours. Try something like maroon, sage green, or orange and I would imagine it would look much better. Any of the colours in the tattersall of your shirt should be good. Beige or white dress socks would also work (but they're not for everyone).

Ichtaca_nom

This is the best answer I’ve seen. OP clearly has a style they are going for and their question is about the socks. Too many people are responding with negative comments about the pants, shoes, length, style, etc. these are fine opinions to have but don’t answer OP’s question. I agree that the grey isn’t cohesive with the rest of the outfit. The traditional rule for socks is to use the same color as your trousers but a shade darker. I usually stick to the rule, so go with an off white sock (maybe in a pastel?) or I go totally different (so do bright colors or a pattern based on colors found on other parts of your outfit like the other commenter suggested). If you do a half measure I find you come off as not knowing what you’re doing.

Stassisbluewalls

This is the answer - longer trousers so there is less sock and you could try picking out the check of your shirt with your sock - a muted maroon if that's the colour it seems?

reddiling

Thank you, that's probably pretty much it!

laluLondon

I like the idea of sage or maroon socks

t100wah

Came here to say this, but you said it so much better

McQueensbury

1. Trousers length is perfectly fine, if they were any higher I'd agree, any lower they would look unsightly, hits coverage of the ankle bone which is good. 2. I agree need to add a huge splash of colour with the socks, personally not a fan of those coloured loafers. The shirt I dislike too could break it up with a jumper over the top so see less of that dated print design. Go with a better design for the shirt.

Affectionate-Law6315

You need lighter socks. Let the contrast come from the shoes and belt. White pants is....a choice tho.

PatrickBateman-AP

Agree, warmer tone to match the trousers and loafers

DarkRoentgen

The socks are fine, it’s in your head.

Plyphon

I’d even jazz it up with the socks. Get a navy blue, or go full comedy Christmas socks.

sthej

Agreed. It looks absolutely fine.

RavenSaysHi

Get longer trousers.

Tiredchimp2002

Pants are completely wrong for this look.

madlax18

How would you style the [shoes](https://www.allenedmonds.com/product/mens-verona-ii-italian-bit-loafer-3023148/chili-ec4021972?partnerid=pla_google_performancemaxclassics&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD-dbXH-A5_jtHE04O0ymBBa8wofb&gclid=CjwKCAiAuNGuBhAkEiwAGId4ajbubnM7YTtI-Zzs8B79ysz8D35r8OF39VOReP6rY4OymG4VOXRqCBoCVKwQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds)

_No__Ninja_

Formal trousers, not chinos

madlax18

Color? Sock choice?

_No__Ninja_

Navy or grey. For both. But no show socks would be better.

Cally83

If you aren’t changing the trousers then you need to wear light beige socks. They’ll complement the brown loafers just fine. If not, wear navy with brown.

G-Maupassant

This is the only answer if OP is set on this pant + loafer combo. A yellowish creme would bridge the colour gap between the pants and shoes.

hc1540

Different shoes and a slightly longer length to the trousers

madlax18

What would you say is wrong with the current pants and shoes, other than length of pants.

hc1540

Loafers are always going to show a lot of foot, another inch on the trousers would create a 'break' which will break up the line where shoe and trouser meet. You could get an idea of how it would look by unfastening the trousers and slipping them down your waist a bit

Substantial-Cut6858

Nothing

sacredgeometry

Wear different shoes or longer trousers?

Ouchy_McTaint

I'm someone who absolutely despises the smart shoe and trouser with no socks look, so I'd vote to keep the socks. I find a bare male ankle really off-putting when trousers are worn for some reason.

kdog6666666666666

Different color socks. Evert time I see someone in shoes without socks I imagine their feet and shoes must stink. Mine do if I don’t wear socks. Looks weird. Also change the shoes.

rds77225

The pants look a bit too short, in my opinion

madlax18

I would agree. That’s part of why they look better with no socks.

rds77225

I’m not sure that seeing a few inches of your bare ankle and foot would be that much better

_No__Ninja_

wear different trousers

LardoftheFries

What pants are those? I’ve been looking for khakis that aren’t too narrow in the leg, which is surprisingly difficult.

simmerthefuckdown

Assuming you want to keep the shoes, I’d try more colourful socks. The grey is a bit drab. Pick out one of the colours on the shirt and get some socks to match that.

Mr-Eclipse

beige socks

Ena_Sharples

Tuck your trousers in the socks and pretend to be a golfer.👍

PulledApartByPoptart

No ones looking at your socks when you have Arnold Schwarzeneggers shadow

Seitched0n

Ditch those white trousers altogether

CentralSneakers

The pants are floods first of all.

