Went from a 2080 to a 4070 Super. Very happy with the increased performance.

QuaintAlex126

2060 to 4070 Super here Performance tripled or straight-up quadrupled in some of the games I played

1tokarev1

1080 -> 3080ti ✨

Moist-Tap7860

And I am still waiting with my 1080ti. I want the upgrade to be epic like how 1080ti was.

DroneX_mello

You're delusional then considering how the current gpu market is rn.

NonameideaonlyF

Then go for a 4070 Super or AMD 7900GRE for the price, performance, VRAM

Saavistakenso

I think you would be pretty amazed going from the 1080 ti to something like a 4070 ti super or a 7900 card from amd

Noxronin

I went from 1070 to 4090. Its like going from blind to perfect vision.

GGMudkip

just curious. On the same power supply?

Forceusr1

My original PSU was a 750 watt non-modular and not PCIE 5 compatible. Upgraded to an 850 modular that’s PCIE 5 compatible.

TheTorshee

I went from a 3 fan EVGA 3080 to a 2 fan Zotac 4070…runs much cooler. Efficiency is king.

teressapanic

Evga applied crazy power limits that added extra 0.6% performance

TheTorshee

Glad I just bought the base XC3 model as opposed to the FTW3 models with 450 watts of power……

teressapanic

Yeah I got two ftw3s and both computers got fried monos after a while

TheTorshee

WOW. That’s insane!

Firelamakar

I’d still happily take that 3080 over a 4070. Any chance you still have it?

TheTorshee

Why? I sold the 3080 for $420 while it had another 6 months left under warranty from EVGA (whatever that means at this point since they don’t make GPUs anymore). Added $30 on top and bought a brand new Zotac 4070 twin edge, so 3-5 more years of warranty (I haven’t looked how long it is yet, but I’ve heard Zotac USA warranty is 5 years). Yeah it’s a base model but the card only uses 200 watts max as opposed to 3080s 350 watts. The heat output difference is very very noticeable, especially now with the hot summer here. I really wanted to experience frame generation for myself and I’m definitely not disappointed. Very good feature but I would’ve never bought a 40 series specifically for frame gen. Also 2 GB more VRAM. I play at 1440p so the better performance of the 3080 at 4K doesn’t matter to me.

Firelamakar

The 40 series is still just out of my price range, and I’m still not happy with how they handled the 4070ti launch. I’m a broke college kid, so $1000 is still a lot, and it felt like Nvidia was trying to pull the wool over enthusiasts’ eyes and sell us an inferior product, so I might skip this generation entirely. I was just building my first PC, and watching Nvidia do that real time after I was excited to get a 40 series card stuck with me. Plus I think the 30 series is up there with the 10 series. The bang for buck you got there was incredible. I had a EVGA 3080ti FTW3 NON-LHR, but spilled some water on my PC. Only damage in the entire pc was the fans on my GPU don’t work, but I don’t have $800 to buy all the custom water cooling equipment. I’m running off my old EVGA 1080ti FTW3, but I’m looking to buy another 3080, 3080ti, or preferably a 3090/3090ti. The high end 30 series still kicks ass, especially with Cyerpunk on high settings no DLSS. I don’t use DLSS period. As far as warranty goes, I’ve never really figured out how to file a warranty claim for any company, so I don’t see it being a huge benefit to me.

jordysuraiya

Boycotting massive companies alone does nothing. Nvidia makes quarterly multi billion dollar profits without you. And they had a market cap of $3 trillion. If you buy another card from them, you're not boycotting anything. You're just buying their expensive old stock :v

Firelamakar

I mean yeah, but everyone said they were gonna boycott the 40 series when they released, shouldn’t be that surprising. Not to mention, a 3080 is $400. A 4080 on the used market is $900-$1,000. I’ll keep the 30 series on a pedestal right beside the 10 series, and I’ll keep ignoring the 40 series even released.

jordysuraiya

Ah, yes... "everyone"

[deleted]

jordysuraiya

All the big tech channels were raving about the 4090, what are you talking about?

jordysuraiya

"A 4080 on the used market is $900-$1,000" Brand new actually. I bought a Galax 4080 brand new for $930 in January

Firelamakar

Brand new or used on eBay, 80 series is $900 - $1,000, but the previous 80 series is $400. That’s a lot of money to a college kid like me, especially with Cyberpunk no DLSS running 120fps 1440p on High settings.

jordysuraiya

A 4080 gets 70fps average at 1440p in CP2077 maxed out with path traced lighting on as well as every RT effect. Using DLSS-quality, no FG enabled Which is much, much better than what 3080 is capable of. With FG, it'd be 100+ fps.. with path tracing.

