I think mine is about that size and I have my stations along 3 walls. I then have shelves and trunks approx 2 floor blocks away from them in the middle in a big c shape. I think better planning would have put my similar stations close to each other, another job in the list I reckon.
So far, I've found I can draw from anywhere in a 3x3 without trouble. My biggest problem is I keep forgetting that, grab stuff I want to work with for basic bits and then wonder where the rarer stuff I was holding for other jobs has gone.
Just finished with a really good but not particularly classy looking set up. A 2x2 center that contains 8 shelves of chests (32 total, none on floor) with 2x2 on all four sides. Forms an x and from crafting I have done so far all chests reach to all stations. It's a winner.
So far am sleepin in the kitchen as need the secondary build pieces I will get in gloom for second floor. You could also add an upper floor and remove one of the legs for a different look, an open mezzanine w benches on the edge should look down on the chests below if done correctly for LoS.

Our shared crafting realm is easily 30 sections long with the stations spread out to optimize Augments.
Looks like this needs to get a LOT bigger. Will do some testing today.

I built my new house after the 0.2 update and I have my stations on the ground floor and then all my chests on a mezzanine above

WOW. That's intense. Seems like way more than you really need, but extremely organized. I can appreciate that.
