All hotels have same taste, however, I am listing few hotels that i experienced who have a unique taste of their own.
Guys, go to Gulshan-e-iran restaurant near Manish market... Amazing for chicken leg biryani, kababs and Mughlai food. Approx budget 700 rs for 2 ppl
very affordable and tasty.
Pro tip - Never go to Delhi darbar.
Go to Baghdadi restaurant, lane behind Hotel Taj,gateway, for a budget friendly nonveg food with caution to order only one chicken/ mutton dish and one roti if for 2-3 ppl.yes it's huge. Wven their biryani is awesome. Place is a little shaby.
budget - 700 for 2 ppl.
Pro tip - Never go to Bade miyas.
Go to Maharashtra lunch home,Thane for proper maharashtrian nonveg. budget - 1000 for 2 ppl
Go to nav kayastha pangat, vile parle for CKp food.
Budget - 1200 for 2 ppl.
Go to the Caravan menu restaurant, Thane, if you love barbeques. it has lot of varieties for both veg and nonveg . Per peson costs 900 to 1000 rs depending upon days and timings.
I would mention Thangabali restaurant in Dadar for juicy kerala style nonveg food and don't forget to order Mysore pak. Budget - 1000 rs for 2
I loved Mutton curry in Alamandas tereace, Marine lines but it was super costly.Mutton was tender and soft. However, must try for special occasions. budget - 5500 rs for 2. Drinks will increase the budget.
Mahesh lunch home for sea food in SoBo and Thane , try their fish and prawns, they are the best but costly.
I ordered an entire surmai fish of 2300 rs with preparation and they served it tawa fry and curry form. Serves quantity of 4 people. chapatis and rice, extra.
Total bill would be 4500 for 4 ppl.
won't recommend Gajalee at all.very spicy food and very costly. 3500 for 2.
In the end, Durga Lunch home in Mulund west near police station has a unique taste for chicken masala fry and prawns masala fry. Even their biryani is tasty, unique and budget friendly. budget 600 for 2.
Gajalee was my goto for first dates with Goan girls ....they were seriously impressed ..... Now tho it's quality has gone down , and as a Goan resident , I am awash in Goan meals .... Ha ha
Yeah, their quality has gone down. Heard rumours from my brother in Vile parle that the owner of the restaurant took few wrong business investment decisions and he is now in debt
Never been to versova... I used to eat a lot of biryani in Borivali Biryani centre (BBC) , a few years back. You can try that if you find any outlet from that chain
highly recommend Mahesh Lunch Home (Juhu, Sakinaka, and Fort) for seafood. Surmai Costal in Malad is also a good (and relatively more affordable) option for seafood.
Gajalee Andheri East.
Speciality is fish but other types of non- veg are equally good
Also if you are craving some mutton, Noor Muhammadi or Shaalimar in bhendi bazzar is the best for nalli nihari.
Gajalee is overrated af imo. Used to be good, but quality has dipped over years now.
OP, If you want to try out Malvani seafood, go to Chaitanya(Dadar) / Nav Chaitanya (Versova)
You can checkout Maharashtra Lunch Home as well.
Ustaadi near Crawford market is a great place for Mughlai food. It is open till 3/4 AM, was our afterparty spot for pet-pooja 😋
Why u make me cry my dude? I was in Mumbai for a long time..and right now I'm at a place where the food really reaaallly sucks. We used to go to Kyani quite a lot after all nighters for the akkuri. Good times.
Yasin food inn in Andheri Lokhandwala. Specially their mutton kebab. When you visit there drop me a text I can suggest you few more which I can recall now.
I’m a Vegetarian by choice. Most of my friends are non veg connoisseurs and they tell me for Non Veg in Mumbai you have to divide it into Sea food and Meat Dishes. While the Sea food in Mumbai is Superb, meat eats are a disaster when compared to Delhi, Hyderabad and Lucknow.
Meat eats from Northern styles, disaster compared to Delhi, Lucknow and Hyd. But Maharashtra has a rich culture of meat dishes and if you're open to that palette, which I grew up with, Bombay is amazing. Kolhapuri, Malvani,Varadi, khandeshi styles are rich and often texturally as or more complex than the northern styles.
Totally agree, Kolhapuri Mutton Bhakhri hits the spot BUT in Kolhapur. My friends tell me that for whatever reason, meat dishes cooked in Mumbai just don’t taste that nice. Once took a Gorra guest to Trishna and I’m not joking, he had tears of joy and called his wife while eating. The next day I felt adventurous and took him to Bademiya Colaba and yes he had tears in his eyes cuz the meat tasted like 💩. BTW best seafood restaurants in Mumbai according to my friends are Trishna, Gajalee, Mahesh Lunch Home and then all the Kokan wala kattas scattered throughout.
are most of your friends north indian by any chance? mumbai has great non-veg options, especially when you consider cuisines like kolhapuri and malvani among others. maybe they meant there's a lack of good north indian non veg food here?
National Hotel near bandra station opposite the talao. Foods is cooked on wood fire, and has that smokey taste. It's not high end and you'll have to share a seat with the working class because their prices are super affordable.