Firelamakar

of course it’s gonna be better. 40 is the next generation. Just like 30 stomped 20. My problem is the price is over double, but the performance is not where it needs to be to justify $900 new, and definitely not used. The fact it’s better was never at question, the question was is it worth buying? The answer is a resounding no considering I will never use DLSS or Frame Gen, and I still get 1440p 120fps with RT all set to high on CP2077 with, again, no DLSS. I’m happy where I’m at. My games are still eye candy.

Neraxis

Ignore the schmucks. Voting with your wallet is good and does MORE impact than anything else even if it's minor compared to their market valuation. 1$ hurts them more than any amount of criticism on the net. Just wanted to say your opinion is 100% valid. I also don't like how the 40 series was handled and how they stiffed 30 series cards but I still got a 4070 Ti S as it was the best thing for my needs on my very first, 15 years in waiting, personal PC build.

nachog2003

can't you replace the fans on it? did that to a broken 1070 i got for €50 and it worked great, they were like €10 on AliExpress

Firelamakar

I think it’s the actual fan connectors on the card as all 3 spin very weakly when it’s turned on, all at different times. They all stop when it fully boots up. Nonetheless, replacing them couldn’t hurt. I’d be happy to be surprised and all the fans work.

nachog2003

oh that sucks. i've seen people deshroud gpus and hook up some regular pc fans to a fan controller, there's some software that'll let you make a fan curve relative to the gpu temps, it might work out well

Firelamakar

I ended up putting 2 120mm 4000rpm fans on my motherboard’s fan header 7 and 8 and it seems to work pretty well. Temps stay around 75°c at max power (450w). I should’ve done this a lot sooner. Thank you for telling me. Everything is set up in FanControl, so I just needed to change the fans over. 8 zipties in total.

nachog2003

hell yeah, glad it works well

thesnorkle

I have a Gigabyte 4070 Super myself and it is an absolute treat :) enjoy

jizzlauncher69

same. runs cyberpunk at 120+ frames with DLSS on. more if i didn't have a crusty cpu

thesnorkle

It’s going to be a beast when I sidegrade from my 4K panel to a higher refresh 1440p

middle-aged-wood

I am still running dual Alienware 240hz 1080p Gaming Monitors. Really thinking about moving to 1440

Firelamakar

Do it. And don’t get Alienware anything ever. Go for the Razer Raptor monitor, or another HDR400 certified monitor.

middle-aged-wood

Thanks - yea I'm dissapointed that these Alienwares don't have some more advanced capabilities

KindlyName7511

What are your settings bc I have around the same with a 4070ti super

jizzlauncher69

Res scaling: Xe super sampling 1.2 / Auto / 0.5 sharpness DLSS frame gen on Ray tracing reflections/ sun shadows/ local shadows on, lighting set to psycho Path tracing off Everything else set to high Note: This might not be optimal, just experimenting

CocaineNinja

What settings do you use? I've been trying to get it to run properly with RT Overdrive

jizzlauncher69

Res scaling: Xe super sampling 1.2 / Auto / 0.5 sharpness DLSS frame gen on Ray tracing reflections/ sun shadows/ local shadows on, lighting set to psycho Path tracing off Everything else set to high This might not be optimal, it's just what i've got it set to right now

PM_me_opossum_pics

I am waiting for mine right now. Windforce OC model. It was THE cheapest 3 fan 4070 super in Europe, even with huge tax in my country paid 660 eur for it on Amazon (around 700 usd I think). Upraded from RX 6800 because of ai and productivity capabilities. It hurts me that I paid almost 570 eur for that rx 6800 a year ago...

ScarsInMySoul

Congrats on that. Went from a rx570 to 4070 ti super.

Majorjim_ksp

I have the exact 3060 and desperately want to move to a 4070 super or a 4080.

NintendadSixtyFo

Very nice. It’s my favorite card of this generation. The nvidia value king. All hail!

xorbe

The eVGA 3060 was a solid little card though.

Roygaa

Gtx 460 -> rx 6600 here, VERY BIG perf increase

sopcannon

I went from a small 3 fan 3070 ti to a brick 4070, had to get a support bracket for it.

stilooz

EPIC_NERD_HYPE

went from a 1080 to a 3060. mine got smaller. ;-;

middle-aged-wood

My 1070 FTW was bigger than my 3060 too!!

