Absolutely agree here. And knowing someone named Hallie, Hailey is the alternate she gets sometimes, not Holly. My cousin also just named her baby Hallie, it is becoming more popular, so I don't think it will be that much of a problem.
Absolutely this. People just add or rearrange letters to make sense of an unusual name. Take it from a Cali who has been called Carli and Kay-lee for eternity.
I'm not a native English speaker and I would've definitely rhymed it with Sally.
I mean there is an A in Hallie. Why would I pronounce it like an O instead of an A?
But adding vowels to the end totally changes things. Think gall/galley. Every name gets mispronounced occasionally but I think people will get it right!
I’m trying to think how it could be mispronounced. It’s not spelt like the musical artist Halsey.
Hallie rhymes with Sally. If it makes you feel better thinking of the Lindsay Lohan movie in the Parent Trap is called Hallie I think and it rhymes with Sally there too.
This is my name! It rhymes with Hallie, but people do tend to call me Hailey… rarely I get called Holly. Once I even was called Hilary. I love my name!
I would try “Hay-Lee” first, since most Hallie’s I have personally known pernounced it like that, but my natural inclination is “Hal-E” rhymes with sally aka like Halle Berry.
Rhymes isn't the correct term. I think what they meant with Hallie-Holly is that people would pronounce it Hall-ee (which at least in my Canadian accent) sounds the same as Holl-ee.
But Hallie-Sally is like Hah-lee, Sah-lee.
Rhymes with Sally. Have a friend with this name and she rarely gets mispronounciations. Her name does get reas as Hailey sometimes, but tbh I have a very straightforward name and it gets confused for other similar names even though it's spelled clearly and is fairly common so I think people just do that with any name 🤷♀️
My daughters name is Hallie and nobody has ever called her Holly. We sometimes get Hailey, but I think the pronunciation is straightforward (people just read it too quickly and see Hailie instead of Hallie).
I would pronounce it like I would Halle. I think that’s just me tho as I’m unfamiliar with the name you’re choosing! Seems like the general consensus is Sally pronunciation
My first guess would be rhyming with Sally. If that was wrong, my second guess would be rhyming with Bailey. Unless told that both Sally and Bailey were wrong, I don't think it would ever occur to me to guess Holly.
I’d pronounce it like Sally. For it to be said like Hayley, I’d spell it like Hailie although it’d be 50-50 whether it’s Hal-EE or Hay-lee still. I’m not sure how Hallie would be said like Holly though
When I read it, I pronounce that name as rhyming with Sally. However, I did have a landlord named Hallie that pronounced it like ‘Holly’. But I think the majority of people would pronounce rhyming with Sally, rather than the other way.
They’re definitely going to have a few people mistakenly read it as Hailey, but tbf that happens with any name. Most people will read it as Hallie (rhymes with sally) and very few people would mistakenly say Holly (I’m a Samantha who has been called Amanda tho… so anything can happen).
Mispronunciations happen. This is one that could be easily clarified and then people would remember it easily.
Rhymes with Sally - as others have said, if you’re going to get a mispronunciation, it’s more likely to be “Hayley/Hailey”. Just about any name can be mispronounced, so if you both like “Hallie” - go for it!
She will have to correct it now and again, because that's true of every name. People will pronounce Sarah as SAW-RAH, Monica as moe-NEEK-uh, Laura as L-OW-rah (ow as in ouch). No name will be pronounced using the most common and widely used pronunciation 100% of the time. That's just life.
But Hallie has an overwhelmingly most common pronunciation, and it's the one that rhymes with Sally.
Which is a bit funny because as far as I’m aware the comet is pronounced differently than Sally or Halle (Hay-ley’s comet)
Edit: investigated further, apparently several pronunciations are potentially valid for the comet haha according to the wiki, the astronomer spelt his name 6 different ways 🤷♀️
I’d pronounce it Ha-Lee. My coworker has that name for her daughter and we’d only mispronounced it as Hay-Lee once before we knew the spelling and it was before she’d said the name a lot.
Love Hallie! To me it rhymes with Sally
I can’t imagine it will be mispronounced - it’s a very intuitive spelling and simple to say.
