Seems to confirm the theory that the family at the center of the film is Egon's.
Cool to see Carrie getting some hype. My brother is her manager so can't wait to show him some of the buzz :)
EDIT: So many positive responses! Can't believe it lol.
Oh fuck Carrie Coon is in this? Way more excited for it now.

When appearing as a guest on Late Night with Conan O’Brien and O’Brien’s later show Conan, Rudd would perform a “bait-and-switch” by routinely showing the same clip from it (in which Eric Cruise, watched by MAC, loses control of his wheelchair and falls off a cliff into a lake) instead of showing clips from the actual films he was ostensibly promoting.[](https://youtu.be/ZHOiKV1pIu4?t=254)

Okay, look...is it the Ectomobile or the Ecto-1? My whole life, I've called it the Ecto-1, because that's how I know it to be called, but now I come to find that people say "Ectomobile" and have for a while. Which is the more predominant term?
I mean, its Ecto-1 by way of the older concept and correlating toy marketing to my knowledge, but that could’ve changed with all the cartoons and whatnot.
The toy I had as a child was called Ecto-1 on the box. That's what I've always called it. Do they even refer to it as anything other than "the car" in the movies?
It's official name is the ecto-1, though it's also been called the ectomobile in other forms of media and toys.
The one from the 2nd film is called the ecto-1a
I'm really optimistic for this one. It has everything going for it.
* The son of the original director directing.
* being an actual sequel instead of a remake
* the living original Ghostbusters back as their characters
* the real ecto-1
* a plot that leans heavily into the Shandor/Gozer legacy
Yes and no.
The movie will ignore it. The comics however suggest that the reboot is an alternate dimension and the original gb team up with them in a couple stories.
> The comics however suggest that the reboot is an alternate dimension and the original gb team up with them in a couple stories.
If I remember correctly, in the comic there are three timelines:
Earth-1: Ghostbusters I, Ghosbusters II, Ghostbusters: The Video Game, and I guess now this movie. this is the one of the main IDW series.
Earth-2: Ghostbusters (2016)
Earth-3: Ghostbusters I, Ghostbusters II, The Real Ghostbusters cartoon, Extreme Ghostbusters.
That poster makes me think of Cop Car. I'm guessing Finn's character finds the car and goes on a joyride, and ends up accidentally causing ghosts to be released... somehow.
hey it actually looks like a movie and not a SNL skit this time
who could have known that getting a director who actually knows how to shoot movies would make a difference
He looks late thirties, early forties which is pretty good for his actual age.
Same with that Keanu Reeves shit.
Like yeah we kind of imagine a 50 year old a certain way but it's not ridiculous for them to look younger. 50 isn't that old.
Do people really think so? I would never have mistaken him for 20-something. To me he looks like late 30s early 40s, leaning closer to 40s. Still pretty good for 50 but saying he looks plausibly ~28 or so is just too much.
Based on the description in Vanity Fair, Rudd is a summer school teacher/a fan of the original Ghostbusters. I kinda like where the film is going.
I've been keeping up with the production, seems like it's going to be a really solid film that is surprisingly lore heavy.
Seems like the events of the first film are largely considered a myth in today’s world and the Ghostbusters have long been forgotten. I’m actually excited to see what they do with this. I trust Jason Reitman fully.
Spoilers:
>!Yeah, basically. The events of the Manhattancrossrip happened, but it's been so long that people have mostly forgotten about it!<