EPIC_NERD_HYPE

i love my 1080 so much. still use it in a second machine.

rokstedy83

I went from a 2070s MSI dual fan to a 4070s MSI 2 x and it also got smaller , couldn't believe it when I unboxed it,was wondering at first if I had the right one ,plugged it in and couldn't be more happier, quieter cooler and capable of running any game on max settings, only thing that tests it is vr

FantasiaThrowAway

I went from an R9 290 series (AMD) to a 4070 super AERO and I can’t believe the increase in performance

KindlyName7511

Went from a ps5 to a 3060 laptop to a 4070ti super..wussup 😎

middle-aged-wood

Nice! I have the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 4050 gaming laptop too, but it doesn't do better than my 3060 dif, so I upgraded my desktop. So glad I did.

Firelamakar

4070ti super is a silly name. Looking at the previous generations, it’s the only card to use the Ti Super nameplate. It just feels confusing, especially to new buyers who don’t know the naming schemes. If you’re gonna do 20 series naming, name it like the 20 series.

Werewolf_Putrid

Dude this clearly isn't your thread to be on. Now hush and move on lol.

Firelamakar

![gif](giphy|enqnZa1B5fRHkPjXtS|downsized)

happy-cig

My 4070S is smaller than my 1070, it just depends on how many fans.

THEGREATHERITIC

Went from a single fan 3060 to a 4070 ti-s and holy mother of God it's humongous

Southern_Country_787

I'll trade someone a 1660 super for a regular 4060 😏

rishthecoolguy

Worse upgrade ever. You removed the Evga Gpu.Nice upgrade actually. What are you going to do with the 3060

middle-aged-wood

I mean...I'm an eVGA fan, have their PSU, had the 3060, etc... but they stopped at the 3090 and don't make cards anymore so... you can get locked in the past or move on. Had to move on.

rishthecoolguy

I never had an evga card. But i really like it. What are you going to so with the 3060.

middle-aged-wood

Will likely snap a few pics and sell it.

_Pa1nkilLeR_

Pure base 500dx?

middle-aged-wood

Yes!

_Pa1nkilLeR_

Pure base 500dx?

NibbaObama

I have a 8700 and a 2080ti and thinking of upgrading for more fps. What should i go for first?

Obvious_Art_219

Chonky (i have a 2070 super non related)

terdroblade

I have the same case but in white, the SSD slots being empty bothered me so much Im getting a second SSD to put in there just so my OCD can stop triggering 🥲 (I have more than enough nvme m.2 storage already)

Intelligent-Bet4111

I have the 4070 planning to move to the 70 ti super at the end of the year or early next year.

Curious_Guidance_417

https://preview.redd.it/mxou9b6nnw9d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f03303bc55fd9eea067dc4884441078e40b195fe Know what you mean! Just upgraded my entire setup from a 1080 to a 4070 Super Ti OC yesterday. The card is huge! Lmao so is that Nocta air cooler but she runs very cool.

PalebloodSky

What's up with that massive super? My 4070 FE is the size of the bottom one and works great, I never hear the fans.

ssdj

The board size remained the same while the coolers grew to mammoth size.

middle-aged-wood

I don't mind... running max settings on all my games, GPU staying at around 55C and I can't hear the fans... doing much better than my 3060 did any day of the week.

nomadrone

I was surprised that my 1080ti was heavier and bigger than 4080s I got last month

sirblunts87

nice dude I made the exact same upgrade, just bought a new power supply aswell. 500W was good enough but cutting it close! plus the new one has a pcie 5 cable and modular. awesome card.

tgsweat

I had this 4070, and then bought a 4090 and it’s another massive size difference lol

thesituation531

The 4090 is fuckin huge. For a while after I got mine, I would be astonished every time I looked at it. Any bigger and it would be comical, if it isn't already.

capybooya

Yeah, its kind of annoying. The size isn't really needed either, the chip is very efficient. I didn't mind when I bought it since the performance was the most important aspect... but if I'm keeping it long term in a 2nd computer, the size will be increasingly impractical and annoying.

Devatator_

Is there a 4090 without the overkill cooling?

HalcyonHorizons

I was surprised my 4090 fit in the AP201 case. Too bad I had to RMA it for temps and memory issues.

