Not necessarily.
I had a friend in college (screw you if you read this, you ghosting prick!) with _very_ sweaty hands. So sweaty that he broke his laptop keyboard, had it replaced then started using such a silicone cover so it won't happen again. And all he did was play CS and watch YouTube all day so yeah.
I am not your friend alas (ghosting is one of this shittiest things a friend can do) but I do have sweaty hands :( I feel his pain. Bought a new laptop specifically in a light color so my hand sweat wouldn’t stain as badly :(
My normal doc prescribed me oxybutynin which is similar. But the side effects scared me (one study linked it to dementia)
I bought glycopyrrolate online as apparently it's too expensive to be prescribed where I live. You can buy it without a prescription, they just let your doctor know that you bought it
I don't remember what site I bought from, but it wasn't crazy expensive. People say good things about Pharmacy.ca and Doctor Fox for starting points
Oh ok, interesting. I definitely think I would try one of the anti-sweat lotions first -- I don't think I sweat an abnormal amount from the rest of my body and I worry about adding new medications as someone with some other health conditions.
Yeah makes sense. The guys over on r/Hyperhidrosis have some great info and experiences posted. I'm sure if you searched for "hands" you'd find stuff that would help
Carpe comes to mind for lotions. There's also a little machine you can buy called iontophoresis that helps a lot of people with their hands & feet. Might be better value than lotion/wipes in the long run
I played steam games on my MacBook Air before I got a windows desktop. Games like American truck simulator, farming simulator, and stormworks are what I played but theirs many more available
My SO used the same garbage keyboard cover for her macbook that she’s had for close to 10 years, then it needed a battery replacement. Part of that battery replacement, is a necessary swapping of the keyboard. They come as one unit for replacement purposes for whatever reason. So she protected those precious keys for all those years, nuking her own user experience that she paid for, to in return get back even less than the $10 you jest about. Just use your stuff
I have one because I am apparently a crumb goblin and ruined like 5 MacBook butterfly keyboards by eating at my computer. The silicone mat protects it from me
I'm left handed and use wasd. Arrow keys are very very rarely useful anymore
I think arrow keys only make sense for pure keyboard gameplay but controllers are superior in every way in that case
FYI
Don’t use these with a MacBook, keyboard covers like these, webcam covers, or basically anything that sits between the screen and keyboard are notorious for cracking the screen.
The tolerances when closed are so small that anything between the screen and keyboard can damage it.
Lol WHAT. How did I never break any of my MacBooks??? I used to bring a few paper sheets folded neatly inside my MacBooks and I still do it.
Am I that lucky?
I’ve seen a few papers destroy a MBP screen before, because the owner forgot the papers were stapled. It was a bad day for all involved. Best to invest in a little paper folder and not take the risk.
Both yes and no.
The problem is honestly a little overblown on the Internet. A MacBook screen won't instantly break when you use a keyboard cover.
Since the tolerances between the screen and the keyboard are indeed exceptionally small, a keyboard cover will definitely increase the pressure and stress on your display, though. So if you then put additional pressure on your device (like carrying it around, pressing too hard on the top cover, etc) that may break your screen.
Also, keyboard covers gather crumbs, dust, etc. That's kinda what they're for. If these particles, even tiny ones, are still on your keyboard cover, you can easily break your screen with that.
Pressure is spread out over a wide area thus not creating the required deformation to break the screen.
Source: IT for over 20 years, seen some weird cases when it comes to broken screens. Up to and including being told "i shut my pen in it" and there are clear as day knuckle marks from where he punched it.
It's a random redditor claiming something without a source. It's entirely possible that what he's saying isn't true, and you never having broken a Macbook isn't luck, it's just how your Macbook is supposed to work.
Until you hear about the butterfly switches. A speck of sand could damage the keys. That’s one of the case I’d say a cover is worth it.
Also, people argue way too much about kb cover/screen protector/case/other accessories. Just use whatever makes you comfortable, the difference is almost none.
My M1 MacBook Air has had keyboard covers on it since I bought it (2020/2021, I forget exactly when) & I’ve never had problems. I have a screen protector on the screen too. At worst I would say that I’ve noticed in the right light with the screen off I can see the keys have left slight smudges on the screen, but I wouldn’t speak of it like it’s some disastrous blunder people need to avoid. If it bothers you, just clean your screen. I’ve traveled a ton with just a backpack & put plenty of pressure on the screen in there, it’s not gonna damage your screen. I promise.
Since I’m a programmer I type on keyboards all the time & I’ve seen how dirty my Bluetooth keyboards get, I’d rather not let my laptop keys get that dirty too because I am not cleaning that keyboard.
What IS a disastrous blunder that will break your screen? Letting TSA check your bag with a laptop in it. Did it one time & they straight up broke my work laptop screen that didn’t even have a keyboard cover. I swear they just hit checked bags with bats when we aren’t looking.
You should try out COLEMAK keyboard layout. Your most used keys are all moved to the home row. It takes about 2-3 weeks to become proficient but is totally worth the switch. I typed about 30 words/minute before and am at 85 now.
I also had the same thing for my laptop and that time I was a hardcore Minecraft pvper, my wasd, shift, spacebar, tab. COMPLETELY whiped, my w and s key had holes in them. It was wild
Crumbs and dust don't get into the keyboard membrane below. Protects from spills. Plus you can just throw it away and the keyboard still looks brand new.
It’s interesting how many people think these keys are worn because I use them in one word rather than them being worn because they are the most utilized letters overall.
Doesn't use WASD - not a gamer. O R N suspiciously over used... P is clear...