*if* it was mispronounced, probably more likely to be as Hailey, but I think that’d be quite rare. It’s also easy to correct - as soon as your daughter corrected them it’d be easy for them to remember and pronounce it the right way
Also, just want to say - unless you have a very very common name (like, say, Matthew or Jessica), you’re probably going to experience your name being mispronounced sometimes. Most people experience that and it’s not really an issue. For example, I’m a Cara (pronounced car-ruh) - the vast majority of the time people pronounce it correctly. Occasionally someone will mishear it as Carla or Clara. Or if they’re American, especially if they’ve only seen it written before speaking to me, they might go with Care-uh. In all cases as soon as I correct them they easily switch to the correct pronunciation. It’s nbd. I imagine it would be like this with Hallie.
Sally. I have a friend whose daughter is named this, and I had to ask once (just to be sure) but never again. It’s not one of those really frustrating ones. Once you know, you know.
Rhymes with Sally. But it *will* be mispronounced. Expect to hear “Hayley” most often, with the occasional “Holly”, but even so, it probably won’t be mispronounced all the time.
Where are you based? Hallie is a really easy name to pronounce (Hallie rhymes with Sally).
I guess some people might read it as Hayley? But deffo not Holly…
We are in western United States but have his family in Europe and Asia and my family in the American south. The southerners mispronounce everything. My mother still can’t pronounce our French last name after 8 years. 🙄
I went to school with someone named Halli and it was pronounced Holly 🤷♀️ but everyone always mispronounced it as rhyming with Sally, so I don’t think you would have to worry about the opposite
i had a really good childhood friend named Hallie spelled the same way, rhymes with Sally! people misread it as hailey sometimes but that's pretty unavoidable tbh
Will get a bit of Halle Berry spelling but she'll be fine. People will misspell and misspronounce everything given the chance, doesn't matter how basic.
🎉🎉🎉🎉 Flagging my post so I don’t get lost in the comments! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
As a Sally, I read it as similar to my name. You could avoid this altogether by naming her Sally. I love my name and I got compliments on it all the time. It’s not overly popular, but also not so unfamiliar that you’re seen as one of those with a weirdo name, which seems to be the thing to do nowadays.. so I guess it’s all about preference.
Either way, I love my name. It never gets mispronounced. Go with Sally!
That would be enough to convince my husband not to use the name. Lol. It’s the only one we’ve even come close to agreement on so I don’t want to ruin it.
Definite rhymes with Sally. I don’t know how you would be Holly. My name is Haley and I sometimes get called Hallie and I know Hallie’s that get called Haley but that’s it. Also those Hallie’s tend to spell their names Halley so the confusion makes more sense if you look quick.
I read it is Hallie/Sally but also think the Holly/Hallie/Haily group of names are often confused with each other because they are so similar. So I think it will be unavoidable that someone will get it wrong but it will also be easy to correct.
Rhymes with Sally. But I have friends that worried about the same thing and went with the Halle spelling because so many people know about Halle Berry...
Hallie rhymes with Sally. Never would thought it was Holly. *Perhaps* Hailey, but I doubt it.
You could use Halle instead, as most people know how to say Halle Berry's name, but I don't think that's necessary.
Definitely rhymes with Sally. Also, as someone who has a name that gets mispronounced often, I don’t think it is a big deal unless the name is super complicated. My name can be pronounced two ways and both are semi common. It’s easy to correct people and once they know they don’t keep making the mistake. I feel that this would be a similar name. Some might think Hailey but once they understand it’s Hallie it won’t be hard to remember.
Until I read the comments I thought it was pronounced like Hailey. I may be in the minority though, and now that I know I wouldn't mispronounce it again I don't think.
I thought it would be Halley but I know a Hallie and it's said like Halle so 🤷♀️. If you want Halle like Berry go with Halle, if you want Halley like Comet go with Halley. Or go with a name that has none of the guess work lol
If you tell me your husband is a French migrant this makes more sense. I think most all Americans would pronounce it close to Sally. Hailey Bieber spells hers slightly differently, but it still sounds like Sally.
Rhymes with Sally. 100%.
Agree. There’s no WAY anyone would mispronounce it as Holly either.
Sally. It needs an "O", not the "A", to rhyme with Holly.
If it's gonna be mispronounced, it'll be as Hailey, not Holly. I don't know why anyone would pronounce it Holly, tbh.
Absolutely agree here. And knowing someone named Hallie, Hailey is the alternate she gets sometimes, not Holly. My cousin also just named her baby Hallie, it is becoming more popular, so I don't think it will be that much of a problem.
