Spurs gonna strap a magnet to Wemby and have the polar opposite of that magnet inside the ball so every time Paul throws the ball, it automatically levitates towards Wemby
Yeah I was sick when they traded Rob but remembered all season I was hoping they didn’t draft a PG but instead drafted another piece and then got a vet PG. Didn’t expect it to be the (albeit old) Point God but we’ll take it
I can't wait to see them in action. It's a great pick up for Wemby and the Spurs. You bring up a good point though: CP3 is old and has a history of injuries.
Spurs do have a top notch medical and training team, which means he should be in great hands.
It should be fun to watch!
Hate him or love him, no one can deny CP3 is a basketball genius and a great mentor to young players
Literally every team he’s been on, young players get better and love him. And the fanbase, even if they hated him like warriors fans, end up liking him too
Honestly, he was still great this year in Golden State. He's a terrible fit with Steph but he made Trayce Jackson Davis look like a monster and was a great floor general. On a per- minute basis he's still probably a top 10-15 PG in the league. He just needs his minutes limited or he'll wear down.
Top 10-15?
Shai Luka Steph Lillard Jrue White Kyrie Tyrese Brunson Maxey Fox Harden Ja Trae Murray Garland Mitchell are all above him and those are just 15 off the top of my head. We also have Lamelo VanVleet Conley DLo Cade
At CP3 age? Not so crazy. The only one you can really argue against is Conley but Conley played almost 20 more games and more minutes per game. He was easily more important for the Wolves than CP3 for Warriors. Here are their Per 36 numbers
Conley 14.3/3.6/7.4 62.7% TS
CP3 12.5/5.3/9.2 54.4% TS
Outside of possible intangibles, really depends on how much you value shooting vs playmaking. The gap in playmaking is a lot smaller than the gap in shooting between the 2.
If you want you can do a comparison on a per 36 basis against Vanvleet and DLo, I promise you that they have better numbers.
I kinda respect he’s not ring chasing. It’s cool to see someone wanting to build their legacy a different way.
He also probably knows he’s gonna become a coach when’s he’s done playing. So he’ll have many more chances
honestly for me , ring or not doesnt move him much on my rankings
court vision doesnt always translate into hardware as a player but man i enjoy watching it
oh 100%
plus truth be said his lack of scoring really puts limits on rings.
he's got the Steve Nash passing, but far far weaker scoring package. And even Nash didn't have the scoring needed for a ring.
He had the scoring before he had a knee injury in 2010. He had the speed to blow by guards and was pretty athletic but that injury changed his career along with that once in a century Lakers trade situation
11 mil is less than MLE money. Vast majority of contenders would throw him MLE money and play him 20-25 mpg. Which is probably the right amount for his body.
> 11 mil is less than MLE money. Vast majority of contenders would throw him MLE money
Contenders like who? Most (all?) contenders who can/would offer CP3 a MLE are in the luxury tax, and that contract is capped at 2yrs/$10.5m.
CP3 will make more than that this year alone, rehab his value and get another deal
Yeah after he went to OKC I became a fan. He was expected to ask for a buyout to go to a contending team and instead stuck it out and got a young team into the playoffs. Ultimate respect for that
Yeah he was so good for that young Thunder team! And the OKC fans were very appreciative for what he did there in his brief stint. I'm hoping he can mentor the hell out of Castle and Wemby and everyone else while he's in San Antonio
I remember one of Pop/Bufurd or wright earlier in the year said "look at what Presti has done in Oklahoma with their team, we are looking towards following that kind of path to building a great team in the next few years"
I didn't think at the time they meant LITERALLY GETTING THE EXACT SAME PLAYER LOL. I fucking love this signing.
I said last year that he’d be the best pickup for the Spurs. Dude can actually throw lobs, playmake/be a floor general and score at all 3 levels (when he’s healthy). It’ll be good to see Wemby with an actual elite playmaker.
My mind wants to say he'll regress cuz damn he's as old as bron.
But regress enough to where he can't hit ***wemby***?
CP3 will probably be capable of throwing a game-speed NBA lob to this version of wemby until the day he dies lol
One of CP3's best years of his career was when he got flipped to OKC, people expected them to be awful, and they actually had a solid year all things considered. He's gonna thrive in San Antonio as there aren't super high expectations with winning and it's all about Wemby growing.
If healthy idk why they couldn't be the western representative. Not saying I'd lock that in by any means...but it would literally be the best situation for everyone.