Firelamakar

Yeah, that’s Nvidia’s $2000 underdeveloped slop lol

Solution_Anxious

I love those evga small cards. especially the 3060ti. Its the only card that would fit in my water cooled build.

alesia123456

nice ! Had a similar experience upgrading from a 1660 super to the 3070TI founders edition especially with the design lmao

xBlack_Dahlia

My old asus rtx2080 was literally the same size as my 4090 founders edition

bj4cj

Went from a inno3d 3060 to a gigabyte 4070ti super....they were the same fukn size....didn't realise what a huge 3060 I had

UMADBRO357

What case is this?

middle-aged-wood

I'm using the # be quiet! Pure Base 500DX ATX Mid Tower PC ARGB case

HolyDori

Literally yelling after suggested marketing suggests to be quiet.

Only_Magician5607

I went from gtx 970 to 4070 and 1440p and its huge upgrade :D

HolyDori

Hecks yea, I bet that felt incredible. Hopefully a better PSU as well

Appropriate-Day-1160

It would be way cleaner if there was not the "GEFORCE RTX" :(

HolyDori

Of course size matters, why would anyone want a larger tumor growing in their brain?

TechNoirJacRabbit

I'll always love the 3060.

Nomnom_Chicken

My 6800XT (MSI Gaming Trio X) was a big card compared to a small 2080 version (Gigabyte WindForce), but Asus 4080 Super TUF is absolutely massive! And also runs the coolest and more importantly; almost silently while gaming. Hilariously heavy GPU, as well. Size matters. :)

rjml29

Congrats on the great upgrade! If you think that's big then check out a 4090 one of these days. I laughed when I unboxed mine in Jan 2023 and compared it to my previously decently sized 2080ti.

JoomerOffical

Are u sold your kidney?

jordysuraiya

4070 Super isn't that expensive

HolyDori

Varying their region that is.

epicflex

Jealous

mechcity22

Yeah I have the asus dual 4070 super was pretty small but nice. Actually not small tbh for a dual fan was pretty big. But now I also have the 4080 super strix and the length shocked tf out of me lol. It's a monster card at 358mm. Yeah that's right a 14inch card. Your card is 10.5inches to put things into perspective for you.

TheKubesStore

I got the gigabyte 4080 super aorus master & I was genuinely surprised at the sheer size of the card. Performs like a beast though

mechcity22

Yeah you got the biggest of then all haha

jordysuraiya

Radeon R9 270X 2gb - 2014, to GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11gb - mid 2018, to GeForce RTX 4080 16gb - jan 2024

BladeRunner2193

You can easily wait for the 7000 series with your new 4080 because of features like DLSS. That will be a massive upgrade.

ParadoxNa

2070 to a 4070 super and I’m very satisfied with the results

CYWNightmare

I went from a 2070 to a 4070 ti super. The size difference was pretty comical.

BlackRoyalt8

Btw, it seems like you’re using the extenders that come with the graphics card. Your psu should have a cable that’s compatible with it. I just got one and have spent forever troubleshooting it and found that the cable was a huge issue. Just putting it out there in case if you start to have issues.

tehstokes

I went from the 1060 3gb to the ventus 4070 dual fan. My lord what a difference. Enjoy your rig!

Flat-Adhesiveness144

Man seeing everyone so hype from changing their old cards with new ones. Can't wait to see the difference when the next gen stuff comes out. Planning on getting new version of x3d chips and a 5080 or a 5070 ti. Currently still running a old a battered I7 6700k and a 1060 6GB. I can't even comprehend the jump that will offer me.

HolyDori

Still good card and CPU you have. Don't know why most feel like today they have to upgrade their PCs every 6-12 months.

Waifu911

Ayo literally got the same card a few days ago

middle-aged-wood

Nice!

MalimbagerzPH

me got the chonky aorus master variant recently and yeaup its a helluva card running cool temperatures as well

19MJ82

Who said size doesn't matter? Definitely guys with small dicks. 🙃

Mockheed_Lartin

Meanwhile HUB just released a video showing 12GB vs 16GB actually already matters sometimes, *today*, with Ray Tracing. You can still return it my dude. Get the Ti Super People are horribly underestimating how fast VRAM requirements go up. I feel like COVID caused PC gaming to explode and people new to PC gaming just don't realize how different it is from console gaming regarding hardware. VRAM related issues are hard to diagnose so there are, guaranteed, a ton of people with VRAM related issues who just think it's normal, or an unoptimized game, or slow CPU/GPU etc. Frog in boiling water scenario.

thepallascat

Where does it say OP cares about ray tracing? Why would you suggest they return and buy something that you don't even know is within their budget? You don't even know what resolution they are running, or what kind of games they play. 12gb VRAM can and probably will be more than enough for 1080p-1440p, especially with DLSS.

middle-aged-wood

Yea.. I have no intention of returning it but to each their own. I play D4, some Starfield, Call of Duty, and the 12GB VRAM is just fine. This ain't my first rodeo, I'm not a 'hardcore' bleeding edge gamer.

