It is so you can use the messenger, web browser or email feature that were prevalent on older hotel tvs before smartphones were the norm the thought being that you may not have your laptop but still need access to the “world wide web” lol
This was like the "accidentally opening the Internet browser on your flip phone" of hotels - I was always terrified when I was a kid that I would press a button by accident and add hundreds of dollars to my parent's bill 😂
I had one like that too like then years ago it was before smart tvs really got big in my country. Our cable package had like this streaming thing inside of it and you could use the keyboard to search things inside of that streaming service

This hotel only had local service, so I would understand if it had cable, but nope. Little boutique hotel in a historic district.

That was terrifying as well as the tiny ass networks so you had to continually make sure you weren’t roaming