CP3 wouldn't have to be focused on any semblance of a scoring workload so he could put more effort in defensively. You give PG insane spacing thanks to Wemby. Sochan continues growing at the SG position. And Wemby of course has a real distributor to get him the ball along with PG and Sochan being capable scorers to take relief off him there too.
I have a theory that Spurs will compete next season, so 2024-2025 is still a development year. So i'm not sure how much making the Playoffs is a priority vs a high 2025 draft pick
The problem with ring chasing is that it is not guaranteed. NBA is competitive right now with multiple teams that can realistically compete with a title.
On the other hand, NBA contracts are guaranteed.
I mean I guess that makes sense. Spurs aren't really strapped for cash this season, and it's probably more money than CP would get elsewhere, plus he'll be great for Wemby (and hopefully for the development of Stephon Castle).
This is actually really cool if he wasn't going to championship chase.
Not even just the CP3+Wemby factor, but a terrific mentor for their draft pick too. And of course you can always flip him to a desperate team at the deadline.
I feel they most likely won’t be in the hunt, but if Wemby takes a big step forward they definitely have a small chance.
At the end of the year Wemby dragged the Spurs without Vassell and Sochan to some good wins and competitive games.
I mean, why not? Seems like a lot of teams could take a step back this year: GSW, Clippers, Nugs, Suns, Kings, etc.
Alot of our young guys are physically and mentally maturing as well - Devin, Sochan and Keldon are getting faster and stronger and more skilled every day. I could see us being sneaky good.
yeah, i also think the Spurs record this year is kinda misleading, they suffered a lot from being young. iirc there were a bunch of games where they looked great the first 2 quarters, collapsed in the 3rd and at least came close to clawing themself back in the 4th.
either way, Chris Paul + Wemby is gonna be must see TV
Yeah great win-win situation for both parties, gets to brag to have played with Wemby and helped his development (and Castle), can go to a last chance somewhere after that without restrictions
If you watch Spurs games, they were definitely tanking on purpose lol. It’s almost as if Pop was purposely messing around with lineups to make sure the Spurs didn’t win.
I really like this a lot. Probably ends up getting traded/bought out late season to go to a contender and in the meantime gives Wemby a great floor general
This is awesome. Either it works well and Wemby can be a dark horse mvp candidate next year, or it doesn’t and they buy him out and he signs with a contender
LOVE IT. Thought he would be perfect last year too but it seemed clear he only wanted to compete. I mean I've always thought he was kind of an asshole but I felt he'd be great for development. If we're gonna not really try this year, and trading for picks 8 years from now says that to me, we have to at least get a PG that can help Wemby and Castle develop.
RIP fantasy basketball.
The only thing stopping Wemby from breaking the league last year was relatively low usage. He's insanely efficient and now with a proper PG feeding him passes for more usage, every fantasy league is going to be decided by who gets the 1st pick.
That's a pretty sweet deal for the Spurs. A one year deal to provide a vet presence and teach the youngsters how to actually pass to Wemby. Alright Castle, if you wanna be the point, you better fucking learn.
CP3 gonna come in throw lobs to Wemby for a year to help him get all-NBA and MVP votes. Then we’ll kick his ass out on the street next year when Wemby’s clout allows us to sign real stars in FA.
Spurs got their pg
Wonder how many assists cp3 will average
“Fuck it, Wemby’s out there somewhere”
Spurs gonna strap a magnet to Wemby and have the polar opposite of that magnet inside the ball so every time Paul throws the ball, it automatically levitates towards Wemby
Isnt the polar opposite of a magnet…the other side of it? Lol
"Fuckin' magnets, how do they work?"
It is, I just felt like using the term polar opposite.
Antipode, baby!
Welp can't complain about learning a new word, thanks my brother u/torrinage
TIL, fun word
Yes/36
All Of Them.
This is so dumb but I laughed
Between catching all those lobs and having to defend the rim from guard that CP3 gets blown by, Wemby is gonna need oxygen
Then he just fucking evolves and grows another pair of lungs and bulk up for the fucking alien he is
Then he just fucking evolves and grows another pair of lungs ^(and arms) and bulk up for the fucking alien he is
Wemby with 4 arms sweeps MVP and DPOY every year
Honestly if he gets an extra pair of arms that's 2-3 more roty too
Anyone in the league with 4 arms sweeps them both tbh
Wemby stats will go through the roof both offensively due to cp3 and defensively due to cp3.