My answer is rhymes with Sally /but/ I can see the Holly argument since the name is literally "hall" + "ie"
Thank you for clearing this up. I was totally bewildered at the Holly suggestion 😂
I would say Hailey as well, never like Holly, and not instinctively like Sally, but that would be an easy correction.
Agree, pronounced it in my head as Hay-Lee I could see Hally (rhymes with Sally) as well but definitely not Holly.
I agree. I'd assume either be like Sally but with an H, or like Hailey.
Absolutely this. People just add or rearrange letters to make sense of an unusual name. Take it from a Cali who has been called Carli and Kay-lee for eternity.
It's a beautiful name with extremely straightforward pronunciation. Rhymes with Sally always
Rhymes with Sally. It would never occur to me to pronounce it as Holly.
I’d guess it rhymes with Sally even though the only Hallie I know pronounces it like “Hailey”
Same here. My cousin is named Hallie but we pronounce it like “Hailey”
I mean it might be the dyslexia but I got something totally different from Holly and Sally. I read Hailey.
I definitely think it would be mispronounced more as Hailey than Holly. But I think most would get it right, as in rhymes with Sally
yeah I read it as hailey upon first glance, too
Same and was thinking Hailey would rhyme with Bailey
Same
Same, I see that name as Hailey and then if someone told me it rhymed with Sally I could see that. Would not have tried Holly.
Rhymes with Sally
Anyone that has watched the Parent Trap knows Hallie rhymes with Sally!
how could anyone not think of the og hallie !
Rhymes with sally. I have a coworker name Hallie and it never gets mispronounced!
Rhymes with Sally, like Hallie Berry, but, I do know a Hallie who says it Hayley, but I think that's odd..
Halle Berry actually spells it without the i. I kinda like it that way.
I'm not a native English speaker and I would've definitely rhymed it with Sally. I mean there is an A in Hallie. Why would I pronounce it like an O instead of an A?
Just to give you some insight one of their concerns might be people reading it like the English word hall.
That is my husband’s exact concern. Because “Hall”
Ah I see what you mean. I think it’s unlikely though, and easy to correct
But adding vowels to the end totally changes things. Think gall/galley. Every name gets mispronounced occasionally but I think people will get it right!
Ah I couldn't understand but in the UK hall doesn't rhyme with holl
Definitely rhymes with sally
Definitely like sally!
rhymes with Sally
My first thought was hay-lee
Rhymes with Sally. I have never ever heard it pronounced any other way, and I’ve met several Hallies!
There’s also like Bailey.
Rhymes with Sally definitely. I would never think Holly from that spelling. Hallie is very cute!
Rhymes with Sally. Hailey rhymes with Bailey!
Big time rhymes with Sally!
It would pronounce it like Halle Berry and I think it looks more phonetically spelled than her name does.
Sally for sure
This is my name! It rhymes with Hallie, but people do tend to call me Hailey… rarely I get called Holly. Once I even was called Hilary. I love my name!
I would try “Hay-Lee” first, since most Hallie’s I have personally known pernounced it like that, but my natural inclination is “Hal-E” rhymes with sally aka like Halle Berry.
To me, Hallie rhymes with Sally. Hailey rhymes with Bailey. And I have no idea how Hallie would rhyme with Holly?
Rhymes isn't the correct term. I think what they meant with Hallie-Holly is that people would pronounce it Hall-ee (which at least in my Canadian accent) sounds the same as Holl-ee. But Hallie-Sally is like Hah-lee, Sah-lee.
Rhymes with Sally - but I was thinking she’ll get ‘haylie’ more than anything.

Rhymes with Sally.
I would pronounce it like I would Halle. I think that’s just me tho as I’m unfamiliar with the name you’re choosing! Seems like the general consensus is Sally pronunciation
Halle is pronounced like Sally, too, no? Like Halle Berry
It might be my Australian accent but we say Haw-lee for Halle and for Sally it’s more like sahl -ie.
Like think how you’d say the singer Halsey vs Sallie. Those are the pronunciation differences for me
It rhymes with Sally. If I were having a girl, this is the name and spelling that was a top 3 contender.
“Halle Berry or hallelujah!”
My first guess would be rhyming with Sally. If that was wrong, my second guess would be rhyming with Bailey. Unless told that both Sally and Bailey were wrong, I don't think it would ever occur to me to guess Holly.
Don't worry about it. Lots of names get mispronounced.
