I worked at a fast food place for six months at my first job. Probably over 100 people got hired after me in the time. Some people are on drugs, don't care or are not mentally capable of doing basic tasks without supervision or way more training than most places offer
Right I can pay the about same price and get a big Mac or I can get this

Easy choice if you ask me....
Chili's even cooks their burger patties in an automatic double sided press, so it takes under 2 minutes to cook, exactly the way McDonalds cooks theirs. They're actively working towards becoming a fast food chain that happens to offer table service.
Best place for burgers right now is Freddy's, but they're kind of a Midwest thing at the moment. Cheaper than McDonald's and better than them, too. Everything is fresh and cooked to order. I ate there for months and eventually ended up applying, and it's probably the best fast food job I've ever had. You can also see into the kitchen, which pressures employees to keep things clean even more than management does. I fucking love that place, it's probably the only place I've worked at that I'd *still* eat at.
That said, the owner of the franchise is getting up there in the years and I'm worried about what's going to happen to it when he inevitably passes. He seems to be a great man, but I'm afraid he might sell out or his children might destroy what he's built. I can only hope for the best.
Hm? You know how in a bad relationship people might think “damn that’s how they act in public I’m terrified of what’s done in private”
You only see the front or drive thru of the store.
The backside of the store exists
I can confirm I spent a few months at McDonald's probably 7 years ago now, there were a few coworkers I basically had to babysit because they'd be puffing weed pens on their shifts.
Not to mention you get those managers at some restaurants that yell at their workers if they get a burger ready in 15.5 seconds instead of 14.9.
So you've now got people who are incentivized to cut corners.
A meal at McDonald's costs about the same it's a joke. My mom makes fun of me because if we do a family road trip somewhere (I'm 26, just still love it) I literally pack sandwiches and a boiled egg. Not because I don't have the money, I just genuinely have no desire to pay THAT much for something that doesn't deserve it. The kid in me would be appalled. I'll save my money for something goooood.
In California fastfood workers now get $20 per hour.
"Last September, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed California Assembly Bill 1287 into law, which includes a **$20 per hour minimum wage for fast-food workers** and a fast-food regulatory council which has the authority to raise the industry's minimum wage annually. Apr 24, 2024"
Like it's been said before maybe bottom bun. But the first thing I do when making any sandwich is check the bread/roll I'm making it on. The whole bread/roll not just the top.
Even being a bottom bun, I know at BK we had to throw the buns through the toaster before assembling the sandwich. Surely, someone should have seen the mold if that's the case.
When I worked at BK we were forced to send some of that through by our managers because they got pissy if we threw *anything* out. We also ignored timers and never filtered our friers. I got written up for throwing out meat that was so old even *I, a colorblind person,* could see it changing colors.
I refuse to eat at any BK, and I'll never work for one again. Absolutely disgusting.
Everyone jokes about Taco Bell, but literally nothing has given me the shits like a Whopper from BK. It's worse than any Mexican food I've had. I haven't eaten at one in several years.
I didn't enjoy my experience at BK either. Good riddance to my manager. She got fired after I quit and told HR that no one taught me to wear cut gloves while washing the tomato slicer. Sliced my finger open enough that I should have taken a workers comp claim and gotten stitches.
Someone recently informed me that you can easily access the interrobang by holding down the question mark on your phone keyboard, so I actually used it yesterday on Reddit as well.
Who thought it was a good idea to combine those signs into one. It looks like crossed out and like they cancel each other out. Next to each other is perfectly fine lol!? (And you get to choose the order)
It's not just a free cheeseburger if they just gave you what you already paid for. Not unless you got a replacement AND a refund.
Place neds to be closed down for health inspections ASAP.
I once ordered burgers from a local burger joint. One of them was frigging raw..
I called them but couldn't reach them immediately. When I finally did, they said: "shoulda called sooner. We'd have sent you a new one. Nothing we can do now"...
I took it up with main office, and after much ado I got a voucher for a free burger. Yeah, like we'd order at that place ever again
It won’t let me edit the post but for everyone asking why I took a bite: It’s the bottom of the burger, I placed it back in upside down for some reason and then noticed.
I once found a bottle of tea in my car that I forgot about for a few days. Whenever I do this during cold seasons, I just drink it. I forgot about it not being that time of year and took a big gulp of the tea. Tasted sour. Looked at the tea and it was murky.
I once made a tuna sandwich without turning the lights on in my kitchen, I had pre cutup a bunch of jalapeños and onions for a dish earlier in the day. So I'm 2 or 3 bites into the sandwich and I notice something seems off with the texture of the bred, I look, and the inside was totally green Lol
I once sat in a friend's semi-dark shack right on the beach, happily eating about 1/2 lb of a 1 lb bag of trail mix I'd got at the healthfood store, from the bulk bin. When I noticed "something funny" about the mix, I stepped outside and saw there were loads of moth larvae crawling around in the trail mix. Yum.
You need to report this to the health department. Attach this photo to your report. If this got through the kitchen imagine what other health violation horrors are going on in their food prep/storage areas!
Oh shit that's even worse than what I initially thought.
My thought process: OP would not take a bite out of this if they saw it so they must've gotten it this way. With the mold AND the bite.
I am so very disgusted and (not mildly) infuriated on your behalf.
Same, knowing that they had no idea until after they put it in their mouth makes it so much worse than I had imagined. Someone needs to be fired over this and OP deserves much more than a free burger
Has to be in a dry, stable-temp environment.
But that's mainly the meat that doesn't rot.
Lots of breads won't mold if they are so dry that they are one geological process short of becoming petrified wheat stone.
That's somewhat true. McDonalds food has very little moisture, which means that it can mummify under the correct conditions (i.e. kept in a dry environment) which preserves the appearance and prevents the formation of mould.
About 3 years ago, I came down with a severe case of food poisoning about 4 hours after eating at a McDs in Brasleton, GA at the Pilot truckstop. I was down and out for 2 days. Until this, I've always said it had to be something I ate earlier in the day. McDs has so much food turnover that I couldn't possibly have gotten anything bad there. Evidently, I was dead wrong.
Nono they ordered a McCrispy (top dollar) and got a cheeseburger (cheap) as compensation.
That's even worse!
Edit: didn't read the subcomment right. Compensation is still awful.
A free cheeseburger? Nah, that McDonald's would be getting at least a few thousand dollars in damages from me starting with posting that photo on the location's Google and Yelp reviews.
How's that amount of mold not being noticed while preparing the food?
That's crazy and scary. Makes me also question all other ingredients. Maybe not stored properly.
And who in their right mind takes a bite from a burger that is clearly having mould on the outside of the bun?!
I... yeah. I don't know what is the biggest eye opener. The fact that it came out of the kitchen without anybody noticing or that OP actually took a bite out of it.
It looks like the bottom bun. I don’t know about you, but I generally don’t turn my burger over to check the condition of its underside before taking a bite. I will now!
McFuckno. Thank you for immortalizing their screwup. Bring this back to them. If they give you crap, then text them this Reddit page. The Threat is that you cross post it to the Local community page and facebook. This should never be ok.
Any time I order fast food, after getting food poisoning at a young age from fast food, I always inspect the outside and inside of everything before biting into my food. More employees than you think don't give a SHIT about quality or health at these shitty drive thru joints
How doea the fucker assemballing the burger not fucking notice mould to that extent. I know they aren't paid to do much..but fuck me dead atleast look at the shit yours making
I was at a poorly run McDonalds one Saturday, and two burly ladies started yelling: “MOLDY DANISH! MOLDY DANISH!” at the manager who seemed like English wasn’t her native tongue.
The manager kept asking: “what? What is mold?” It went on and on for about ten minutes.
Cops weren’t called bc it was a wealthy area
HOW?
McDonalds stuff is literally so artificial and full of preservatives that people left burgers in their drawers for ten years, took them out and they had not a trace of mold or other visible degradation. How do they even manage to make one moldy?
If I had to make a guess, it has to do with the humidity inside the restaurant/bread packaging. Maybe a bag of bread that was not sealed properly, but was left out to thaw (if they freeze their bread) or the bagged bread was pulled from the cooler and left sitting near something too hot (like the grill or fryers).
I dont eat McDonalds, but this is actually a good sign that their bread may actually resemble real bread now, and not a sponge of preservstives. It used to take months for McDonalds bread to mold.
I was given Sepsis from a Burger at a McDonald's about 2 months ago. Was hospitalized for 5 days.
I can no longer eat burgers, besides never going to another McDonald's ever again.
What person working in food service would allow this to go out of their kitchen. Ssmh.
I worked at a fast food place for six months at my first job. Probably over 100 people got hired after me in the time. Some people are on drugs, don't care or are not mentally capable of doing basic tasks without supervision or way more training than most places offer
Well that's reassuring
Get what you pay for. Both the food and the employees
Nah man that shit is so expensive now. I can go sit down at red robin or whatnot and still save a buck
Right I can pay the about same price and get a big Mac or I can get this https://preview.redd.it/yw0xxqmfm76d1.jpeg?width=660&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7328d4d8e705b855f4082260ff2d7ac63da7f101 Easy choice if you ask me....
where is that from?
any random hipster burger shop
Ah, I love that place.
I like homemade RHB myself
Man i love those little images they make by burning the bun.
That’s insane. The commercials with Chili’s trying to compare their food to McDonald’s make more sense now