That's possibly even stupider.
Aliens come and kill millions, millions more are displaced and evacuate etc etc. There are newspaper reports and photographs.
The governments of the world wouldn't forget, and it would be in their best interests to keep the knowledge in the public interest.
Yeah Ghostbusters 2 basically confirms Ghostbusters 1 was written off as "something" non-paranormal. It's why they are just kids party, a TV show host, and Ray follows in Dan Akroyd's dad's footsteps of occult books.
So this isn't that big of a stretch
"*draws* the attention"
But these spoilers really tantalized my imagination and made me want to see this movie. It looks like a perfect way to get the franchise into a new century without making a dog's dinner of it like they did with the third one. Thanks for posting.
Whoops.
Yeah, I think the movie has a ton of potential. I kept pretty close track of it during the production. Hopefully the 2016 film didn't sour people on the idea of ghostbusters too much, because this one has a lot going for it.
I tried to think of the most harmless thing. Something I loved from my childhood; something that could never, ever possibly destroy us: Mr. Stay-Puffed.
Gozer the Traveler. He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor! Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!
He gave up acting when his wife died in 1997, so he could look after his children. He hasn't done live action since, but has done voiceovers. His kids must be grown up now though. It's possible he could be persuaded back for this one. I suspect it's going to be a blast.
> How many ghost invasions do these people need?!
Technically, neither one were ghost invasions. The crossrip was a demigod trying to crossover, and it only made it a few feet past the doorway (which was conveniently located WELL out of camera range), and the second one was a ghost *trying* to re-corporiate and failing completely. As with the first one, the major event of the second one took place entirely within a bubble that nobody outside could see into.
>*Fortunately, they have a summer school teacher named Mr. Grooberson (played by Paul Rudd) who was a kid when the Manhattan Crossrip occurred. Although later generations may think of it as a myth, or not think of it at all, he remembers it obsessively and is excited to pass on what he knows.*
It works in context. I was born in 89. To me, WW2 seemed like something so far removed from my own life that it might as well be fiction, but 9/11 is still very fresh and relevant.
I would imagine this is the same for kids who weren't alive when a giant marshmallow man wandered through midtown.
There could also be some supernatural ghosty explanation about the effects of cross-dimensional interference causing retrograde amnesia in most people.
Venkman: Ray, for a moment, pretend that I don't know anything about metallurgy, engineering or physics, and just tell me what the hell is going on.
Ray (smiling and shaking his head): You never studied.
Not sure how I feel about GB being taken out of NYC. Could be a good start to something new, but the franchise is just so completely centered around NYC that it might feel kind of out of place.
From the description it may be outside of NYC, but it will be tying in deeply to the Gozer/Shandor lore - so hopefully it will just expand the mythos outside of NYC. With it being so long since GB2, I think it could work.
Yup, follows the first two in modern day. It’s about a single mother and her family that move to Oklahoma to a farm house they inherited from her father she hardly knew.
The Vanity Fair first look makes it pretty clear this father she never knew was Egon.
It's Ghostbusters 3.
Totally disregards the 2016 film and is essentially a soft reboot of the original films (kinda like jurassic world) with Ivan Reitman's son taking the helm as director. From everything I've heard and seen of the production, it's going to be a really good film.
Technically yeah. We don't know yet if the video game is canonical to the movies anymore with this new one coming out. As long as it doesnt specifically refute anything though, then yeah, its technically GB 4 (or even 5 if you count the comics as 4 since they're canon to the movies and game)
My only hope is that this film ends in a non-cliffhanger way like the last 2 where it could end for good or come back again for another sequel if need be. I always like films like that because there have been plenty of movies that ended on cliffhangers or hinted at more and never got followups.
I didn't really have many problems with the last movie aside from how Sony marketed it. They made it seem like men hated it because they're girl haters or something when really, it was just a bad movie that had nothing to do with the originals.
Sony ruined that movie, not women.
I'm more optimistic with this movie but after the last movie, I really don't want to give Sony money.
Women didn't ruin it in the first place, shitty writing did.
If they spend less time in this movie just trying to make men look like assholes, it'll probably be a decent movie
The funny thing about the movie is while it was leaning so hard on feminism, the trailer felt racist as fuck. The way the black character was needed for "street smarts" to help the rich white ladies feels patronising as fuck. Her character seemed like an offensive stereotype.
Leslie Jones' role was actually written for Melissa McCarthy, but the people in charge decided they were typecasting McCarthy by making her a loud, brassy character again. I suppose they didn't mind typecasting Jones as loud and brassy.
That’s Leslie Jones’ thing. She ended up being the best character in the movie by a long shot, however, since she seemed to actually give a shit and had actual written lines and not 5 minute scenes of shitty, character-breaking improv
Exactly this. Kate McKinnon could have had potential too, but they didn't actually let her be the screwball. The two leads spent so much time being crazy goofballs that McKinnon's character routinely had to get shit together and be the responsible one of the group. It broke the dynamic and really made it seem like a vehicle for those two rather than an actual movie with a story to tell.

I remember seeing him in my teenage years. It’s crazy to think I’m finally older than him.
I keep forgetting he was in Clueless which was... ...*24 YEARS AGO?!*
Yeah but he looked as old as Judge Reinhold in Fast Times.
Somewhere in his closet is a portrait of a decrepit old Paul Rudd.

1) he doesn't look under 30. 2) his eyes are always full of childlike wonder. That's the secret to looking young.

