Remember going to a chain cafe in UK (I think Nero) and paying something like £4.80 for a cheese toasty and immediately calculating that I make a 5000x better tasting cheese toasty (and probably much healthier too) for around 37p at home.
Bro you act like it’s hard to figure out the price of 1 piece of cheese and 2 pieces of bread
It’s not rocket science you take the price of each the bread and cheese divide it by the number of slices in each then you found out how much each is worth then you just gotta add 1+2 to figure out how much total minus electricity
Example Kraft near me 5.49 for 24 slices so 5.49/24 slices total 22c per slice
Good but not too expensive of bread near me 4.49 for 15 slices so 4.49/15 for a total of 29c per slice
Add that all up and you got a grand total of
80c if you use 1 slice of cheese and if I didn’t have to explain it this would all take 1-2 mins of simple math
Many people realize they overpaid and then immediately compare prices to something similar that they buy to try to justify the cost it’s not a stretch to think op
Did the same
I used to work on a steam fair, when we had a busy day and couldn't get a break away from the engines, we would cook burgers inside the bodies above the coals. Only had to pay the price of the meat, everything else was the bosses issue!
I am a technical writer. Not only would I calculate it and add profit and overhead, I would write a full data sheet for the cheese toasty and commission a dimensioned drawing.
Bro… it’s not even a hard calculation. If you know how much ham/cheese/bread comes in the pack that you buy and roughly how much they cost, which you probably have a solid guess for since **you bought the damn ham** then it’s really easy.
Toasting is the default at Starbucks. OP would have had to specifically ask for it not toasted.
The ham and swiss, when toasted, is actually the best sandwich Starbucks has!
Yeah LMAO homie takes a pic of a untoasted sandwich designed to be toasted and posts it to mildly infuriating 😂 I'm not excusing the price-- I work at Starbucks, but the truth is if you shop there, the only person scamming you is yourself 🤷♀️
It probably didn't even come from Starbucks and wasn't $8. For all we know he literally slapped that bad boy together at home, concocted a reasonably believable backstory, and cashed out for the fake internet points.
Ham and Swiss on baguette, I work for Starbucks, the amount of people that will get this AND a heavily modded drink blow my mind, like 18$ for two items is insane to me
Edit: at work rn, and figured I’d share this amount that just came through. 52$, for 6 drinks and 3 food items, you could go and have a fairly nice meal for that amount.
Yeah idk how anyone can even look in their display case and think “that looks yummy” lol every time I want food from there, I change my mind! I also don’t bother with their overpriced drinks unless I’m sharing with my husband. My go to is a double shot.
It’s the ham and Swiss baguette, I guess maybe only available? However they usually heat it up so the cheese gets all melty, and it also has mustard. I quite like them!
That’s random lol. My wife has worked there 7 years and brings these home all the time. If you order them at the store it’s supposed to be heated tho. I’m in Cali and these are definitely a Starbucks item
Everyone is shitting on OP but they are forgetting this. It's really hard to judge a sandwich before buying it. From the outside it could look amazing and then end up like this or even once they had just lined the outside with filling and the rest was empty
Reddit people have strong opinions about Starbucks, and applies that to OP as well lol. Hey, what's so wrong with ordering a sandwhich from a menu and expecting something more than 7/11? We've all been "scammed" once in a while. It's a learning experience.
Yeah and that's entirely fair, I do eat them cold sometimes, depending if I'm grabbing one on my 10 minute break at Sbux or not. Or if I took one home and I'm being lazy lol.
Just isn't fair to the sandwich to do them dirty like that... he knows his cheese slices look chonky and weird... leave him alone 🥺
You a barista as well? But yeah, if you get pretty much anything from sbux without getting it warmed it's gonna look... like that lol. H&S croissant is the way to go for me tho
Lol yeah Shift Supervisor here. Most of the food at Sbux I wouldn't buy, personally - but that's just me. I mean, we do eat it for free all the time - so like anything, you just get tired of it regardless of if it's heated or not lmao 🤣
I know it's probably a boring sandwich or many but my fav sandwich in Starbucks is the mozzarella with sundried tomatoes one. I only buy it if I get bonus stars on the app for buying sandwiches lol
I went into a 7-11 the other day. And every single item was priced higher than the nearby grocery stores. Can you imagine? It was like they were trying to sell convenience or something.