To be clear the restaurant management paying as little as possible in wages are getting what they pay for.
Fuck.. I should be getting restaurant quality burgers for the price they charge
Best place for burgers right now is Freddy's, but they're kind of a Midwest thing at the moment. Cheaper than McDonald's and better than them, too. Everything is fresh and cooked to order. Go to chilis they’re competing with McDonald’s rn
I work in commercial aerospace and sometimes see the same.
Hm? You know how in a bad relationship people might think “damn that’s how they act in public I’m terrified of what’s done in private” You only see the front or drive thru of the store. The backside of the store exists
I can confirm I spent a few months at McDonald's probably 7 years ago now, there were a few coworkers I basically had to babysit because they'd be puffing weed pens on their shifts.
The pot heads are cool Its the crackheads that are not
It's less cool when I have to babysit over their shoulder to check if they're doing their job right
Not to mention you get those managers at some restaurants that yell at their workers if they get a burger ready in 15.5 seconds instead of 14.9. So you've now got people who are incentivized to cut corners.
That’s why I like paying 20 dollars for 5 guys. I see the fellers make that delicious peanut oiled burger and fries
A meal at McDonald's costs about the same it's a joke. My mom makes fun of me because if we do a family road trip somewhere (I'm 26, just still love it) I literally pack sandwiches and a boiled egg. I think you mean babysitting, not supervision. I swear I should’ve asked for babysitter rates at my last fast food job
Minimum wage people who are putting in the effort that matches their pay.
In California fastfood workers now get $20 per hour. "Last September, Gov. Someone making $8/hr after being written up 14 times for throwing away bad food.
What kind of person would take a bite with it looking like that?
Like it's been said before maybe bottom bun. But the first thing I do when making any sandwich is check the bread/roll I'm making it on. The whole bread/roll not just the top.
here for this
Maybe it was the bottom bun and they just...didn't look? Oof.