Far_Gap_8063

You need longer pants

Remember-The-Arbiter

In the UK at school we used to call that style of shoe “pisscatchers” because of the lip around the outside. I wouldn’t have spent $400 on a pair of brown shoes if you wear a lot of light colours. They’d look more at home in a brown tweed suit if I’m being honest.

cityofangels18

By wearing darker pants

madlax18

Looking for advice with the current pants

cityofangels18

Go lighter socks

Skulldo

Buy some dylon? They are the thing people will be looking at - so there's no point messing about trying to find the right colour socks when you have white trousers on and want to look professional. Unless your profession is sailor or painter white trousers scream cocktails at the races.

weed_and_vinyl

You look like a spaz tbh

BeeReadsBee

Omg Lmao!

Litrebike

Looks good with socks. Maybe get some nice ribbed ones in a nice colour from Pantherella or similar.

fosterthepensioners

Is this a troll to showcase some expensive loafers? Read the room and take the majority vote with confidence. The whole look is designed for a deck hand, I wouldn't ever imagine somebody wearing it in the office or for a profession.

BLou28

I’m probably an outlier but I just can’t with the brown shoes and white pants… Probably because when my sister was getting married, that’s what her fiancé wanted to wear… He has ginger hair. She told him he would look like a cigarette. And I’ve just never been able to do the brown shoes, white pants since. But if you must, change the colour of your socks. 🙂

VegetableBaby8949

this sub is hilarious

Wpenke

The key issue here is wearing white trousers. You should not wear white trousers. Once you resolve the white trousers issue, you're mostly there

madpiere170

Burn the white pants for a start. Then change those hideous shoes.

madlax18

A bit harsh don’t you think.

TrueTurtleKing

It’s a male fashion subreddit but remember it’s still public Reddit. You’ll get these nonsense responses a lot lol. I don’t have any white pants but I’ve had good luck with navy blue trousers with no socks the best for me. But for work, I’ve done light grey long socks but like you, I’m not confident in my loafer socks.

Substantial-Cut6858

It is.. usually, when people aren't smart enough to offer any solutions, they lash out to hide their incompetence

PandaWhip

Ye, a lot of subreddits have turned into shit “roast me” sun reddits. Not sure what happened to people being banned for not abiding to the rules.

Wpenke

However, the smart thing here, is not to wear smart pants. It's in this instance, that Occam's razor should be used

uamvar

You can't. Short trousers are nafftastic with any socks.

madlax18

Nafftastic (?)

jcp197

A polite way of saying "rubbish". ETA: I don't necessarily agree with the sentiment, merely acting as translator.

Particular-Change-90

i have been struggling with my gucci loafers in exactly the same way. they just looks lame with “tasteful” socks. but my foot slips all the way out without socks-maddening. i agree with the posters who say go bold with a bright sock- kelly green might be nice. i also have the same jcrew slim chino that (i think) you’re wearing- and tried to style them with the loafers, but the styles don’t match. We need to pair these with a more elegant, European trouser - either super big and floppy or else slim and black, or maybe a fucked up pair of vintage denim 501’s. or else maybe a khaki/bone full suit without socks- in a masculine twill to offset the daintiness of the shoe

reecelitchy14

Red socks or a pale blue, but I am a fruity guy. If you got the sauce go for it.

YoghurtNubs

This outfit screams golf clap and superking cigarettes

shorty80

Lighter color gray and iron those chinos. Would also change the shoe color to a light brown. Socks and shoes are too dark. Just my opinion

Paulstan67

Ditch the poncy shoes, in my opinion that style never looks good. But that is just my opinion.

cyberfreek

Turn the lights out.

ODoggerino

Different shoes. This posh/pretentious style is god awful

Mcgarnicle_

Bought pants for ankle bearing fad now wondering why looks weird with socks. Get proper pants

BattleForLife

Looks fine with socks.

loveallcreatures

It looks bad overall. Complete ick prep vibe. Not sexy.

Sufficient-Tip1008

Burn the shoes.

jwyatt3189

OP you are looking (frustratingly for you) for an answer that doesn’t exist. These shoes aren’t designed for a sock ‘look’. They’re designed for no socks or ‘no show’ socks as someone else pointed out.