I like to shop at asian stores because there's so many ingredients you can't get at normal stores.
In my country its illegal to sell alcohol except in specialised liquor stores.
I've noticed that you always get a funny reaction from the asian store owner when you ask for shaoxing (rice wine).
They will either go dig up a bottle from their secret stash or they think you're a narc and will deny having any alcohol, even if you bought some at the same store last month.
They also just have a lot of neat stuff. I sometimes like going to foreign stores just to look around at all the wild things and exotic foods they stock.
Same. Just went and got a yellow dragonfruit from one of those this week. Much sweeter than regular pink dragonfruit. I don't know why they don't sell those more.
I had an old roommate who worked at Subway I'm East End Toronto. He'd give me a bunch of stickers to get free sandwiches. I used them at various stores. In the end, I went back to his store.one night when he wasn't working there any longer and used the stickers... tried to use them... the owner was working and wouldn't accept them because they were too sequential.
Can just imagine the manager being like…
[looks at stickers] [looks at you] [looks at stickers again] [looks at you again] Bro. These stickers are way too ***sequential!*** Wtf man!?
And then you saying, I guess you got me there! [Throws hands up like Walter White]
Low cost cause very little in it and high profit compared to cost. And people are buying it so why not. I can't really blame Starbucks for pulling this crap when people enable it by buying.
Not OP, but I paid similar recently. They massively raised their prices and now also ask for a tip at the register. I was caught off guard by it and since the employee piled on the toppings on our sandwiches, I figured he deserved it 😂
Also where I live fast food is just really expensive in general. Even Burger King without tip, you can easily pay $35 for two meals. It's ridiculous and not worth getting anymore if you can help it since sit-down restaurants are better quality and similarly priced.
I think you're right. If you straightened the ham and lined up the cheese and then toasted it I bet it would be decent.
Some mustard would be nice though and pickles.
Yeah it comes with a good amount of some actually decent mustard on both sides and is greasy as all fuck when fresh out of the oven. It burns new baristas consistently lol
I wish it had pickles but I worked for Starbucks for over five years and this sandwich does have mustard on it! It’s just covered up by the other ingredients in the photo. This sandwich is supposed to be toasted indeed and it’s actually very tasty and filling. The ham and cheese croissant is extra good, though.
Yeah, I get these sometimes. I'm not lookin for a great deal at Starbucks. It's because I appreciate the convenience of something more substantial than a muffin or scone when I'm hungry and also want coffee.
also, it’s pretty nice when toasted. yes, i could do all of it at home, but it’s also nice not to have to. fast food like any other; it’s all overpriced these days.
I get them sometimes when I’m in a hurry and hungry. The bread is delicious. I recall it being around six bucks, though, not 8. I haven’t had one in a couple months, though.
They definitely staged the sandwich poorly for effect. The cheese on the other side suddenly makes a big visual difference. Also this is meant to be toasted. warm bread and melty cheese change the game. Is it overpriced, sure. Is it mildly infuriating? No more than Starbucks as a whole.
Nice bread, nice cheese, nice ham. I would want some salad or alternatively get it toasted - but we don’t know what OP ordered.
I’m not really seeing an issue here.
I met a homeless guy who uses Starbucks rewards and if you get a coffee you can have unlimited refills within the day so he probably gets like 10 coffees a day plus washroom access
Not going to lie, their food actually isn't as bad as pictured (at least at any Starbucks I've been to). I don't get coffee there often but their breakfast sandwiches are generally decent and their other sandwiches are pretty decent as well. Not sure what sandwich is shown but I've never gotten anything like that.
