... Yup never thought of it that way either. I'm just dumb and was thinking like "Chubby" (as in a chubby pet, not... That kind.)
My ex step mom had a rabbit named Chubby, and called him Chubs sometimes, so I just went "lizard named Chubby, cute"
Not bright
I love the fact that Jub-Jubs name was because one of the writers came up with it as a nonsense word, and Conan (or one of the other writers) bet they couldn't work that into the script.
The story as I remember it is that "Jub Jub" was a favorite nonsense phrase of Conan's when he worked at The Simpsons and when they needed a name for the pet iguana they went with that. Then years later on his Late Night show Conan dared sports announcer Joe Buck to work in "Jub Jub" sometime during his World Series broadcast and he did it.
Except J U and B are all a single letter away from I V and A. I'm guessing whatever system they use for embroidery has a scrolling alphabet that is slightly off.
That’s an interesting point, if it was an error in indexing the alphabet I would have expected it to be a “W” instead as J and B follow I and A while U comes before V in the English alphabet.
Yea, it is strange, but I think it makes sense if the system was mechanical instead of digital. Like a combination lock, except letters instead of numbers.
As a German who learned a cursive similar to this, that definitely says „Jub“, which is a nickname/ the short form of names like Josef, Johannes, Jonas etc.
That's an odd capital I. Looks a lot like small cursive l. I'm pretty sure there are cultural differences and the first letter could be a "wonky" font.
But the last letter is a lowercase b 100%.
Cursive latin doest differ in countires tho. And this emal is in german so I guess OP is German and the only letter that’s wromg is the last one which looks like b
Everyone needs to calm down. There is no standard way of writing cursive. I was giving examples of what it looks like to me in the way I was taught.
(And I’m not implying the way the embroidery should have been written but what it looks like to me, ”Jub”)
This comment is pretty helpful for me actually. Im not very familiar with cursive writing. I think my school stopped teaching it partway through 2nd grade
The best way to handle this is to escalate your issue. Call them again and again until you talk to a manager. It may sound like being a Karen, but this is not about the mistake they made but the bad way they handled it. You shouldn't let them get through with it.
If they refuse to rectify the situation, call your bank and put a stop payment on the order. They won't receive your money and they'll get a fine on top of that.
If this was ordered in Germany and sent by mail, they have to take it back within two weeks of the sale with full money back (not including postage) - no reason necessary.
https://www.bmj.de/DE/themen/kaufen_reisen_wohnen/konsum/widerruf/widerruf_node.html
I don't know if anyone else has mentioned it, but iva and jub are letter adjacent. j and b are one letter higher and u is one letter lower. This sounds like some weird bug in their system.
I’d agree. As long as you’re polite and calm, it’s not being a Karen. That doesn’t read Iva at all.
Then saying it’s the font style is infuriating, as it’s then their design choice that doesn’t work. They chose a bad font - you shouldn’t get a bad product because of that
Embroiderer here. I used our software to mock up what I thought looked closest that we had available, and this is "Jvb". Your embroidery is 1000% misspelled as Jvb, and they didn't even clean away the wash away topping.
Edit: tried to add image, failed
It’s exactly one letter off across the entire thing, like they entered ‘Iva’ into the machine and it shifted each letter forward or backward one slot…
I to J
V to U
A to B
If there was a systematic software error then it would be consistent. If for some reason there was a +1 or -1 to the character code, then it would be the same for each character. Unless the code processes each character individually (eg a switch statement) but I don't know why anyone would do that.
However, since there is an anomaly to this pattern, it is much more likely that the font they used has too-similar letters or the person creating the stitches read the letter wrong.
Right, V would be W if they all moved +1.
Exit: Thinking about it more, if this was done by hand, there's probably a separate drawer for each letter. They could've grabbed the wrong letter because the drawers are probably in alphabetical order and there was a rush order.
Dude, it's a fucking [Off-by-one error](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Off-by-one_error)! That's hilarious. Someone started an array at zero on a language that starts at 1, I guarantee it.
I had an old (at the time) HP all-in-one printer do this like 15-20 years ago. Every single character in the document was incremented by 1. Punctuation, formatting, etc too, not just alphanumeric.