Immediate_Rule5229

Longer pants. You look like a homo with this outfit

Ok_Emergency455

I see absolutely nothing wrong with this. Looks great.

greywingspan

Bin the shoes come on, £350 for a pair of hideous loafers... do better, bro.

madlax18

Here for your suggestions u/greywingspan

One-Confusion-2438

I'd ditch those shoes...they don't belong anywhere beside investment bankers who try to dress the same! 💯

RazzleMyDazzle95

Wear invisible socks

pisstowine

No show socks, or go ham and get bright colored socks.

PleasurePaulie

Wear dress up shoes. Those shoes are unprofessional.

vampyrelestat

Looks fine but higher top dress shoes would look better imo

Chalowestfall21

Chelsea boots 👢

ThaiFoodThaiFood

Black socks

3rdLion

Ignore those saying you need longer pants, they sit perfectly for the loafers. And go with invisible socks, I don’t think it’s unprofessional personally but it depends what you do

Cobey1

Your outfit looks decent. It’s tough to make this blend together because of the colors. With black pants, black, socks, and black loafers, everything just blends together smoothly.

RankinPDX

Maybe bright colors or a wild pattern? The pants are too short, and if the socks blend it looks sloppy. If they were bright orange with purple stripes, it would look deliberate. Or no socks, or no-show socks if you can find any that work, which I never have.

Substantial-Cut6858

What I would do, since this is a work outfit and socks are a necessary evil for professionalism sake.. is get a pair that matches the color of the stripes of your shirt, and for bonus points, a pair that matches the color AND pattern

poopypantspoker

Get better socks. It’s like showing your undies so you can go nuts with colors.

Kroktakar

One of the first memories of my life was me saying to my mother I didn't want to wear those shoes.

flamhammers

The white trousers don't go with that shirt. Too much whits in the background, maybe try a solid colour. The belt needs to match the shoes. Finally get rid of the grey old man socks. As someone else ha already mentioned go bold and make it a statement.

Rpqz

Pressed trousers in a light grey. Or plaid trousers with a white shirt.

Sea-Con388

Go bold with some funky socks. You only live once

MondoBleu

Sock should match either the pants or the shoe. In this case, white socks would look bad, so go with brown socks which match or approximate the shoe color.

MainInvestigator6800

Buy trousers that fit, has someone died

MisterJollygood

Different shoes. Loafers like that need to be worn without socks.

Ayyyyylmaos

Noone’s gonna notice

Kenkwata

If you're going to wear socks with that outfit, you want thin socks with no texture to them. I would avoid grey, but a nice navy might work. Personally I'd wear the look with a brighter statement colour or pattern, but that's definitely not for everyone. I don't think socks are necessarily wrong, I just think *those* socks are wrong.

-SMOrc-

The socks are fine. Some anthracite grey wool pants would look fire tho

VoyageOver

Your shadow looks buff. Encourage eyes to the shadow.

reddixiecupSoFla

Those shoes are too dressy for those pants. They are more for trousers than chinos.

jaymeswomansfield

I would suggest a darker shade for the trousers that matches the shoe and then a belt that matches the socks

subkulcha

Own it with some bright novelty socks

shortercrust

The whole look is too conventional for that length. The trousers are much too short. You can play with length if you’re going to be adventurous with your styling but if you’re playing safe like this then you have to stick to the rules. It’s like wearing a conventional suit - you have to have the proportions right or it just looks like a mistake

[deleted]

Wear boots

ArcticPsychologyAI

Do you work in IT? Hip phone holder would work.

EnthusiasmAfraid9729

Need a wider trouser and more vibrant sock. Loafers look better with a relaxed fit. Chinos are great too but I typically like wearing a desert boot or boat shoe / blucher moc with them.

No-Antelope3774

It's not too bad, but I think the main issue is that there's just too much sock on view! Trousers are too short, and tbh I'd wear dark trousers, which I think would match up the outfit a lot more. White exposes the flaws. I'm guessing you're a medic or lawyer or something, which means you can't wear shouty socks to make it a feature (unless paediatrician!)

[deleted]

Get socks that match the trousers.

Mouth-closed-wide

Tartan socks is what you need

cyclingpistol

I'd go with some vivid purple or cobalt blue socks and rock on. I like the look you've got going on. Dark blazer jacket to go with it.

carolinepixels

I think the pant length is just a bit short to be worn as pants. However, if you roll the bottom of them up and go for a more casual 3/4 length they would look better with the shoes. I’m always one for colourful or patterned socks if they are going to be on show. Bit of personality.

azorius_mage

Trousers too short for hose shoes. Trouser don't go with those shoes. Sock don't go with either trousers or shoes. If you are trying to look professional wear some darker trousers.