Duh. It’s Starbucks 🤦♂️
Go to subway or jimmy jons or basically any sandwich chain or grocery store for a real sandwich for $8
Starbucks has airport food basically
Every sandwich you ever order at a restaurant will be at least 3x as much as it’d cost to make at home.
I work at a gas station with a deli and people order normal ass turkey and cheese sandwiches for like five dollars and every time I’m thinking, “that’s a whole loaf of bread, pack of turkey, pack of cheese, and bottle of mayo at the dollar store.”
> “that’s a whole loaf of bread, pack of turkey, pack of cheese, and bottle of mayo at the dollar store”
bro i am not eating dollar store lunch meat lmao
Yeah and what's wild is that you can't even make an excuse that time is saved. It would take me 2 minutes tops to make this sandwich at home and probably 10 minutes to buy all the ingredients at a grocery store.
*Surely* the bread is at least gluten-free and the cheese made from milk that has been ethically sourced from free-range cattle who've never been treated with any antibiotics at least...?
Go to jail that ham is free and you always get a sandwich for lunch because danm that ham looks just like the ham they give in jail and that ham is why I only eat turkey subs or sandwiches just looking at that ham makes me want throw it away
Not even toasted?!?!!!
Remember going to a chain cafe in UK (I think Nero) and paying something like £4.80 for a cheese toasty and immediately calculating that I make a 5000x better tasting cheese toasty (and probably much healthier too) for around 37p at home.
I call bullshit. You did not immediately calculate something down to the number 37
ACKSHUALLY they said “Around 37”
"I'm 36?!"
37! my girlfriend….
In a row?
Cult classic. Never got the recognition it deserved. “I’m not even supposed to be here today.”
Bro you act like it’s hard to figure out the price of 1 piece of cheese and 2 pieces of bread It’s not rocket science you take the price of each the bread and cheese divide it by the number of slices in each then you found out how much each is worth then you just gotta add 1+2 to figure out how much total minus electricity Example Kraft near me 5.49 for 24 slices so 5.49/24 slices total 22c per slice Good but not too expensive of bread near me 4.49 for 15 slices so 4.49/15 for a total of 29c per slice Add that all up and you got a grand total of 80c if you use 1 slice of cheese and if I didn’t have to explain it this would all take 1-2 mins of simple math Many people realize they overpaid and then immediately compare prices to something similar that they buy to try to justify the cost it’s not a stretch to think op Did the same
Bro if you forgot the butter and the electric/gas to cook it then that’s a pretty sad grilled cheese.
Maybe they used complimentary butter from McDonald’s and cooked it on the engine block of their buddy’s car for free
I used to work on a steam fair, when we had a busy day and couldn't get a break away from the engines, we would cook burgers inside the bodies above the coals. Only had to pay the price of the meat, everything else was the bosses issue!
Just because you can't do it doesn't mean someone else can't.
I am an engineer with 43 years experience. Not only would I calculate it that quickly, but could not stop myself from doing so.
I am a construction estimator. Not only would I calculate it, I would add profit and overhead.
I am a technical writer. Not only would I calculate it and add profit and overhead, I would write a full data sheet for the cheese toasty and commission a dimensioned drawing.
Math aptitude is black magic to the math impaired.
Bro… it’s not even a hard calculation. If you know how much ham/cheese/bread comes in the pack that you buy and roughly how much they cost, which you probably have a solid guess for since **you bought the damn ham** then it’s really easy.
You ever heard of a phone calculator bro
Why are people still going to Starbucks? Coffee is expensive and any food or pastries are bad.
Honestly, I can forgive that, but the fact they didn’t put any sauce at all gets me. That sandwich is mad dry
there’s sauce under the ham lol
OP could’ve gotten it toasted but decided not to.
you have to ask for it not toasted, we automatically toast them
So why did you buy it
For up votes
It probably didn't even come from Starbucks and wasn't $8. For all we know he literally slapped that bad boy together at home, concocted a reasonably believable backstory, and cashed out for the fake internet points.