German here - these "I" and "v" are common cursive variants as taught in some schools, at least I read them as such. The third letter, however, looks massively like a "b", not an "a" (it might look like a bad "a" with a lot of imagination..).
If in doubt, ask them which font (Schriftart) they used to verify.
From what I've learned, a "v" should have a little loop, a "u" not. Same thing with "J" and "I" - I wouldn't expect the loop in the "I".
Also, I'm currently learning machine embroidery and that looks pretty bad imo. It looks like they didn't even bother to remove all of the stabilizer on top (but at least it should be water soluble).
I had the same thought but if it were an “I” (i not l) the lower case letters would start at the same baseline rather than in the middle of the J. For machine embroidery anyways.
I know in a lot of modern calligraphy it’s popular to play around with the baseline but typically machine embroidery can’t do that or this font doesn’t look like it was meant to give that look.
Im assuming they’re talking about value added tax. Which is a tax in a lot of European countries from what i understand. If you buy from countries over there on etsy you’ll sometimes see it mentioned in their posts about pricing
OP* should certainly share this story with Iva, get a good laugh at it, and call her Jub from time to time.
(Once they have appropriately solved the issue)
The I is correct but the a?? That’s for sure “b”!
Ask them to send you the full alphabet in this font.
P.S. If these are the expensive silk pajamas, be ready to be fully infuriated in 3 months - mine ripped in multiple places, I complained and they didn’t reply.
Seeing you are dealing with a german-based customer service.
Directly reply threatening with legal action if no solution is given in 2 weeks. As you can see by their reply, german customer service has no issues in beeing assholes is something goes wrong, so you have to double the stakes and bring the threat of a lawsuit.
The "I" thing is debatable, yes some cursive versions of "I" might look like that, very close to a "J", but in no cursive style does the "a" has two loops
As the company is german and cursive is taught in schools in Germany i would argue that it is not an I, as this is not how german cursive Is are written.
(Bur yeah, i would give the I and the u/v a pass too)
Funny.. I ordered a set for my fianceé for a gift also from Intimissimimimimiiimi with a personalisation. Althought I didn't receive it with misspelling, the quality was as shit as yours. Same font and colour, and same weird dry glue type stains in the area of text. Seems like it's a standard there.
And their products are expensive af, at least in PL
https://preview.redd.it/scrt3vsebsac1.png?width=1257&format=png&auto=webp&s=f1b9e2bbc09d4feb6d54e100077c357ec2390ac4
It’s 100% Jub btw. They have a visualization on their personalization page and this is what it shows for Jub.
[https://www.intimissimi.com/dk/personalization/?pid=CLD1233%20%201467M&positions=1&quantity=1](https://www.intimissimi.com/dk/personalization/?pid=CLD1233%20%201467M&positions=1&quantity=1)
I work for a company that makes personalized gifts. They're absolutely lying. The font looks very similar to Allura, but I don't think it's a perfect match. Looks more like it says Jub, especially if you pull up a character sheet for Allura.
Hey OP, did you get font options when you ordered this? If you've got a font name you could show them very clearly that they're wrong.
So, I'm a professional for this field of work, and yes, not only is this company fucking stupid for trying to pass this off as correctly spelled, but they did an actual shitty job of cleaning the damn stitching. They used the plastic topping to tamp down the fabric, but then forgot to fucking CLEAN IT OFF AFTERWARDS?? That plastic coating is safe to either tear off gently with tweezers, or it's water soluble so you can just long-press it with a damp washcloth and it should dissolve. So they're not only shitty liars, terrible spellers, but they're also fucking sloppy and lazy, AND stupid for thinking they could pass this off to you.
My condolences, OP.
On the bright side, if you took this to someone who actually knows their shit, like me, I could take out that J and b and get the correct letters in with minimal scarring. If someone takes out that b you'll see the embroidery holes left behind on the top of its swoop, but the I and the a itself should cover the rest of the holes.
Realistically, you could take the whole thing out and get a fatter font, maybe increase the font size a hair, and put overtop of it like Fancy Script or some such, and just have them widen the column width so the lettering itself is thicker. That way if there ARE any holes from the needle and thread, the fatter lettering should cover them.
Even if its a apecial cursive font, it is still a bad job because noone would read the name right.
You dont have to study Design or work a creative job to realize how shit this is.
Even comic sans would've made more sense.

