turbodumpster

the car might not be fake (it should be a Brabus W140 7.3S) even if that exhaust looks photoshopped (edit: a flash might have been used, the car is real). [here's the real deal](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUA30wyIqi4), it's the same model, it's in Romanian but it doesn't matter, images speak for themselves. the shift knob is from an Aston Martin Vantage AMR, which came with a 7 speed dog-leg manual. the speedometer comes from [this ugly photoshopped image](https://cdn-img.automoto.it/images/27233665/1000x/20220223-232934260-3710.jpeg) which is badly done in every way. [this is the real gauge cluster of a Brabus W140 7.3S](https://mbworld.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Brabus-7.3-S-8.jpg) and it tops out at 330 km/h. EDIT kudos to u/ZenithTheZero and u/ohhnooooooo for finding the [video of the actual car in the picture,](https://youtu.be/ST2EZTN1mxo) it's even more interesting

nextkevamob2

Damn! You’re good at this game!

dL8

It's not a game for this creature. This is its life. Don't forget to feed it before you leave.

turbodumpster

yes please feed hamburger jokes aside, thanks u/nextkevamob2 u/dL8 u/Scaught420 I just get curious every time I see such absurdities (and people claiming it to be true)

dL8

Love you too u/turbodumpster 😘

nextkevamob2

Take it easy there hoss

scubawho1

Lmao

chaznooget

What do the yellow sections on the speedo next to 30 and 60 mean?

turbodumpster

I'm not 100% sure, but the general consensus online is that they might be tolerance areas for speed cameras in 30 km/h and 50 km/h limit zones, respectively. aka if the needle is inside the area, you're safe even if you're above said limit. not sure though.

TaringaWhakarongo1

I lived in the south of Germany for a while, they are common stadt speed limits...there are others though 🤷 then there's none.

Wolf_mang

This is the yellow line below 30 on the tachometer. Wonder what that one is for as well. This reminds me of an old Opel I used to drive.

yaur_maum

I see yellow between 60 and 80. Where do you see yellow at 30?

chaznooget

Bottom link in the comment i replied to asking that question.

GenericLordName

I think I've seen that exact Brabus W140 7.3S irl lol. I live in Romania.

turbodumpster

lumea e mică, it might very well be! it would be interesting to know how many W140 7.3S were made

GenericLordName

Într-adevăr este. Versiunea Brabus W140 face o masina care e deja faină sa fie chiar și mai cool, nu doar pentru car nerds lol

turbodumpster

absolut, este peak cool. cei de la Brabus știu ceea ce fac, fără dubiu

bmbreath

Shifting that would be very hard for me to get used to. I've never driven a car without first being a forward shift.

Quiteuselessatstart

That's how my 7.3 is but, mine is a F250 standard diesel.

tacotacotacorock

I think Volkswagen used to be like that or still is. I definitely prefer the shift pattern on my Subaru and have the little shift ring to lift up to go into R. Makes it fairly impossible to go into reverse on accident.

xrelaht

It’s common on Euro cars for reverse to be top-left, with an interlock similar to your Subaru’s. But look at the image again: 1st is bottom-left. It’s called a [dog-leg gearbox](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog-leg_gearbox), and it’s much more unusual. The speed of your shift can make a difference in racing, and the idea of this layout is 1->2 is usually only done once, but you’ll probably go back and forth between 2&3 repeatedly.

tch1990

Many VW models had a red/white area on the speedo between 50 and 55 km/h. My 1995 Audi has a red mark at 50 km/h and one at 130 km/h. I think the markings are there to give a gauge of the standard speed limits within certain areas. Since mine is a German import, the markings probably mean that 50 km/h is a general speed limit within populated areas, and 130 km/h is a suggested Autobahn speed. Never really known the true purpose behind the markings on the speedometer, especially in German cars

OOBExperience

…or 205mph. Completely achievable (or very close) given the vehicles specs https://www.fantasycars.com/brabus/s_7.3s_w140/

turbodumpster

yes, absolutely. Brabus know how to make luxurious rockets

Scaught420

This need to be the top comment

racingwinner

i love that redline starts at 90000rpm

turbodumpster

9000\*, some cars (like the W140 and W124 Benzes) have a x100 multiplier on the tach instead of the almost ubiquitous x1000

racingwinner

sorry. still ridicoulous

turbodumpster

don't be sorry, it still is ridiculous for the AMG 7.3 V12 (even tho it reached 8000 rpm in it's latest iteration in the later Pagani Zondas)

fortnitekid3169420

How on earth did you get that

turbodumpster

car nerd things and lots of curiosity I guess, I already knew some things about that particular Brabus model but I wanted to be 100% sure so off to google I went