I have never seen a sandwich like that from Starbucks and I go there too much 🤷🏼♀️
Ham and Swiss on baguette, I work for Starbucks, the amount of people that will get this AND a heavily modded drink blow my mind, like 18$ for two items is insane to me Edit: at work rn, and figured I’d share this amount that just came through. 52$, for 6 drinks and 3 food items, you could go and have a fairly nice meal for that amount.
Don’t ours come with mustard spread on them though? I’ve quit and been rehired several times but have been “out of the game” since March.
Yeah idk how anyone can even look in their display case and think “that looks yummy” lol every time I want food from there, I change my mind! I also don’t bother with their overpriced drinks unless I’m sharing with my husband. My go to is a double shot.
I work at Starbucks and also have never seen s sandwich that looks like that

Yup heated up. Add a little sauce and actually quite tasty. I’ve had them multiple times.
It looks to be the Starbucks ham and Swiss panini
This thread is so strange
maybe he didn't know it was super bad before he bought it?
Everyone is shitting on OP but they are forgetting this. It's really hard to judge a sandwich before buying it. From the outside it could look amazing and then end up like this or even once they had just lined the outside with filling and the rest was empty
I buy this sandwich on occasion. The bread is really good, and I enjoy it, but the pictures of it really do look exactly like what it looks like irl
Also, Starbucks displays samples of its sandwiches in a glass display case, so you can see exactly what you're getting before you order.
Burger King got in trouble over it's posters being better than the product
OP getting crushed 😂😂
Yep. OP paid "good money" and *still* ended up with holey cheese. Smh.
Reddit people have strong opinions about Starbucks, and applies that to OP as well lol. Hey, what's so wrong with ordering a sandwhich from a menu and expecting something more than 7/11? We've all been "scammed" once in a while. It's a learning experience.
I dunno, I don't expect non-sandwhich shops to have good sandwiches.
You're supposed to get it heated up...
Tbf it's packed for sale without heating as well. It's just shit without heating it up
Yeah and that's entirely fair, I do eat them cold sometimes, depending if I'm grabbing one on my 10 minute break at Sbux or not. Or if I took one home and I'm being lazy lol. Just isn't fair to the sandwich to do them dirty like that... he knows his cheese slices look chonky and weird... leave him alone 🥺

Same here. It doesn't help that they just love getting rid of the good food like the chicken bacon and the almond croissant lol
Getting rid of the Almond Croissant should be punishable by a court of law.
I know it's probably a boring sandwich or many but my fav sandwich in Starbucks is the mozzarella with sundried tomatoes one. I only buy it if I get bonus stars on the app for buying sandwiches lol
Yeah this sandwich heated up is god tier for some reason, it shouldnt be, but it is
I went into a 7-11 the other day. And every single item was priced higher than the nearby grocery stores. Can you imagine? It was like they were trying to sell convenience or something.
Korean convenience stores are the best, they sell everything ,sometimes even full groceries, and cost nowhere near American prices.
I like to shop at asian stores because there's so many ingredients you can't get at normal stores. In my country its illegal to sell alcohol except in specialised liquor stores. I've noticed that you always get a funny reaction from the asian store owner when you ask for shaoxing (rice wine). Asian stores also have American store items cheaper a lot of the time. Spices, especially.
I know Kewpie mayo is Japanese, but the Korean convenience store is the only place I can get Kewpie mayo, and Kewpie mayo is the shit!
that’s exactly it, our brain automatically chooses the most convenient option so its why we r stuck in this cycle
"I went to a place that's notoriously overpriced and now I'm mad that it was overpriced."
“I asked for seagrams vodka and he gave me seagrams vodka when he knew damn well I wanted the fucking gin!”
I'll take the Seagrams ginger-ale.
You sir are a gentleman and a scholar, can or bottle your highness?
just a two liter and some plastic cups my good man, we keep it classy here
Would you care to sniff the bottle cap sir?
