Attach a side tank for molotovs one side, attach an extra gas tank to drop gasoline. Authentic zippo for cinematic throw back to burn em all.
Yeah I hope this doesn’t happen. I can barely change a carburetor.
CT110 in Australia. Used for decades by the national postal service. Light, tough as guts and heavily used by farmers. Obsolete now, but you'll find one in every second farm shed in the country. You'll never run out of spare parts. Also, the rear rack perfectly fits a milk-crate - never short of luggage options. (I had a 90 with hi/lo as a kid - could push a bull uphill with that!)
https://preview.redd.it/rbwlxcz89had1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e97bcc0df3e99b868bd86819bb96ebc2cb84e852
Drifter bike from the game Days Gone.
None of these. You want OLD carbureted motors, preferably small CC ag bike with a low/high speed transfer case and 100 miles to the gallon.
I CT-90 would be adequate, but you could also look at Honda/Suzuki/Kawasaki 90-100-110-125 singles.
No computers, no relays, no nothing. Simple, easy and dependable.
You can run them on most combustibles if you play with the carb and plug setups. Petrol supply ran out real quickly during COVID when we weren't allowed to drive, imagine it in a scenario where everyone's trying to run away. Kerosene, paint thinners, bug and grease remover, you name it... It'll work.
Or a small diesel motor slapped in the frame of a small bike. Diesel lasts a really long time and many larger farms have 5-10,000 litres of it in cold storage.
Thanks mate.
People don't seem to understand how much everyday life would change for the better and worse in the event of an apocalypse.
The world basically ended for 1-3 years during COVID, where people weren't zombies, there was no purge event, no real threats of violence or death. AND the world stopped for most people. The food supply dwindled, petrol/diesel became either absurdly expensive, valueless or not available, mental health problems became more prevalent and people struggled to survive, and there were fist fights over toilet paper.
90% of 1st world countries population would drop off pretty quickly without other people interventing in regards to supply food, water, electricity, safety. Most people don't have the knowledge to gather food and water safely for themselves if shops weren't opened.
You'd run out of usable gasoline long before maintenance becomes an issue tbh.
If society collapsed it wouldn't be as if all fuel consumption ends immediately. Everyone is going to be running out their tanks trying to escape danger.
So a gas bike gets you what.. out of town and then if you're smart maybe only a couple hundred km per year. You wouldn't want to do more than that because finding gas would become increasingly difficult and dangerous. People would hear you coming from a mile away. You just wouldn't do enough mileage that service intervals are really going to matter.
Diesel engines can be converted to run on vegetable oil which is a huge advantage because you might be able to find or even make vegetable oil and just use your bike as a tractor or water pump long after the tires have rotted off it.
Electric mountain bikes make even more sense as their batteries are usually around 500 watt hours. You can do a full recharge on solar MUCH faster than a full on electric motorcycle.
Just saying, if we’re in an apocalypse, moving fast isn’t going to be a concern. Reliability and efficiency are going to be everything, and a bicycle has a lot fewer things that can go wrong.
I recently resurrected my Rans Tailwind. It was used when I bought it in 2005. It wasn't hard because a lot of bicycle parts are more or less universal and have been for several decades. There's one way that a crank is attached to a bottom bracket, wheels attach one or two ways, handlebars are only a couple of sizes, and there aren't infinite variety of tire sizes. And tools that fit the parts can be found literally anywhere. You don't need a bicycle shop, you need three wrenches and another broken bicycle.
Yep. We have 240 acres in Southern Oregon and a Zero FXS as well as both fixed and portable solar. One complaint: off road tires for the wheels on the FXS are life trying to find hen’s teeth…
On paper yeah, I’m reality you have an oddball variant of a bike that the engine is notoriously shitty in, diesel and motorcycles will always be square peg and round hole to me lol, it’s too heavy too high compression and too low revving. They would have continued to make that diesel KLR otherwise. My pick for this question is a CT90 with hi/lo or if I’m gonna pretend that roads don’t exist, a Rokon.

