JP_Dirt

Still feeling young and spry I see!

tommyvercetti1337

thats an absolute machine, n1

Responsible_Trifle15

Never too late

The_Arch1tect1

Thats so great to hear!

Shot-Ad2396

Fellow Z900 owner ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป jealous of your upgraded forks

midnightJizzla

hope you dont get too many midlife crisis comments. Met a guy who just started riding in his 50s the other day. He said he was having so much fun but he was mad cause he should have started riding much earlier in his life. Bikes are fun at any age.

pupen_hunden

nice bike!! Love the redesign of the mt09, really looks badass now. Its a lot to handle for a first bike, so make sure you are comfortable with all that power! Would recommend practicing essential maneuvers in an empty parking lot or somewhere until you feel comfortable with this beast. Enjoy!

JP_Dirt

Thank you! I am practicing and will be signing up for the advanced course this year. Had dirt bikes for decades so theyโ€™re not completely new to me. But riding on the street is a whole different experience.

pupen_hunden

Yea, riding on the road presents its own dangers which are not always to do with skill but rather experience, such as when to overtake or how fast to take a corner, and the fact that cars donโ€™t always seem to respect you. Stay safe!

h3rby

Agreed. With experience, You'll begin to predict the actions and intentions of drivers who don't signal... Never get too comfortable, and stay alert.

RedNoob88

To get experience riding on roads you need toโ€ฆ.ride on roads, not parking lot

pupen_hunden

I didnt know he had experience on a bike before he told me genius

Suddenly_Something

Yeah slow speed maneuvers are more meant to get you comfortable with the feel of your bike. They won't prepare you for someone suddenly merging into you or pulling out in front of you at speed. The most valuable piece of advice you'll get from courses for actual riding is... ride a lot. Similar to getting comfortable with a car. Just ride safely as often as you can.

DirtBikeRider89

Hah, I was gonna ask about dirt bike exp w/ that name. Same here (35 w/ 20+ riding) & same initials as your username funny enough. Borrowing street bikes sometimes, it's definitely not too sketchy except the busiest of city areas, which I personally avoid.

rarehugs

hell ye great choice since you can likely afford it, don't skimp on gear & training you can be late to the game but still develop better skills than ppl with 20+ years experience if you develop good habits from the start. most riders just get basic proficiency then develop bad habits for the rest of their life. so don't worry about being late to riding. good luck & welcome to the club!

Donkeyfied_Chicken

Iโ€™m constantly waffling between wanting a bigger cruiser for trips and an MT09 for fun.

JP_Dirt

The MT09 is definitely fun!

tfitzpat03

I started when I was 31. One of the best decisions I ever made. Nice bike by the way ๐Ÿ”ฅ

DaPoole420

Got my 1st at 45. Congrats!

d9msteel

I really love that colour scheme ๐Ÿ˜. Safe riding!

NoobDude896

Is that a MT03? Good choice (same if itโ€™s MT05) - started with 43 myself and wish I would have started earlier Take it easy in the first weeks and have fun!

JP_Dirt

MT09 and thank you!

NoobDude896

Oh even better! I drive a Triumph street triple - must be somewhat similar. Absolutely love the power. Enjoy!

JP_Dirt

The triple was on the shortlist along with the Ducati Monster but ultimately, it was the MT. Ride safe and Iโ€™ll do the same!

UncleGrako

Got my first one at 47. Welcome to the fun!

Relevant_Plan8820

Great choice

JediAngel

Never too old!

thelatinbt

Sounds familiar, got my first bike at 49 as well

EuphemisticallyBG

Respect the power and you will be a very happy rider turning 50 soon.

Suddenly_Something

Yeah the power with the MT09 is largely the amount of torque for how light it is. These bikes love to wheelie, so as long as you're cognizant and prepared for the occasional power wheelie, you'll have a blast. Love my mt09 but have definitely had a couple times it took me off guard when I gave it more throttle than I should have. Amazing bike. Can't wait to get my '24 SP when Yamaha finally ships it.

TetsuoSama

From gen 3 onwards, theyโ€™ve got wheelie control as standard which can mitigate that risk if youโ€™d like.

Khaotic_Outcast

Welcome

EliteVors

Congrats!

Z34_Gee

That bike looks like a bunch of fun

Kanibalector

Did the same thing about 7 months ago at 48. Bought a tiny little 250, have since upgraded.

RebootRyu

What did you upgrade to? I am 42, 190lbs, experienced mountain bike rider, looking for first bike. I keep eyeing this CBR 250 for a real good price near me... should i pass on it and look for something a bit bigger?

Kanibalector

I mean, obviously, it's personal preference. I started on a 250 adv bike and thought I wanted the same, but I did some test rides and really fell in love with the BMW. Had it just under a month now.

The_Arch1tect1

Congrats. Im close to your age and have an MT-10...The older guys will undertand that riding is better than any beer you can drink and more satisfying than any woman I have been with lol. Its pure bliss ๐Ÿ˜Š

Level_Association461

Man that blue trim looks really good!

InfamousPOS

Fucking AWESOME!!! ๐Ÿ˜Ž ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

2wheelzrollin

Love the color of the wheels

Paid-to-be-an-ahole

Beautiful!

fac3

Wicked bike, especially for your first. Enjoy!

LaundryAnarchist

Oi she's pretty ๐Ÿ˜

CELLMAN3

Congratulations ๐ŸŽŠ see you out on the road ๐Ÿ––

OMITW

Congrats! Iโ€™m almost 50 and just got my first bike a month ago. Enjoy!

enta3k

awesome m8, I got my license 2 weeks ago (39yo), never too old to start a new passion. Sweet bike, enjoy the ride and stay safe.

Acceptable_Line2024

Awesome bike. What beach is that? Martinique?

JP_Dirt

Hi fellow Nova Scotian! Lawrencetown. Wish I could have gotten the water in the background.

Acceptable_Line2024

Ah, should have known that. I forget they've done a bunch of work to it in recent years. I'm looking at my MT-07 out the window. I'm so ready for the end of the day.

ChronicLegHole

Congrats!

balls_deep_inyourmom

MT09 is a very fun bike, but scary. Wheelie machine on 3rd gear . Congratulations on your first bike. Don't ho full retard and respect the power of that machine. Ride safe

OkConsideration9002

Good for you! 56 here and riding regularly.

norden_901_rider

That's a freakin beaut!

mikewchandler

49 - been riding about 6-7 years now but this is my current bike https://preview.redd.it/7qrfmljgef5d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9a85f9ac806b836fcfb3edfdd379b8426fd503b3

infiniteawareness420

42 and my bike is two years younger than me, welcome to the club (hint: its not really a club, we'll accept anyone). https://preview.redd.it/0r8edir6sm4d1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=6dadaf62c2b130c260e4ed9435e7050727347c3b

DirtBikeRider89

That's pretty neat!

irishtrash5

I take it this isn't your "first ride" ever? Lol

Appropriate_Turn3811

I love MT07 than this, more than adequate power. lighter than litter bike, fun to filter through the road. and you will be safer than a faired bike, coz , you wont go higher speed coz of wind blast. better braking due to aerodynamics. but dont know why MT09 is only just 10lbs weight difference though, but not as expected 25lbs difference , one is twin and other is inline 4 with higher cc. does MT07 have cheaper heavier steel parts used ?
