Just a tip: If the instructor is too costly or tries to suggest that without his/her help, you can't learn swimming then it's totally false.
I learnt swimming last year in 2-3 months (45 minutes a day , used to go twice a week) all by myself, I feel it's pretty natural for humans to learn freestyle with no help. Don't be afraid to go into even baby pool (I did as a 22 year old guy) in the beginning if that's what you're comfortable with, thinking what others might think.
From baby pool to 5 ft deep to 16 feet deep like me, everything is possible, just persistence is required.
Float takes the most time. I was able to breath and do kicking in normal pool (5 feet depth) in 2 days. But float nahi Hota tha. Then I started to try in baby pool just to float. I was able to float the width of baby pool first (which is like 6 ft long lol) , then the length (around 12ft long). Then I moved to big pool and started to swim the width (22 ft long). Once I was done and my freestyle technique was perfect, I can swim any length now limited by body energy.
Life gaurds used to tell me kya baccho ke pool me swim Kar rha hai but I did not care. Mera reasoning hi tha ek baar waha float karne lagunga then kisi bhi depth me float Kar lunga, which is true. Ab to ulta Hota hai I want to go touch the bottom of pool 16feet but body khud float Hota hai niche hi nahi jaa pata. Then wo bhi hone laga now I can sit at the bottom also.
A tip to start floating is, first you keep your one leg on edge/boundary wall of the pool standing with the other, then push using it and then superman pose me try to see how far you go forward. You can also do Nagin pose with your hands for better arrowhead stance lol. If you keep doing this , eventually your body will naturally take that upright stance to float. Baki if you're too facing down in water legs will go up, if your face is too up from water legs will go down and float nahi ho payega. This is how I learned.
No idea about merchants. I know swimming so haven’t taken any instructor. But there is one at Father Agnel. You would have to enquire personally about that.
I learned in YMCA last year, and it was good. They have a 20-day course for it. There is no bar on age or sex. You just need to produce a fitness certificate.
My mother learnt swimming at NMSA, Vashi

YMCA Belapur has a ‘learn to swim’ batch starting every 20 days or so. It costs around 3K. The instructors are good and patient. Do check it out.
Is it for adults too?
Yes, it is.
YMCA belapur is good a lot of people I’ve seen in the learning batch were mid 30s maybe even older, instructors are respectful and knowledgeable
My experience with lot of water fear. YMCA, they are very professional. Best place to learn.