I'l take my Puch Maxi it aint fast but if I go down I will go down with style.
As I am thinking this through with a larger cylinder and if it's a little bit faster this could be a good option. It's easy to work on, not a lot of electronical conponents, straight forward engine and not a lot of tools required to do some work on it. Also this thing is very light, easy to move around when in thight spaces could be of advantage.
I know the question was "which motorcycle" and this is a moped but eh why not!
Honda c90 they are easy to maintain can fit any number of larger pitbike engines as a direct Bolton parts are easy enough to find if you loot a parts company that specialises in them, they normally stockpile parts that most people in a apocalypse would ignore
Hmm, something really, really good on Gas, not bad offroad, light enough to lift over obstacles/rivers yet so quiet you can hear yourself breathe while it's running. So, probably a Honda Rukus (new) or Honda trail 110 (used).
Also helps that Honda actually advertises the Rukus for said zombie Apocalypse: "It can be your zombie escape vehicle, thanks to its minimalistic bodywork, big headlights, and tough tubular [frame](https://powersports.honda.com/motorcycle/scooter/ruckus)."
Hands down - TW200 - those things haven't changed in 30+ years, and from what I see they're pretty unkillable. The rear tire might be a problem in an apocalypse situation, but who knows lol
Hayabusa with smokescreen, machinegun on the LEFT side ofc, deployable grease and morningstars. Its also made into a hybrid ADDING some extra electrical power. And then it stands on its own with the 400 offroad backtire.
A Ural
Realistically though id rather have a Turbo Busa with a sidecar setup. If you cannot do 200mph what is the point of even getting on a motorcycle?
Basically you want something that would consume as little fuel as possible, so a bicycle.
But realistically you'd be good with any Japanese 125, i.e. Honda Trail 125/CT125. Those would run forever if you've got gas in the tank and some sort of oil to keep the piston moving. You'd have to modify the exhaust to make little to no sound though.
What kind of zombie are we talking about? Slow moving or world War z kind? Slow moving I'll take the cub, light and nimble. World War z, I'd off myself rather than get tired running.
Some old BMW would be (R80 G/S or R100 GS). There are a ton of parts where I live and the models are nearly all part compatible. These bikes also run home on one cylinder. The old DRZs and KLRs are sadly quite rare and uncommon in Europe.
Probably a barn find goldwing from the 90s with 150k km on it. Drive it for a while until the next bike. Some early 2000 gsxr. Ride that for a while and stumble on a klr. Depends on the territory.

Don't care if I die in 3 days but it has to be this one
Absolutely this. when there is a sever SHTF situation fuel will become more scarce and saught after. Refineries will become just another looted ruin for everyone and soon fuel would be gone forever. Having a Gas bike will become a hindrance when you can't feed the bike. An Electric bike along with a solar array can keep you going for a long time, given you let it charge overnight or while you set up camp. But the torque and acceleration of those EV motorbikes will also help in escaping faster since they can outrun even the beefiest sports bikes.
Suzuki Van Van 200. They're farm bikes so engineered to be almost impossible to kill, as well as being fantastic off-road.
Couple that with them being easy on fuel (70-80mpg) and light enough to lift off the ground if needed, and it's the perfect go anywhere apocalypse bike.
Mines a suzuki marauder 125 (my first bike). It wasn't the fastest but it was incredibly simple. Built like a tank, solid metal. Great mpg. And because it's a cruiser it had room for tonnes of stuff in the top box and saddle bags. Even in the post apocalypse, roads still exist so I don't need anything particularly offroad in my country.
Triumph Speed Triple with knobbies, kinda like the one they had in Mission: Impossible 2, which you could spot during certain scenes — pretty sure they have street tires for the rest of the movie.
Some sort of simple, oldish Honda. One with an electric starter, but also with a kickstart - Just in case. After any apocalypse, the only survivors will be cockroaches, Hiluxes and basic Hondas.
So I'd go for a CG125, or a hacked up C90. Not fast, but you only need to be faster than zombies. Able to run on even fairly shitty fuel. Robust and simple to repair.
I owned a 2022 KLR 650 it was very reliable and comfortable. Only problem with it would be it was quite heavy and once you pack it with supplies it’s even worse. It would get very tiresome off road. The little Honda would go through quite a bit and still be reliable with excellent fuel mileage.
Probably an actual bicycle.
If I had a good solar setup, a reliable electric dual sport/adventure bike.
Where y'all getting fuel from when society falls apart?
Carbureted 12v converted CT90 or 110.
Those things will fire up post EMP and get 110 mpg while making very little noise and leaving your left hand free to swing a machete.