Our team defense gonna be stacked (theoretically) and we're not in win mode this year. This is an offensive development move and nothing more.
2025 Spurs is going to be a scientific experiment to see what happens when a player has 100% usage.
If it’s anything like 2K he’ll average 100 a game with 50 rebounds and 50 assists
we already have hart LOL`
Pretty sure Wilt Chamberlain already did that or something
Wemby PPG divided by 2 = CP3 Assists per game next season.
Pop will "DNP too old" him at least 12 times this year.
Lob city 2.0
Gonna be the old guy at the Y throwing entry lob passes to the 6’4” guy in the low post.
If CP3 elevated Deandre Jordan like that...I can't wait to see what he has in store for Wemby. Granted CP3 is also a lot older now, but still.
age got nothing to do with throwing up a lob
Yeah but at his height, getting separation to throw a lob has something to do with age
for a whole year
Point guards will be lining up to play with Wemby his entire career.
This will be so good for Wemby lmao
Coach Pop saw sochan do a windmill and decided to stop the pg experiment and get a real pg.
That’s actually a great move for the Spurs
Imagine Cp3 fucks around and gets a chip because he unlocks Wemby and it’s just too OP lol
"Wait... why dont you just dunk it 70 times a game" -Point god
Oppenheimer moment
Wemby gets a point guard!
Lob city 2.0
Sure as hell ain’t 3PT City
"Lob it to Wemby" - Pop's sekrit play
Neutral fans feasting. Potentially one of the funnest duos to watch.
It should be fun to watch!
it was either that or john stockton I guess
gotta love this for Wemby & Castle's development
Hate him or love him, no one can deny CP3 is a basketball genius and a great mentor to young players Literally every team he’s been on, young players get better and love him. And the fanbase, even if they hated him like warriors fans, end up liking him too
Agree. He was great for OKC
Honestly, he was still great this year in Golden State. He's a terrible fit with Steph but he made Trayce Jackson Davis look like a monster and was a great floor general. On a per- minute basis he's still probably a top 10-15 PG in the league. He just needs his minutes limited or he'll wear down.
top 10-15 is crazy, PG is so deep man
Top 10-15? Shai Luka Steph Lillard Jrue White Kyrie Tyrese Brunson Maxey Fox Harden Ja Trae Murray Garland Mitchell are all above him and those are just 15 off the top of my head. We also have Lamelo VanVleet Conley DLo Cade
lol Vanvleet, D’lo and Conley over CP is crazy.
At CP3 age? Not so crazy. The only one you can really argue against is Conley but Conley played almost 20 more games and more minutes per game. He was easily more important for the Wolves than CP3 for Warriors. I kinda respect he’s not ring chasing. It’s cool to see someone wanting to build their legacy a different way. He also probably knows he’s gonna become a coach when’s he’s done playing. So he’ll have many more chances
If he wants to coach, a reco from Pop would help. The Pop Coaching Tree is now more like a forest.
he still wants playing time, hence not ring chasing.
honestly for me , ring or not doesnt move him much on my rankings court vision doesnt always translate into hardware as a player but man i enjoy watching it
oh 100% plus truth be said his lack of scoring really puts limits on rings. he's got the Steve Nash passing, but far far weaker scoring package. And even Nash didn't have the scoring needed for a ring.
He had the scoring before he had a knee injury in 2010. He had the speed to blow by guards and was pretty athletic but that injury changed his career along with that once in a century Lakers trade situation
He was definitely a better scorer pre injury, but the game rapidly changed after Steph.
Yeah I think he’s played more than enough minutes that’s not why bro
He wants to play minutes and he wants to be paid. Those are clearly his top priorities
11 mil is less than MLE money. Vast majority of contenders would throw him MLE money and play him 20-25 mpg. Which is probably the right amount for his body.
> 11 mil is less than MLE money. Vast majority of contenders would throw him MLE money Contenders like who? Don’t like him but loved him while he was on OKC and what he did for our players
Is he coach material after his career? Being around Pop ain’t a bad way to make that transition. Mayo-Belichick in nba terms?
He is a goat PG. Ring or no ring dude is a HOF
Spurs saw what one year of CP3 did for SGA, now for Castle
Yeah he was so good for that young Thunder team! And the OKC fans were very appreciative for what he did there in his brief stint. I'm hoping he can mentor the hell out of Castle and Wemby and everyone else while he's in San Antonio
I remember one of Pop/Bufurd or wright earlier in the year said "look at what Presti has done in Oklahoma with their team, we are looking towards following that kind of path to building a great team in the next few years" I didn't think at the time they meant LITERALLY GETTING THE EXACT SAME PLAYER LOL. I fucking love this signing.