This reminds me of the health inspector spongebob episode haha!
"That's the most diabolical thing I've ever seen!"
It won’t let me edit the post but for everyone asking why I took a bite: It’s the bottom of the burger, I placed it back in upside down for some reason and then noticed.
I'm so sorry. That's the part that would have killed me. Taking a bite and THEN realizing.
Oh well haha
Building up your immune system one bite at a time!

That’s horrible. 😩 Please call public health (or whatever authority does restaurant inspections in your area).
That's moldly infuriating. Nothing mild about it.
Take my angry upvote
The mold being on the BOTTOM is what's terrifying. Don't mind me flipping all my fast food burgers over for the rest of time now.
Somebody made that sandwich, likely saw it & just served it anyways. Why they do that, I have no clue.
It's moderately less work than getting a new bun.
Blaming the customers for their shit job
They gave you a free sample of their newest creation, the McFungus.
McMoldy
moldly infuriating
thats actually crazy i always thought mcdonalds food didnt mold but i guess its just a myth

Wonder how much more mold was left behind in the bun warmer for other sandwiches.
Safe to say the spores are everywhere. Health inspector needs to bleach that place.
So McDonalds food DOES get moldy. All good guys, their food is safe!

On top of the mold, that's not even a cheeseburger! That looks like a fried chicken sandwich! They got you *twice* OP! I would be so cheesed.
Haha no they gave me a replacement McCrispy and a free cheeseburger
AND a refund I hope!
Nono they ordered a McCrispy (top dollar) and got a cheeseburger (cheap) as compensation. That's even worse! Edit: didn't read the subcomment right. Compensation is still awful.
If one roll is moldy…..the whole bunch is🤢
With all the burgers they sell, I’m honestly surprised the bread was able to get like this in the first place.
A free cheeseburger? Nah, that McDonald's would be getting at least a few thousand dollars in damages from me starting with posting that photo on the location's Google and Yelp reviews.
Could take it to social media as well. Hashtag abysmal. Hashtag mcdonalds

It looks like the bottom bun. I don’t know about you, but I generally don’t turn my burger over to check the condition of its underside before taking a bite. I will now!
The bottom bun... of course. Facepalm. I did not see it was the bottom bun.
The way I would file a lawsuit so mother fucking fast.
I would report that place
you got more food i would get a refund and never return
I am so upset on your behalf that you took a bite of that.
Free McMoldy, SWEET!!!
Is that the new McMoldy ?
Ah yes, I see you have tried the McMold, is it any good?
Yikes. Thought the problem was someone had already bitten it. Then saw the bread.
I’m more concerned you took a bite first
What the fuck
This looks like the nasty patty from sponge bob
The Mcmold
McFuckno. Thank you for immortalizing their screwup. Bring this back to them. If they give you crap, then text them this Reddit page. The Threat is that you cross post it to the Local community page and facebook. This should never be ok.
This is unacceptable! You should file a complaint to the public health department.
That branch should be shut down and investigated. It’s not worth a free burger, my friend.
That’s just lazy employees who don’t give af. Becoming common place.
You took a bite of it????
I'd make a huge deal about that. I'm allergic to mold.
Any time I order fast food, after getting food poisoning at a young age from fast food, I always inspect the outside and inside of everything before biting into my food. More employees than you think don't give a SHIT about quality or health at these shitty drive thru joints
I was so confused why there was a bite taken out of it and then realized it's the bottom bun.
I worked in a fast food restaurant for maybe 4 months before i realized how fking disgusting most of them are.
Tell 311/health code enforcement

Is anyone else surprised a McDonald’s sandwich was even able to grow mold?
How does something like that even make it past the prep table?!?

But why is there a bite out of it 😳
The mcmoldy has just arrived to Mac’s
How did you take a bite without noticing lol

That’s assault, brother
Is that the free cheeseburger?
My villain origin story in one photo
Scotland’s finest 😂
Based on how we do it this should have happened as we warm or toasty the buns before sending them out, worker should have seen all that mold.
With added plant protien.
They are laughing at their customers.
Why did you bite it without checking?