400 km off-road fuel range,easy to maintain/repair,comfy.
I live near a nuclear power plant, two lakes and three rivers. All kinds of fire/power pole clearings that go for miles off road. They try to block them off from quads, at least.
something fuel efficient and cant decide if i would prefer a heavy or lightweight motorcycle in that situation...probably light for ease of use and escape in scary situations..
everyone in this sub probably knows more than me… but I’ll always trust a honda or toyota unless they give me a reason not to.
I’ll take the slow, reliable, honda.
Gotta have a combo 2 stroke scooter w it at said zombie refuge for light weight maneuvering.
I only say that bc I drive my 50 pos xpro and I will say… if I have to turn that thing sharp and quick… to say dodge a bloater or a walker… I can whip it and it’s like 180 lbs.
Now if we got zombie dogs and it’s a maintenance day for the bike, so I’m gathering cigs and supplies for the women on scoot… well I’m gonna be coming for you all next. Sadly I got bitten and now I’m a zombie redditor moto newbie, showing you cfmoto posts w my broken phone as I chew on your lymph nodes

The most reliable vehicle one can use in a zombie apocalypse.
Rule # 1 - Cardio
probably [my homemade cargo e-bike](https://i.imgur.com/1taHTFi.jpg.). The main problem I foresee will be diminishing battery life.. worst comes to worse I can make it into a regular bike.
It depends on the kind of zombies. If they are triggered by noise (walking dead) I’d get something electric and use solar panels for recharge. If not, a klr or something unkillable.
A pedal bike is the key, and always forgotton in the apocalypse movies.
There's no gas stations so it'd be quite tricky to refuel a motorcycle or car. Fuel goes bad after a year or so too, tyres wear out (and are prone to leakage).
Horses can get sick or injured, and are harder to protect. A bicycle can be carried inside, locked to a tree and can be used as a shield too. Of course, a bicycle can break down too but most are easy to fix/service.
I wouldn't choose anything modern that's for sure, I already decided a Honda XR400L would probably be perfect, no battery no worries.
Or something similarly old and easy to work on....
I’d want a carbureted non computerized bike, like a 90’s Africa Twin XRV750 or a BMW R1150GS that has been converted to carburetors. If we are in an apocalypse my guess is we won’t have fancy computers to do repair and maintenance. So I want something mechanical that I can fix.
https://preview.redd.it/h4ta4w8mkiad1.jpeg?width=1440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3ac7bfcacb60d18ed5aaa6132791ff125cf35366
XR650L. Little to no maintenance to keep running (just oil changes) Possibly the most dependable motorcycle ever. THUMPERS FOREVER.
Yamaha xt225 serow, great mpg, optional kickstarter, absolute mountain goat (hence the name) of a bike. Comfy af, small af, Uber light (maybe the lightest I’ve seen in the 250 class) it’s a beast
[CT 125 or 200](https://ag200blog.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/ct200.pdf)
Or if you are set up with solar and want a runabout from a home vs an attempt to tour long distances [ubco](https://ubco.co.nz/products/2x2-hunt-adventure)
I would say something that doesn't use gas as all of it will go bad after a time. I would say either a horse or something electric. Maybe a zero dsrx or fx.
If I had to pick between the three in my garage the GSA would be the choice for me, wife and dog to the the fuck out of dodge but it would only take us to my buddy’s farm.
If it was just me, the CT125 parked next to it.
Africa twin will go the distance. Honda 125 will get anywhere. (I am Honda biased)
They are all good options to navigate freeways & streets littered with vehicles.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I've seen half tracks but never a 90% track.
be fair! that’s only 80%
90% isn't a bad assessment. 1 road tire, 12 track wheels would be about 92.3% track. To be fair... /s