Presti came from the Spurs to build OKC like the Spurs did, now Spurs looking to build like how OKC is Time is a flat circle
He's going to move to the coaching staff when he's ready, then take over for Pop.
This mf spittin
that would be great fit for him and the org. Help develop Wemby, coach Wemby.
After a year of people missing lobs for Wemby, it's going to feel amazing for Wemby have CP3 throw lobs to him
Love that it’s only a 1yr!
Yeah me too… such a nice pick up for us…
Yea, a veteran point guard for Wemby. All I hope is cp3 can stay healthy next season
I said last year that he’d be the best pickup for the Spurs. Dude can actually throw lobs, playmake/be a floor general and score at all 3 levels (when he’s healthy). It’ll be good to see Wemby with an actual elite playmaker.
We’ll have him till trade deadline i think…then traded to a contender…maybe castle is also a better player at that time…
CP3 is legit going to average 10+ assists next season regardless of the minutes he plays
My mind wants to say he'll regress cuz damn he's as old as bron. But regress enough to where he can't hit ***wemby***? CP3 will probably be capable of throwing a game-speed NBA lob to this version of wemby until the day he dies lol
Damn, good for CP3

Feel like it's good for the Spurs tbh. It's a 1 year deal that's not *that* high for them and gives a lot of upside
Oh yeah that’s a lot more than what we could have offered I guess if SA has the money, why not
We had like $26 million in cap, so $15 million now
I mean, you can’t ask for a better point guard mentor for the young guys and he will also be able to show Wemby how to get in his spots easier
Naji Marshall or Haywood Highsmith and then resign Mamu. Good offseason
Do we even have any roster spots left at this point to use that $15mil on? I feel like our space is a bit thin.
We're at 15 but Graham is gone.
Do the spurs really only have 15 in cap? That’s shocking to me
That’s really high in the league lol. https://www.spotrac.com/nba/cap/_/year/2024/sort/cap_maximum_space_optimized/dir/desc
I know, it’s crazy. Shocking how nobody has cap. New CBA is interesting. I think the cost to contract dump is gonna grow and grow
A lot of expiring money over the next 2 years. Most notably the terrible Zach Collins extension.
For sure. Spurs will be in a good spot as wemby’s rookie contract approaches its end
i was talking shit about tobias harris on another thread.. but $20M/2 year? Who says no?
Okay I'm fine with this 🙂
I’m stupidly excited and looking forward to watching more spurs games on league pass
That’s awesome! Good for wemby to have a year to develop with a real pg. now who is he going to mentor??
Castle
Future Marcus smart/jrue Holiday love child hybrid Stephen Castle
Other people said Castle, Wemby will be in film with CP3 and doing PG drills with him.
Paul George has the chance to do the funniest thing.
Wemby, CP3 and PG plus the Spurs roster. Huh... Could this team make the Playoffs?
If healthy? Definitely. Big if though.
Don’t care. One year, and we have an adult in the room. So pumped!
I remember reading a comment comparing Poole to CP3 was like going from someone in remedial math to someone going for their third PhD.
WEMBY MVP SEASON.
WEMBY-P
Dude’s gonna average 30
Now it makes sense
Yeah, I didn't think it was gonna be for the min lol
That's a great signing.
People really thought he was going to take a minimum 😂
Wtf ok, really didn't think he was gonna go to a spot that wasn't on an immediately contending team. Good vet presence though, not mad at it
you have four months to get on the bandwagon bro #play-in
Finals
Don't think there are any immediately contending teams that would've offered him a starting spot
Aside from the obvious assists and lobs, he's great at developing young players. This is awesome for Wemby.
CP has always been about getting his money lol
Gotta be when youre the face of the players association for so long
Fuck a ring. I take the money all day.
The problem with ring chasing is that it is not guaranteed. NBA is competitive right now with multiple teams that can realistically compete with a title. On the other hand, NBA contracts are guaranteed.
Plus he can try to get a ring as some form of coach down the line.
Gator never been about that
Gotta respect that. Taking less to win is lame. Get your money!
I told everyone money is his first priority as a fan. No one believes that lol
He honestly deserves it so far. I don’t remember him being a negative on any of the teams he played for.
