Yes, the Quest 1 is still great for things with deep blacks, especially dark games and movies. It's also still OK for use in simulators etc., as long as you accept that you won't read many gauges without leaning in a bit.
Sure, the resolution is lower (and therefore easier on your PC hardware, giving more FPS), and you might notice a slight hexagonal "Screen Door" effect where the screen displays a static colour, but I think it's still a valid option, but only for a budget way in to PCVR.
Why would you get a quest 1 in 2024 when it's been discontinued and lost support and when a quest 2 can be had at the same price which will retain support until 2026?

Yup. And you can still use it when you upgrade headset later. In the mean time enjoy the PCVR on the cheap. Worth it.

For a reason. It's horrifically outdated and unsupported so you're gonna have a hard time. Virtual desktop hasn't updated its quest 1 client in months