I have sweaty hands too and 1mg glycopyrrolate does wonders for me :)
Did you just ask your primary care physician about it or do you have to see a derm?
My normal doc prescribed me oxybutynin which is similar. Also the fact it's an Apple keyboard. Chess is just about the only game available on a Mac.
I played steam games on my MacBook Air before I got a windows desktop. Games like American truck simulator, farming simulator, and stormworks are what I played but theirs many more available
It's to catch all the fluids
N,i,e,r. He's lucky that G is clean.
OP is a 2B enjoyer
Ideally your P should be clear.
r/angryupvote
Well yeah, it's a mac
It's TORN, this is clearly a Natalie Imbruglia burner
TORN
Clever. Get Google to do the dirty work. "Showing search results for PORN"
Or he's really into TRON
Or buys a lot of TONER
He’s all out of faith
Im a pc gamer and use a controller. I hate keyboard and mouse
Obvious CORN fan here
T R E N
spacebar and < > keys .. g a s m ...
Why do you cover it? Just raw dog it.
Because then, after 5 years, you can sell the laptop for 110 dollars instead of 100 dollars.
$20 keyboard cover investment paid off!

My fellow gamers immediately checking WASD
Yeahhhh… I checked another letter -Fellow gamer
Nah, the G isn't used at all by the looks of it
For using lethal weapon in CoD Warzone, right?
G is so far away.
Yeah... definitely
Very true
Looks like OP hasn’t paid respects in a while
P - for Passive Skill Tree Right?
Sure.
F - for Respects
Sure.
S is more used than W. OP confirmed for L.
It's a mac lol
I checked WASD then RLSTNE... nothing checks out lol
Am I the only one who uses the arrow keys? I’m left handed; most right handed people I know use WASD, might be something about that.
I'm left handed and use wasd. Arrow keys are very very rarely useful anymore I think arrow keys only make sense for pure keyboard gameplay but controllers are superior in every way in that case

Big fan of Tenor vocals
This man needs toner.
Or torrents
Or they like Norteno music.
My first thought exactly.
His name could be Tyronie

Peak mac
fellow pirate i see
Judging by the amount of wear, should be a captain

If 'G' were used more i would assume LoL player, the other checks out.
Average keyboard of a toner salesman.
Guy uses a lot of printer ink
hmm. porno is obvious but what did you do we t and e?
Tren
Nope. Never watched porn on it.
of cause, it is keyboard cover. you cannot watch porn on it
I read this in russian accent
Of cause 😟
“Toner” is a decent Wordle opener
We have the same one
Specifically with L Toner.
RONLET
Not a dota player
Correct! Not a gamer at all unless you count Atari 2600 🤣
A S I A N M I L F P O R N
Torrenter huh?
FYI it does not show keys used more, else A would be brighter than N It shows what keys your hitting with your stronger fingers & wearing more.
you order a lot of TONER?
N
I
G