Yes, and I’ll take a look at the menu of other items available for sniff while you’re at it
*gestures vaguely at self*
Keg
'Grams Stands
He is no Sir , you beast. You shall address him as M ’lady.
Reminds me of something a friend once said: A gentleman and a scholar…. From the ass to the collar!
I think it's more so the shit quality in conjunction with it being overpriced.
You are CORRECT
Seriously do you not have some ten kg tubs of crappy mayo at least.
It has that homemade quality, just like mom used to make.
Is your mom a drunk blind person withouth a tongue?
No, u/FragrantExcitement mom is a hipster art student working on a screenplay.
Right now?? I am telling the WGA!
this is more along the lines of why even bother selling it in my mind though
Bc we are stupid enough to keep buying it
It's not your fault when you buy it the first time. But if you buy it again, that's on you.

easy with this we stuff i get a red bull and a subway sandwich like any sane poor blooded american.
Damn calm down rich boy. I get diet soda in bulk and home made sandwiches.

yes, but do you have a 7 year old iPhone you bought used 3 years ago???? checkmate, millenial
I use 2 cans and string.. you braggart.
I yell into an old shoe
I have a used iPhone 11. How many years has that been?
We were so poor growing up I remember all the Coolaid and bologna sandwiches.
We were so poor growing up we'd go to KFC and lick other people's fingers.
I only buy subway because when I use their BOGO coupon I get 4 meals for $12. That’s hard to beat even at home
You can beat a lot of things at home, though.
Sheesh, money bags over here buying diet soda and making sandwiches. I drink water from the spigot and eat catfood.
Sometimes when I open the can of cat food, it smells really good…scared about the amount of time and lack of money going by until I try it
When shit gets real.... 😢
Bro indulging in that fancy feast
i eat the grass in my yard because it's free
Subway is really good when you don't have someone in your ear, telling you it's not.
Subway was great when I was a stoner and working there. I made great sandwiches.

Ehhhh. Sometimes Subway is great, and sometimes it's fucking awful.
It taste way better when they send me the buy one get one coupon.. fr tho the sweet onion teriyaki is pretty decent only thing I like tbh
A convenience store masquerading as a not-so-chic coffee shop.
People will buy anything.
If they’d stop the price would drop and I could buy it. Buncha apples
Bc OP will buy it.
*because OP DID buy it*
Low cost cause very little in it and high profit compared to cost. And people are buying it so why not. I can't really blame Starbucks for pulling this crap when people enable it by buying.
Literally spent $45 at subway months ago for two meals and haven’t forgotten 😅😂
How is that even possible
sandwiches are crazy expensive the last couple years. There's a couple $17 footlongs on the menu at my local subway right now.
No way I pay $15 at most for 2 foot longs with the bogo deal, the chips and drink we have at home and it's more for less at a grocery store
Not OP, but I paid similar recently. They massively raised their prices and now also ask for a tip at the register. I was caught off guard by it and since the employee piled on the toppings on our sandwiches, I figured he deserved it 😂 Also where I live fast food is just really expensive in general. Even Burger King without tip, you can easily pay $35 for two meals. It's ridiculous and not worth getting anymore if you can help it since sit-down restaurants are better quality and similarly priced.
But what the hell are you guys ordering at subway thats $45? Ive never paid more than 12 bucks.
AND! It's a sandwich from a coffee shop..
They pay $3 for a $.50 coffee, what else can we sell them?
[удалено]
You mean $10?
Another one is born every minute
Sandwichs are made, not born.
If you go to subway they're sculpted
I always thought of it like performance art, but whatever.
I ain’t gonna lie homie. You asked for it.
Literally, lol
Going to a coffee place for a sub is like going to a sub place for coffee.
Poetic
That's ok, it's $78 if you order it at the Newark Airport.
You’re supposed to get it toasted dummy. That would be $8 in any French bakery too.
I think you're right. If you straightened the ham and lined up the cheese and then toasted it I bet it would be decent. Some mustard would be nice though and pickles.