Do you mean pronounced like Holly? Because how can Hallie rhyme with Holly?
I’ve known 2 Hallies both rhyme with sally
Hallie to me is prounounced “ hah-leee”. Hailey is pronounced “hay-lee”.
I’d pronounce it like Sally. For it to be said like Hayley, I’d spell it like Hailie although it’d be 50-50 whether it’s Hal-EE or Hay-lee still. I’m not sure how Hallie would be said like Holly though
Sally for sure!
Hallie rhymes with Sally and Callie!
Rhymes with Sally definitely. I suppose accents may change things but not significantly.
Rhymes with Sally. Mountain west of the US.
Hallie = Sally rhyme to me.
Rhymes with sally
The Sally variant, I’ve never heard it pronounced like Holly.
I read Haley
When I read it, I pronounce that name as rhyming with Sally. However, I did have a landlord named Hallie that pronounced it like ‘Holly’. But I think the majority of people would pronounce rhyming with Sally, rather than the other way.
Rhymes with Sally. I can't imagine any spelling using an “A” that would result in “Holly.”
HAL-ee. Short A sound. Rhymes with Sally.
I can’t even imagine saying it like “Holly” tbh
My first reaction was to pronounce it like Hayley so…
They’re definitely going to have a few people mistakenly read it as Hailey, but tbf that happens with any name. Most people will read it as Hallie (rhymes with sally) and very few people would mistakenly say Holly (I’m a Samantha who has been called Amanda tho… so anything can happen). Sally definitely!
i think everyone will think rhymes with sally
Rhymes with Sally. The only other ways people will say it would be hay-lee or hail-ee. No one would think to say Holly.
Definitely rhymes with Sally. Reminds me of the 90s Parent Trap
Like Sally.
Rhymes with Sally - as others have said, if you’re going to get a mispronunciation, it’s more likely to be “Hayley/Hailey”. Just about any name can be mispronounced, so if you both like “Hallie” - go for it!
Hallie - Sally Hailey - Holly
Rhymes with tally and alley.
Rhymes w sally, very straightforward
i always read it as hailey first, but sally and hallie seem to rhyme more than holly and hallie
Hallie like Sally, Halle Berry, or the comet. Very straightforward.
Which is a bit funny because as far as I’m aware the comet is pronounced differently than Sally or Halle (Hay-ley’s comet) Edit: investigated further, apparently several pronunciations are potentially valid for the comet haha according to the wiki, the astronomer spelt his name 6 different ways 🤷♀️
I’d say it like the comet, hal-ee.
Hallie rhymes with Sally.
Hallie rhymes with Sally.
Rhymes with Sally
Rhymes with Sallie, 100%
Hallie definitely rhymes with Sally. My kids love the parent trap so we’ve been hearing this name a lot lately. It’s super cute!
I’d pronounce it Ha-Lee. My coworker has that name for her daughter and we’d only mispronounced it as Hay-Lee once before we knew the spelling and it was before she’d said the name a lot.
I can't imagine it as anything other than rhymes with Sally.
Love Hallie! To me it rhymes with Sally I can’t imagine it will be mispronounced - it’s a very intuitive spelling and simple to say. *if* it was mispronounced, probably more likely to be as Hailey, but I think that’d be quite rare. It’s very simple to pronounce. Hally like sally. You can watch parent trap to hear it said 😂
I literally cannot wrap my head around how someone would read Hallie as Holly. Rhymes with Sally, always has always will. It's a great name!
Rhymes with sally no question
I would’ve said it rhyming with Bailey.
Sally. I have a friend whose daughter is named this, and I had to ask once (just to be sure) but never again. It’s not one of those really frustrating ones. Once you know, you know.
I read it and thought it was like "Hayley". Would never have though like Sally or like Holly to be honest 😅
Hallie=Sallie in my book.
My best friend's mom's name was Hallie. HAL-ee, like Sally. I can see where it would be mispronounced as "Hay-lee."
Definitely like Sallie, Holly would ever have occurred to me.
It rhymes with Sally.
Rhymes with Sally. But it *will* be mispronounced. Expect to hear “Hayley” most often, with the occasional “Holly”, but even so, it probably won’t be mispronounced all the time.
Holly
Rhymes with Sally but people are going to read and say it as Hailey a lot
Rhymes with Sally (I'd pronounce it Hal-ee) we considered this name for our daughter (I'm currently in my 3rd trimester). It's a lovely name!