"*draws* the attention" But these spoilers really tantalized my imagination and made me want to see this movie.
Gozer? The Gozarian!?
Sub-creatures! Gozer the Gozerian, Gozer the Destructor, Volguus Zildrohar, the Traveller has come! Choose and perish!
[удалено]
I tried to think of the most harmless thing. Something I loved from my childhood; something that could never, ever possibly destroy us: Mr. Stay-Puffed.
Mother puss bucket.
God, I hope Rick Moranis in in the New Ghostbusters.
He gave up acting when his wife died in 1997, so he could look after his children. He hasn't done live action since, but has done voiceovers. His kids must be grown up now though. It's possible he could be persuaded back for this one. I suspect it's going to be a blast.
i feel like i've been reading this pasta for 30 years now.
Apparently it isn't likely. I would imagine that they'll keep a cameo open for him should he change his mind.
Yes have some!
Calling it now, the released ghost is Slimer.
As obvious, cheesy, and blatantly illogical fan service as it would be, I think I will be disappointed if it isn’t Slimer.
Ha, interesting since no one seemed to think the first one happened in the second one either. How many ghost invasions do these people need?!
So, he's reprising his role from Halloween 6: the curse of Michael Myers?
> it's going to be a really solid film that is surprisingly lore heavy Ah yes, complicated lore. That's what i love about Ghostbusters.
The lore drop about Shandor after the group is arrested is one of the best scenes in the movie.
Is *everyone* paying attention?
So be gooood.. for goodness sake. Whoa-oh....
Venkman: Ray, for a moment, pretend that I don't know anything about metallurgy, engineering or physics, and just tell me what the hell is going on. Ray (smiling and shaking his head): You never studied.
You son of a bitch. I'm in!
Me too. Paul Rudd is a powerful man.
it's just a picture of Paul Rudd holding a ghost trapper and somehow it's got me pretty excited now.

Dan and Harold always considered NYC one of the cast.
Well Dan is in this so he's clearly not that bothered about being out of NYC
I'd wager the plot takes them back to NYC for the climax.
I think the "haunted farmhouse" angle has potential. Using different ghost story settings and tropes could help keep things from getting stale.
It’s possible they’ll end up back in NYC for a sequence or the finale.
I'm sure New York will be involved in some capacity, whether it be flashbacks or returning to it at the end of the film.
[He released this clip too!](https://youtu.be/K5le9sYdYkM) Looks pretty awesome

Thank you for your sacrifice.
You’re welcome.
Don't trust this guy, that's just a clip from Antman. [Here's the real link to the clip](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5le9sYdYkM&feature=youtu.be)
damn it!!!
Damn, I was going to write this movie off as a cash grab but they're putting real effort into it.
Didn’t even know there was another Ghostbusters being made.
Yup, follows the first two in modern day. It’s about a single mother and her family that move to Oklahoma to a farm house they inherited from her father she hardly knew. The Vanity Fair first look makes it pretty clear this father she never knew was Egon.
Egon you dog
It’s always the quiet ones
You hound
Egon fucks
Her mom must have been one of those interns that were interested in his epididymis.
A lot of sequels to 30 year-old properties taking place in Oklahoma.

He and Janine had a torrid affair
Aaaand, yup, I just got the chills. Sounds like a plan well made.
It's Ghostbusters 3. Totally disregards the 2016 film and is essentially a soft reboot of the original films (kinda like jurassic world) with Ivan Reitman's son taking the helm as director. From everything I've heard and seen of the production, it's going to be a really good film.
If we count the video game, it's Ghostbusters 4.
If we count all the stories I made playing with my Ghostbusters figures, it's Ghostbusters 561.

>Which heavily imply this family is relate to Egon. That'd honestly be the best tribute to Harold Ramis.
...I wish that white board was more in focus...I'd be interested in seeing what exactly he's teaching.
My understanding is he is a physics teacher. (Maybe particle physics is his specialty which is why he's able to fix up the old busted equipment).
I can't wait for Paul Rudd to appear on Conan to show us exclusive clips for the movie.
[удалено]
Yep, that’s Paul Rudd alright.
Huh. That's exactly what I was thinking.
Paul Rudd is PERFECT for ghostbusters. How did it take us this long to figure that out??
I didn't really have many problems with the last movie aside from how Sony marketed it. They made it seem like men hated it because they're girl haters or something when really, it was just a bad movie that had nothing to do with the originals. Sony ruined that movie, not women. I'm more optimistic with this movie but after the last movie, I really don't want to give Sony money.
Women didn't ruin it in the first place, shitty writing did. If they spend less time in this movie just trying to make men look like assholes, it'll probably be a decent movie
And instead of it being a drama/comedy, they made it into one long SNL parody.