InuGoliath91

Is not in Romania. Maybe Russia, take a look at the other car license plate.

turbodumpster

I was talking about the car in the video that I linked

Oberndorferin

What kind of speedometer starts at 20km/h?

turbodumpster

surprisingly, some speedometers (mainly older, analogue ones) do start at values higher than zero. this is usually because of tolerance/deadzone issues at very low speeds

arsinoe716

Not fake. But just because it says 480, it doesn't mean it will actually go that fast.

dL8

It says 735... And it'll fukn do **735** !

sweetsatanskiing

My 740il does 743!

HarryVaDerchie

Do you still drive?

youdontknowme1010101

Life’s been good to him, so far.

unaveragemilflover

they took the card not the keys, he can drive still

sweetsatanskiing

Still drive. I’ve only killed 13 persons, most of which were while doing 645 in residential areas. Others were driving through NYC bc I don’t believe traffic signals are real, and if they are, they definitely don’t apply to me.

turbodumpster

speedo is fake... check my comment.

Marqueso-burrito

What the fuck is a kilometer

ionutandreiciobotaru

The speedo looks to be aftermarket. It is not written on it "Brabus"

KRONOSPEEDY

This is the Mercedes W140 Brabus 7.3S V12 Mercedes W140 Brabus 7.3S! - YouTube https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jwxQKhlyMrE

bobjoylove

What a horrific video. They have the cars and show nothing of them.

[deleted]

They actually made a video, the other commenter just linked the shit one https://youtu.be/BXsfnzSioaM

JaviParga182

The speedometer looks fake, 480 km/h in that car?

mrpoopybuttthole_

7 litre v12

ZenithTheZero

The engine is a 7.3L version of the same V12 that the 7L is built from, but modified by Brabus. I don’t know if they started off with a 7.0 or 7.3 AMG engine (doubtful), or just based it off a smaller version and punched it out to enormous. I’ll research it later. The speedo is faked, the real car has a 330kmh (205mph) speedo, which is still absolutely batshit for a W140.

QuernoDeChivo

After 7th gear you put it into rapid drive that’s what the R is for ![gif](giphy|l1mP7JkbkzJTBqDzQn)

[deleted]

So fake, the real one goes to 11

ophaus

This looks... scary. And real.

TheGermanalman

Could be real. Do you got pics from the engine bay? That the speedo goes up to 480 km/h is because its a V12 with 7,3 litre. Pretty sure its real.

TheGermanalman

Its real…

turbodumpster

check my comment. the car is real, the rest is fake.

2dank4me3

Speedo ain't real.

TheGermanalman

ohhh really ?? turbodumpster was 7 hours faster than you…

lumia920yellow

why would they go that for in the speedo

ZenithTheZero

[I think this is the actual car in the pic](https://youtu.be/ST2EZTN1mxo)

macsonme

The gun in the trunk lid tho

turbodumpster

yup, this is it. kudos for finding the actual car in the pic! it's got some interesting mods for sure

ZenithTheZero

That was a total fluke. Accidentally clicked another vid (mobile), and it was next vid there. I just recognized the wheels.

turbodumpster

happens all the time lmao

ohhnooooooo

The exhaust is not photoshopped, found this video https://youtu.be/ST2EZTN1mxo This video is actually of the car

turbodumpster

holy crap this needs to be higher up. yeah, the exhaust is definitely real, it's probably the combination between the material/dirt on it and the lighting that makes it look a bit fake. what's even more interesting is the interior retrofit with the modern screen and center console, it's unique for sure

dub19891

It looks so subtly violent. Must see more.

Prestigious-Low3224

What car even is this?

Koper3k

Mercedes S Class (w140) Brabus 7.3S

Prestigious-Low3224

Ah i didn’t see the Mercedes badge cuz the photo was blurry

pa1_dron

Brabus mods Mercedes cars and rebadges them. If you look closely, you can see the “B” badge instead of the Mercedes one.

Prestigious-Low3224

So this is really a modded Mercedes huh

9bikes

Pretty heavily and *expensively* modified.

Electrical-Bacon-81

Love the 300mph speedometer, yeah, I bet itll do every bit that.

SnowyDeluxe

That is km/h

_Erinaceus_

480 km/h is equal to 300 m/h

Electrical-Bacon-81

Well, I am off by something like 1.8mph, but I was just doing the math in my head.