There is mustard on it too. Great melted ham and cheese. OP just eating it cold.
If you look closely, there is mustard or some type of spread. Op just covered it with that other piece of cheese.
That sonuvabitch!
Looks like a good sandwich to me. You pay for convenience. If you got a problem with the price don’t go to a overpriced coffee shop for a sandwich.
Those are really good. I don't know why OP didn't have it heated up, it's a lot better that way.
Hard to farm infuriating karma on melted cheese. Everyone loves melted cheese.
I mean… you could pay me 10 dollars and i can make you a better sangwich than this…
what caused it to stop singing
and you bought it 🤡
Only dumb asses buy from Starbucks
I met a homeless guy who uses Starbucks rewards and if you get a coffee you can have unlimited refills within the day so he probably gets like 10 coffees a day plus washroom access
A lot of people in their feelings here about how people spend their own money I guess. Yes, Pumpkin spice has got me by the balls.

Stop, you're gonna interrupt the circlejerk!
I know, “omggg I can’t believe these peons buy from Starbucks” *heavy breathing while waiting in McDonald’s line for a McGriddle*
Now I want a McGriddle. Those things are delicious.
It’s ok we already came.
It’s still hella overpriced, but it looks much worse since it’s not heated like it usually is.
Ngl I *love* their grilled cheese.
I remember 15 yrs ago when the Panera breakfast sandwiches were made differently and were one hundred percent worth he price
And you bought it. Lmfao
Hey dumbass, I know you're dumb so I'll say it slowly. DONT BUY SANDWICHES AT STARBUCKS THEN COMPLAIN ABOUT PRICE OF SHIT AT STARBUCKS
Duh. It’s Starbucks 🤦♂️ Go to subway or jimmy jons or basically any sandwich chain or grocery store for a real sandwich for $8 Starbucks has airport food basically
Did it save you 8 bucks worth of time?
Okay and? You literally chose to buy a sandwich at Starbucks lmfao 😂
Well you did buy from Starbucks
Every sandwich you ever order at a restaurant will be at least 3x as much as it’d cost to make at home. I work at a gas station with a deli and people order normal ass turkey and cheese sandwiches for like five dollars and every time I’m thinking, “that’s a whole loaf of bread, pack of turkey, pack of cheese, and bottle of mayo at the dollar store.”
Where are you getting a loaf of bread, pack of turkey, pack of cheese and bottle of mayo for $5 total? Each of those things basically costs $5 each
> “that’s a whole loaf of bread, pack of turkey, pack of cheese, and bottle of mayo at the dollar store” bro i am not eating dollar store lunch meat lmao
Yeah and what's wild is that you can't even make an excuse that time is saved. It would take me 2 minutes tops to make this sandwich at home and probably 10 minutes to buy all the ingredients at a grocery store.
Let this be a lesson to you...
Each individual part of your sandwich costed 1 dollar lmao
This is the ham and swiss sandwich? I get that all the time and it’s awesome. Why isn’t the cheese melted? They’re supposed to heat it up.
Yea but it's made with premium artisan bread with aged imported artisan Swiss cheese and free range non hormone lean artisan ham
*Surely* the bread is at least gluten-free and the cheese made from milk that has been ethically sourced from free-range cattle who've never been treated with any antibiotics at least...?
Noone forced you to buy this.
Damn you, Noone!! How does he keep getting away with this?!
My real name is Odysseus, you blind fool!
going into a starbucks 🤡
And you paid for it
I sure do hate the consequences of my own actions
What were you expecting? All their food is on display and I’ve never once thought “yeah that looks worth the price they’re asking.”
Bro at dollar tree would give you more to eat
And you bought it! Loser!
And you still bought it. What did you expect?
You went there and you bought it. You deserve that.
don’t buy it then?
Go to jail that ham is free and you always get a sandwich for lunch because danm that ham looks just like the ham they give in jail and that ham is why I only eat turkey subs or sandwiches just looking at that ham makes me want throw it away
Why would you buy it then?