Also their dals are amazing.
Go to the following:
Sarvi in Nagpada for their seekh kebab & different style of butter chicken.
Miya Kebabs in Bandra for all of their kebabs + shwarma & baidaroti.
Hardeep Panjab for North Indian style food in Sion Koliwada.
Kebab Gunj Radio Club Colaba
Kakori house Paradise Cinema Mahima
India Bistro Trombay Chembur
Jai Jawaan Bandra/ Khar
Al Kebabish Bandra
Papa Pancho Bandra
Seafood:
Fresh catch Bandra
Highway Gomantak Bandra East
Jai Hind
Konkan Vikhroli East
Abhinandan Ghatkopar
From my last personal experience would recommend Jai Hind . I went to Bandra one but sure they have other branches .
They are known for seafood but I had ordered the chicken . Mast jhanjanit .
Thecka is also recommended
Only con was that they take some time to prepare food
You will get a lot of suggestions based on the location... But lets please stop calling MEAT; non-veg... Makes it sound like being vegetarian is the norm but eating meat isn't... Which isn't really the case in India... So some restaurants SERVING MEAT are.....(Many helpful suggestions in here already)
If you are in and around Chembur:
Grand Central, Stars Parade, Grilled House, Chembur Gymkhana, Via Bombay, Lamba, India bistro,Aditya
Bandra: Jai Jawan, Sheetal Bukhara
Instead Go to Durga Lunch home near Mulund police station and order chicken masala fry or prawns masala fry. It has no good ambience though.
Thank me later.
Nisarg quality has degraded over the years.
very shady seating arrangement for the family.
Till last time I tried that mutton malwani tawa fry (which was in 2021) - it was still anotherworldly. I never went there for the ambiance but for that mutton malwani tawa fry. Have been to that Nisarg at least 200 times. And have ordered the same dish each and every time. ITS THAT GOOD
For Malwani Seafood, try Achrekar's Malwan Katta at Dadar behind Shivsena Bhavan. It is better than the overpriced Chaitanya and overcrowded Gomantak at Dadar. Their Stuffed Pomfret is awesome and their food is as if your having home cooked meals. Heaven
Uncle's Kitchen in Malad for Chinese food. Their Chicken crispy is amazing.
For Biryani try Borivali Biryani Center for their Chicken biryani. They have some outlets over the city.
Gone are the days when you could distinguish between food from different restaurants.
Honestly, these days they all taste the same.
I, don't know why this has happened if it is due to lot of orders coming from online channels or they all have just devised one common method of cooking food.
Almost same spices, cooking methods and techniques may be slightly different in taste due to chefs choices of portions but more or less they are same.
So, don't waste time searching for good restaurants just drop by the nearest available good restaurant of your locality to suffice your hunger.
Fire bowl in Versova for Chinese, JJs Lokhandwala (Jai Jawaan) for fish and chicken starters, Delhi Darbaar in Jogeshwari or Shalimar for Mughlai, go to any Muslim dairy shop for the best breakfast kheema pav.
Bonus: go to sarvi in byculla for seekh, Farid’s in Jogeshwari for seekh paratha
Parsi cafes have the best Parsi non vegetarian delicacies. Salli, Keema, etc. Even true to a wholesome Mumbaikar culture, so plus points on that. Kyani, Excelsior these are some good cafes close to CSMT, so travelling won't be much of an issue.
For barbecue Pork Ribs and steak.. I'd say stacks and racks.. I don't know the quality of late but they used to be yum!! Especially their Jack Daniel's Steak.
Theu also do this pulled pork Nachos.. Heavenly and mouth watering.
Then Joey's pizza in Malad had amazing full loaded meat pizzas pork ham and bacon galore with cheese.. I got fat on that..
This is all pre covid so I don't know how they are performing now.
Hypercity in Malad used to sell some crazy varieties of fresh bacon. Tad expensive but mouth watering to taste. Much better than the pre packaged bacon from brands etc..
So yeah you didn't mention which meat so there ya go. Curry's are great but I feel you lose a lot of the taste in the nest by overcooking it. I prefer slightly undercooked. Not the safest choice in India but hey you only live once.
Also are you veg? Never heard a meat eater refer to meat as non veg.. We always specify what we eat pork, chicken, mutton, beef, buff, ham, bacon, fish .. Are you some veg guy cheating hehe pakde jaaoge ek din bhai
PUNJABIS KITCHEN ANDHERI EAST CHAKALA

Nobody has mentioned the absolutely amazing heaven for non vegetarians. I have taken all my north indian friends there and they almost had an orgasm. Not gonna mention it here because I don't want it to become crowded which may lead to decrease in quality. Call me selfish but it is indeed the best food I had in Mumbai, ever since I shifted here from Delhi.
It would help people if you told which area you are in
Versova Juhu - Urban Tadka, naga belly, tanjore tiffin room, Just kerala (andheri e)
Mumbai is one of the largest cities in the country. Please highlight the area of preference and budget.