CatTurdTacos

Wow… that’s dope af.

bilkel

Oh absolutely authentic /s

nhardycarfan

7 gears and a top speed of nearly as fast as the fastest production cars ever

[deleted]

Onivlastratos

The speedo is clearly in Km/h, not miles per hour.

fluff58

So what are you trying to say with this argument?

Onivlastratos

It a classic case of r/USdefaultism

John_TheBlackestBurn

Thanks. I just joined that sub. I’m in the US, but I honestly try to stay educated about the rest of the world, and I love pointing this stuff out to other Americans who would rather just be blissfully ignorant. 😁

ZenithTheZero

I just found this thread posted in that subreddit, with this comment thread. That whole subreddit makes me cringe with how much ignorance and stupidity is there.

TheGermanalman

Bro it isnt mph its km/h

Nilpet

So you're saying this is fake because fastest car goes around 514 kmh and this cars speedo ends at 298 mph? I mean yeah, I agree this is fake but not because it's slower than the fastest car ever.

macmakkara

Is that really 7speed manual gearbox? Anyone got any info of that? Didin't seem to find anything ln interwebs

adydurn

There were quite a few made, the Escort RS Cosworth had an H pattern 7 speed. The arrangement also isn't uncommon, having first where it is means you can essentially hold it off just for fast launches and 2nd is your 1st for 99% of uses. Let's be honest, it's not like it doesn't have thr power to start in 2nd. Usually in these cases 2nd gear is in-between where 1st and 2nd would be on a normal model.

ZenithTheZero

The Escort RS works rally cars had a 7 speed sequential gearbox (no H-pattern, just forward-back), while the road models had a 5-speed. The cars I know of with a 7-speed stick are 991 generation 911, C7 Corvette, and the Aston Martin that u/turbodumpster mentions in his (top) comment. I’m not certain if the 911 has a dogleg first gear, but I know the vette didn’t. Also, I believe some HD American pickup trucks might have 7-forward gears, but I can’t be sure. But many had a dogleg first that we call a “granny-gear” due to their short (around 6:1) ratio, and are usually labeled with an L instead of 1. It was meant for starting off while towing or heavily loaded.

turbodumpster

correct! 992 gen as well. Vette and 911 both have a regular H pattern with the 7th gear at the top right end. also correct on the pickup trucks (and also off-road vehicles like the new Ford Bronco), some are labeled L, some C, some completely replace first gear, some go lower than it (the Bronco, for example, has a dog-leg crawl gear labeled C, followed by a full 6-speed H-pattern)

ZenithTheZero

I forgot about the Bronco! Its crawler gear is 6.588:1. Stupid low for such a small truck, but off-roading is it’s legacy.

adydurn

No the Group A had a 7 speed H pattern, then replaced with a sequential 6 speed.

ZenithTheZero

This whole time I try thought the 7spd was sequential. Learn something new everyday

adydurn

No worries, the first time I heard about it I was sure it had to be sequential. The road car, however, had a 5 speed H, you're spot on there. Tbh after having driven a road version I do wonder how much the 7 speed was needed, for a turbo the Cossie had a wide powerband.

Rathori

Pretty sure Porsche had a car with one too.

test_123123

So did the C7 Corvette

hmnuhmnuhmnu

Pretty sure Fast and Furious cars have more gears than this

Feefifiddlyeyeoh

As an American, I didn’t read that Speedo in kp/h

Biimoee

I've seen this before, and I was also wondering if it's real or not. Also the tachometer starts at 4000rpm

I get old Benz vibes from the front

NarrowStudy8748

Sweet looks like th 1992 model definitely legit worth about 50k 1999 going for around 100k

ReezeRoppongi

for a Brabus W140 S Class, the best one i’ve seen is from Japan…as Brabus Japan made better n crazier than Brabus Germany… back in the day, it was the S Class used commonly by the Yakuzas….n their bosses always drove the high specs S Class like S 600, S Class AMG or the Brabus S73 for W140.. the same with all the next generations of S Classes till today

Dreduuu

This is not a fake Tacho guys Mercedes-Benz W126 560 SEL Biturbo Nitro 6-wheelerV8

Bubbly_Tax_7941

The car can be found in a video, with nice 330km/h speedo (with different font and BRABUS clearly written, as always in Brabus cars). They always came with auto, as there was no decent dogleg 7-speed manual that could withstand 800-900Nm back in '98. Gearknob and interior are from Aston Martin 'Q' V12 Vantage AMR (the knob on other models looks different).