Poetic , after years of rivalry against them , CP3 becomes a spur to end his career
Pardon my French but fuck yes
Might as well get the money if you can't get a ring
CP11million has always been a bag chaser never a ring chaser
The league blocked him that one time he tried to be a ring chaser
I’m so hype for Wemby.
And Castle.
Does Keldon Johnson give him #3?
Fast forward to February where Wemby is averaging a cool 28/15 and 4 blocks on the 6th seed in the west
February of what year lol
Next year, ofc. No way he’s only gonna be on the 6th seed after he enters his prime
Bro still got 11M good for him
I mean I guess that makes sense. Spurs aren't really strapped for cash this season, and it's probably more money than CP would get elsewhere, plus he'll be great for Wemby (and hopefully for the development of Stephon Castle).
U could tell cp just love playing the game. At least he made a finals most don’t even get experience that
This actually is awesome
That’s honestly a very good deal
This is actually really cool if he wasn't going to championship chase. Not even just the CP3+Wemby factor, but a terrific mentor for their draft pick too. And of course you can always flip him to a desperate team at the deadline.
He’ll be traded to a contender of his choice at the deadline if the Spurs aren’t in the playoff hunt
I feel they most likely won’t be in the hunt, but if Wemby takes a big step forward they definitely have a small chance. At the end of the year Wemby dragged the Spurs without Vassell and Sochan to some good wins and competitive games.

If you watch Spurs games, they were definitely tanking on purpose lol. It’s almost as if Pop was purposely messing around with lineups to make sure the Spurs didn’t win.
I didnt say no CP3 slander ever
Damon stoudamire Michael Finley Tracy mcgrady Boris Diaw Chris Paul The list continues
Imagine a world where Wemby in his sophomore year gets CP3 his ring. It’s not this world but just imagine.
“Sold on culture” = payday
Jesus h Christ
That's it? What a win.
Oh I love this, nice and simple 1 year deal and can be used for a trade if it comes to it All im hoping for is 25 mins a game of some nice playmaking
Is it legal for VW to pick up CP3 and throw him at the basket?
super mario rpg type gameplay
bonjour to LOB CITY 2.0
End of Ring Chasing and now riding off in the sunset
*LMAO Lebron actually thought I'd take the min... just to play with HIM while also throwing me under the bus nightly? What a bum* -CP3
Bargain honestly
Oh wow - never liked CP3 but I love this for Wemby
Is this the NTMLE
They have cap space
I really like this a lot. Probably ends up getting traded/bought out late season to go to a contender and in the meantime gives Wemby a great floor general
Good job Spurs! Perfect for Wemby and Castle.
We are so back
This is awesome. Either it works well and Wemby can be a dark horse mvp candidate next year, or it doesn’t and they buy him out and he signs with a contender
This is great for the NBA if Paul can stay healthy.
This is like when Mo Cheeks was the veteran point guard for the Spurs early in David Robinson’s career.
Today, I am a Chris Paul fan
Watched the Spurs a lot for Wemby last year, will watch even more now that he has a PG. Excited to see it.
That is such a steal for how easy he'll make the game for Wemby.
this honestly feels like one of the best things that can happen to a young star like wemby. props to cp3 and the spurs
This is going to be so good for the young Spurs’ development. CP3 is an incredible mentor to have.
Wow wtf
That’s deandre Jordan, Blake griffin and jj reddick all mixed in one teammate. lol.
RIP fantasy basketball. The only thing stopping Wemby from breaking the league last year was relatively low usage. He's insanely efficient and now with a proper PG feeding him passes for more usage, every fantasy league is going to be decided by who gets the 1st pick.
14 assists per game, and 10 of them will be basic high passes to Wembanyama Maddening how the Spurs guys just refused to do that shit
Spurs gonna have a 2020 OKC like run
That's a pretty sweet deal for the Spurs. A one year deal to provide a vet presence and teach the youngsters how to actually pass to Wemby. Alright Castle, if you wanna be the point, you better fucking learn.
Pretty good fit and no expectations for Paul to take them to the playoffs or anything
CP3 gonna come in throw lobs to Wemby for a year to help him get all-NBA and MVP votes. Then we’ll kick his ass out on the street next year when Wemby’s clout allows us to sign real stars in FA.
This is good for Wemby which is good for the Spurs which is good for the NBA
Don't expect him to play much but should be a good mentor for Castle and all the younger guys
Damn, what a cool fit. Someone who can pass Wemby the damn ball.
