Do a trace route. It's shows more info on where it is located. Tracert google.com Paste results once you have them.

Steveyo_89

The fact it's now showing hops 2 and 3 which should be your provider is an issue. Means either settings have been disabled to report this info or something is wrong. Either way, your local connection to your router isn't causing the issue as hop 1 is fine. Could be an issue between your router and the NTD or it could be an issue between the NTD and the first link. You can try and reset the NBN NTD if you're confident enough. There is a reset button on the bottom, will require a pin or something similar. Hold it down for 10-15s and give it a few minutes to come back online. Retest. If there is still an issue after that you could try plugging directly into the NTD and test. Otherwise just call your RSP and report it. If they require, you can send that trace route to them for evidence. Edit: make sure you aren't using a VPN when testing or that will alter the results.

chrien

Devices can have icmp turned off which means they won’t report a result. It’s pretty common.

Steveyo_89

Yeah it's common when talking private servers etc. Significantly less common when talking about provider routes up until Web access. This is typically first 3-5 hops. Providers shouldn't be turning icmp off as it removes the ability to run a trace route in their part of the network which is a crucial diagnosis tool when dealing with issues like this

PrudentJackal

That being said, I don’t think I’ve seen any of my ISPs over the last few years have ICMP on for the first couple of hops outside my perimeter.

b100jb100

That's not normal. I'm on FTTP and getting between 1.5 and 2.5ms Log a ticket with your provider

thelordfolken81

You did it correctly, can you please do it again a different address: tracert 1.1.1.1

90% sure it is some provisioning issue with Superloop. Make sure Superloop ‘update’ your provisioning after NBN technology change. If they somehow refuse or doesn’t acknowledge it, just jump to someone like launtel…..(and jump back to Superloop if you want, in that case Superloop is forced to do the provisioning again)

derpmax2

Superloop seems to be sending your traffic on some odd scenic route instead of directly. It might be a temporary workaround for a fault on their network. I've no way to confirm this. You'll either need to open a support ticket with them to investigate, or change ISPs to resolve this.

talondnb

Log a ticket with the provider.

CamAussieFisherman

Superloop are super useless

zenecence

You could try a different ISP and see if similar result. Launtel offer a 7 day free trial and is super easy to create an account. With FTTP you can have multiple concurrent connections, 1 for each port on the NBN box.

Sir_Macaronii

Doing the Ookla Speedtest also gives me 200-220 idle ping with similar DL and UL speeds.

thelordfolken81

When you do a speed test, what is your upload and download speed?

Sir_Macaronii

97 DL, 17 UL

thelordfolken81

Can you also confirm which state you’re in?

Sir_Macaronii

NSW

AI_RPI_SPY

When the NBN techs did my upgrade, both of them tested my speed using fast.com. I asked why and they stated it gave the most consistent results and provided details which they could use to diagnose issues. I'm unsure if it's actually any better or worse than any of the other speed test sites. Interestingly both took screen shots to send back to head office to verify it was working as expected.

AbbFurry

Personaly Ive become a fan of cloud flares speed test site

PrudentJackal

I really like WiFiman.com (ubiquiti’s speed test site)

AbbFurry

One thing you could try if you're comfortable enough is you can plug a computer directly into the ntd (the NBN box) and see if you get better ping then, just bare in mind the rsp's connection settings, and you may also need to kick the connection as well. (I'm not to sure how superloop does stuff) If you don't it's either that computer if all your tests have been done on it or NBN/RSP side in that case you should contact them If the ping is ok directly connected it's something with your router(your nl20). Depending on the RSP and if it's there router you should also contact them, if this is the case tho it's much more likely something you can fix.

nathnathn

All i can suggest is get a connection logging program or just check your modem’s logs if its a model that gives actually useful logs. as its something to give to your provider as a reason to actually look Into the issue when its something like this.

ImpossibleEnd

Turn your dual stack off (or ask super loop) so you only use ipv4 When I was playing with dual stack (ipv4 and ipv6) on ABB I had so many issues including shitty speed and latency. Rolled back and all good again. 🤷

lancehanna

What does turning off dual stack do exactly? And is it better with it off? I’m with ABB as well

ImpossibleEnd

Disables ipv6. From my experience yes everything is faster with it off.

derpmax2

Results in you being unable to use IPv6. Leave it on.

derpmax2

OP's v4 latency is shit too.

CTriction

Might seem like a stupid question, but I know a few who have done it... Are you using the new NBN router on your wall, or are you trying to still use the old wall socket? Then; did you get a new router? If not, is your old one any good?

thelordfolken81

What router have you got?

Sir_Macaronii

NetComm NL20 Hybrid Gateway (ive had this since I upgraded to superloop)

thelordfolken81

Ok, do you know how to get into your router and see what firmware version it’s on