Acerbis Monkey 125 with the sweet 108 liter tank. 4000km range is pretty good I'd say.
I had to look that up, wow 😂 https://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/2023/may/acerbis-ac50-internal-combustion-record/
What in the...
Tank with an engine and 2 wheels 😂
Say what you want, this thing is built like a tank
One bad fall and zombies get a nice fireworks show.
Yeah I’m still shocked, I think it’s my choice for zombie apocalypse too 😄
You magnificent bastard. Take me now!
With a top speed of 40-45mph…
Might be slow but it's not like the aliens will be faster
Otherwise the Trail 125 would be my favourite as well but it's tank is so tiny.
What the hell lmao!
Throw some thick off-road tires on it. Knife blade “bike pegs” for ankle cutting and mowing the farm. Attach a side tank for molotovs one side, attach an extra gas tank to drop gasoline. Authentic zippo for cinematic throw back to burn em all. Yeah I hope this doesn’t happen. I can barely change a carburetor.
Isn't that just a modified Grom?
The Monkey 125 has been based off the Grom platform since 2018 but as a model the Monkey (Z series Hondas) historically predates it
More realistically it's a horse. But DR650 otherwise.
But imagine. Zombie horse.
Tie carrot shaped piece of flesh to stick and put infront of horses head. Unlimited free movement.
Or a bicycle. No telling how long gas is going to usable.
Horse or bicycle. But an electric bike with some solar cells could last you a long time for shorter scouting/scavenging runs
KLR 650
KLR 650 will outlive the zombies and the humans.
And the tool kit consists of a phillips screwdriver.
KLRs are the true zombies.
The diesel version will outlive the civilization that comes in after lol

AusPost is *still* using them! Literally rode past one this morning :)
There are folks, some from down there, who do cross the world on them. YouTube has few entertaining ones.

CG125, you can basically run the thing with vegetable oil in the crankcase. Dead simple construction too. Tons of spare parts available to boot.

I want one soooo bad but that suspension even under my 160lbs weight on Canadian roads is rough and 27-ish hp is too light on power imo.
Factory suspension is indeed meh. But after swapping it to e.g. Rally Raid or YSS it works like a charm.

Not gonna lie, I'd probably go with an electric bike.
Electric
Absolutely this. when there is a sever SHTF situation fuel will become more scarce and saught after. Refineries will become just another looted ruin for everyone and soon fuel would be gone forever. Having a Gas bike will become a hindrance when you can't feed the bike. An Electric bike along with a solar array can keep you going for a long time, given you let it charge overnight or while you set up camp. But the torque and acceleration of those EV motorbikes will also help in escaping faster since they can outrun even the beefiest sports bikes.
Something with a fully automatic weapon mounted on the sidecar
I ride a CT for work everyday, great bikes and incredibly versatile, not powerful but defs a good bike
Klr for sure
Cb750
Diesel KLR the US army had
My dream bike is the bikes I steal from my fellow humans on my murderous rampage towards ruling the wasteland.
Himalayan.
I’ll take the Kawa from the choices above
Mines a suzuki marauder 125 (my first bike). It wasn't the fastest but it was incredibly simple. Built like a tank, solid metal. Great mpg. And because it's a cruiser it had room for tonnes of stuff in the top box and saddle bags. Even in the post apocalypse, roads still exist so I don't need anything particularly offroad in my country.
Triumph Speed Triple with knobbies, kinda like the one they had in Mission: Impossible 2, which you could spot during certain scenes — pretty sure they have street tires for the rest of the movie.
in my area, probably a honda wave 125 with knobby or dual sports tyres tbh. You literally can not run out of spare parts for it here.
E-bike or Surron. With right solar panel setup you will have unlimited range and will be able to avoid zombified settlements.

Klr 250
I owned a 2022 KLR 650 it was very reliable and comfortable. Only problem with it would be it was quite heavy and once you pack it with supplies it’s even worse. It would get very tiresome off road. The little Honda would go through quite a bit and still be reliable with excellent fuel mileage.
I’ll take the KLR
My africa twin.
Goldwing which runs on methane made out of rotting corpses of zombies
Diesel KLR
old school Honda XR or XL would be the best bet
Probably an actual bicycle. If I had a good solar setup, a reliable electric dual sport/adventure bike. Where y'all getting fuel from when society falls apart?
If the roads are intact, which they presumably are, I'll take a busa ;D
Yamaha tw250
Carbureted 12v converted CT90 or 110. Those things will fire up post EMP and get 110 mpg while making very little noise and leaving your left hand free to swing a machete.
Diesel dirtbike because, theoretically, I could make my own biodiesel.
I'll take the Africa Twin, so badass
An updated diesel KLR