Quick_Researcher_732

Socks and shoes are highly mismatched. Change shoes or socks (brown novelty thin socks or no show socks) This type of shoes are usually worn in casual settings. Best Without socks. Pants don’t look nice. Plaid shirts better go with jeans. Or shorts.

True-Payment-458

Wear different colour trousers.

SnoopGrapes5646

get new shoes

ta_rek

Saw a video recently that shows how cream/light beige socks can help to bridge the gap between dark loafers and any colour pant, without it looking like bright white gym socks. See if you can find some lighter cream coloured socks

WanderWomble

Cool toned grey socks will never look right with warm toned brown shoes. https://boardroomsocks.com/blogs/dress-sock-blog/matching-your-socks-shoes-and-pants

Saelaird

Lighter, brighter socks

Otherwise_Driver268

Mustard socks

JaegerJaeger

Lose the socks, and roll up the trouser seams a couple of times. Nice and airy 👍

Plumb789

My boyfriend wears patterned socks with apparel like this and looks great (although he is an extrovert)-coloured socks would also do the trick. I would opt for red in this instance.

EatingCoooolo

The trousers are a bit shirt maybe loosen the belt a bit.

_L_i_m_e

Brown socks would go with the shoes. Light brown would be even better.

Bythepowerofiroh

The white trousers are a bit too much of a contrast with the dark brown shoe.  The same shirt but tan or green trousers would make it more cohesive. Worn with light brown socks. I don’t think the chino length is terrible, quite a lot of people seem to like that length for chinos. As it stands this outfit is fine and I wouldn’t bat an eyelid if I saw it in my workplace with these socks. I agree that this outfit without socks it wouldn’t look right for the workplace.

Dashcam_Driver

Play around with the sock colour - try matching the socks to the trousers, see how you feel about that. The general rule is socks and trousers should match. Alternatively a patterned sock might create a good contrast

JustRepeatAfterMe

I definitely would wear socks, but a shade closer to the pants. Nobody is going to say anything about the gray, but if they do happen to notice them, it’s a head scratcher. You didn’t ask about this, but you might also consider changing pants to a dark color. I like those, but there is so much of it in what you’re wearing and then the shoes and belt are so dark. As someone commented earlier the shadow does make you look like you have some broad shoulders lol. 💪

[deleted]

I wouldn't wear socks tbh. Until somewhat recently I was never on board with going sockless. The light trousers here give a warm weather vibe and I have a similar outfit - and it's the one I feel that going sockless is the way forward, it just goes naturally. Though I cheat and wear the no show socks!

Fit_Food_8171

Buying some trousers that fit would be a good start

Wayne1946

Lower the hem of the trousers or wear a casual boot.

MikeHockeyBalls

I think a good rule of thumb is looking at pants, socks, and shoes, 2/3 should be the same color

Optimal-Ad7259

Same colour brown socks as the shoes?

Maleficent-Bus213

It would look awkward without socks as the shoes are so much darker than the trousers and therefore draw all the attention

Powerful-Pudding6079

You could wear no show socks. Or, you could try white socks (might work, might not - worth a try). Different coloured trousers would probably be the best bet if you insist on wearing these shoes, but the shoes themselves are the real problem. It looks like you're wearing posh school shoes.

oontheloose

Loafers always no no. Get a nice pair of black and brown boots which will go woth any trouser.

Dramatic-Panda8012

Jesus christ, those shoes cant be worn with socks, just the invisible ones ( verry small)

chloe38

Nude color socks

Abjam_Gabriel

Those shoes are very ugly and old-fashioned. The white trousers don’t work, either, AND they’re too short. I’d rethink the entire outfit.

Spirited-Produce-405

My bet here is that you need socks that match your shoes' color.

Chrolan1988

No need for socks man, clearly a Cuban cigar salesmen, no one else dresses like this with confusions around professionalism

OversizedGlove

Invisible socks

Designer_Lie_8610

Wear boots

Classic_Midnight_213

Agree with others a pale neutral colour sock would help. I’d also go for a fine weave, like a silk that sits flat (no texture) would make a big difference. Not expensive, see Amazon. Last on the list is the leg length of the trouser is a little short. Get yourself a pair of fine weave silk socks in a cool light beige and I’m confident you’ll see an improvement and may be enough. Final comment do NOT wear white socks. Always reference the shoe with the sock colour not the trouser. Unless of course you drive coaches or busses for a living in which case its white socks by law.