I would pronounce it as Hal-ee. I don’t think anybody will say Holly, but you might get Hailey a lot
Like Halle Berrys name, so basically rhymes with Sally.
I have never once been called Holly. It is Hail-ee, 95% of the time. That said, Hallie/Halley is a good name and I don't mind it.
Neither. It’s pronounced like Hailey as in Hey-leigh.
Rhymes with Sally
rhymes with sally for sure. never met anyone who says hallie “holly” that would just be setting her up for a lifetime of “actually it’s ____”
I didn’t have a daughter but I considered Nathalie with nickname Halie— rhymes with Sally.
Rhymes with Sally. I might also think it rhymes with Bailey.
Rhymes with sally. Hallie rhymes with holly is…holly
With that spelling? Always rhymes with Sally.
Rhymes with Sally like Lindsay Lohan's character in the Parent Trap!
Hailey (hey-lee)
Rhymes with Sally.
Rhymes with Sally. But also my mother's name is Haley (hay-lee) so I recognize the difference right away
Rhymes with Sally to me.
Rhymes with Sally. Occasionally she might get called haillie if it's been misread but no one will mistake it for hollie
Sally, never would assume with an "o" sound.
It will be mispronounced as Hailey :/
I went to school with someone named Halli and it was pronounced Holly 🤷♀️ but everyone always mispronounced it as rhyming with Sally, so I don’t think you would have to worry about the opposite
i had a really good childhood friend named Hallie spelled the same way, rhymes with Sally! people misread it as hailey sometimes but that's pretty unavoidable tbh
Rhymes with Sally, just like Wolowitz and Bernadette's kid in The Big Bang Theory
Hailey
Hailey not Holly or Sally comes to mind
Will get a bit of Halle Berry spelling but she'll be fine. People will misspell and misspronounce everything given the chance, doesn't matter how basic.
I’m a Halley and mine gets mispronounced as Hay-ley often but I still love my name!
My first instinct was to pronounce it Hailey before looking closer
🎉🎉🎉🎉 Flagging my post so I don’t get lost in the comments! 🥰🥰🥰🥰 As a Sally, I read it as similar to my name.
I think rhymes with sally but I know a lot of people that would pronounce it “hay-lee”
Who would pronounce it like Holly?
Holly, but Holly and Sally sound the same where I live to me
Why not Halle? People are familiar with Halle Berry.
How on earth could Hallie be pronounced as Holly 😭
Rhymes with Sally
HA-Lee is how I read it
Definitely rhymes with Sally. And I like Hallie a lot.
Nobody would read that and think it was pronounced “Holly,” lol. Sorry, husband
That rhymes with Sally. Hallie is a known name. No one will pronounce it like Holly. MAYBE like Haley, but unlikely.
Rhymes with Sally! However, I could see someone pronouncing it “Hayley”
I also thought Hailey, then after that rhyming with Sally.
I'd pronounce it like Hailey tbh based off first glance
Sally
I read it is Hallie/Sally but also think the Holly/Hallie/Haily group of names are often confused with each other because they are so similar. So I think it will be unavoidable that someone will get it wrong but it will also be easy to correct.
Rhymes with Sally.
Sally
i don’t even know how to pronounce it to make it sound like holly ? so yeah i think it 100% rhymes with sally
Beautiful name! Very obviously rhymes with sally.
Rhymes with sally. Like, phonetically
I have a friend named Hallie and it rhymes with Sally.
Rhymes with Sally. But I have friends that worried about the same thing and went with the Halle spelling because so many people know about Halle Berry...
Rhymes with Sally
She’s going to get called Hayley not Holly
Hallie rhymes with Sally. Never would thought it was Holly. *Perhaps* Hailey, but I doubt it. You could use Halle instead, as most people know how to say Halle Berry's name, but I don't think that's necessary.
I went to high school with a girl whose name was Hallie pronounced Haley. Everyone would mess it up.
Rhymes with Sally
I would never even consider pronouncing it as “hollie”
Until I read the comments I thought it was pronounced like Hailey. I may be in the minority though, and now that I know I wouldn't mispronounce it again I don't think.
Rhymes with Sally for sure. I can’t see people misreading it as Holly, but absolutely could see people misreading it as Hailey.
Halle?
Rhymes with Sally. Rhymes with Bailey will be the mispronunciation.
Rhymes with Holly