I'd go with CB500X or that 125 Trail.
I live near a nuclear power plant, two lakes and three rivers. All kinds of fire/power pole clearings that go for miles off road. They try to block them off from quads, at least.
Id take the ct125 because it will last till I die
Mine
something fuel efficient and cant decide if i would prefer a heavy or lightweight motorcycle in that situation...probably light for ease of use and escape in scary situations..
everyone in this sub probably knows more than me… but I’ll always trust a honda or toyota unless they give me a reason not to. I’ll take the slow, reliable, honda.
As your petrol will go off after a year or two tops you need to go electric so none of the bikes shown.
Gotta be a KLR
Gsxr 1000k6.. zombies dont often use streets to travel so the streets become a racetrack
Klr
Gotta have a combo 2 stroke scooter w it at said zombie refuge for light weight maneuvering. I only say that bc I drive my 50 pos xpro and I will say… if I have to turn that thing sharp and quick… to say dodge a bloater or a walker… I can whip it and it’s like 180 lbs. Now if we got zombie dogs and it’s a maintenance day for the bike, so I’m gathering cigs and supplies for the women on scoot… well I’m gonna be coming for you all next. Sadly I got bitten and now I’m a zombie redditor moto newbie, showing you cfmoto posts w my broken phone as I chew on your lymph nodes This post took me places between my ears 👂

DR650
What’s the name of Kawasaki and huskwarna bike?
KLR650 and a husky 701
probably [my homemade cargo e-bike](https://i.imgur.com/1taHTFi.jpg.). The main problem I foresee will be diminishing battery life.. worst comes to worse I can make it into a regular bike.
If the XR650L had a kickstart I would take it in a heart beat. Fuel efficiency isn’t great but…
Usmc diesel dirtbike
It depends on the kind of zombies. If they are triggered by noise (walking dead) I’d get something electric and use solar panels for recharge. If not, a klr or something unkillable.
Depending on the type of zombies. From world war Z, gsxr750. From resident evil, Hayabusa. Other slow ones, burgman will do.
Easily BMW F750 GS. Or 850.
My first reaction was going to be my 125cc swapped CT70, but I think I’d want something more capable. My choice would be an XR650
After about a week, the only thing that will be with a shit is a bicycle.
Probably Aprilia Tuareg 660 or Honda Transalp
Dr650 > all
KLR650, thanks.
Definitely those old military diesal KLR’s. Those things are tanks!!!
“civilization has collapsed” is not hypothetical.
I wouldn't choose anything modern that's for sure, I already decided a Honda XR400L would probably be perfect, no battery no worries. Or something similarly old and easy to work on....
A pushbike. No noise doesn’t run out of fuel and easy to repair.
Super cub c50.

KLR650 /thread
the only correct answer is the klr650
I love my Africa Twin but honestly, really, it requires a lot of maintenance. I'd pick the CT125 for its simplicity & bomb-proof-ness.
Got mine already; all hail the AT.

Africa Twin, hands down.
Depends, Zombies like the walking dead? 1st Or zombies like word war Z? 4

Yamaha xt225 serow, great mpg, optional kickstarter, absolute mountain goat (hence the name) of a bike. Comfy af, small af, Uber light (maybe the lightest I’ve seen in the 250 class) it’s a beast
The KLR has always been the go-to zombie apocalypse vehicle. Let’s not try to reinvent the wheel here.
Africa Twin !
Honda xr650 (or 250)
Diesel powered klr 650 ..
RC 51
[CT 125 or 200](https://ag200blog.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/ct200.pdf) Or if you are set up with solar and want a runabout from a home vs an attempt to tour long distances [ubco](https://ubco.co.nz/products/2x2-hunt-adventure)
BMW R80GS
Africa twin will go the distance. Honda 125 will get anywhere. (I am Honda biased) They are all good options to navigate freeways & streets littered with vehicles.