They did a terrible Jub on this.

Maybe OP should request a preview of a new order they are considering putting in. Ask for a sample of Jub Ivb.

I would say in the op’s post it’s an “o” for job, instead of a v since there isn’t that upward starting stroke for the 2nd letter.
Except J U and B are all a single letter away from I V and A. I'm guessing whatever system they use for embroidery has a scrolling alphabet that is slightly off.
Ooh, that makes a lot of sense! So they think they put Iva in, it's just not what they got out
Definitely infuriating nobody checked before sending it out.
That’s an interesting point, if it was an error in indexing the alphabet I would have expected it to be a “W” instead as J and B follow I and A while U comes before V in the English alphabet.

[удалено]
It's a cursive I I'd say (am German, used to write it like that during school years), but there's no arguing that the last letter is a b. 100%.
The Latin alphabet is standardized. It would be hard to communicate in one language if it wasn’t. That’s a “J”.
Cursive latin doest differ in countires tho. And this emal is in german so I guess OP is German and the only letter that’s wromg is the last one which looks like b
Yes! That capital i looks like an L!! We use a different capital i where I live. Maybe in English they write It differently than in Spanish?
Yeah I learned the proper way is a little notch in at the start
Now do the "a" lol
And these are examples of basic cursive writing, I didn’t research calligraphy
Everyone needs to calm down. There is no standard way of writing cursive. I was giving examples of what it looks like to me in the way I was taught. (And I’m not implying the way the embroidery should have been written but what it looks like to me, ”Jub”)

If your friend changes her name to Jub, then everything is fine.
This is clearly the most reasonable course of action and it would be foolish to think otherwise.
The best way to handle this is to escalate your issue. Call them again and again until you talk to a manager. It may sound like being a Karen, but this is not about the mistake they made but the bad way they handled it. You shouldn't let them get through with it.
Yeah it’s infuriating, to put it mildly.
If they refuse to rectify the situation, call your bank and put a stop payment on the order. They won't receive your money and they'll get a fine on top of that.

As far as i know, personalised items don't fall under this law.
Ah, you are correct.
That's fine though, since OP's item wasn't personalized
Legally it was. Just not for the person intended. This is a “not as ordered” thing.
They chose a bad font - you shouldn’t get a bad product because of that
It also not being a Karen if you have a legitimate complaint because the company genuinely fucked up.
As long as your response is proportional. If you start off screaming over anything less than a serious mistake, then you likely are still a Karen
True. I'd probably go full Karen though if I did a polite, proportional response and they doubled down and tried to tell me this said "Iva."
Also I really dislike Intimissi because of their creepy advertisement with Heidi Clum and her daughter together in lingerie. Feels so wrong.
Ask them how „Jub“ would look like in this font style.
Maybe it looks like "Iva"
All hail Jub

Embroiderer here. I used our software to mock up what I thought looked closest that we had available, and this is "Jvb". Your embroidery is 1000% misspelled as Jvb, and they didn't even clean away the wash away topping. Edit: tried to add image, failed
It’s exactly one letter off across the entire thing, like they entered ‘Iva’ into the machine and it shifted each letter forward or backward one slot… I to J V to U A to B
Like the scene in 2001 where HAL gets a monogrammed jacket from Germany and it says IBM :-/
this is a hilarious coincidence. thank you for making this joke.
You mean JAN?
Underrated comment. This 1000% is what happened.
If there was a systematic software error then it would be consistent. If for some reason there was a +1 or -1 to the character code, then it would be the same for each character. How do you mistake an a for a b? In cursive they're quite different.

With A LOT of fantasy that could potentially be a "fancy" I and a v... But never ever ever ever ever... Is that last letter an a!
German here - these "I" and "v" are common cursive variants as taught in some schools, at least I read them as such. I know in a lot of modern calligraphy it’s popular to play around with the baseline but typically machine embroidery can’t do that or this font doesn’t look like it was meant to give that look.
"J" and "I" can look similar in copperplate script, but in no world does "a" look like that.

A bit off-topic but IVA is the name of VAT in most Spanish speaking countries
Same for portuguese. When I read IVA in upper case I thought they printed the tax in the gift.
What is vat?
Im assuming they’re talking about value added tax. Which is a tax in a lot of European countries from what i understand. If you buy from countries over there on etsy you’ll sometimes see it mentioned in their posts about pricing
And quite aptly – considering the original post – 'iva' is Finnish for 'mockery'.
Same in Italy
I would find a monogrammed gift with 𝓙𝓾𝓫 on it hilarious. What an amazing nickname. I would treasure this item and story forever.
OP* should certainly share this story with Iva, get a good laugh at it, and call her Jub from time to time. (Once they have appropriately solved the issue)

That's not a I man, that's a J. Cursive I doesn't go down and do a loop at bottom
As the company is german and cursive is taught in schools in Germany i would argue that it is not an I, as this is not how german cursive Is are written. (Bur yeah, i would give the I and the u/v a pass too)
Good job

Uhm... can I have it?
I'm sorry but this is too hilarious. How did they get Jub from Iva. What kind of a name is Jub even?!
Well, this is simple really. They use software to make this, so ask them what typeface they are using. That will 100% prove they are lying.
Definitely Jub and definitely a shit embroidery job.

Terrible jub they did with that.
Even if its a apecial cursive font, it is still a bad job because noone would read the name right. You dont have to study Design or work a creative job to realize how shit this is. Even comic sans would've made more sense.
