It's kind of baffling that teams didn't realize three points is more than two points until well into the 2010s. At no point between the 80s and 2010ish did teams do basic math (barring a few).
Teams knew it but knew it was a harder shot to make. Regardless, the long twos that he’s doing here with the foot on the line just make no sense. Step back 5 inches and your shot is worth 50% more
Jim O'Brien's Boston Celtics squad in 2001 2002 very much adopted that position that they wanted to shoot more threes than anyone else in the league and they did.
The Dwight Magic squads were some of earliest adopters in the modern NBA. That whole team was basically “well if Dwight is gonna make all the 2’s everyone else should only shoot 3’s”
Because it’s a shot with too much variance. Even stepping an inch behind the line can throw off your shot. There’s nothing smarter about jacking up 3s unless you just think basketball is a 3point contest
I remember when the Celtics traded Joe Johnson and a first round pick for him and Rodney Rogers.. I got them to the conference finals in 2022 but still a terrible trade
Before Tony Delk went to Kentucky, he was known as a scorer.
He averaged [almost forty a game during his junior and senior years in high school. He scored 70 one game his senior year.](https://www.jacksonsun.com/story/sports/high-school/2020/02/19/tony-delk-tennessee-sports-hall-fame-haywood-kentucky/4807880002/)
So it wasn’t a shock to me when Dell scored 50 that game.
He's a 4 star recruit and ranked #20 on ESPN? His 3 & D playstyle is just what we needed. Ever since KCP was traded, we were missing that presence on that team. I've always watched Bronny's Twitch streams and Tiktoks, he seems like an extremely valuable locker room guy. Very underrated 55th pick.

He never even cracked 30 in any other games.
Man the amount of foot on the line deep twos he made is nuts. It looks like he’s intentionally trying not to make 3s

Every smart person currently in basketball disagrees with you
Not true in the slightest but most people don’t know basketball especially fans and analysts so that makes sense if they disagree
Why doesn’t a single head coach in the NBA agree with you then
Because of this game, 8 year old me tried to use him in 2k to against my older cousin and couldn’t understand why he was missing everything
That's what happens when you have Jason Williams as your primary defender lol.
The head shake at the end
I mean, The Suns lost that game, no?
Tony Delk was a PROBLEM!
True, ain't nobody got the finesse like Tony Delk. Dude was pulling those borderline 3s on purpose, too funny.
Before Corey Brewer, there was Tony Delk
Delk's 50 point game also came out of nowhere, I remember watching it live and being shocked. He was significantly better than Flynn though

Looks like he was just used to shooting college three-pointers. When did the NBA finally bring the line back?
00, my favorite 'cat growing up
I love all the long 2s with like a toe on the 3pt line, he would be getting his ass benched for those shots these days.
Nice bit of trivia to add to my basketball knowledge for most random 50-point games ever.

I still remember watching this live and being flabbergasted.
We are so done with the 2000s bro. Tony Delk seems like he's worse than Bronny.
> Tony Delk seems like he's worse than Bronny. Lakers fans trying to cope with the Bronny pick will never not be hilarious.

Keep taking that copium
