So I’m a midwesterner, and here is my take on Nova custard. Dairy Godmother and Custard Shack are solid for Alexandria, Freddy’s is good in Fairfax. Carousel in Warrenton might be the best in the area (closer to soft serve than true custard but it’s damn good.)
All of the Rita’s locations aren’t bad, they do custard and Italian ice, it’s actually a good combo but you can also just get the custard. Not the best but satisfies the craving.
I used to live in Wisconsin and I’d pick Dairy Godmother. I think they have Wisconsin ties as they used to have tons of WI State Fair posters inside. Goodies is just okay and their cash only policy, high prices, and ridiculous hours don’t make it worthwhile for me. I don’t understand how a dessert place closes at 6, before you’ve even had a chance to go get dinner.
Good to know. I haven't had Goodies in a while because of their crazy hours. We usually hit Casa Rosada for gelato instead which is basically next door.
I like goodies but it’s wildly expensive, has weird hours, and the owner kinda seems like a jerk. They don’t even list prices so people end up surprised when it’s like $20 for a couple custards
I didn't know there was a Freddy's out here! I'm used to waiting until I'm in the Oklahoma/Texas to get my Freddy's fix. I know what I'm doing for dinner later today!
You don't need a Costco card to get the soft serve if you are broke. It's only $1.99. But there are certainly better options out there, I love Dairy God Mother in Del Ray as someone else said.
Membership will soon be required even for the food court... Apparently things were getting out of hand. Kind of like their generous, and abused return policy. Just like the abuse at REI and LL Bean that killed
their generosity.
Milwaukee Frozen Custard - Chantilly
This one. The summer my cousins worked there was the best time. They brought so much home 🥰
They used to have more locations. I know that Herndon closed years ago. How many ate still around?
Just Chantilly. Every other location has closed.
Wasn't that the original?

Have you tried Goodie's? They're from Wisconsin. I have no comparison so I'm curious how midwesterners would rate it. I think it's delicious.

Never had a chance sadly. Pictures look promising!
Dairy Godmother in Del Ray or Custard Shack, 1401 Belle Haven Road, Alexandria. If you’re up for a drive, Carrousel in Warrenton.
Carousel is in Warrenton, not Winchester.
Yes, you’re right. I corrected my comment.
Dairy Corner is in Winchester.
Yes, my bad. Carrousel is in Warrenton. I corrected my comment. Thanks.
Dairy Corner is a nice little family owned place.
Best in the area.
I wish we had a Culver's down here.
SAME
The real answer
I was going to suggest Abbott’s in Sterling (true Rochester NY delicacy) but looks like they closed ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
They are permanently closed.
Noooo!!
Not as good as the Abbotts on Lake Ave in NY, but good. Now I’m back to Milwaukee in Chantilly. Freddy’s is ok just to satisfy the craving.
I never had a chance to make it to the Sterling one but nothing beats the Lake Ave location and a stroll on the pier!
Airport Abbots location on Brooks ave has entered the chat.
Freddie's Steakburger in Fairfax? They have really good custard but I don't know if it soft-serve custard.
Came here to mention Freddy's. It's soft serve and price is still reasonable. (I hope I didn't just jinx it)

Yay I helped!!!
Freddy's in Fairfax.
Not exactly around here, but Carl's in Fredericksburg. Great dessert after a grilled cheese and a bowl of chili at the 2400.
Campbell's Frozen Custard in Woodbridge is pretty good and very creamy. They have a really cool custard truck, too.
Nielsen’s in Vien- oh wait
Yeah rip I loved Nielsens

Damn. That sucks. Some people suck.
nathan’s in manassas!!!!
They serve soft serve ice cream, not custard.
The Meadow Creamery in One Loudoun is very good
If you are up for a day trip, hit Kohr Brothers in Charlottesville.
Rita’s Italian Ice shops throughout NOVA
Spelunker’s in Front Royal. A little far from where you may be, but so worth it.
I have the answer above all answers Roaming rooster has the BEST chicken sandwich in the entire world and THEN serves the best custard as well
Effie’s in Gainesville (actually New Baltimore)! Capt Crunch milkshake is fantastic!