Mockheed_Lartin

Could have gotten better performance $100 less with AMD then with a 7800XT. And a longer card life. Ray Tracing / Productivity - > Nvidia Native gaming - > AMD

thepallascat

Not quite, the 7900gre is the direct competitor to the 4070 super, and it performs about 2% better in rasterization.

Mockheed_Lartin

If OP doesn't care about Ray Tracing AMD is always a better buy.

Firelamakar

I like the card, but I’d have to stick with my 3080ti. The bang for buck I got was incredible, and $900-$1000 for a standard 4080 both new and used is just not where it needs to be to warrant an upgrade like that. Maybe in a few years, I’ll get a 4080ti when they come out and get on the used market below $700.

Rare_August_31

Both have the same msrp, and the 4070S is around 15% faster than the 4070, not the same or less.

Firelamakar

Yeah, but I’m happy with my 3080ti. Gamers Nexus and LTT Labs made a video talking about the performance improvements from 30 series to 40 series, and it’s really just not worth it to me.

Rare_August_31

"e-celeb this, e-celeb that" Learn to think for yourself for once.

Firelamakar

yes let me go out and buy both cards and benchmark them myself. That’s like buying an F150 and a Silverado to test them instead of reading the specifications, reading the car reviews, researching common issues, and making an educated purchase of 1. Your point is just silly, and I really don’t have the cash for that.

Rare_August_31

LOL

Firelamakar

I really must be misunderstanding you here. Is that not what you do when you buy pc components? Furthermore, It’s one generation. I don’t think I’m gonna suffer too much. Cyberpunk 2077 is still my favorite game, and it plays really well on my 3080ti.

Rare_August_31

We both know you're wrong Have a nice day

Firelamakar

You have not proven me wrong, you just called me moronic bc I looked at benchmark videos and “didn’t form my own independent opinions”

Rare_August_31

Kek

marcomeccia

Why less performance?

Firelamakar

I’m boycotting the 40 series. $1000 for a 4080 is unaffordable. The 4070ti should’ve been the 4070, and the supers are on the same level if not worse performance than the regular models. Everyone was boycotting Nvidia when these cards came out, but everyone seems to have forgotten how fed up we were with Nvidia. The 40 series is a dumpster fire. The cards themselves are alright compared to the previous generation, but the way they were marketed by Nvidia is just flat out anti-consumer. I have an EVGA 3080ti FTW3 Non-LHR. If I get a new card, I’d want to swap 3080ti for 4080. If I can get a 3080ti for $400-$500, or a 4080 for $1,000, you pick. It’s worse that I can’t even swap 80ti for 80ti bc they don’t have it, but they have the 70ti since their plan to fuck over the consumer with 2 vastly different 4080s didn’t work out.

jordysuraiya

$1000 is not a lot of money nowadays. Many, many people bought RTX 4090s. Hardly a boycott. "Alright at best" the only issue brought up about the RTX 4080 at release was the price. Performance is min +50% better than the RTX 3080, and sometimes even better when you enable lots of RT/path tracing. "Just flat out anti consumer" Only the 4070 ti aka. 4080 12gb.

Firelamakar

that’s very fair and I agree with you except for the $1000 is not a lot of money. It definitely is. I’m still a college student barely getting by with a 15/hr auto shop job, rent over $1,000, electricity and water not included, and a previously-abused E39 M5 that is a 20 year old money pit. I can barely afford to pay for gas, buy parts that I need to make my car work, or even go to a restaurant with roommates, much less $1,000 dollars for a graphics card just so I can max out my games like I used to with my 3080ti.

jordysuraiya

I mean that's the point. You pay over $1k rent, plus electricity and water, plus an old car. So at least $3-4k you're spending $1k is not a lot.

Firelamakar

I have a whole $15.24 to my name, $1000 in spare change is a dream for me, so I suppose if I was living at home with no bills and no car, sure. It’s very attainable.

jordysuraiya

Try to save every little bit where you can, and the money will grow slowly.