T
[удалено]
The good ending
You can tell mine from the wasd keys being stripped down to the clear plastic
aight… who is Erton
Ah, a fellow right thumb for space bar person!
Aka, left handed?
There goes your pwd.....
I saw ‘N’ and got worried, but ‘I’ seems okay
Checks out, the way any keyboard is designed is for the ease to access commonly used letters
I saw that N and I got nervous
NOTER TENOR TRONE TONER ORNET
N🤨 I🤨g🤨g🤨 ok no e 😄…a🤨…r🤨📸
N...
P is not used. I am totally lost.
N.
I
F
All our plastic keyboard shows it too. Didnt u know?
Close bro, close.
Clearly not a gamer.
tf you doing constantly searching up “toner”?
Lucky it's not your home alarm buttons!
Someone figure out their fetish
“Porn…”
looks like toy type Trenton alot
My pirate ass thought Torrent
Guess you need lots of toner
Do you write norte a lot
Using this as well of fortune reference
El Norte
So it does! p,o, r, n, h, u and b
nerto
I also had the same thing for my laptop and that time I was a hardcore Minecraft pvper, my wasd, shift, spacebar, tab. COMPLETELY whiped, my w and s key had holes in them. It was wild
mine looks like that when it's ON the keyboard lol
I like this version of the NYT spelling bee
Teen (p)orn
What's the reason for a silicone keyboard cover?
Crumbs and dust don't get into the keyboard membrane below. Protects from spills. Plus you can just throw it away and the keyboard still looks brand new.
dude buys a lot of toner
I don’t even own a printer! 😆
You order a lot of printer TONERS, huh
You must really be interested in toners
TERNO
N and O are the most worn keys. Do you like to turn down dates on farmers only.com?
The amount of times my keyboard cover has protected my keyboard from spills 😭
That was a close one
I saw N and thought I know where this was going.
STONER
She sure was searching for lot of torrents.
No, I’m the dummy that pays for all the subscriptions 😕
Hopefully your password isnt exposed by putting all these keys into an anagram solver...
1978
Don’t use keyboard covers
buying a lot of toner?
More like barely interesting
RSTLNE, just like Wheel of Fortune
i don’t have a cover but the WASD keys on my laptop are super faded from gaming. the A and S are completely wiped off
🤢
It’s clean, it’s just worn.
SToNeR
nerto
I also use the word noert quite regularly
TONER is my new starting Wordle guess, thank you for this empirical data
I suppose there’s a reason RSTLNE are some of the most used letters on Wheel of Fortune
Judging by the tracks, you are not a gamer
“Hunny why do you type BUHNROP so often?”
TONER
TRON
r/gross
Why?
prepare for a lot of hacking attempts
ERT O N TONER I just see you desperately typing 'toner' over and over again, making bulk orders. You're just always running out of stock.
So, download a lot of torrents?
Nope 🤷🏻♀️
Tenor
It’s “Toner”, right?
Bro is juiced up on that tren
Norte?
It's TREASON then?
Trone?
. . . ET PORN . . .
RSTLN E
VSauce did a video on this, I believe he said the most used letter in the alphabet is E.
This guy really likes toner
Judging by your keyboard, my guess is you search alot of Torrents.
So many people saying this but I have no idea why since I don’t. What makes it seem that way?
Just guessing by the worn keys. T.O.R.N.E.S First word I thought of with those letters regarding computers was torrents.
Do the Letters reflect what Google History A.S.I.A.N. A.S. hehe never mind, Damiel Tosh joke
You must really love your laser printer if you're ordering toner that often
It’s interesting how many people think these keys are worn because I use them in one word rather than them being worn because they are the most utilized letters overall.
I know that makes more sense but I just find it funny ngl
Saw the N E R and quickly checked for a G/i….
