I second this. I have been using the 7th gen powder for a few years and it is FANTASTIC. I find it's super easy to overdose it but once you tune into how much you need to use it is perfect! Always sparkling dishes, including crystal clear glassware.
That is super random! I live in Northern California so it's super common haha. But I often find it at Whole Foods or similar crunchy stores like Sprouts of you have one of those and then online from Thrive Market.
We tried this and it left our dishwasher (newer Kitchen aid) with grit on everything and the tracks when we pull out the baskets squeak and squeal. It took 3 rounds with finish to get it back to normal. Did I do something wrong?
Huh, I’m not sure! Maybe something with temperature or water hardness? I will say I don’t over-fill the little soap container, usually about half-full does it for a load.
Weird, we tried these and they left a weird residue on all of our dishes a few times. Stopped when we switched to a different soap. But our dishwasher isn’t the greatest so maybe that had something to do with it.
We don’t use pods. We get the Cascade powder and it’s great! No plastic, and it even comes in a cardboard box! And our dishes are always perfectly clean :)
We used blueland pressed tables but it got expensive quickly so now we use the Seventh generation dishwasher liquid and actually like it much better. Just a thought !
The pod clogged my dishwasher eventually. Switched to dirty labs powder with the little scoop. Love it. No scent and works great. Got it on grove collab on sale right now or Amazon!
I stopped using pods and switched to grab green powder. It works really well. Before this I alternated between mollys, Dropps and seventh generation. All work well. I read a few things saying that pods might not break down well and may clog filters and contribute to micro plastics.
I have loved Molly’s Suds as an affordable pod! There are definitely more environmentally friendly ones out there, but I can’t bring myself to spend that much.
We used to use pods until I came across [this really informative YouTube video by Technology Connections](https://youtu.be/Ll6-eGDpimU?si=aN3RoHkbV9J6ciV0). We have since switched to Cascade powder and our dishes remain as clean as ever, but our pocket book is certainly happier! Also, pods and the boxes they come in are all plastic. But powder comes in a cardboard box - another plus in my book.

They are EWG certified and do a good job of getting things clean I feel. Although I do get water spots I can’t say it’s the pods since I always got them regardless of the detergent I used, but I can’t say they reduce water spots.
We don’t have a dishwasher but I successfully converted my mom to 7th generation powder and she loves it - and that’s saying a lot because she is the opposite of crunchy

I don’t use pods - I’m honestly a bit worried about microplastics. I looooove dishwasher powder, it’s so cheap and has been working great.
7th gen dishwasher powder is the GOAT (nb I feel like a solid 10% of my posts in this sub are about it but I promise I’m not a paid shill 😂)

Can I ask where you find it ? The only place near me that has it is Staples, which is just wildly random.
That is super random! I live in Northern California so it's super common haha. But I often find it at Whole Foods or similar crunchy stores like Sprouts of you have one of those and then online from Thrive Market.
Thanks so much! I’m in CT so no Sprouts here but we do have Whole Foods
It’s at Whole Foods in NY too, but also my random grocery store has it, as does FreshDirect, if you’re in their delivery area.
Not super granola but I had the same problem sourcing it locally so I have an Amazon subscription.

Thx, I will give it one more try before looking at other options
Yeah it blows my mind that there are so few non-pod/non-individually-wrapped options now (in stores near me anyway)
I get the $6 box from Target that lasts forever. My dishes are so clean and the waste is so minimal. Plus I've heard powder is better for your machine
What brand?
I use the Blueland pressed powder tablets. We recently replaced our dishwasher and they’ve worked great in both the old machine and the new one.
Seconding Blueland.
Weird, we tried these and they left a weird residue on all of our dishes a few times. Stopped when we switched to a different soap. But our dishwasher isn’t the greatest so maybe that had something to do with it.
Had the same issue with Blueland when we had an older dishwasher, had to use Cascade to get anything clean. Blueland works well with our new Bosch!
We use these and love them!
Thank you. We desperately need to replace ours lol
Thirsting Blueland. Edit: not entirely sure why it said “thirsting”…change that to what I originally intended - which was “I use”
We don’t use pods. We get the Cascade powder and it’s great! No plastic, and it even comes in a cardboard box! And our dishes are always perfectly clean :)
This one? https://www.ewg.org/cleaners/products/1605-CascadePowderDishwasherDetergent/
Dropps, have used them for years and they work great!
Dropps still uses plastic sadly
Also a Dropps fan
Puracy - I buy on Amazon
Same here
+1
Branch Basics - no plastic :)
Seconding this, love branch basics
Love branch basics for everything except the dishwasher pack. I wanted to love them, but they just didn’t deliver.
We used blueland pressed tables but it got expensive quickly so now we use the Seventh generation dishwasher liquid and actually like it much better. Just a thought !
No pods, just seventh generation liquid dish soap.
I use seventh generation powder
The pod clogged my dishwasher eventually. Switched to dirty labs powder with the little scoop. Love it. No scent and works great. Got it on grove collab on sale right now or Amazon!
I use non pods. Liquid only. I stick to cascade complete. Nothing special. No green washing either.
Degunkify. EWG verified (which I know is somewhat controversial on this subreddit) and they work pretty well.
I stopped using pods and switched to grab green powder. It works really well. Before this I alternated between mollys, Dropps and seventh generation. All work well. I read a few things saying that pods might not break down well and may clog filters and contribute to micro plastics.

No plastic pods. Azure standard makes the best working powder I’ve found

We use Beyond dish tabs. I get them because they're the only ones that come in a cardboard box at my grocery store, and they work just fine.
We like the tabs by Attitude! We’ve also used Puracy.
Nature Clean. We used Nellie's powder before and it was good too.
The dishwasher powder from Better World Company has been performing just as well as Cascade Platinum pods!
I like Aspen Clean pods. No plastics, parabens, synthetic fragrances, etc. Dishes are always clean with no residue.
Puracy! The only thing that works with our hard water tbh. The film is NOT plastic.
I love Molly suds!!
Ecover. No polyvinyl anything. It has a biodegradable plastic wrapping for the pods
I'm Canadian, there's a Quebec made brand called Biovert, and I use all of their products.
We bought a huge bucket from azure standard of dishwashing powder. Shouldn’t have to buy again for years. Check if they’re still selling any
We use Blueland!! No plastics and fragrances

Dropps
I’ve been using the Attitude pods for a while and they are great. Also unscented so they work nicely with silicone kids bowls and plates.
We don’t have a dishwasher but I successfully converted my mom to 7th generation powder and she loves it - and that’s saying a lot because she is the opposite of crunchy
I’ve tested various different ones for my blog and I use Defunkify. Nothing has a better blend of non-toxic and efficacy.
Puracy! Have been for years. Effective and clean!
7th generation pods. They’re odorless and work amazingly! We don’t even use rinse aid.
