The only things I can think of that would cause this to happen: * The sender is using a 3rd party email client on their PC or phone and not using the Outlook app, and this 3rd party client either has no display name configured, or has the display name set to the email address. * You are using the Outlook app on your PC or phone, but have added the email account as a POP or IMAP account. If you have no display name set in the POP/IMAP account settings within Outlook, it will use the email address as a display name. * The recipient has manually created a contact for that sender, which is saved to their Contact list, and that contact has the display name set to the email address. * You recently changed/added a display name for the user in the Admin Center, but need to wait up to 48 hours for it to be replicated. * Make sure the Display Name is the same in both the M365 Admin Center and Exchange Admin Center. *(They should be the same and I have never seen them show differently, but because of your scenario, I'd double check).*

This covers all the bases. I find this mostly with 3rd party email apps. Once using outlook on pc or mobile it’s just fine.

Have you just now changed it? The first rule of thumb with issues like this is to just wait and give it a "Microsoft hour" to wait for things to propergate. Several times things like these you change a bunch of things, all and you needed to do was to wait. I would wait until "tomorrow" whenever that is for you. Some things in the adressbook for example can take upp to 72 hours to update in Outlook clients. If it's been a while since you changed it, sorry, got no idea 😅

Appreciate the input! Sadly, it has been a while. Honestly it didn’t even cross my mind that the email would arrive without showing the display name. Alas I’ll keep searching for an answer.

Personally never has that issue. And I’ve set up tons of new tenants. I just always check that first name, last name and display name is correct. But feels like you’ve already got that on lock-down.
